WELCOME to all walkers!
The October Walk Challenge starts tomorrow, so now is the time to be thinking about our new individual monthly challenge goals!
Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player can be a great addition to walking outdoors in the crisp cool days of Autumn. For those who are enjoying the onset of cooler weather, walking or hiking outdoors might well continue to be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs. For those of us who live where high temperatures outdoors could easily remain for another month or so, the DVDs are awesome when it is impossible to get up with the sun to squeeze in a quick, cooler walk early in the morning.
This group is open to any and all walkers. The majority of us use Leslie Sansone Walk At Home DVD workouts, as well as those great walks or hikes outside on the trails or pathways that are available to us, or a walk in our neighborhood, and on the treadmill, as well as other Walking DVDs. All of these many options count toward our miles and minutes. However you get your walk in, come on in and join us! Post your miles or minutes that you have walked, however you did it... it is all good!
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you!
Set your personal goal for how many miles or minutes that you want to walk, indoors or out, this month. This is your own personal goal . Post your results daily, weekly, or whenever you like. It is such an encouragement to read each others' posts.
If you find this challenge in the middle of the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you want to walk for the remaining days in the month. You are always welcome !
So if you are new to the group please feel free to start today so that by the end of the month you will be that much closer to your health goals. It is never too late to join in
It is always fun to read which DVD, whether Leslie or another instructor, that you used. Or whatever form your walk took, whether outdoors or on the treadmill or anything in between. We all could use some new inspiration sometimes, or inquiring minds sometimes just want to know . So please share if you would care to . (pretty please )
Come on in, and let us start walking the Monthly Walk Challenge together. I know that I say this each month but I am truly grateful for each one of our precious walkers who continue to inspire and motivate mile by mile, and step by step, each month.
I know that we are all excited to see our long time faithful walking friends join us for yet another amazing month together, and we are awaiting the opportunity to welcome newcomers to this month's Walk Challenge!
And now... let us lace up those walking shoes and get some water... as we begin to walk into October 2018!
mmmm .... this is also the month when we can enjoy all things 'pumpkin' ..... as well as all of the other wonderful sights, scents, and yummy tastes of autumn

I am in and since I made my 3.0 miles per week goal last month, I am upping it to 3.5 for October. I think a little challenge will be good for me.

Happy October to all my walker friends!!
I'm not increasing my goal this month, which makes me a little sad as I've increased it every month since I joined this group. It was challenging to reach it last month due to my addition of strength training. It's really a time issue for me. I considered backing it up for this month, but I think I'll push through with the same goal.
Going for 145 miles in October.3 -
4.42/125
1.31 mile after dinner walk with my husband, Dave. He is having health issues and advised to walk each night after dinner. He put it off for 3 days and I was surprised when he laced up his shoes.3 -
October 3.5 miles per day or 108.5 miles/mo
10/1-WAH Walk Slim 4 Really Big Miles=4.0 miles total
VeggieGirl Really-do not worry about increasing your miles, especially when you are doing strength training at the same time. There really is a point where our milage vs time commitment vs strength is optimal and you may be there, or be close. I rarely go over 4 miles a day as a goal because when I am at that level, I am also strength training and my legs really can't take any more than that. 145 miles is a lot, so do not worry about more as you do not want to risk injury! :noway:

I just joined the group and just did my first walk in forever and my first walk at home video ever (1 mile happy walk on youtube). I see people are posting per day and/or monthly mile goals. Since I'm so new my plan is to do something, anything, every day, even if can't finish the video I'm going to start it. Since the video I just did is just about 15 minutes I'm thinking of doing it in the morning before work. I have a trip to vegas (love it there) in a few weeks and I need to build up the ability to walk for a mile or more without having to stop or panting like an animal.
How does this work, do people post weekly?4 -

Welcome to the group. You can post as much or as little as you like. Some of us post daily while others are more sporadic. I check in daily even if I don't make a post but usually do a post every Monday with my week's totals. It helps to read from other to get some motivation to get going. I like to workout in the morning before my body is fully awake and understands what it's doing.1 -
5 Miles today: 2 Miracle Miles + 3 Miles walking on my own (nice day today!)
5 of 145 miles
Thank you @zichab, you are so right. I've pushing too hard to keep increasing the mileage, but it's a lot with strength training, too. I really don't want to cause any additional stress on my body or cause an injury. I work full time also and I feel like I use all my free time exercising!

Welcome all new walkers! So glad you're joining us!
5 miles today: 2 mile morning walk + 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk (even after all this time with the endurance I've built up, that Mary-Kay almost does me in! I was sweating! But Leslie slows it down almost too much in the last mile. I found myself doubling my step.)

I'm in! Since I'm just getting going, I am going to set my goal for 60 miles for the month. I got one in yesterday and another this morning already. I just found out about and printed the Great Walk Challenge sheets so I am going to post those up and use for reminder and motivation.3

Welcome MomDupius! No problem with km! My children live in Netherlands and I have a converter loaded on my computer for all of our weight loss and milage conversations! It's all good!
Welcome to the group pnash! The Great Walk Challenge is a wonderful way to start with Leslie! Have fun with it!!!
Glad I could help VeggieGirl! I was trying to push the envelope for awhile as well and I decided that longest single video that Leslie makes is 5 miles and that should be the limit for me as well. So I set myself a 5 mile exercise limit and include everything within that. The only time I go over is mountain hiking because if I go up I have to come down right! Of course, I have been lax for awhile so I am building back up to 5 miles again, but I KNOW me and I will try to push it eventually!

I'm in again. Unfortunately, I caught a cold and a cough this last week. But I am feeling better now. So, after reading all the inspiring goals I will still try to keep to a conservative goal of 30 minutes per day with an occasional impetus to do more. (Golf days!)
