November, it is a tough month 🤔

We all know that November brings many challenges. All the family and friends gathering. The comfort foods and the long awaited Thanksgiving meal. And lets not forget Covid. I do not like to horde, but pick up an extra pack of the paper product of your choice.

And I hope everyone will be voting. I was really hoping for a third choice. But I hope that almost year.

So I think it would be fun to do a recipe swap. A favorite dish that everyone looks forward to for the holiday.

You do not have to limit it to just one dish. This month is about tradition. So tell us about some fun traditions your family has.

Shelley, we have been lucky the past 8+ years and been invited to Pete's mother's house for Thanksgiving. We would get dessert from Costco or some place...I have no Thanksgiving recipes...This year we will not be joining everyone at Pete's mom's because of Covid, so will probably have ramen noodle soup for dinner. :o

However...Nick's birthday is the 29th. He would have been 31. We celebrate him with this huge cookie that has vanilla ice cream in the middle. I don't know how to spell the name of the cookie, but Sara said she will make one and we will all partake in the celebration.

    Our vote is in!

Chris that cookie sandwich sounds wonderful. Anything with vanilla ice cream is great. I assume it was Nicks favorite? Thanksgiving is probably going to be different for lots of folks this year. So glad you voted.

Shelley - I’m with you...November is hard!! I host thanksgiving and have some good recipes to share for sure. What are you ladies doing this year? My family is conflicted about having our family dinner....but as it sits right now, we agreed to wear masks When not eating and plan on shortening the dinner.

We had a reasonable Halloween here....socially distant and masked up....but ok. Must buy candy from Bella....she got too much.....and it will tempt us all.

    Happy November!

I've always wanted to host Thanksgiving, but Derek's always blocked it. Now that he's moving out, I still can't cuz of Covid, so this year should be simple. Like Karen said, ramen noodles sounds just about right.

I don't think many parents took their kids out for Halloween last night either but some people made safe options for those who did. My neighbor duct-taped candy bars to his front fence with a sign "Boo! Please take one." - But he wouldn't be surprised if one person grabbed them all. He wasn't stressing it; just making an effort to help.

Karen I love your display. And the masked little pumpkin is so fitting! Now if you buy Bella's candy what is the plan for disposal? Spread out the family as much as possible also for that meal.

Paula that is so sad! Rocky and I host the dinner a lot. Or our daughter does. But we all share in the preparation. My son does good if he remembers what day it is! I am sorry to hear Derek is moving out again. Just the match maker in me. And I love cup of soup. Shrimp for me. And maybe a cup of hot cocoa. Maybe a Harry Potter movie night.

I wanted to use a 6" piece of PVC pipe on the railing for the candy. But it got stuck inside! Not enough angle on it. Darn. But I just put on my mask and handed it out!

We normally have a huge Thanksgiving with all the family at my parents house or my house. There’s usually at least 20 of us sometimes more. Because of Covid-19 we decided not to host everyone this year. Too many of us and I worry about my parents at their age. My mom and I will cook together for us, my niece who lives 4 houses down and my bff and her mom who’s next door. I think the 5 of us can socially distance but we will miss the rest of the family. We’ve always had large family holidays so this will be difficult. We’re going to keep it pretty simple. I pray that next year will be back to normal or a new normal.

I love holidays...this is so hard.

October was tough ladies.....we need to plan for November! This time of year is tough 🤗

Karen October was a really bad month for me also. I need a better plan. Starting with weighing in regularly again. And something about a dentist collecting candy....Muahahaha

Kathy while I know that a smaller gathering for Thanksgiving is not what any of us want. We will still have lots of fun. How about some photos of the dinner and guests. Lets make it fun. My daughter and her family keep to themselves a lot. But I don't know if we will do dinner or not. I will have to think on it.

Chris love the photo. Look at all those pumpkins and your little guy sure is growing.

Well I weighed myself, 153.8 Might have had something to do with all the candy. That is the highest I have been in a while. Time to go the other way.

Kathy I was thinking the same thing. Must make some changes!

Chris that is not a recommendation! If we are going to mimic one another lets do it in the 140's Gor awhile.

Paula you are headed in the right direction. Congratulations! I am going to join Hogwarts again. Don't think I will do great. I really am busy this month. But next month will be better!

Well the nitrates are starting to slowly creep back down. Still off the charts but I did notice a slight difference.

Sounds like we all need to adjust a bit huh? OK..here are my adjustments for November:

    Limit wine
    Stop eating by 7pm
If hungry, eat protein, not carbs

3 is enough...let's see if I can do those lol!

    Have a great day!

Adjustments sound good, Karen, thanks. Doing the analysis lets me remember what helped.
    • Find my Limits. I've learned I can cut cravings (enough to diet) if daily limits are 50 gm carbs and 1200 calories (maintenance works at 75 gm carbs & 1400 calories - plus extra if I work out).
    • Identify which foods I need every day (like chocolate collagen supplement & good oils like olive or avocado) and work menus around them.
    • Remember that "good foods" doesn't mean "all I can eat" (must even limit turkey jerky because of carbs).
    • Log, log, log all day & pre-log dinner. Max out good limits like protein & fats; but leave some buffer in the calories and carbs - the more left at the end of the day, the more the weight loss...
    • Eat slow, listen to my tummy, stop before I'm too full (even it it's one bite, put it back in fridge, it'll make a nice snack later). And savor all the good flavors (to avoid feeling deprived).
    • If I want something but shouldn't eat, have a safe drink to fill up my tummy (decaf coffee, diet soda, water, water, water).
    • Don't drink alcohol. I like alcohol a little bit too much. Even though whisky is lo-carb (and calories can fit), it's a slippery slope best avoided. It reduces my inhibitions and makes it to easy to succumb to temptation. It's nice, but I don't need it right now. I'll enjoy it again (in moderation) when I hit maintenance.

There are so many, but that's enough for now. Thanks again, Karen.

Okay, Shelley...heading for the high 140s. Hopefully, it'll be sometime next week. Gotta walk tomorrow. I've crawled back in bed all week. Somebody has to quit asking me what I really want to do at 4:00 in the morning. EGADS!!! :D

Karen I am with you, Paula has a great list. What is the 3 is enough referring to?

Chris I am going to have to start kicking you out of bed in the morning. No more crawling back into bed. No no no.

Paula great list. No alcohol problem for me. Which is good, I have enough of those problems. Starting the new Hogwarts challenge. Hope I can find time to do it.

Ok, we have our marching orders, now lets get busy marching! You know one great thing about wearing a uniform. It constantly lets you know if you add on any weight! Ouch!

Sometimes I get so caught up in the weight limit as aspect I forget a major issue is overall health. Six weeks ago I had an appointment with my endocrinologist regarding my blood sugar levels. They had gotten really high. I used the six weeks to concentrate on exercise and diet. I did well on the exercise with my 50 miles in October but I knew my diet could be better. My endo ran an A1C even though you usually can do it only every 3 months. But because I was having issues she got approval for 6 weeks.

My A1C had gone down 1.1 in six weeks which is a very good start. So no more whining I know the walking is helping and the weight loss will come. My major adjustment will be with my diet...especially snacking. I’m going to cut off eating at 8:00. I’m sure there will be others as the month progresses. Because I did so well in those 6 weeks my endo scheduled my next appointment for February. I hope to have an even lower A1C and weight loss. Sorry this post is so long but my eyes were opened by the endo and I’m a little proud of myself.

Just a reminder that we struggle but we also work hard in this battle for health and weight loss. Take care ladies!

Kathy I am betting my blood sugar levels are rivaled only by the nitrates in my large tank. Right off the chart. So I will also cut out eating after 7. I am using 7 since I eat breakfast at around 7-7:15 in the morning and would also like to use this time as a form of fasting.

I hope your numbers are even lower again. And you should be proud of yourself. You are doing great.

Got the dizzies yesterday...ugh. At least I got our walk done. I decided it was lack of food, so you all know what the rest of my day looked like... :o Got over it @ 3:00 p.m.

It's gotten really cold here, so no morning walk tomorrow. Talked my sweet DH into walking after the boys are picked up. :D
