Helene--I didn't know there were two Hoover Dams until I read your post. I guess the Florida one is officially Hoover Dam Dike, but I can see why people would more easily call it Hoover Dam.
Maryanne--I never heard of diaper banks.
If this continues, some may resort to illegal ways to obtain their food. Survival is survival. Personally, I think eviction notices to Section 8 housing residents is acting too quickly but money is money. Some barbers in our state give a limited number of free hair cuts a day to Federal employees.0 -
There’s a group on the Cape that collects items specifically for moms and babies. They collect diapers, formula and other baby items. A church in Hyannis gives them operating space. My church does a monetary collection for them every year. They pass out baby bottles that you can take home, fill with change and return for the collection. It sounds like some impromptu places are doing a similar thing to help out furloughed federal workers. We have businesses here that are specifically collecting for Coast Guard employees. The Coast Guard performs important services and rescue missions in FL.0

Seeing the chiropractor today. I don’t think I’v seen him since starting PT. I wonder if he’ll notice any improvement in mobility. I extended my PT another 3 weeks. I talked to Dan about it yesterday. I made improvements but I still have pain in the shoulder. The sharp pain is gone but I still have the dull ache. Next week would have been my last 2 sessions. He’ added new exercises and increased the reps. We both think I can make more improvement if we continue.0

Helene - I'm glad to hear the PT is helping! Maryanne0

Helene--Great news on the improvement and PT is helping.
Maryanne--A black cat scares the biggest dog/
Our state actually had a surplus this year. Three crazy delegates came up with the idea that the state should donate $10 million toward the border wall. In the meantime, we have a huge variety of things that can stand a little extra money.

Jean - our youngest - Indy - does the most constant tail wagging I've ever seen in a cat! I have to be careful to avoid it!0

I just realized that I've never seen a squirrel sleep.

Maryanne--I've never seen a sleeping squirrel so thanks for sharing that pic. Midnight doesn't do much tail wagging but he is quick to bite if you over stimulate a spot when petting, etc. I've learned to be quick to move.0

We never got mail yesterday (I know because (1) we had the flag up and mail to go out which is still there and (2) we ALWAYS have mail). But usps tracking is showing an ebay package delivered yesterday. And it's after 6 pm and still no mail today.
I thought the terrible package mixups - from many carriers, not just the post office - was a holiday thing but it seems to be continuing.
I'm still waiting for the post office to get back to me about an expensive law book that I returned and whose post office tracking just ends on 12/23 with a big red "ALERT". (The good news is that it finally occurred to me to check with the company who confirms they got it and have credited my account).0 -
Tree squirrels and sleeping:
For tree squirrels and flying squirrels, the nest consists of dens or drays. A den is created in the side of a tree and is typically constructed using moss and leaves for bedding. Dens can be built into abandoned woodpecker holes or the natural cavities of a tree. Because a den only needs to be covered on the portion facing outwards, they naturally offer squirrels better shelter and protection from wind and precipitation. For these reasons most species of tree squirrel prefer to use dens during the winter months. If however there are a shortage of natural dens in a certain area, leaf nests (otherwise known as drays) become more common.
A dray is a nest that is built in the branches of a tree and consists of leaves and twigs arranged as needed. A dray usually serves as a place for squirrels to seek shelter during warmer summer months while also providing a safe place to raise babies. However, drays can also be used by squirrels during the winter months as well. For a dray to provide shelter and warmth during these harsher months, squirrels will harden and thicken their drays by adding more layers of leaves, twigs, and moss. If you ever find a baby squirrel look up and you may see the nest.0 -
Jean - are you able to find the weight control oatmeal any more? Not in the stores here. Except for the variety pack, sold out on amazon and walmart online.0

DH brought up a good point I'd for some reason never thought about. There must be people who get their mail in the morning. There must be people who get Fed Ex or UPS deliveries in the morning. Why are we always at the end of every route? Good question with no obvious answer. You'd think we'd be one of their best customers. LOL! We order just about everything but fresh food online.0
-
They probably have fixed routes that they follow. We’ve always gotten afternoon deliveries of mail and parcel deliveries too. Our trash gets picked up in the mid-afternoon as well. That’s actually a plus. The one time we put the barrel out the night before, critters got into and scattered chicken bones all over the driveway. Now we put it out about 9 AM on trash days.0

Maryanne--I haven't seen the weight control oatmeal for some time. I was on subscribe and save with Amazon but they couldn't deliver the last.
Pam--That is great! I might steal "pure bread."

Jean - I need to compare the new (I think) protein + fiber oatmeal to the weight control specs. I ordered several boxes of the weight control variety mix online to hold me for awhile.0

Loved the pure bread. You ladies are amazing finding these things.0

Wind chill of 15 below zero tonight. I so "love" Winter. I also don't do well at eating during times like this.0

We’re debating going down to the beach later tonight to watch the lunar eclipse. It starts around 11:45 and lasts about an hour. It will be cold down there...probably in the 40s. I’m sure that sounds warm to you but it’s probably 30 colder than what we’re used to. A cold front is going through tonight. It might be related to the snow and cold the east coast is getting. We’ll be cool but clear.0
-
Helene--I do hope you enjoy the lunar eclipse. We have cloud coverage in addition to the cold temps, so I don't think I will be watching it.0
