@Yoolypr I'm in the middle of the US. I walk outside in the spring and fall, but winter is mostly too cold and summer mostly too hot. I have asthma and being outside when it's too hot or cold messes with my breathing. Our high yesterday was 18F, today is supposed to be a warm 34F.

It is almost always hot on the SW coast of Florida….I wish I could walk more because I really enjoyed the solitude on my walks….I keep thinking if I lose more weight it will be easier…..I do walk more than I did 100 pounds ago….I was going to go to the pool today but I got lazy….we have the air on but I am sure the pool water is chilly….we always have some craziness going on at our house!…johns sugar was down to 184 this morning and he sees his doctor next Wed….at least his sugar level is slowly coming down….

I went looking at houses today and I am exhausted both physically and mentally. I found one I really like. Older home (built in 1880) and has a lot of character. There are things that are odd about it but that is part of bringing these older homes into the current times I have learned. Depending on the answers to some questions I had, I may put in an offer. With the market as it is though... who knows if I can offer enough to actually get it. So trying not to get too excited about it.

Ugh, I ate too much for supper. Not over calories but tummy is stuffed. We took Dad out for supper tonight. We lost Mom unexpectedly at the end of July and tomorrow would have been their 51st wedding anniversary. It's been a struggle without her over the holidays but it's our new normal. Unfortunately we are no strangers to loss.

In other news, my boss had to have emergency surgery on Thursday so I have been working extra hours to cover her shifts. There's only the 2 of us in our office. I work part-time normally, giving her a day off in the middle of the week, working Fridays together and working every other Saturday. With her out I work Monday-Saturday but it means more money for us and I like my job so it's ok. She goes to the doctor on Monday and I will find out then when she will be back to work.

@bmeadows380 Your brownies sound so good. I don't even like cranberries and I want to try them. Sounds like you have been really busy. Hope you can get your pipes warmed up.

@Athijade Fingers crossed it all works out with the house.

@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Sorry your surgery got postponed.

@conniewilkins56 Glad hubby's sugar levels are still going down. I don't walk outside very often but I do enjoy it when I can.

ended up going to town at the invitation of my sister yesterday, so none of the chores got done lol

Meanwhile, the pipes thawed out on their own, and I have water in my laundry room again - yeah! Told hubby that he'd better get his laundry done today because the forecast is calling for another deep freeze early this week and the pipes will likely freeze again because the weather is not cooperating in giving me an opportunity to get under the house and get that heater moved up.

The brownies turned out good! Husband liked them even though he was leery at first, so yeah!

Today its raining with temps hovering just above freezing; I figure things will get very nasty after dark and when temps drop back below freezing.

Today being Sunday will probably result in me taking a nap, and I'm going to try to get my two chicken roasted. I've been doing a lot of canning this year, including learning to can meat and broth, so I've been on the lookout for cheap meats on sale, then canning them up for use later. I've discovered that Brats can up beautifully and are quite versatile! And homemade broth is WAY better than store bought!

Bmeadows your husband is a very lucky man to have you as his wife! My goodness - you can do home repair, can food, cook, shop well! Wouldn’t want my husband to know there are talented women like you out there. I do some (a little) cooking, no preserving or canning, hate grocery shopping and certainly can’t fix a darn thing in or out of the house. You are a super woman!!!

I can cook or bake almost anything….my husband usually does the laundry…he washes, I dry and fold and put away….he can cook but doesn’t much….home repairs?….lol…..we own a screwdriver and a hammer…..I love grocery shopping….

Today johns sugar jumped back up after going down the past few days….glad he sees doc Wed. and still might have to get it stabilized at hospital….constant stress and anxiety for me concerning his health issues…..

The high stress and anxiety makes me eat….completely out of control today….I have got to get a handle on this….

I didn’t know people still can meat….my grandmother canned meat!….

How do you can a brat? Why would you can a brat? Aren't they in a package you keep in the fridge? (actually aren't they in school, and probably not considered an allowable food item in most cultures?!?!?! :astonished: )

Think of canned hams, Spam, Vienna sausages, chicken breast. Most meats are no longer preserved that way. However fish (tuna, salmon, sardines, clams) are still often canned although available frozen. Canned meat/fish is convenient because it’s basically precooked and ready to go.

    Yes, canned fish = tasty
Vienna sausages = cute (but too many calories)
Spam, omg, I can't believe I used to eat that *kitten*🤷🏻‍♂️😹
Corned beef.... that was interesting on toast or with hash browns but the fat and sodium are.... NOT good!

But brats? As I said, children should not be eaten!😹🤷🏻‍♂️😘

Amazon AWS terms of service paragraph 42.10, https://aws.amazon.com/service-terms/

I would concur with the use of canned brats under the conditions described; plus we would be able to legally use AWS software for Live combat operations! 😹
And I quote: .... must comply with the AWS Acceptable Use Policy. The Lumberyard Materials are not intended for use with life-critical or safety-critical systems, such as use in operation of medical equipment, automated transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, aircraft or air traffic control, nuclear facilities, manned spacecraft, or military use in connection with live combat. However, this restriction will not apply in the event of the occurrence (certified by the United States Centers for Disease Control or successor body) of a widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organized civilization.

In Ontario schools are closed again - maybe that is why people are canning brats?

On a more serious note - I've been reading a lot lately about how much drug use (mild drugs hopefully - not opiates) is going on with moms attempting to cope with with kids schooling from hope because of pandemic shutdowns. Very sad situations all around.

Sitting here trying to work but my anxiety is super high atm.

I found a house I liked. I put in an offer on it yesterday. So I am waiting to hear from my realtor if I was accepted. The market is insane so I am trying to be realistic, but I can't help but hope.

I don't know anything about canning anything. :D

Need some support, please. I'm a little stressed about my doctor's appointment tomorrow. In October my A1c was 6.4 and the doctor wanted to put me on Metformin. I asked him to give me time to get it down on my own. I'm hoping it's gone down enough that I don't have to be on medicine. I have lost 19.2 lbs since my last appointment. I have cut out all soda & candy and started eating low carb. If the number hasn't gone down I don't know what else to do. I will continue to lose weight because that needs to be done anyway, but don't know what other changes I can make.

Your grandkids were at least fortunate to have a mom who's a teacher. I can’t imagine the learning loss for kids with little or no online access. Think 3 kids in the household trying to share one computer! And parents who have little or no education themselves trying to help their kids. Or kids left alone at home while parent had to go to work every day. As a child of refugees, my parents could offer me little support even while I went to school. So many children will never recover from the lost education or social interaction.
It’s a veritable dark ages for years to come.

So true!…the school Amanda teaches at provided a computer for every student to use at home through some donation they received…..many had to stay home alone and the parents do not speak English….

Funny thing about my non- English speaking childhood is that both my sister and I became English teachers. Two nephews and their wives are also teachers.

Today I’m resting my cranky hip again. Hoping no surgery will be needed but exercising and steroids aren’t helping. I’ll find out tomorrow if there’s anyway else to try.

Managed to get a load of laundry done, the two roaster chickens I baked last night stripped and bone broth made of the remains, garbage collected and set out, the bird feeders refilled (it's going to be cold tonight and tomorrow, so I wanted to make sure they had something easy and plentiful to keep them going!), and my pellet stove thoroughly vacuumed out, the vacuum itself emptied and clean, and the brush run up the chimney to clean it out. And I'm getting ready to start a canner load of hamburger balls.

Working from home has its perks, especially when its a slow work day!

So far so good on the fast today - I had a point where I was really hungry but I got busy and worked through it. I'm thinking of making another pot of coffee, though - coffee does seem to help abate the hunger drive some, and while i am getting some calories from the almond milk I put into it, I use unsweetened so its 30 calories a cup and will still be below 100 calories even if I drink the whole 12 cup pot.

And this evening, I can always supplement with chicken broth if I need to. My goal is to stay below 300 calories today.

Reduced weight. Increased activity and exercise. Lower carb intake. Any one of the three, any two of the three, or all three in some magical combination! Still, ALL require some cooperation from one's body!

Well, my day has turned into crap!….I cleaned the refrigerator and went and got a few groceries…fixed lunch and made the bed, folded laundry….johns sugar is back to 288 way too high, I feel claustrophobic and can’t seem to focus on anything…I feel stressed and anxious and like I need a ton of carbs….I finally gave in and ate some frozen cookies from the holidays that I knew I should have thrown out….beef stir fry for dinner…. I need a shower and I need to wash my hair….I just have no drive and I feel myself becoming depressed…I gotta snap out of it….better tomorrow….just ugh

:( I'm sorry, Connie - don't beat yourself about it though; we all have these kinds of days! And just think about how far you've come and what the old you would have done 2 years ago if you'd had this kind of day! Eating some cookies from the holidays today? WAAYYY better than before, right? So you've still made good progress!

tomorrow will be better! (crosses fingers)

Housing market! Ugh! Hubby and I would love to downsize as we have way too much house for two old people. Our city has one of the highest costs of housing and living. Our house has quadrupled in value since we came here and we’d have to pay an exorbitant amount for much less house in lesser condition. Not to count the aggravation of house showing, packing and moving.
Seeing the orthopedist today. Hoping to get some resolution with the ongoing pain.

Housing is insane in my neighbourhood too. We are close to Toronto - where house prices seem to start close to $1 million these days - and since working from home became the norm during the pandemic house prices in my neighbourhood have quadrupled also. Houses are selling for several hundred thousand over asking many before the signs is even put up on the front lawn. But really, the only people making money through this is the banks with their mortgage interest, insurance companies and real estate. It really is a crime.

Hope it goes well with the orthopedist today, Yooly.

My older son, Mike, tested positive for covid yesterday. I spent much time with him and my daughter-in-law on Saturday and Sunday, and his son, The Boy, stayed over. So far no symptoms. Mike is fully vaccinated. The Boy isn't vaccinated yet - he is five - kind of on the cusp of the vaccination age.

I'm most worried about my younger son, Carl, who isn't vaccinated at all. He was with us all for a few hours on Sunday afternoon. I'm truly hoping he squeaks through this and decides to get vaccinated.

Going to be a bit hard for him to change his mind if he gets through this okay and his brother, who is fully vaccinated caught it. They both work in environments surrounded by many coworkers. Each has had several covid scares at work in the past 18 months. And the younger lives the more "dangerous" single life. Dating and going out with friends.

I'll be so glad when this is over.

At least I'll not be in danger of picking up too many treats at the grocery store for the next five days. :(
