Shopping list! I suppose it would help with coming back home without the only thing I set out to get! 🤣
Didn't try the phone yesterday so not sure whether things are fixed, or if I'm in by blind luck.3 -
Back from our short vacation which was not short on fun or food. Dreading facing the scale tomorrow morning but it must be done. Recovery from holidays and vacation start tomorrow- seriously! 😇2

Laurie, I'm not going to kid you and claim that the blend and extend system is a remotely good way to either use logging to restrict calories taken in, or that it yields data that are as useful as careful logging.
That said at the month long level, does it really matter whether you had chocolate lava cake on Tuesday and went 200 Cal over or on Tuesday and Wednesday and went over by 100 Cal a day?
Yes I used to go by the exact minute. Then, for the longest time, í just logged a day till I went to bed.
It's not coincidence that moving things over two or three days is also associated with more suboptimal eating choices on my part.
That said: if I'm the only one eating the batch and it does get eaten, again at the month or year long level I don't see that the exact day matters other than you lose granular information1 -
Seems to be working ... woohoo!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Yooly
What I was sort of thinking, PAV, was I want to be able to not binge everytime I have something "good" in the house. So far my system has just been to not bring it into the house - and if I did, to pretty well aknowledge that it was going to be gone in 5 minutes or so.
So...I'm thinking....if I'm logging/looking at larger quanities. Like go shopping on Monday buy food for the week and log it all at once. (that will really really confuse My Fitness Pal...lol...as I figure I'll just log it all in on one day just for the fun of it) May I'll get over the deprivation thing if I show myself how much food I get to have (it will be far more than I can possibly binge on) maybe I'll relearn how to pace myself? Maybe I can buy a box of crackers ... maybe they will last a few days? Maybe they won't? Maybe this is just a mental exercise?3 -
I rate inspiring because you're hamster wrangling. Hamster wrangling is the only way to wrangle the suckers! If what you are currently doing is working... I would be tempted not to touch! It doesn't sound as if it's working... so I would not hesitate to experiment in a way that makes some sense to you!2
-
Thank you for the upbeat response, PAV. I've ridden in the rodeo a few times - no wrangling though - just events. Maybe its my time of wrangling

Happy New Year to the best group here on this site! Always so supportive and understanding. Thank you for putting up with my rambles. I really appreciate all of you!1

I know New Year’s Day is just another day on the calendar but somehow it just feels different. The last year is gone and it’s a new start!
I began recovery from the holiday excesses Friday and there were some immediate promising results. While I’m pleased I could actually maintain my weight loss over the year, maybe this year I can get a bit lower? 🤞🤞🤞3 -
Hey: you're ahead of the game Ms Successful Maintainer! Though I will keep my 🤞 for you!
I'm a bit behind on mine!
In the big scheme of things--truth be told--all is good.
But in the daily scheme of things I am definitely in the "starting to get impacted by this" territory. I mean belts should NOT be optional!!!
I am still trying to figure out exact numbers as I tend to think in weight trends and I am trying to find a different weight trend app and work flow (possibly even go the spreadsheet route?) given that data portability and logging has become an issue.
That said, and bottom line, I am about 9lbs above where I would like to be. Close to 13lbs from the minimum I briefly hit in July 2020. So I have regressed to weight levels I last saw in February 2016 and I am at the absolute top, of normal BMI at 25.
So, I will have to do SOME thinking and experimentation. Possibly re-consider some priorities.
One thing I will probably have to tackle better is eating once I leave dad's place. Either by not engaging in it or by incorporating it into my day better.
It doesn't help that he lives in a vibrant commercial / fast food /restaurant district catering to the densely populated high-rises in that area!3 -
I feel your pain PAV! I’ve maintained but within a five pound window. And right now I’m looking in and not happy about that. My biggest change has been being unable to exercise like I did initially. And the med changes. Just a constant juggling to keep a balance and fewer calories to work with.
Is there any way you can eat before a dad visit? Or bring something with you to take the edge off until you get past the fast food? Can you stash some food in dads freezer?
Funny how changes in routines throw off ones habits. 🤔 I’m sure you’ll find a way to reign it in and get back to your svelte self!3 -
I logged yesterday (though I do have to add my pudding cup to my late night snackies). I also prelogged today and did quite a bit of walking cause I decided to go to Trader Joe's for a few things. It is right about a mile walk so 2 miles round trip. May not seem like much, but I often failed to do a mile just a few months ago.
The walk did make my back ache but that is because I have a cut on my foot atm so I was walking a bit off. One of the cats got me this morning when I accidently nearly kicked him off the bed. He tried to grab hold and my big toes was in the way. Boy did that hurt. 100% my fault though.3 -
Ouch! Kiiiiiiity!!!!
Depending on time availability and priority and trade offs you're willing to make (I've traded book reading for audiobooks for example), having a nice food place like that within walking distance could be parlayed into incremental changes towards more activity in your day if such makes you happy.
Even though I admit to reverting to getting groceries by car... going for groceries multiple times a week and hand carrying them was a good excuse for me to set aside the time and engage in physical activity vs veg on the couch while actively losing.
And if I get over my unwillingness to pay a bit more I still walk down to the nearby grocery to get milk or bread or a tomato!3 -

Counting that my post visit victory was talking myself down from a pizza slice (~550 Cal) to an egg McMuffin, no butter (~300) instead... and really taking a minute to consider that I was eating this after i already had (a relatively smaller portioned but still complete) dinner followed by amuse-bouches and a glass of champagne within the timespan of my visit there... I don't think that physical hunger is 100% the issue that needs to be tackled here 🤯2 -
Back to the gym today but slowly. It might be time for another round of steroid shots. I’ll try to hold off so I can get them closer to vacation times.
PAV - maybe it’s time to consider why visiting dad triggers comfort eating? I speak from experience here. Dealing with my sainted mom often resulted in uncontrollable snacking. Parents seem to be able to push all our buttons! I’m trying really really really hard not to do that to son.1 -
I hope you can pull off your "delay" as desired!
In other news, I don't think the trigger for myself is a big mystery.
Of course a trigger by itself won't do much.Trigger plus opportunity plus propensity plus impetus... that's another issue. The question is what, if anything, I will do about it!1 -
Impetus....always a trouble maker1

I struggle with wanting to eat when I am not hungry and am working on fixing that. It is HARD. I think a lot of it comes from habit. I am so used to eating an evening snack (for example) that it is all I can think about at night. I'm not hungry at all. Usually I am still super full from dinner, but I still eat it.
That is why I got myself some of the jello and pudding cups. It is already portion controlled and I get that little something sweet at the end of the day that I crave. Hopefully that helps.3 -
Those pudding cups are a manna from heaven. Forgot about them (again!) Still not really walking - but going to need a friend grocery store run soon. They will be on my list.2

New here
I really like a mini bag of smart pop popcorn. I throw a few cholate chips in. Only 140 calories and I get a sweet and salty hit. Easy to squeeze into a calorie count and tricks my stomach into thinking I am getting a lot more4 -

Welcome! Jump in anywhere and feel free to ask questions. We all need every bit of support we can get.
Today I went out to lunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Luckily the restaurant has a lighter menu so I managed to eat under 400 calories. It wasn’t much food or what I really wanted but certainly adequate. And I can have an evening meal and maybe a snack tonight.3 -
I have eaten healthy for almost a week….yay me….I am happy if I inspired anyone along the way….I, too have gained back a ton of weight but I am here now and that’s what counts!3

Is Bella back?….hello everyone!3

Yo Connie! Sadly no signs of Garfield as of yet
Hey... the pop-corn mini bag with chocolate chip-its or whatever they're called... that's an awesome idea!
In fact the Redenbacher 94% fat free stuff is not bad AT ALL!
Even though I have some trouble believing the super low calories given that dry corn grain is 308 Cal per 100g which makes the 57g 180 Cal bag a bit of a stretch once you account for the oil... I choose to believe the low calories are because of all the fiber in the popcorn!
Hmm.... I should also look into making my mini chocolate egg white mug-cakes again... my initial attempts were baed on "dutch girl's" recipe here https://countingcalscuisine.tumblr.com/post/125339675472
It evolved, of course... but I haven't kept notes!
They're not a terrible breakfast... or even for a night time desert like/food like snack type "pudding" cup1 -
Hi, Scoutmom. Nice to meet you. I love your popcorn/chocolate chip idea:) I always like throwing a few M&Ms into popcorn. That works well at a theatre when you are sharing your little bag of M&Ms with a few people.
But my worry is that if I buy a bag of them or chocolate chips I'll not be able to resist the temptation of sneaking a few of them here and there and finish them off in the first day.

I buy the smallest bag possible and then keep them in an inconvenient spot. While my popcorn is popping I then dig them out and weight them and throw that bag right back up in the cabinet out of my reach and eyesight. Sounds silly but if I see it I will eat it!3 -
Does not sound silly at all! I can use that technique - especially now. I have very high cabinets - the top shelves require a ladder. That might just break the cycle2

Ugh….two new tires this morning….I haven’t had a car for almost three days…at least my son in law is taking the car and picking it up….also waiting on surgeon to call and schedule johns hip replacement….he is in so much pain…..I really n m car to escape!2

Quite the day, Connie. Hope it all comes together well.3

Went to the funeral of an elderly friend today. She had been very ill for a long time and finally passed peacefully on Christmas Eve. It was more of a celebration of her long life rather than sadness.
But that kind of set the tone for a somber reflective day. Reminded me to enjoy each day and hold my loved ones close!3 -
Thank you for sharing with us, Yooly. Very good to remember how important our loved ones are and how lucky we are to have them with us on this crazy planet. I'm sorry for your loss ... especially over the holidays.3
