Non Scale Victories

Oops, maybe wrong thread for the rant!🤔2

Ah Mr. PAV, the joys of being an immigrant child! Those of us who immigrated never completely belong in our native culture or our adopted culture. It’s a split personality thing. Rejecting culture of origin while desperately adopting a new culture second hand.
So you’re not really at home anywhere! And of course, your family will never quite understand you because they’re firmly committed to their culture while you have to tap dance between the two. Because your life will be spent in the adopted country.
I envied friends who easily talked about their parents high school days or life experiences and advice. I got none of that at home having to learn everyday lessons like what constitutes polite conversation, table manners, navigating education from observation. And I had to be a translator and cultural interpreter at home for parents confused by their new circumstances.
You do learn to think on your feet and quickly adapt! It’s an NSV that we’ve successfully managed to reach a modicum of adulthood.2 -
WOW - big NSV!!!!
And I think the rant maybe fit here perfectly. This is something we all have to deal with to a degree. SAYING NO. It is hard enough when you really feel "NO" but it gets stupid hard when five million hamsters are screaming "YES"
Maybe good for us all to revisit this concept just to remind us that it is perfectly okay / preferable to say NO.
I'm trying to be selfish about it and only say YES when I get to plan it and look forward to it for awhile. Every spur of the moment yes costs me a special YES or extra weight.2 -
Well my bonus I guess was that I only got here after high school. But there's definitely some of that going on. Of course the area is quite mixed culturally too. So lots of people navigate I guess!
Is there an adult near me?1 -
I don't see no adult round here2

All of this…..

Don't see the few cravings on my end! 😝0

Saw some friends and family I hadn’t seen since before Covid. I no longer get surprised reactions from the people I see regularly so it was surprising to get shocked looks. I must admit it was good for the ego!3

Today's NSV, returned to MFP and logged honestly for last 3 days after a long hiatus.
Missed everyone!4 -

Missed everyone!
Logging honestly- biggggg victory. Cause don’t we all want to paint ourselves as saints!
Good to have you back. 👋 I remember your posts as being very helpful.3 -
Let’s see - last years summer clothes all still fit just fine. Had plenty of leftover seat belt on the plane last week. Fit easily into a sky ride gondola. Not feeling horribly hot and sweaty despite 100 degree temperatures. A friend I haven’t seen in two years said I’m looking good. Didn’t cringe at any of my vacation photos.
So far so good.......2 -
Congratulations!!!!!! 🎉🥳🎊2

actually... that's a really really really good result you know. Regardless of whether it is a perfect result. It is still very very very very very very there's a word I'm looking for... ah, yes... GOOD!1

Being able to cross my legs while sitting at the airport.3 -

Wowsers!!!!
LEGS!!!!!
(OK I'll go back into my little corner now)
<admit it: I made you chuckle just a tiny bit in spite of everything that's going on in your life!>
<and I bet ya not being at the limit of the belt or having to use an extender was good too!>2 -
Those are some almost 76 year old legs, Mr. PAV. Not worth ogling but get me where I need to go. Yes I did chuckle! Thanks.
And yes airline travel is almost enjoyable. A foot of slack in the belt. Room in the seat. I had aisle seats without getting hit by attendants/ passengers going by. No bruises or red marks or aches from being squeezed. Traveling comfortably is surely one of the best benefits of losing weight.3 -
A small victory
For the past few days I've been craving takeout pizza and one of those little chocolate lava cakes. Bad idea because of calories and cost (low vision=little work=low funds!)
In this type of situation I usually just white knuckle through and then impulsively order at the end of a bad day.
Today I took a different approach!
I decided that yes I would have pizza - and a lava cake - in a planned manner. I picked up a frozen pizza at the grocery store and frozen lava cakes (2) and it was a pretty fine dinner - rather than a stressed out add on before bedtime. Two thirds of the calories and a quarter the cost. AND - I'm pretty pleased with myself.5 -
now that's an interesting end run around the problem! WAY TO GO!1

I’ve not been living a weight loss lifestyle lately but somethings seem to be shifting… I hope they become long-term changes 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I have to stop the deprivation / overindulgent cycle.2 -
Not much success or victories BUT- I haven’t given up! So there’s that at least.4

Yooly - I firmly believe "maintaining" is a major success!2

Trying to plan out what I need to pack for my upcoming trip. Unlike in the past, I am confronted with WAY too many clothing choices. Before I was stuck with what will fit or not be too uncomfortable 🥵.

What she said ☝️
Congratulations !!!1 -
Well there definitely won’t be any prancing about in swimwear but all the other clothes fit fine!2
-
What's wrong with prancing?!?!!1
-
Maybe you can flutter instead of prance. There is no age limit to being fabulous on a beach.3

I packed all my jeans up for my camp out this weekend and didn't think that I would need to wear pants today SHM! I decided to just try out my 18. Well they fit and feel good. When I put them on my son pointed out that I had two fingers of wiggle room in the waist. He's super supportive like that! Now I know that these pants are stretched out since I wore them when I was gaining but it still feels nice to have them on!4
