Out in the yard today to finish up getting ready for the party. I think i'm in pretty good shape.
How many peeps are you having for the party? And what's on the menu? :bigsmile:0 -
Last night I had three glasses of wine, which is pretty good. No drinking tonight!0

We're grilling my famous carne asada along with a citrus garlic chicken, and corn on the cobb. I'm also making pasta salad, my homemade salsa and guacamole and tortillas (thank you Mexican madre for these never fail recipes!)
I'm getting help at the store with appetizers of shrimp, various dips, crackers, fruit salad, veggies, etc. I also am getting a greek salad and breadsticks from this take out place.
My SIL's are bringing desserts. I don't do those.
I'll have sangria prepared as well as plenty of beer. That's about it. I used to get stressed but I have it all down to a science at this point. My cleaning lady is coming on Friday so I don't have to worry about that either...altho I'd love her to come after! (but that's the husband's job..he's good at that)
Oh..edited to add my albondigas! Which are Mexican meatballs...I'll have those out as appetizers also...with a homemade chipotle BBQ sauce0 -
Can I come to the party..... ????
How do you make your tortillas? I just started making my own with masa harina and the recipe on the back, which just calls for water. I bought a tortilla press and everything. They are SO much better than store bought.0 -
Come on over!!!
You do more than I do! I cheat and get the masa preparada (already prepared masa) from the local Mexican place nearby and make them from that.
Homemade tortillas are amazing!0 -
Oh my gosh...Syd, you and Kim have the best food at your parties....I WANNA COME  I haven't had a major party at our house for a while...too much work I never enjoy myself. We have been having smaller groups of people at a time...that way I can go alittle fancy and still enjoy myself!!!
Sounds like a blast ENJOY :drinker:0 -
Wow Syd, the menu sounds awesome! Now if we could all just "blink" over for the fun!0
-
I take the easy way out: BYOB, BYOM (meat to grill), BYOSD (bring sharable dish). We host the parties about 80% of the time in our group of friends soo..... I do put together a punch bowl full of Ashley Palmers for KY Derby though.0

I have to chime in here to say that since I have been preggo we have not had a party at all. Normally I am good for a few big parties a year and at least have a small group over once a month. I think my lack of motivation to have people over has to do with the fact that I can't drink! I'm usually pretty buzzed by the time the guests arrive, which makes preparation way more fun :drinker:0

HAHA Chloe, I prep for my parties like you!!!!0

Mon - 0
Tues - 3

Thurs - was supposed to be 0, but Eric is helping his brother move some furniture so he's grilling out for us. Which means drinks. Damnit we're too social......
We're not gonig to St. Louis now so that may save some drinks this weekend. Maybe....0 -

Thursday-going for another......
So I am definitely going to have a few drinks tomorrow night. We are going to my in laws for dinner, which will be nice BUT they never have anything good to drink so that puts a damper on my excitement to have something.....might have to stop at liquor store on the way up :bigsmile:0 -
good job on all those 0's Kate!
I had 2 vodkas..the 2nd one I didnt even finish. Working in the yard wiped me out and I was too tired to drink.
Probably wine tonight.0 -
Way to go on those 0's Kate!
Exhaustion was at an all time high yesterday but I managed to get in a work out. Today will be spent finishing laundry, getting the house cleaned up so we come home to a clean house from vacation and packing. Tomorrow we will drop the pup-a-lups off, finish last minute things then head to the wedding and from there we will begin the drive to the beach I've been thinking I'll have some scrumptious mocktails at the beach like a Miami vice! It'll keep me cool in the sun and I'll be tired anyway so I'll trick myself into thinking I'm buzzed I bought some new Fall decor and stocked up on Yankee candle so when we get back from the beach the summer decor is going into hibernation and the Fall decor is coming out to play, mid sept the Halloween decor will come out, my favorite!
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!0 -
Wed - 4 beers
Team win0 -
I've been thinking I'll have some scrumptious mocktails at the beach like a Miami vice!
My prego mocktail was a simple low cal cran-whatever juice with a splash of OJ and a lime. They're yummy. And I would seriously down like 4 while hanging out with drinkers. As if there would be any effect from that.....
Have fun!0 -

I can barely move today. Marathon day at the state fair. We got there about 10 AM and left about 12 hours later. Packed my vodka and drank lemonades. A few beers in-between.
One of the booths was giving away big, big, big disposable flasks - I snagged 4 of them.
I bought a belly dancing wrap with all the jingles on it. I've just always wanted one. LOL
I got my standard pork chop and tried some lobster mac (yummo). Lots of dancing was done that I am glad there are not photos of.0 -
Syd...your food sounds amazing and fresh!! You're right just being organized is the key.
I have a cleaner coming the morning of the party as well which eliminates 80% of the stress. Food is easy because I like to cook. I've got the kegs ordered (oktoberfest, Miller Lite and 1919 rootbeer). My friend has taken over the moonwalk for the kids which I was grateful to hand over. I've got a couple of people to help with prep work which involves lots and lots of potato peeling.
I think today will be a zero and the next few days. I have a party to go to on Friday but I am thinking about bagging out. I'm back at the fair for kid/family day on Tuesday where I should be a bit more behaved. Next weekend is the family re-union trip to a lake house. Lushy family indeed!!0 -
The evening with the guys went well. Did not over eat and during the six hours had four beers and four shots. Not too bad. :drinker:0
-
Sounds like a partying weekend for lots! No parties for me just some friends hanging out tomorrow evening so there will be drinks and tonight there will be wine!

I had 0 last night as expected. I think I hit my wall...because I was exhausted. But I got a great night sleep and am ready for the festivities today! :drinker:0 -
Have a great day with the guests, Syd!!
Husband quit working on the retaining wall after I said that it didn't curve right. F - now I have to do it. There will be coronas in the yard tonight to counter the 90 degree weather as I slave with bricks.0 -
Hope you had a wonderful party SoCal!!
The wedding we went to Friday was lovely, it was a little strange not drinking but really not all that disappointing. I find most times than not when I think about drinks I wouldn't even want one  We hit the road after the wedding, made it to Delaware around 1:30amish. Best hotel ever, it was a Sheraton, nothing fancy but it was oh so clean, the room was lovely but most importantly the air conditioner actually got cold. I'm talking frigid. It let you set it below 60 and we shut the door to the bedroom from the sitting area so it was great. It was also loud enough so I was able to sleep without my travel fan I have honestly never gotten such great sleep in a hotel before because normally it doesn't get cold enough and unless I have my fan the AC doesn't make enough noise. We got up around 6 and hit the road around 6:30. Finally made it to the beach house around 4:30. Somehow we lasted until a little after 10pm. Slept fine until I woke up with a sore throat :ohwell: hoping it's nothing serious. I never get sick so I'll be a little disappointed if now that I'm pregnant I get sick, that kid would never hear the end of it haha.
Today will be lounging and tomorrow we will get husbands parents from the air port in the evening and finally tell them that we're growing a little one haha. I got some piña colada and strawberry daiquiri mix for some mock tails so perhaps one of those today in the sun listening to the waves that are just a flight of stairs away for our house
Happy weekend all :flowerforyou: :glasses:0 -
:flowerforyou: I love reading the posts on this thread. It makes me feel just fine about drinking, when I do, and get encouraged when I don't. So, thanks.0
