Hello Team Slimsons and Welcome to August!!
My name is Ashley @AB0215 I will be your captain for this month.
Here's a little about me:
I am 32, and I have been overweight basically my entire life and in the last 18 months or so, I decided to change that, I have been working towards that goal for the past year. I'm down over 50 lbs and I still have a way to go, and I just recommitted to my goal and I'm ready to jump back in and get rid of another 25 lbs in the next 6 months.
Please feel free to introduce yourselves and share your goals for the month, I'd actually like to encourage this as I know that for me it helps me to have some accountability and helps me reach my goals when I share them..and with that in mind, my goal this month is to lose 5 pounds. I've spent the past 6 months training for a weight lifting competition and I've put on a lot of muscle in that time, but I need to focus on losing some more weight again, mostly because I need to get down to a lower weight for competition. This time, might be a bit tougher as I'm also going to try and maintain all the muscle I've gained while trying to lower my weight.
We are also going to be running the (Optional) Mini-Challenge again this month: Daily Posts/Ultimate Accountability
First and foremost is that participation in the challenge is optional. It's up to you as to whether you want to try this. If you don't want to participate in these challenges, you don't have to, the choice is yours, but I would like to encourage you to participate as it seems to help keep us on track and thinking about our goals on a daily basis and it's encouraging to see other's successes and struggles so that we realize that we are not alone!!
The Daily Posts Challenge is based on another challenge on MFP called UAC (ultimate accountability challenge). The way UAC works is that the aim is to follow 5 basic rules.
#1. Track EVERYTHING you eat that has calories.
#2. Stay inside your allocated daily budget.
#3. Try to do at least 20 minutes of activity a day (anything: walk, run, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.. As long as it gets you active and off the couch)
#4. 1 pass day permitted per week (went over calories, could not track, not enough exercise, intentional pass)
#5. Check in daily (tracking yes/no, calories yes/no, exercise yes/no).
****End of the week. those who have managed to keep to plan for 6 out of 7 days are recognized in the thread as being part of the weekly "winners circle".
A side note as there has been a bit of confusion for new members in the past, this is not the same as the official results, which are weight based, this is just another tool to help you reach your weight loss goals.
**REMEMBER**
You set your own daily budget.
You choose you own exercise and intensity (no step limit, no exercises you cannot or should not do, 20 mins of gardening counts as much as a 10mile run, activity is activity, anything that gets you up and moving!).
Is not weight based (as weight fluctuates day by day).
Can continue beyond weight loss.
Daily check in keeps you in touch with those doing similar. Longer term weight management is hard to do on your own.
It also has frequent resets (as in a circle each week).
It works on an honor system. Being honest with yourself and others is a key to making things work. Remember, this is a judgement free zone, everyone has good days and bad days, but the way to get to the finish line is by being honest and when we have a bad day, picking ourselves up and carrying on the next day!
Consistency and new habits have been shown the only long term successful way to change weight. We all want the progress made here to last a lifetime.
Your posts should look like this:
Daily Post (Sunday)
Track: Yes/no
Calories: Yes/no (were you under)
Exercise: Yes/no (what type and how long)
Goals or Day: (Tell us a brief description about your how your day went or goals for the day)
In the past I have asked fun questions to help foster participation, I will probably still be asking them from time to time or asking you to think about some Non-Scale Victories to post and share with the group.
I'm still thinking of ways to foster participation in the group, ideas are welcomed if you want to see something added.
Please post your weight on your scheduled weigh in day, as if you miss weigh-ins, you may be eliminated from the challenge and we don't want to see that happen!!
Your posts should look like this:
Username:
Week: February Week 1
PW =(previous weight)
CW=(current weight)
Just type PW & CW if you'd like (or if it's easier, you could keep a note on your PC desktop to make it easier to copy and paste from week to week.)
Please, please setup your posts in that format as it really makes it much easier for me to track your progress for the challenges and the weight loss!!
I'd like to help us be as successful as possible and if I can help in any way, please let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, I look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
I am committed to this group and to help where I can, and please let me know if I can help in any way!!
Side note--I follow a Ketogenic diet for any that may be interested, I have tons of recipes and resources for anyone interested.
Welcome to Ausust and let's make things happen this month together!!
Your Captain,
Ashley (@AB0215)5 -

@mexiconona Your posts still go in July as this is still the last week of July. August starts Sunday July 29th.
As for your weigh in, I take it from July, you still post in July until August begins.0 -
Excited to start and hopefully be more involved and post alot2

Greetings everyone! My name is Jason, and I am from the St. Louis, MO area. My ultimate goal is to lose 40 pounds by the time I turn 40. That would take me down to the 127 pound range. That may seem low for a guy, but I am only 5'2"!! Heck, I would be happy with 30 pounds lost before I turn 40.
The kitchen is where I fail. I work a physically demanding warehouse job, so I am pretty good with the moving around part. The kitchen is my weakness. I think the last time logged food was the first time I was on MFP - like 7 years ago. (My profile says May of 2018 - new profile). Smaller portions, healthier food. Logging it all. This is what I need to focus on.
Making better food choices is difficult - I have 6 kids. So, in a family of 8, we have to buy in bulk - think pastas, bulk meats, cheap as we can. A lot of people say go to a farmers market, etc. When you have to buy for 8, even that is difficult at times.
Well, that's enough about me! I hope everyone achieves the goals they set for the day.1 -

@BEASTFIELD314 Welcome!! I'm fron the STL area too!! And I'm only 4'10" (The struggle is real)
I think food is probably a lot of people's ultimate demise as for weight loss. In our society, it's readily available. A few suggestions: try meal prepping, and try pre-logging, or meal planning. I know for me I'm more likely to stick to a plan when I make it. Also--meal planning is great for the whole family so it can help you save money on groceries for your whole family...make better use of your ingredients...and then portion control really becomes your friend. One more tip, you might try not having all of the food on the table for the whole family, sometimes portion control is easier when you're not serving "family style" but instead switch to buffet style and you really have to think about getting up for seconds rather than just reaching across the table..0 -

Hello everyone, I am Jessica and I live north of Houston, Texas. I work full time and have four children at home. I really do not like to cook so this is my biggest downfall. We have been working really hard to lower our eating out budget and July we were really successful. I still need to lower the grocery budget by not buying so many processed easy to cook items. I follow low carbish, ketoish, paleoish meals lol. I take some medicines that make it difficult to lose weight and my thyroid is sputtering. (It works sometimes and doesn't work sometimes.) I reached my first mini or major goal depending on how you look at it in July by getting under 300 pounds. My goal this month is to get to 275, to post everyday, and to exercise more.2

Hello! I am Tiffany. I am a stay at home mom, and I homeschool my kids. This summer I have been pushing hard to get into a great health routine before we start schoolworkand sports back up. My favorite exercises are lap swimming and hiking. My goal weight loss is 12lbs this month, and to maintain a minimum of 3-4 days a week exercise. I eat mostly low carb/keto. But I am trying to not stress if my carbs are a couple over. In the past, if I felt I failed on the strictness of a diet, I failed for weeks/months after that. So, I am trying to not be hard on myself and just do my best.1

Good morning @kearyandjessy and @momma3times! Hope everyone here has a fantastic day!3

Hi everyone. My name is Jim, recently retired, and living in Charleston, SC. Both my boys are grown and married, just my wife and a chunky yellow Lab that could also stand to lose a few pounds. I have started/stopped MFP more than I care to count. But, I feel this time I can make a go of it and shed the weight I have packed on last few years. Goal is to lose a 100, so I am all in. Really excited, hopefully I can stay motivated. Good luck to all.1

I have 2 cats and your comment about the yellow lab made me laugh. My 2 little guys are on a diet too...and they're really really not happy about it.0 -

Hey all! Happy Thursday. Just wanted to drop a line and say how excited I am for this challenge. Hope everyone has a great day!3

Hello everyone! My name is Teresa, I'm 52 years old, live in Georgia with my wonderful husband and little dog, Maggie Mae. I'm the ministry assistant at my small church and love every second of it! Weight issues have been a lifelong battle and I’m sick of the struggle. I need to get healthy and fit before I start to see health issues. Plus I really like clothes and I am super tired of being stuck in the plus size section!
My current diet is Weight Watchers. I joined WW in January of 2016 and have lost 38 pounds. I have about 60 more pounds to go before I would consider myself at goal. While I'm happy that my weight is down I’m also very disappointed with my lack of progress. To be honest, the lack of progress falls squarely on my shoulders but I also think that the new WW Freestyle program where so many foods are 0 points has slowed me down too.
So, two weeks ago I can to MFP and started tracking my calories. I have always strongly believed that weight loss is about calories in vs. calories out. I also like challenges and have been looking for one that I could do in August. I was very happy to see this Biggest Loser contest and plan to work it hard! I really look forward to getting to know everyone in my group.

Hi everyone. I participated in June and have got off track. I have not been logging all my meals. I am still losing but at a slower rate. Hoping this will help. I am going on vacation for a wek starting Sunday. My day is Monday, but i will have to check in earlier because i dont think there will be a scale.1

@AB0215, I know that I just wrote a book but I forgot to ask a question! Does the daily mini challenge begin on Sunday, July 29th or Wednesday, August 1st? I'm a spreadsheet kind of girl and want to get myself ready to go.
Also, my goal for the month is to lose 6 lbs. I'm a super slow loser and I have family coming for three days, so I'm hoping for the best!1 -

Hey there! My name is Sierra, I’m 17. Working to get my GED. Just trying to feel better about myself by being healthier and trying to lose weight. Starting weight 250. , goal weight 1502

Hi everyone! My name is Jenna and I'm from a smallish town in British Columbia, Canada. I've always been a drive thru gal since college and its my hardest habit to break. Also a few injuries have kept me sedentary and when I did get better the habits did not!! I know I do much better tracking.
I'm a sometimes full time teacher and part time makeup artist and writer. Teaching took it ournof me this year and I gained back 15 of the 25 pounds I lost the year before. But!! This weekend I am moving to beautiful new place with a close friend and I want to harness some fresh start vibes and use it towards my health.
Overall I would like to lose close to 100 pounds but this month I just want to focus on habit forming and beginning to make better choices. Even 5 pounds would make me happy!
I sometimes don't keep up socially online but I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and connect with like minded people. Happy to be apart of this team!!! Whoop!
Question: my weigh in day is Sunday....so i should weigh in on the 29th right?2 -
Hey there Team Slimsons!

I think your goals are great and just take things one day at at time and you will get there
I was you last year, I was anti-social and I actively avoided talking to people, a few months here and I don't even know that girl anymore!
As for your weigh in day, yes since Sundays are your weigh in day, your first weigh in will be Sunday July 29th.1 -
Good Afternoon,
I'm Rissa and just outside of Houston, TX. I am super focused on my appearance which causes me way to much stress, so I am doing something about it. I want to do something different, and need more accountability and support so I am trying this. I used to do so much - like triathlons. Then I got pregnant with my second child and I never got back to it, 5 years later I am done with the excuses. I have two kids that keep me very busy along with a full time job that is literally 24/7 that can be very stressful. My kids are very active and I want to keep up.
Goals - I am currently 270lbs as of Monday, by Aug 31th I would be static with 240lbs. A bit aggressive, but I know I don't drink enough water and I am out in this Texas heat every evening. my ultimate goal is 150 - my perfect weight for my height ( which I was 11 years ago) But overall healthy, look good and feel good about me.1 -
Hi Everyone - My name is Sherry and I'm from a tiny town in Northern California. I'm 33 years old, soon to be 34. My ultimate goal is to lose 50 lbs, which would put me at 175ish pounds (I'm 5'10"). I got down to 188 a few years ago and have slowly gained it all back, which I'm disappointed with myself for letting happen. My biggest, #1 weakness is beer, I LOVE beer. I truly think that if I cut that out I could lose weight easily. I eat pretty well and usually get plenty of exercise (haven’t been walking as much though because it’s been so hot). A few of my mini goals for the month of August is to drink less & wake up early in the mornings to exercise before my day starts. My weight really is out of control and I’m getting tired of looking at my fat self in the mirror. Hoping this challenge will kick start my path to long term weight loss.0
