2018--Striving to Make This Year Our Best Possible

My family is all scattered this year. My sister lives in Arizona now. My brother is in Portland (I do not know why; his email made no sense.) My younger brother and his wife are taking my dad to a hotel for dinner. They invited us but DH refuses to go anywhere on the actual day of Thanksgiving so that's a no go. Usually most of us get together the weekend after but I guess that's not happening this year.0

When MIL was I've. She used to do a big a Thanksgiving. When she turned 97, she couldn't live alone so we moved her up to live with us. I ordered Thanksgiving in a box for us from the local market. It included 3 pound breast, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, gravy, rolls and a pie. We just had to reheat it. It was an excellent meal.0

I'll probably move to pre-cooked at some point. But has to be a whole turkey as DH wants dark meat and I want the carcass for soup.
Helene - it's snowing here today; hopefully will move out before you hit our area.0 -
I'm having a JC shelf stable day today:
Apple cinnamon oatmeal with skim milk and raisins
Chicken and corn chowder/side salad
Swedish meatballs/petite brussel sprouts (the half of the bag I didn't eat last night for dinner)
Raw veggies, as desired (I suddenly realized yesterday I wasn't sure if my sugar snaps are "free" vegetables or fit with peas/corn/etc. so I tracked down the official NS list and apparently they are "free" - yeah!)
Cheese curls (LOVE these!)
Lemon cooler cookies (LOVE these)0 -

They had whole turkey options as well. We felt that was too much turkey for 3. Plus we liked the white meat best. So you could get a whole turkey if you ever decide to go that route. Still raining and very gusty here. It,s supposed to be over by . morning.0 -
One year I lined up all my boxes and jars and took a picture of my "lazy woman's" Thanksgiving. My sister and one of my brothers are fantastic cooks so they thought it was pathetic but I got a real chuckle out of it.
Because I make soup out of the leftover turkey I figure there can't be too much leftover turkey. I even own a huge soup pot. LOL!0 -

It got really nasty here yesterday. DH did the shovelling because I was working so I went out to get the mail. In spite of all his work it was really slippery. Luckily this morning things look much better so I can go pick up my photos at rite aid (yes, I still have a 35 mm film camera), pick up the newsletter (so I can get it counted out into boxes for volunteers over the weekend) and pick up poor Lola at the vet (she had a recheck urine culture after the 14 days of antibiotics I got into her - it was good - and a dental). Everything I planned for yesterday but couldn't do.0

We had heavy rain and wind all day and NJ in NJ. We were warm and cozy inside at BIL's house. We left there about 10:30 this morning and pulled into our VA hotel at 5. DH is taking a nap right now while I watch TV. There's a Ruby Tuesday one parking lot over. We'll had over there for dinner in a bit.0

Helene - I'm glad the northern (ish) legs of your trip are going well. Here's hoping you've left bad weather behind you.
Pam- that is truly priceless. Getting printed up for my kitchen cabinet "bulletin board".0 -
It's sunny here today but there are still small patches of snow. I can't tell you how unusual that is in Maryland!
I've got a printed up to do list for today of miscellaneous chores. My big to do for the weekend is getting the holiday newsletter counted out in boxes for volunteers along with thank you cards and small holiday presents (cat ornaments and QVC gift boxes insulated bags).
I also want to get organized to get the cats new collars and tags ordered. I've noticed the current ones are mostly looking a little frayed (except Lola for some reason).0 -

O.K., I'm guilty of being missing in action. I've been very busy and it seemed when I thought I would check in, something would intervene and senior senility would set in and I would forget. I'll try to be better.
We are off for Thanksgiving week, because of deer season combined with Turkey Day. I hope to use the time to thin the clutter herd here.

No food theme days this weekend. Just choosing one diet entree for each meal.
Hit one grocery store this morning, to get a few things, including chicken livers. I was in the grocery store the middle of last week. I was checking the date on the chicken livers. Another woman stopped and asked me the date. I told her and she "that won't work" - I guess she was going to use them in gravy on Thanksgiving day like me. I'd already concluded they wouldn't work. LOL!0 -
Jean - we missed you - but I know about busy!
Jean/Pam - too funny!!0 -
