Maryanne--Love the meme! I've gotten in 5 days straight of exercise for a total of 3 hours and 44 minutes according to the Fitbit. I had the Special K breakfast sandwich again today and again mid-morning, I'm feeling a little hungry compared to when I had the Pure Protein breakfast bars.

Jean - good job on the exercise! I had weight watchers oatmeal for breakfast so thought about you (with tiny box of raisins and skim milk).

Maryanne and Jean, DH and I need to finish our wills, too. I wanted to go to a lawyer, but DH decided he would buy some software and try to do it himself. That was at least 2 years ago and I have yet to see a first draft. With no children, ours should be fairly simple. We are in agreement that when we are both gone, if there are any assets remaining we want them distributed among our nieces and nephews and that we would like our bodies to be donated to a medical school and then cremated. As far as possessions, I haven’t given much thought as yet to who I would want to receive my jewelry. We have a few paintings from DH’s parents that may be worth something, but I would expect those to go to his nephew. Beyond those items, I don’t think there is anything else worth quibbling over.

Maryanne, I love the eating healthy meme!

We are going to Happy Hour tonight with friends, which should be fun. The weather was nasty for the past 2 days, but today is bright and sunny with a projected high near 60 degrees, so it will be a nice night to get out of the house.

Pam--I thought about using one of those online will sites that are supposed to help you develop a will compatible with your state's laws. I have debated that for a year so there was nothing like setting an appointment with a lawyer to get it done. I also am donating my body to Marshall University's Medical School with cremation to follow. Enjoy your Happy Hour!

I'm sure software for wills works for a lot of people. My will needs to establish a trust for the cats in the event DH dies first. I have a whole life policy to fund it. That's the part that I probably would have someone look at should DH actually die first.

Maryanne, that’s nice that you are providing for the cats with your life insurance. Along with that, is there a person that will care for them after you’re gone? We have very old wills that should be updated. We had provisions for our mothers and siblings. Our moms have been gone a long time so that should be changed. My SIL and I were recently talking about wills. I told her DH and I were leaving our assets to each other. When the second of us passes, the remaining assets would be split among both of our families. She said that made sense to her. None of us know how long our assets need to support us. We are close to her children (all adults) and I wanted her to be able to explain to them why they weren’t in the will in that first round.

We're leaving our assets to each other with minor exceptions for items that really only have meaning to the other's family. Should I die while we still have this many cats and after DH died (probability low in other words) my best friend would be in charge of getting someone to live in the house or to hire pet sitters. It's a contingency for something that's possible but not likely. Once we're both gone as well as the cats, if anything's left, it would go to charity.

Maryanne--I also worry about Midnight should I check out before he does. No one in my family likes cats or wants the responsibility. He will be 16 years old this year.

My in house weatherman woke me up at 7 am to tell me I needed to go feed the colonies soon to avoid the rain. So I did. So of course it never really rained. I feel so powerful - I control the weather. Hee hee.......

My maternal grandfather was a "woody plant hybridizer". In other words, he developed and sold rhododendrons and azaleas. We all had plants named after us. As the oldest grandchild mine was very early on. And in fact it's probably more true to say the Maryann azalea and I were both named after the same person than to say this azalea was named after me. Also because I was an early effort I'm pretty ordinary looking and not nearly as well know as some of the later plants. I was looking for a photo for someone and found this one.

That’s a nice plan. It’s interesting that none of us have children. I don’t think I realized that until we were talking about wills and Pam mentioned them not having kids. That’s one more thing the 4 of us have in common.

Helene--I never realized that we did not have children; I think it was in the recesses but the discussion of the wills brought it out.

Tomorrow is the official weigh in day but I can tell you that I have spent 7 consecutive days exercising to House. I think someone said having him walk into your hospital room would make you think of your mortality.

Official first week weigh in: Down 4 pounds. We all know most of that is water weight but the scale doesn't care. Now, the slow loss if any begins!

None of my siblings have children either so the family line ends here. Which, now that I'm thinking about it, makes me wonder why I'm always wishing for more time to spend on ancestry.com.

The last season of House is available free "on demand". I watched episode 1. He's in prison. I suspect I never watched the last season as it rang no bells at all in my memory. I also confess I wasn't very interested in it.

The older seasons aren't free so maybe the last season wasn't very popular.

Maryanne--I read an article about the final season. Apparently Fox and Universal Studios were in real battle to lower costs in the next to last year. Laurie (House) was one of the highest paid on TV but was willing to take a cut. The issue between Fox and Universal Studios continued so they planned to end the series before it debuted for its last year. This gave them time to develop a story line and let the series end before it burned out.

"The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air."
They added, "The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one. The show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved."

I'm watching "Tidying Up" which is the Marie Kondo series on Netflix dealing with her working with families to declutter homes. It is very interesting.

I read Kondo’s book about tidying up. A lot of it made sense but she lost me about thanking your possessions for their service to you before donating or discarding items. I agreed with keep only the things you really love. Based on that philosophy, I could get rid of a lot more stuff.

Congrats on the 4 pounds. That’s a nice start for your year.

Oh my! I'm watching an episode of Tidying Up now in which they are dealing with mugs from various places. I'm guilty of getting a mug from each place I visit. I would give these people a heart attack if they came in my home.

The first focus is upon clothes. She makes them go throughout the house and bring out every clothing item and dump them into one spot. Afterwards, they go through each item to determine how much joy it brings them.
