May the Fourth be with you!
- I am grateful to have woken up healthy to the start of a new week. My youngest son told me yesterday that his best buddy has been diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. She's only 36. This brought it home again how precious and precarious good health is...
- I am grateful for all my friends, real and virtual. I cherish the friends who, now we're all stuck, call me or send me long e-mails. I cherish my UAC friends who are even more necessary to my wellbeing than before lockdown.
- I am grateful for the fact that we are still able to go out for an hour. I try and savour every minute of these walks.
- I am grateful for the beautiful weather, sunny and warm. Early mornings are fantastic, even the subtle smells of grass and clean air (almost no traffic!) are intoxicating.
Have a good day everyone to the West of me, and I hope those of you to my East are enjoying your day.7 -
@Hollis100 Praying it's just a precaution. Better to be safe and checked out. Keep us posted.2

5th May
I'm not feeling very grateful this morning, rather resentful about this continuing lockdown, missing my kids, so that's really the time I have to do a gratitude list! I'll try:
- I am grateful for waking up healthy to another beautiful day
- I am grateful for my morning coffee, its taste, its effect, but especially its smell!
- I am grateful for the many thoughtful presents my kids have given me over the years and which continuously remind me of them and how much I love them, even if that makes me cry at the moment
- I am grateful that they too are healthy
- I am grateful for that stupid pidgeon that won't stop cooing. Life goes on!
Have a good day everyone, or a good night down under in Oz or in Japan!

@Chinkiri - I feel you. You are not alone. Most days we all need a great big hug and a Kleenex5
-
Bright but a nippy wind again today. I'm grateful for that second cup of (belgian chocolate flavoured) coffee i am having with lunch ... instead true home-made hot chocolate ... which requires ~ a full tablespoon of granuated sugar .... ( and that's BEFORE any marshmallows or whipped cream - which fortunately don't happen to be in the pantry)
and either today or tomorrow I will also be grateful for the smell of freshly baking bread wafting from my breadmaker machine.4 -
@Chinkiri - Sending hugs!4
-
Thank you for all the hugs! I feel a lot better this morning, having slept quite a lot, with lots of waking up, but still...
So, that's the first thing I am grateful for.
- I also am grateful that yesterday's horrible headache has gone
- I am grateful that my partner gave me a hand clearing weeds off the terrace. It's something he can still do for me. He has Alzheimer's, so there are not so many other things he can help me with.
- I am grateful for the beautiful weather. I don't need any shopping today, so I can use my full hour for a walk, which I am also grateful for.
- I am grateful for the light at the end of the tunnel. From Monday we can go out when we want, for however long, much further and without a document. I'm planning bike rides...
Have a good day everyone or make the best of whatever rotten day you're having!7 -

Can't wait to hear about where you bike rides ... take a camera (or snap pics with your phone! I keep forgetting about that option) Send us images of what you re-discover!3 -
I baked bread yesterday, and today is the cross-pot - end of the belgian chocolate and start of the salted caramel flavoured coffee4

I have been so slammed these past few days at work, plus contractors at the house, and I'm learning to really deal with my seemingly constant anxiety and depression during this new normal.
Things that I am really grateful for this morning:- My boss took a day off, so no being micro-managed today for me!
- I've secured a follow-up appointment on FaceTime with my therapist tomorrow, which is my day off.
- Tomorrow is my day off!
- I've been working on meditation techniques and taking time for myself during my work day to do mini-meditations.
- I haven't had to do any kind of exercise after work this week, because I'm getting it all in moving these patients around the past few days. I usually fly a desk for the 32 hours I am here, with the exception of my daily oxygen inventory that takes me all over the place, but doesn't close my "move" ring on my watch. My "move" ring closed at 9:15 this morning.
- The coffee that was waiting for me when I got up.
- Date Night at home with my husband last night. I stopped on the way home and picked up sushi, wine and some flowers and we had a lovely meal together.
It's taken a few weeks, but I am finally coming around to getting used to what is to be our new normal. Still not keen on my boss and his treatment of me, but now that I've regained my emotional footing? I have handled much worse than the likes of him and still come out on top!
@Chinkiri I was glad to see your post saying that you are feeling better. This is such a difficult time for so many (myself included), but we are all going to get through it. When I think about my feelings over the past week, the word that comes to mind is "overwhelmed" and I do not care for that feeling at all! I'm looking forward to hearing about your bike rides!3 -

@BMcC9, what brand is your coffee and where do you get it? Also, what are the calories like for a cup? We have been drinking Folgers French Vanilla for years, and there are times I feel like changing it up. It's only 5 calories a cup, so that is a good trade off if I don't switch it up.1 -
My coronavirus test results came in after 48 hours. Negative, thank goodness. The medical center said I could've had some other respiratory virus or possibly allergies. I had shortness of breath, winded when I walked around, and extreme fatigue for a few days. I think the fatigue was from all the disinfecting I've been doing at work.
I like being at home, but not when I can't leave my property. Self-quarantine gave me a strange feeling of being trapped -- and what if I forgot something? How would I get it, and if I asked friends or neighbors to bring it to me, how would I pay them without exposing them to the virus? Awful.
Heading out now for a long walk outside in the fresh air.5 -

black coffee comes in ~ 4 to 5 cals for pretty much anything .... it's the milk / h&h / cream / sugar / flavour-syrup shots that can make it calorie-expensive. I have it black, and the flavour comes steamed into the beans (and then ground by myself or the company)
The Salted Caramel (by Michaels) is the very last pack I bought at HomeSense before they closed for the time being. With HomeSense, you never know what flavour will happen to be available when you next need to buy some.
The Belgian Chocolate is by Van Houtte and is from my local grocery store (Sobey's) collection (several other VH flavours on the shelf include Irish Cream and Vanilla Hazelnut). I have also liked the PC Maple from Loblaws when it is "in season"3 -
@Hollis100 I am sooooo relieved to hear your results were negative! The test, alone, without the associated stress is a bear! Hoping I don’t ever have to do that again, but somehow, I just don’t see a way around it, working in healthcare. Try not to think of it as trapped. Think of it as an enforced work-life balance and use the time to do incredibly nice things for yourself. When I couldn’t leave the house I logged a LOT of hammock time with a good book. Lots of good books. I had to really try to convince myself it was just another long, lazy weekend for me.
Trust me, I feel you! I’m a homebody by nature, but when I was told I couldn’t leave? The rebel in me felt like, NOOOOOOOOOO!
Anyhoo, I’m glad you’re okay!4 -
@juliemouse83 Thanks for your kind, thoughtful comments. I live in chilly, rainy Pennsylvania, so it was hard to motivate myself to go outside in the yard -- but I just took off for a long walk in a nearby national park (celebration! yay, outside!) in the same chilly, wet weather, so I know it's all a matter of attitude.
I agree, the test was unpleasant, but I'd rather have a minute of twinging, cringing discomfort than walk around with a potentially devastating disease, undiagnosed. I was impressed by how the medical center handled everything. I called on a Sunday afternoon, had a test Monday morning, and results 2 days later. They were really on the ball.
Stay safe and know that all the rest of us non-medical types really appreciate everybody in your field right now.

@Hollis100 - I’m glad you’re okay. You have been doing a ton of disinfecting at work and that stuff does a number on your lungs. I’m going to assume they are also heavy duty powerful solutions. Please be careful.3

7th May
- I am grateful that I have woken up healthy again, to another beautiful morning. Rain forecast for Sunday, so Carpe Diem!
- That coffee!
- I am grateful that I made double portions of yesterday's lunch. It was delicious and I already look forward to today!
- I look forward to today's walk.
- I am grateful for my Mum's daily early morning phone call. She's 97 and incredibly positive.
Have a good day, everyone! Or sleep well, @lexabeep and @craigo3154 !6 -
@readyornot1234 Thanks for the good wishes. Yes, the disinfectant at work does bother my lungs a little without a mask, but I wear a mask (and gloves). I don't know how powerful it is -- I'm doing it indoors at the same time I'm working with the public.
Playing Sherlock Holmes: I've been winded at home when I'm not wearing a mask or using the disinfectant. The medical place that gave me the virus test thought I either had another respiratory virus or allergies. I believe the shortess of breath is probably allergies. Who knows. The disinfectant certainly can't help.3 -
Sooo today was a rough one. Two nights in a row I was woken up by a incredibly crazy noise coming from my phone for an early earthquake warning- well okay I lied- only one time did the alarm wake me up. The second time the quake woke me first and the alarm was late to the party. But it kept me awake by annoying me so much.I pretty much think unless it’s a six you better leave me the hell alone and stop pinging my phone. This is what happens when you live in an earthquake zone, you just want to sleep through it. I’m not sleeping well. I’m trying to be in a good mood but I’m not. Just no. Everything annoys me. Not sure if it’s the diet or the stressful situation.7
-
@Chinkiri - I so agree with the coffee this morning. It was so welcomed!
@lexabeep - Oh, no. I am not sleeping well either and to have that on top of it. When I visited CA I could never get used to the feeling of the earth swaying. I know locals do not feel it but as a guest it was a little disconcerting.
@hollis100 - Hopefully work is providing masks geared towards working with those chemicals. If not......maybe it is time to request?? I know, I know, we are are all happy to be working if we are but your health is important!! Certainly glad to hear test was negative.
On coffee (sorry late to the party - very busy at work) - I buy a really good plain coffee and flavor it myself, if wanted. Pure vanilla, chocolate, or other extracts.....a sprinkling of cinnamon, or pumpkin pie spice, etc. I do not measure - it's all trial and error. It saves me a ton of $$ too not running out to those coffee shops; although I have been known to spoil myself every month or two.1 -

I have been known (when stuck with generic-flavour grounds) to add vanilla or pumpkin pie spice mix, or apple pie spice mix etc etc3 -
All those sound great but my favorite is coffee with maple syrup.2

I'll have to try that. I have maple syrup that was aged in bourbon barrels.3 -
I'm struggling again... all started my mom lavishing me with belated birthday and easter treats last weekend... I tried giving it away to neighbors and friends but way too much and not enough takers. Today is my 3rd pass on uac... too ashamed to log it. I threw out the rest of the treats in the trash as I'm ashamed of 3rd in a row of passes for May. Then when I overdo the calorie budget, I throw caution to the wind and indulge. I'm having a hard tume getting back on track with out of control snacking and growing too content with my normal bmi range rather than motivated for ideal doctor's goal. I will try again tomorrow morning... Atleast exercise isn't an issue.6
-
@epangili That's why we're all here, because we have problems with food and/or exercise. Every day is a new day where we can start over with a fresh beginning.
I'm a sugar fiend, too. Since I have problems with sweets, I don't hestitate to throw them away. You can also give them to a food bank, I believe.
Start again tomorrow and remember one thing: you're worth the effort.
