I am going to a party today. It's going to be a lot of yummy food and I do not know how to behave in this situation. Any advise?

@hope002 First, you are doing the right thing -- you are making a plan so you are not overwhelmed by the moment.

My advice is make a calorie budget -- if the party is at dinner time, eat light at lunch and you'll know what you have left to "spend" at the party. If it is a sit-down affair, overdose your plate on lower calorie options, get a taste of everything else. Heavy on veggies, a bit lighter on meats, just a taste of potatoes, rice, and bread dishes. Get a taste of someone else's dessert. If it is a "walk around and graze" sort of party, you're in the clear. Get a taste of everything, and then abstain of all but the low cal stuff -- you can tell your hosts that yes, you tasted that potato souffle with the creme au chevre truffle sauce, and it was delish. No one will be watching how much you eat, trust me. But if they do, just admit you are watching calories and everything tastes wonderful. If it's a cookout, no bun, light on potato dishes, cut back on things like heavily sauced bean dishes (lots of brown sugar in most baked beans.)

Another issue of course is alcohol. 100 calories plus or minus per glass of wine or shot of liquor, 125 per beer. If you want to imbibe, make it a choice as part of your calorie budget.

If you're an active food logger, make notes in your phone from time to time and get it entered later. Even if you get back home and discover that you underestimated how many calories you were taking in, your restraint at the party will at least have prevented you from going WAY off the path.

The other option is to say *kitten* it and just enjoy yourself, and get back on the horse tomorrow. Speaking personally, I throw away about three days of progress every time I do this, so I cannot decide to take this approach lightly. YMMV.

Whatever you do, have a great time! Celebrate, just remember, you don''t have to eat a lot to enjoy the party.

@hope002 I usually bring my own food and drink or eat ahead of time. Then at the party I would focus on fun and conversation and ignore the food completely. It’s such a short period of time and it’s just not worth it to me to gain 3 pounds or feeling out of control. Or stick to foods that you know you can log.

@eyesopennow great advice. And the alcohol was never my concern, I normally have 1-2 drinks. Food on the other hand... well I consider myself a food addict, I can never say no to food, especially yummy food sitting right in front of you. I guess I will go with *kitten*

Happy Saturday everyone. I had a repairman at my house all morning so I wasn’t able to go to my line dancing class. I haven’t been to that class since January because I was working Saturdays with tax season, and then I was out of town. Oh well, I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

Tomorrow one of my sons and his girlfriend are going to bring their bicycles over and we are going to ride to brunch somewhere. I like that idea and got my bike all ready to go!! Filled the tires and greased the chain.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy whatever you’re doing 😀

    Check in Friday
    Food- Logged & under
    Water1.5 l
Exercise- I physio, 11488 steps including 18 minute run

We are having a big family dinner out to ight so have planned my meal in advance & no Prosecco allowed!

@hope002 - I agree with the folks above to have a plan & even an estimated calorie budget. I find it helps to limit the alcohol by sipping one drink over a long period. Red wine is good for that. If there is a food table with snacks, just stay far away from it!

Ok. Sorry I have been MIA. I have been reading posts though. All caught up. I am finally done with my class so now I will have more time. I had to work a little extra this week both my bosses were off. I feel like time is wasting and I do not have time for myself. I'm trying to get some rooms organized before this baby comes. I know it's not coming til October but I do not want to spend my summer weekends in the house organizing. I like to be outside. Today has not been going well. My kitchen is not built for short people like me so when I reached for something it fell out of the cabinet off my head and on to the floor and broke. Then I dropped my protein shake. And to top it off I fell half way into the pool, the cover is on but those elephant covers do not hold a human, lol. Good thing I was by the stairs. Tonight is my niece's birthday we are going to an escape room and out to dinner. Should be fun. I'm getting my head back into the game. I need to get food shopping probably not happening today and not sure about tomorrow. I will get my meals planned for the week and get my exercise in is my plan. Oh and to be on here more.

@hope002 - you should eat. But is it the quantity? Or the type of food? Is it buffet style or sit down? What worries you?

Is it like me where you can keep eating and don’t even realize you’re no longer hungry. But mindlessly eating for pleasure? You need to figure out what you want to do. So if you were to sit back and write down a successful party attendance right now, what would it look like?

Is it possible to get away from being around food for too long? Or focus on talking to as many people as possible, talk, talk, talk - keeps you distracted.

Game: can you keep the same paper plate, if so serve yourself, but leave something behind, serve yourself again, and again leave another thing behind on the plate, and so on, of course something bigger than a pea. It can help figure out how many servings, and gradually leave less room for more food. But only if you can remember the game, don’t eat what you left the first, second, third, etc... time. Then hopefully discreetly trash the contents.

Is it a sit down meal? If so, is it better if someone else serves you? Or should you get in there and serve yourself? (My mom’s servings for us are massive)

If you need check ins, set your phone to buzz every hour, step away from the party and assess - are you ok? How do you feel? Can you stop?

For parties with my kids, depending on how they are, I will not serve myself until the kids have eaten. Slows down the eating “window” of time available for me to go nuts. Plus for cake or dessert, they almost always take a bite, then don’t like it, so I won’t take a serving for myself, I would take theirs, nibble then throw out the leftovers. I got to taste it, plus no one judges when a kid doesn’t finish their food.

A party sounds so much fun! Enjoy it!

    Hello & happy Saturday!😊

I thought I was going to lose this week, but I missed my workout on Thursday and went out to eat with the family last night so I missed that workout as well. I stayed the same, I’ll take it.

    Have a great weekend & Happy Mother’s Day!🥰🌸🌺🌷

@gottagetthisdown wow! nice check in!! good job.

@Mrsbell8well i love gardening in the rain. makes weeding so much easier. i always soak my garden the night before. makes the ground not as hard. good job at figuring out ebay. i use to buy and sell on ebay all the time. good job ignoring the scale. what positive affirmations will you be saying to yourself to help ease the tension?

@Zumba_Luvah very nice loss this week. the jean skirt is great motivation to help you make the commitement to lose. do you have a plan on how your going to do that?

@nstephenson01 nice loss!! woooooo whoooo. holy toledo girl, look at those steps. i have seen that goat yoga. sounds like a blast. after the winter you had that water fall is amazing. omg. you get to hike that. you truly are lucky..

@Shirin_K thanks for checking in!! good luck on your weekend!!

@Julie8468 nice day!! i love your party ideas. especially writing out what a successfull party looks like.

@sleepymom5 wow you have been having an event filled life lately. i am glad your niece is gone. and you will be heading to the shore. so has jim ever ran a bar before? whats the story with that. just curious. not a problem on the logging stuff, were co captions, you pick up my slack and i pick up yours. and i think our challenge is week 4. and i was right, week 4 , Week 4 - Team WEIGHT NO MORE. we should start brain storming ideas so we can create it. and i don't know where we are going to post the totals. i figure we will tag greg in a post with everyones totals and then he can go from there.

@hope002 it sounds like you got a lot of very good advice on how to control your urges at the party. and congrats! you were successfull. that is amazing. now.... take some time and really think about the accomplishment. think about how good it felt to be on track and in control and still enjoy yourself. think about how good it felt to go home and not feel like crap. really spend some time thinking about the positive change in behaviour. it is a wonderful NSV!!

@lennoncpa ohhh yea girl! way to be active. that sounds like fun.

@Cafelelia good job preplanning your outing. that will really help you stay on track.

@ljdanny so how did you do in that class? i know you were worried. it is so funny, when i remodeled my last house i put everything on my level!! my ex and i are both short so it worked out great, except when tall people came to visit. lol mke sure you make a food plan for the dinner!

@kirsten11872 maintains are good. keep it up and next week we will see a loss

@eyesopennow ohhhh yea buddy! love the new profile pic! so stinkin cute!! and thanks you for the mothers day wish. how are you doing? what is your plan for the week? remember, you made me a promise!!

    Water 64 oz
Exercise: steps 11,306, yoga 40 mins, ab challenge
    3 hours yard work

The “Cottage” looks so beautiful. We finished the fronts and sides and even mulched. The backyard is going to take another day.
We plotted out my hour run today through country roads. Molly’s going to take a book and station herself at certain legs of the run. She will drive it I will run it. Looks fun but the roads are narrow.
I really enjoyed logging yesterday and monitoring the daily dozen. I ate more fruits and vegetables than I have in a while.
I also touched base with one of my mentors from another team. She just hit her goal with over 135 pounds lost. She never wavered. She is doing dr Fuhrman’s plan. I am so determined. 2 days with out the scale. I feel more trusting now that I am eating better working out hard and doing what it takes to hit my goal. It doesn’t matter what the scale shows as long as I’m doing my part. I know from the past when I do my part the weight does come off.
@hope002 I love your pics! That was such a great idea! Good job.
@nstephenson01 love your waterfall. Your so courageous on your adventures.
I forgot to mention that I saw bear tracks on my run last week. I ran into the woods, saw the big tracks and ran back out. Thought about it took a big breath and ran back in. I had to get my run in so I kept going and said a lot of prayers.

For our weekly focus goals we have moved through finances, exercise, and health. This weeks focus coming up is our home. Finally! We have been so focused on everything else. I love “fly lady” and her 15 minutes a day cleaning plan. You work in weekly zones. Next Saturday we will spend the whole day organizing and cleaning as much as we can. Next Sunday we are taking off to the country home to celebrate Molly’s birthday. Just the 2 of us for 3 days vacation of rest and relaxation.

@eyesopennow ....what is your plan for the week? remember, you made me a promise!!

Definitely going to increase steps. Right now I am annoyed because I blistered my heel. being diabetic, even minor foot injuries are not as "meh" as for most people. So I have to make adjustments and give it a day or so to recover. I also am planning for weeknight eating. I return to work from stay-cation tomorrow, and my pattern on workdays has been to behave during the day (because I have no option) and then over-graze all evening. So "awareness training" is in order. I am prepping cut veggies to allow for grazing.
