Reading list: I have several things going.....
This is a slog of a novella about cause and effect and inevitability and fatalism.... a very German writer with a very German point of view here. I am not particularly enjoying it, but I am nearly finished.
Then there i this book that a church discussion group is reading:
It centers on human weakness and frailty and the need to be what you are called to be, warts and all. Kind of spiritual-light, to be honest.
And finally, I am reading this jewel:
The owners manual for my new car radio. The old one died, my daughter bought a new one. The instructions to operate it are 63 pages long. SIXTY THREE PAGES. And I still haven't figured out how to cut it off. Seriously.5 -

Weigh in day: Sunday
Previous weight: 190.4

Celebrated someones Birthday yesterday & TOM has been around. I think my weigh in was a success as I didn't have a gain nor a loss. Even though a loss would have been nice.6 -
Saturday check in
Food - Logged & on target
Water 1.3 l
Exercise - physio & 8069 steps
My husband and I had a great date night last night. We went to a French bistro which has a lot of healthy food and a focus on vegetables and vegetarian dishes. It was delicious and I was able to stay on track without any fuss. The only glitch was having some extra wine, but I had accounted for that in my calorie budget and also worked in extra steps walking to and from the restaurant from our house (about 35 minutes each way). Btw, no sciatica pain at all when walking!!
@sleepymom5 - Hope that your mom is ok & sending you a hug.
@Mrsbell8well - Lovely strawberries! You are so right about diet, eating whole foods and the quality of food that we take in.
@eyesopennow - Love how you included an instruction manual on your reading list! I have given up on them & just tell my 12 year old to set up any electronics.
@cyndiesstuff - You are persevering & today is a new day! Great idea for the team challenge!!
Will post my reading list shortly!4 -
My reading list - I also have a few books going
I listen to audiobooks when exercising or doing boring tasks like ironing & laundry. The title for this book is harsh but the book itself contains a lot of common sense. The gist of the book is to be comfortable with who you are & where you are at in life.
I love reading about running but stopped during my injury because I was so bummed out about it. Now that I am on the mend, I am back at it with this enjoyable book about women runners.
I have read this one a few times & am reading it again as my running has resumed. I know a lot of runners who gain weight when training for a race because your calorie needs to go up with the intense exercise. It can be tricky when you are trying to lose & train. I love this book & it has helped me in training in the past.

@cafelelia I’m going to check out that last book. How far did you use to run?1

Mrsbell8well wrote: »@cafelelia I’m going to check out that last book. How far did you use to run?
I really love this book for training. I have run all kinds of races & distances over the years including some half marathons, with my most recent one being last year. After that, I set the goal for a full marathon this year, but then I became injured (it’s not even a running injury!). I want to set that goal again but need to give myself some time with this gradual return to running. Maybe 2020, if I can swing it. If not, I will do another half.
Best of luck with the 10 k race!! I love that distance for a great race. 5 k is kind of short & over too quickly. Half & full marathons are huge training & time commitments. 10 k is just right!

Week 4
Weigh in day: Sunday May 26
Previous Weight: 129.2
Todays Weight: 130
Today my mom did her first half-marathon, so I walked to meet her at 6am and help her get checked in and ready to go. My sister was running the 10K which started about 30 minutes after moms start time, so i hung around to see her off, then i walked home and did meal prep before walking back to see my mom cross the finish line! Then my sister & I took her for lunch to celebrate. (i got 27,968 steps today!) My mom used to be pretty inactive but after my dad died she started walking every day and decided to train for this half-marathon and we’re very proud of her! She did it in great time too!
Last week i was busy dealing with my broken computer and my broken tooth. updates: computer is dead but the IT Guy managed to recover everything on to a hard drive, so nothing lost. Thankful for that.
My tooth situation is not so good. I had a metal filling in it from back in the olden days, and apparently they can expand over time, which this one did, and it cracked my tooth in half. Unfortunately, the crack goes way up into my mouth, like..so far up that the normal dentist can’t get at it, so i’ve been referred to an oral surgeon. I’m freaking out, but it is what it is.6 -
We live too remotely to get a newspaper delivered so getting the chance to relax with the Sunday paper & a cup of coffee at my dad’s was nice. I often read 2 books at a time. Evening is something light designed to ease me to sleep (currently The Litigators) and daytime something more thought provoking.

Daily check in for Saturday-Sunday May 25/26:
Logged: yes, a over yesterday, about even today
Water: good about 2L (counting sparkling lemon flavoured water)
Exercise: made it to the gym Saturday and Sunday.
I apologize for not posting, our house has been invaded by my in-laws since Friday afternoon. Very overwhelming, so tired, been anxious all weekend so far. Everyone should be gone by Tuesday husband leaves to go out of town Thursday until Sunday. Meanwhile back at school and work for our family tomorrow.
I think I’m caught up now, and I am so sorry to hear about friends and family, I hope everyone is doing better.
As for reading, in print it’s only a technical book for work. I read all of your posts, read articles on the internet, and listen to podcasts. Haven’t actually read a book for fun since maybe early 2018. Wow, I really need to change that..2 -
Daily check in for Saturday-Sunday May 25/26:
Logged: yes and on track
Water: at least 64 oz
Exercise: Saturday biked 20 min and walked 20 min Steps-7793
Sunday walked 20 min and 9298 steps
It seems like I just want to eat as a reward. That is all I wanted to do the past two days and I resisted for the most part. It was a crappy two days since I got the phone call about my Mom. I didn't know where I was staying, what I be doing, what I will be eating...I just had everything mapped out to the hotel last night. This morning I took time to figure out the rest of the trip, buy some healthy food, plan how my days are going to look for the most part. I feel a lot better about that stuff too but man do I want to eat crap for doing all that...but I didn't. It is weird how often I thought I needed a reward. Something for me to think about...
As far as my Mom...I don't know what to think. When I got there, my aunt was visiting and my Mom seemed like herself. She does have dementia but it didn't seem any worse then I visited in January. She was having difficulty getting up from sitting. She said she doesn't have pain but she doesn't seem to have any strength. She got really confused right before she went to bed, she couldn't remember how to stand up from her chair, she couldn't remember how she sleeps, if she takes her socks off, just little things like that. I don't know what to think. I am wondering if she is just declining more or if it is from the fall. I really think she could have a UTI but I was told she had urine cultures sent in the ER and they were fine. I may have them do them over. If she stays like this, I am going to have to look into her getting more care. Poor Mom...
Tomorrow...I am going to get up early, get to the gym, have breakfast here and head over. I really need to get my exercise in before I go over there since I don't really know what I will be doing over there or how late I will be there. I will not "reward" myself with food or wine tomorrow either. Ok...Idk why I am wide awake at this hour. I need to sleep if I want to get up early.
@ljdanny Wow! That was quite a productive day! Burning a lot of calories too. Great job!
@lennoncpa You are right, one day at a time! I love that you do the line dancing, what a fun way to burn calories! I am sorry to hear about your friend! It seemed like you were just in Vegas. That's so scary! I hope she gets better soon.
@jugar Thank you! I appreciate it
@hope002 Hope all is going ok. We miss you checking in.
@Mrsbell8well You have been doing so well with your runs! You will do great in the 10K!
@cyndiesstuff Hope today was better with the pain. That makes a difficult situation even more difficult. You will turn this around. I made a plan this am because I was really just flying by the seat of my pants with this trip. I am staying at a hotel that has breakfast and a gym, I bought stuff to make my lunch, I usually buy wine or prosecco but my Mom isn't drinking now a days so I bought a scale to keep down here instead.
@kirsten11872 That loss was amazing! You are doing great! Keep it going!!
@carlsoda I am the same way when I am hungry. I don't make the greatest choices but it sounds like you evened it out with such a light dinner.Hope you had a fun hike!
@eyesopennow Lol! That last one looks pretty exciting! I am going to check out the Simon Peter one though...
@CassieGetsFit2013 Maintaining isn't bad at all! Nice job!
@Cafelelia What a nice date night. Isn't it great that going out doesn't mean you have to blow the progress you have made? I like how you balanced the extra wine with the extra walking! I am reading the same book as you! Lol!
@bmaison2014 Maintaining isn't a bad thing. How are things going? We are here if you need anything!
@twyla77 That is so awesome how your Mom went from being inactive to running a 10K! It is nice how you and your sister were there to support her! Glad your files were saved but sad about your tooth. Good luck at the oral surgeon.
@Julie8468 It is tough having house guests-I know from experience Lol! Hugs! Hopefully you are back to your usual routine soon!5 -

The two books I am reading and the stack of magazines I want to catch up with. Those two books were recommended to me. I just started the Subtle Art...so far the message seems to be don't sweat the small stuff. I usually read just for enjoyment but now that I am listening to these podcasts I am trying to read some things that actually may help me. We will see...
I enjoyed seeing what everyone is reading and now have some suggestions for new books!7 -
@sleepymom5 I’m so proud of you for all your planning. You are really doing a great job. This is what our life is about and adapting to changes. Good luck with your mom.
@nstephenson01 I am a fan of Dr McGregors. Have you checked out his app daily dozen?
@twyla77 I am so impressed with all your steps. And your mom doing a 1/2 marathon wow and a 10K for your sister. Those are huge time commitments. What a lovely celebration.
@Cafelelia your running is impressive. Good luck with your healing. I have flirted w 1/2 marathon but it is such a big time commitment. And I trained 3 times for a marathon and never made it to a race. Injuries each time but it’s always hidden in the back of my mind. That and hiking the Appalachian trail.1 -

@twyla77 wowow. good for your mom. how old is she? and that sure is a lot of steps!! you go girl. and that is just a small gain. could be water retention from all the walking. you will be ok with that tooth. where is it at? front back? maybe an implant? i have numerous implants. i love them. but they are pricey.
@nstephenson01 love your reading list!!

Daily check in Sunday
Food-lots of good nutrition
Water lots with huge glasses of herbal peppermint sun tea.
Exercise am 70 minutes training run for 10K
Yoga 10 minutes
Steps 17,431
Such a lovely day yesterday. After my run I planted all my herb pots on our deck. 18 marigolds, 1 jalapeño and a cherry tomato plant. Looks so pretty and wonderful to have fresh herbs.
I made chocolate almond coconut balls for the freezer and prepped papaya, jicama with lime and chili, kale, broccolini, and a Mexican quinoa one pot dinner. And gorged all day on those strawberries. I have beautiful organic rhubarb. Made a vegan pie crust for strawberry rhubarb tart but the strawberries were too delicious to bake with. I’m going buy some for the tart.
After dinner mom, Molly and I sat on deck and played gin rummy late into the night watching fireflies and enjoying the cool breezes. Stayed out till the rain started coming down right at the end of the game. Such a perfect day.5 -
This was my latest find. Love history. I haven't started reading it yet. Its on the agenda for the night!!

Here’s my daughter and her cake mommy baked
Guys I had a slice and it was awesome. I ate too little on Saturday bc was so busy, so no guilt here for extra calories. I didn’t track yesterday (but didn’t go too crazy)
Today I am back to eating good and clean.
Going over to inlaws and then pool maybe. It been a busy weekend. We cooked and cleaned and baked all Saturday. Yesterday had people over from 12-7pm and today we can finally relax some

What I bought...kitten heel black pattern leather pumps, herbs for the deck, and taupe shoes from Amazon to match this pretty skirt and angel blouse that I’ve been waiting to wear. And still in budget 😉6 -
@lenka1 your daughter is so pretty. She looks just like you and such a gorgeous cake1

I checked in yesterday so heading off to the gym. Have a great day everyone!
@MrsBell8well My brother hiked almost half of the Appalachian trail. I dropped him in Maryland (or was it Va?) and he just crossed into Maine when he had to stop. He had intestinal problems that they couldn't find the cause for months after he stopped. He also had bad plantar fasciitis . Apparently at one point in PA it is very rocky and he thinks that started it. Good experience for him otherwise. He was so bummed he had to stop. Sounds like you had a nice day yesterday! Love the stuff you bought! So pretty!
@cyndiesstuff I am sorry to hear that you are struggling. It sounds like you still pushed through and prepped for success! The future Cyndie thanks you!
@Lenka1 Wow! What a beautiful cake! You need to open a shop! Your daughter is so beautiful! Just like her Mama!4 -
Things I bought that aren't too exciting...the scale to keep down here for when I am visiting. I am what I was at home so it seems to be accurate. I also bought a $1 mug so I didn't have to keep drinking out of paper cups at the hotel Lol! I will keep that at her place when I am done too!5 -
@Mrsbell8well - great finds! You have great style! I love your deck lined with pots - I do the same thing!
@lenka1 - your daughter looks so happy! Great job on the cake
@cyndiesstuff - hope you are not feeling so sore today. Have you eliminated gluten from your diet or at least for a few weeks to see if the pain goes away?
@sleepymom5 - glad you are all settled and now you can focus on your mom. Glad you have support down there too (auntie)
Sunday check in
Food - didn’t log but I only ate healthy foods
Water - plenty
Exercise - lots! 5 mile hike at a hilly state park. It was such a beautiful day, temp and weather perfect!
Today’s plan: first off after coffee I need to dye my roots...I am showing my age. If anyone wants to try a more natural hair dye I highly recommend Madison Reed. Never damages my hair! The. We are going into the cities to hit Trader Joe’s, return some shoes to Sierra Trading and hit the outlet mall. I hear there are big sales today. I’ll post tonight what I buy! It may just be gluten free crisp bread from TJ’s hahaha!
Happy Memorial Day to all my US friends - take time today to remember the sacrifices our men and women made so we can live this amazing peaceful life we have in a much safer world.6 -

A pound down. Happy with that. I had a big joy eat at the weekend as it is our engagement anniversary. We always have champagne with Bacon Sandwiches, strawberries and cream cake. I feel a bit like a lucked out with that one. I am not sleepying well at the moment. Just poor sleep discipline make me late to sleep not good.
@sleepymom5 I hope your mum is ok. Thinking of you.6 -
Check in for Sunday
Food - Logged & under
Water 1 l
Exercise - Physio & 2k steps
I am under pressure to meet some work deadlines this week so had to work late last night & probably for the next few days. Could not get running in last night but will try later today. I have been so focused on my deadline that I have not bought anything yesterday & today! Will post later in that.
@Mrsbell8well - you should continue to flirt with the half marathon idea! It is a big time commitment but only closer to race day when the long runs become pretty long. If you are running 10 k, you are almost halfway! Given your weight loss & exercise, you may have a different experience with training this time. Like anything, you find a plan that works for you and follow it. Also you can go to a running clinic or get a coach (they are online too) to help you to avoid injury, discuss nutrition & stay in track. Just a thought!
@sleepymom5 - hope that you mom is ok. It is not easy having aging parents. And omg, I love that Jen Sincero book. Have the audiobook & she got me through the last part of my half marathon training last year.
@Lenka1 - your daughter is adorable & you have quite the baking talent!! That cake is lovely!2 -
These are my irises in my front garden
This is what I bought today. It is the flowers and the vegetables that I bought. I love to garden. The gardens are too wet though. But I was able to plant my flower pots and planters.
8 -
What I bought today (well my son bought it for me!). This will help me get through my work tonight. Not a big coffee drinker after the morning, I need it now!
@cyndiesstuff - your flowers are lovely!!

Recent purchases. The first is my answer to the question "what else can I do besides throw a shoe through the television at 2 AM when Wyfe has insomnia?"
And this one is an ingredient I ordered a few weeks back. I am going to make Bermuda Fish Chowder in the next week or two, and this is a wonderful garnish for it. I just have to get to the market and pick up what I need, not the least of which is several fish heads. And some dark rum. (Here's the recipe if you are curious. It is amazing.)
