I have been craving country style steak and gravy, rice, peas & carrots and homemade biscuits. This is the meal that my mama would always cook for me (birthday, achievements, cheer me up, etc.). I must say that mine was not as good as mamas and my biscuits were not made with lard and buttermilk but still was my comfort meal. I did a lot of walking and exercise yesterday to counteract it. Not much else going on around here, the weather has been beautiful and walks around the farm have been pleasant. I have been reading every day but slack on posting, I have seen lots of successes and also lots of support!!! Y’all are all truly awesome. We are in this together and we can accomplish our goals.
@Freeglerock
All the tiny little bits add up! Good to have you in the step challenge. It sure keeps me going. Love the monthly view of weight loss. Great goals that should help you continue on this journey. Yep, we all get addicted to our trackers. You got the workout in and it counted, WIN!
@jedaschultz
Welcome to the step challenge. Just strive to reach your individual goal. You can do this. Good to be in the challenge with your daughter as well, double the accountability.
@tryagain5 - working a different job and a different shift can change your whole mindset. I hope that you get adjusted to it soon. How did the talk with your boss go? Hang in there, I bet you will do great. Still praying for good test results!
@ Cafelelia – Your son sure sounds like a bright young man. This remote learning/onsite learning with an entire different approach is not what we all hope for, but appears to be much better than last spring. A day off may be just what he needed. I have a friend whose grandson has the same problem, just not enough to challenge their minds. I sure pray that schools can get back to Normal soon but it sure doesn’t look like it.
@minstrilofsarcasm – I sure hope that your case of Covid is one of the mild ones. Praying for a complete and speedy recovery.
@kandi3570 –Great to see a drop in cholesterol. Congratulations on cutting the sugar and carbs. I think you can work the nuts in to your diet. I bet you and your daughter are having fun with the sports. Busy, but also rewarding.
@mainbeachbum – sorry to hear you are having an off week, hope you find your normal soon.
@melaniescott – look at the no change in weight as “it didn’t go up.” Hope you get the water fixed soon, I was without kitchen sink for a few days and found that very frustrating. Your meal sounds amazing!
@goingape – hope the classes are going great and the card making wounds like fun! I love sweet potato casserole with a turkey dinner.
@ mxlaw90 – Welcome -you have some good goals, you can and will do this! Hope that your run went well.
@kittengirl –Good to hear that you are doing well with your treatments. Continue to follow doctor’s orders and praying for a good scan results.

How did I forget to say: KEEP ON KEEPING ON..............................3

@Freeglerock - Your journey is so impressive! I hadn't realized just how much weight you've dropped so far. Fantastic job!
@Cafelelia - Your son actually sounds a lot like how I was in elementary school. The work we were doing was boring me, so I got up and started helping my peers instead or started doing whatever I wanted to do, merely because I didn't think it was worth working on something I already understood. Got in trouble a lot because of it. Whoops. It wasn't my fault the school system didn't cater to my academic prowess.
@melaniedscott - Do you want to come and cook for me? Goodness, all of that sounds so good. Now I'm hungry...My day today was good with a nice treat making cards with my sister. I’m off on Friday so looking forward to a nice long weekend. Still planning my meal for Sunday. Any great vegetable side dishes your would suggest? We are having turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy. All the classics.
@goingape - I used to make this dish for Thanksgiving every year, swapping in rice or quinoa for the farro whenever I didn't have any available. Over the years, I've been doubling the ratio of vegetables to grains, and it still turns out tasty. I'm debating just getting rid of the grains completely and letting it be a purely vegetable dish this year.

How is it Thursday already??minstrelofsarcasm
October Week One
Weigh In Day: Thursdays
PW (Previous Weight): 167.6 (October 1st)
CW (Current Weight): 166.4 (October 8th)
LTD (Loss to Date): 67.6 lbs
Oh, look. A loss. That's cool. I'll take it. It'll fluctuate for the next week or so anyway.
Status Report:
Still have Covid.
That it?
I mean, no.
My Covid symptoms have diminished to minor head-cold levels. Nasal congestion, a sneeze here or there, could easily be mistaken for allergy symptoms if not for the pounding headache and random bouts of dizziness. And then there's the MS symptoms...
I was very lucky that the woman who runs the cryotherapy machines was willing to let me come in for a session. The fever from Covid triggered an MS relapse, which resulted in my left arm going to pins and needles on Tuesday. Yesterday, it spread into my left leg down into my foot. Last night, I managed to get myself (with double masks on and extreme awareness of my breath) out of my apartment and over to the cryotherapy location. It was exactly what I needed. The inflammation around my spinal cord felt like it was melting away.
The owner told me to come after her standard operating hours, since she didn't want any of her other customers to be around when I came in. She had rigged up a system so she could still run the machine and monitor me while not being in the room, and had hospital-grade disinfectants at the ready after her heavy-duty filtration system had time to purge the room of potential viruses. I'm infinitely grateful to her. Definitely not in the mental space to be able to handle a full MS relapse right now.
So, how are you beyond Miss Rona?
Well, my eating has been... mostly okay. I've rediscovered my love for mug cookies, and I modified the recipe to be able to make them with protein powder, but that doesn't counteract the required sugar, which is where the majority of the calories come from. My current plan to fix this is to have hot tea instead, and see if that after-dinner hunger leaves with a soothing hot liquid rather than a soothing hot dessert.
Also, I miss the gym. I miss my gym friends. But I really don't want to get them sick.
What about next week?
Right now, I'm focused on getting through today. When I reach a point of not getting dizzy at random times throughout the day, maybe then I'll come up with some plan. But for now, it's one day at a time. And that's okay. When I started my health journey, I was taking it one decision at a time, and that worked for me, even if it was strict.
I'm going to be okay. Just need to keep my spirits up, drink plenty of water, and hold out for better days. They're coming.5 -

I'll take it! After all the food I ate the last two days. Ended up at Bojangles for lunch yesterday. Had a 3 piece dinner with slaw, no fries. We tried to go to a steak place for a nice meal but they were not opened until 4 pm and we didn't want to wait that long.
I had a great lunch on Tuesday with my daughter and grand daughter at First Watch, had a yummy salad and sandwich.3 -
Today is my first weigh in.
Today’s weight 216
Goal weight anything lower than 216 or 155
Original weight on 8/21/20 232
I would also like to drink more water and eat more plant based. I am avoiding flour and sugar and snacks. I eat three healthy meals a day.4 -

Good job! I'm vegetarian due to a severe meat allergy. I do eat eggs and a little cheese and milk. It's kinda funny how many veggies you can ACTUALLY eat and it be almost no calories.2 -
Hi all,
Been a busy week and the eating has been a bit hit and miss lol. Can I be excused for weigh in this week please? I know I'm already a bit up from junk food at weekend, plus totm, and it's my birthday tomorrow so while I'm going to try not to go mad then it's going to be a fairly relaxed weekend. Not helped by work getting me a HUGE cake, which is super sweet of them but there's only 2 of us in the house I'll have to either throw some away or try and farm off on the neighbours lol.3 -
Wednesday/Thursday check in
I am doing ok with eating and IF, and had a long walk today. Who knows what weigh in will be tomorrow as I had some saltier food yesterday. Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend! We usually host the big meal at home or at a restaurant near my mom’s house. This year we are all isolating, so it is just the 4 of us. We will see everyone on Zoom though. I bought an extra backyard heater, so we will host friends and neighbours for distanced drinks in the backyard through the weekend. We all just have to improvise and remember that we still have a lot to be thankful for. As for a plan, we are cooking a big, healthy meal, and my husband does smoked turkey in the smoker. I have a pie and a cake on order, so I will sample those. There will be wine, but I will keep it to my 2 or 3 glass maximum. With COVID numbers on the rise here, in these past few weeks, I squeezed in a lot of appointments for me and the family: hairdresser, haircuts, dentist, ortho, doctors etc. So maybe the second half of October will be a little less busy!
Thanks everyone for your support about my son this week. For those of you who don’t know, he is in a very uneven class split, with 17 grade 4s and 4 grade 5s (he is in grade 5). I love his teacher, and in spite of her skill and experience, she is struggling through no fault of her own. I have always made sure to commend her efforts to the principal. I have been patient throughout this mess, but Tuesday got to me as my boy was so inconsolable in that moment. In any event, the crisis helped facilitate a great resolution. The 4 grade 5 boys will be moved to the grade 5 class, which had a drop in students this week due to some kids opting for online only school. I know the new teacher and she is excellent as well. So everyone is now content, and I am hoping we can move forward with a few less crises each week (although my teen will still keep me on my toes)!
@podperson1 - Happy Birthday! It is good to get the cake out of the house, but freezing can be an option for many cakes too,
@minstrelsofscarcasm - I am so sorry that COVID triggered your MS symptoms and hope that they cryotherapy helped. Hang in there! Yup, my son sounds a lot like you!3 -

I was thinking about your son today, Lisa. That was an important time for me as a student too. Back then, we didn't speak up for ourselves. I thought to myself today, I'll bet this results in a solution. Good for him! He'll always remember this.2 -

Thursday check in: Steps not nearly enough 9600. Calories way over. 2155. I was starving all day today. And I couldn’t shake the sugar craving. I’m blaming pms. I don’t know if that’s valid or if I did the blaming first and then I had an excuse??? I had a candy bar. 2 individual bags of chips and peanut butter with chocolate chips in it. I did make a healthy meal, Veggie soup. Which I ate too much of too. Well anyway back to reaching my goals tomorrow.5

@Freeglerock
I too reckon it is just practice that is needed - you can't expect to be able to go full pelt on a new process. Takes time for the brain to build the wire and connections to make the process more automatic. I can just imagine the look of concentration on your face! But ultimately, work is a big part of life, and you need to be happy and confident in what you are doing and getting stressed over it can't be good. Talking to you boss sounds like a good plan, even just to get re-assurance. Take care of yourself
Thanks for the encouragement! It all helps. I haven't talked with my boss yet but have talked with several coworkers who have been encouraging me and that is helping. I still have been thinking about it and yes, being stressed over work every day doesn't sound like a good plan. Every coworker I've talked with says it just takes time and practice.
Glad you got your workout in, even if you have to have the numbers show up for you. It's funny how we all have these different things we need to have or do to make things work for us.
I hope your son starts doing better with the strange way of having to do school now. It has to be really hard for the kids not to have normal school. Hugs to you and him.3 -
Wow! Miss a couple of days and miss a lot of posts!
Still stress eating and not getting in enough water and not doing at least upper body workouts like I could be doing.
I gir my ABI test yesterday, the one where they were trying to figure out why my feet have been cold lately. The test was normal so there is no reason why they should be cold. I talked with one if my nurse neighbors and she used the word "idiopathic" just a fancy word for "we don't know why". The doctors office did say if it continues to let them know. Several days they seemed normal so I don't know what's going on.
Last night at work I was on the line I would be in if I go to 1st shift. It went so much better. I was there for 2 different rotations, so a total of 5 hours. I remembered to breathe and didn't think about it so much and I think that helped a lot.
I haven't talked with my boss yet but I do need to. Need to find out what they are thinking for me.3 -
@minstrelofsarcasm i sure hope you feel better soon. What an awful thing to have to go through. I feel it lurking around every corner as I’m in health care for mental health and substance abuse and we see people every day for labs and meds.3
-
I'm trying to catch up on posts. I had my neck surgery yesterday morning. I should be getting out of hospital today. I came yesterday at 6am. I woke up from surgery around 12:15 and didn't go back to sleep until 1:30am. Then I was awake at 4. I was hoping with all the drugs they give you I would have a good sleep except for when they would wake me but that didn't happen. One of the nurses said you never be able to guess I just had surgery because i can get up pretty well to go to the bathroom. If they would let me take a walk around the hallway i would. I'm hoping to start walking a little next week. I will definitely be watching my food intake. My sons girlfriend made me a cupcake, she works in a bakery, and i didn't eat it. I only had one meal yesterday and it was healthy. They also send a paper on your tray telling you how many calories your meals are. I am going to order my breakfast soon, I can only eat soft foods so breakfast is easy.4

Today is Friday and it has been an uneventful week. Lots of walking to counterbalance too much eating. I enjoyed my comfort meal so much Wednesday that I had the leftovers for supper again last night. I have succeeded in reaching my strength goals this week and have done great on the water. Well maybe not great, probably just adequate! I think I will install the water app on my phone. Amazing how we listen to our phone and ignore our own mind! Below is a picture that I took while walking our farm paths this week. The weather has been super here in NC and I have enjoyed being outside. Wishing all of you a great weekend. KEEP ON KEEPING ON………………………………….
@tryingagain5 – Great to read that work went better for you and that the test on your feet were normal. I hope that the normal remains with you.
@minstrelofsarcasm – congrats on the weight loss. Great to read that the Covid symptoms have diminished and that you were able to have the cryotherapy. Sounds like the owner is a very compassionate soul. You are soooooo right, it is one day at a time for most of us, heck: I minute at a time some days. Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.
@brown267 - good step totals
@pacsnc6 – congrats on the weight! Bojangles sounds good, I love the country ham biscuit there and now my mind is on that:):):) Also great to hear of family get togethers during Covid. Where there is a will there is a way.
@kiane50 – congrats on the weight, your diet sounds spot on! I am also trying to get more water, I may try one of those phone apps or have Alexia remind me about every hour or so. I seem to listen to her:):):)
@Podperson1 – freeze the cake in individual pieces or make your neighbors real happy!
@Cafelelia – Sounds like a good weekend planned for Thanksgiving. Wish y’all could get together but I guess with Zoom at least you will see each other. Enjoy your drinks with the friends, this pandemic has really made us realize how important friends are to us. So good to hear the school has made accommodations for your son’s education. I am a former educator and find that when there is a problem there is usually a solution. Getting a new teacher and a different class may be just what he needs for a new beginning for this school year.
@kandi3670 – a new day a new start a new you! Good attitude toward one day of eating the wrong things, you are determined and will succeed. I believe in you!
@GingerPwr - steady with the weight, congrats
!

To my Canadian friends: Happy Thanksgiving! The official day is Monday but I read that most families celebrate over the weekend. I hope that with Covid that you all find a way to celebrate.

@GingerPwr - Yep! Your new weigh day is Sunday.
@ljdanny - I hope you have a swift and successful recovery!
@tryingagain5 - Totally with you on the stress-eating. I need to get back on track, so I think I'm going to go back to my rules about snacks: 1.) First time I think about eating a snack, I drink 8 oz. of water, 2.) If I'm still hungry 20 minutes later, I eat something small (around 100 cals), 3.) If I'm hungry 20 minutes after that, I make a larger snack (250 cals or so) - I rarely, if ever, make it past the first snack2 -
