@buniphuphu Thanks for the idea of listening to an audiobook. Often, I listen to Headspace's sleepcasts, which are kind of stories told in gentle voices, but I may try listening to a book I've already listened to.

Hi all. I tried sleeping with my weighted blanket on last night. I don't know that it helped, maybe it did. I was hoping it would help with my anxiety that wakes me up every 30 minutes to an hour for the first 4-5 hours of sleep. Tonight, I'm going to try spraying my pillow with lavender, the weighted blanket, and listening to a sleepcast (Headspace).

Hi all. I journaled about my self-sabotage. Here is what I wrote, maybe it will help someone else.
So, I read this article:

Something that spoke to me in this article was this:
"When our brains are tired, we resort to old habits and ways of doing things, even if they don’t work well. We are drawn to go with the familiar, even when a different option offers a clear advantage."
Another thing that spoke to me was this:
"A third way you may self-sabotage is by not dealing with problems until they get so big that you are forced to deal with them. You may feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task or feel like an imposter who doesn’t have what it takes to succeed. You may also procrastinate and avoid because you are perfectionistic, overthink things, or can’t decide where to begin. All of these tendencies tend to have an anxiety component."
I think these things are the reason I am self-sabotaging. I am chronically tired and that is causing problems. I am also tired in the sense that I have been trying to lose weight for so long, I am "tired" of making the effort. This is also where the second quote comes in: I am overwhelmed by the amount of weight I have to lose, often I feel like I will never be able to succeed and will die obese. I can't seem to make any progress, when I do, I self-sabotage and gain anything I've lost back.
So, what's the solution? I need to try to get better sleep (I am trying now). I need to break up my weight-loss goals into smaller increments. I need to focus on one step at a time instead of trying to climb the whole mountain. I know how to lose weight, that's never been the problem. Consistency has been the problem and I can't be consistent when I am self-sabotaging my efforts.5 -

@GabiV125 I order dry tart cherries online from Payson Fruit Growers. They are based in Utah. I've ordered from them for years. They sell bulk, bagged, with added sugar, without added sugar, chocolate, yogurt, organic, and juice. I like getting the 100 - 1oz. bags because then I don't have to weigh them out.1

Oooh, this is such a lovely dish! And how smart to have something set up as a Thanksgiving pie substitute!
🦃 I make a similar dish on a regular basis and had not thought about it for Thanksgiving -- great idea!
🍎 In case anyone else is interested, here's a no-sweetener variation: I dice some turnip and apple and some sweet fall vegetables (butternut squash, acorn squash, parsnip -- whatever's available) and steam in the microwave oven (just put in a covered dish). I sometimes add a handful of frozen cranberries to the mix. Then at the end, I add a splash of cashew milk and some spices, usually just cinnamon.

🍒 Tart cherries have shown up in the frozen fruit section of our grocery store. So if you are on a hunt, you might try there? I know grocery stores vary wildly, but it might be worth a peek.

I was glad to see that you are not beating yourself up, but instead searching for answers. I wish I had something wise to say to you, but I don't. Just know that there are others who understand and share in the struggle.2 -

@trooworld Love that article and I’m so glad that you wrote down your thoughts and shared them with us. Returning back to the familiar when we get stressed and overwhelmed by how big our tasks or goals can be are definitely two biggies. Sleep is vital! I hope that you can find what will work for you so you can get the much-needed rest that you require. Lack of sleep will raise your cortisol and that is a whole issue in itself. And yes, to focusing smaller on your weight loss and staying consistent. When I joined WW in January 2018 weighing 264 lbs., which was the highest recorded weight that I had ever been, I was overwhelmed by how much I had to lose. But I made one vow and that was to NEVER give up. I would tweak my plan and sometimes I changed it altogether. You have seen me do that a time or two. But I wouldn’t give up on the goal. I focused small and kept plugging along. It’s been almost three years to lose 72 lbs and I have more to go. I could look at others and how quickly they have lost their weight or get down on myself for “falling off the wagon” time after time, but that wouldn’t help me, and it won’t help you. You just keep plugging along and you will get there!!

Hi Team! Today was another busy one. For some reason, my workload has suddenly piled up with things to do, which has a lot to do with the season we are in. Today, I spent time creating a much-needed to-do list on one piece of paper and not a dozen post-its for work and my home life that was cluttering my desk. I feel like I can breathe better. Hubby and I also went up to our local nursery and bought a bunch of plants that will be planted in our backyard on Monday. We have been wanting to spruce up since we moved in and next spring it’s going to be so pretty and super low maintenance, which was important to us. I also bought some new violas for some of my containers on the porch. Several died when the weather had turned so warm, so hopefully, these little beauties will thrive. I was super happy to have a good loss this week and for the first time, I really feel that I’ve found a plan through intermittent fasting and low-carb eating that works well for me both physically and emotionally. And as we all know that is so very important to have any kind of long-term sucess.

Happy Saturday everyone. I love a calm, sunny Saturday morning. I finally had time to sit and read all the posts. I love seeing how everyone is doing. It is great to see all the ideas, encouragement and motivation everyone shares.

@TeresaW1020 Your plants/flowers sound beautiful. I'm terrible w/plants. Thank goodness my dad (who lives with us) has a "green thumb" or we would be in trouble. Good for you getting your "To Do" list done. Goodness I would be lost without Post It notes. I think I keep 3M in business. So glad you found the right mix of IF and low carb. Awesome weight loss. I have increased from 14 to 16-18 hrs. Also, I stop eating before 5pm on two days a week. This really helped last week.

@trooworld Yayyy for having your heart and mind in the right place! That is the biggest component of all. And as for the upcoming holiday, we both know that it’s only one day, or two if you count leftovers. Below I wrote about what my plan will for next week. I think it’s important going into the holidays with a plan. Do you have yours ready?
@adhmrh Funny story…I met my husband online and he couldn’t believe when I told him that I never used Post-its. So, a week or so later a little box arrived with all sizes of Post-its. I’ve been addicted to them ever since! I always try to be done eating by 5 pm on most days. I find it really helps me get in the longer fast. I LOVE strength training. Right now, I’m doing a Barre Pilates program that doesn’t use weights bigger than 2 lbs and I miss my heavy lifting. I think once you start doing it you will really like it. Plus, you do know that IF helps build muscle.
Hi Team! Today has been all about cleaning my furniture. Last month I bought a small portable upholstery and spot cleaner. Mostly because my dog thinks that our sofa and chairs are giant napkins. Now they smell and look good for my upcoming Christmas party. I’m getting excited about the party. I’ve planned out the games and we are doing a gift exchange where we have to buy a gift that starts with the first letter of our last name. Our last name starts with a W, so I bought a cute windchime and for the other one I bought a small wreath and hot glued Werther’s Original candies all over it. And of course, they are wrapped in white Christmas paper. I did have a good workout this morning and my weight was holding steady. Since I plan to splurge on Thanksgiving and of course the next day with the leftovers, I am going to be very strict with myself until then. I haven’t had wine in two months and hubby brought home a couple of very nice bottles. I’m excited!!

@trooworld What an insightful article, thanks for sharing. I definitely fall into that perfectionistic category and get overwhelmed. I know it's a very personal thing, but what has worked for me so far is to actually focus less on the scale. It's just one indicator of health. I am trying to focus more on gaining health - doing what is right for my body and trusting that eventually this will also bring the scale down. I am taking baby steps so I don't overwhelm myself again. I hope that you can find what you need to do to be more consistent - I really think this is the key for many of us.

I had a pretty relaxed weekend. Definitely ate too much and didn't track everything, but did exercise on all days so I feel pretty good regardless. Back on track for this week, and we'll see what this week brings!!
I realised today that I haven't been eating breakfast during the week, so I have kind of been doing IF (around 14 hours). I have tried IF in the past, but could never stick to any of it as I'd just get too hungry (read: hangry). But now here I am doing it without even realising! Realistically, I don't see myself extending my fast much further just because of how my day is structured, but I'm happy enough with doing what I'm doing.

@TwistedSassette You are welcome! LOL I am actually doing the opposite of focusing less on the scale this week: I am focusing MORE on it by weighing daily. I think I have had the opposite problem and not thinking about the scale much. It sounds like it is a good, healthy idea for you to not focus on the scale though. I agree, consistency is so key and so hard to accomplish! That's interesting that you are doing IF without even meaning to. Good luck this week!
@adhmrh I love to read and I agree with you, coffee, a good book, and a fireplace is a dream! I don't have a fireplace but I sometimes put on one of those fireplace videos on my TV and listen to the fire crackle. When we bought our condo, I was hoping that it would have a fireplace but that didn't work out. It's good you are thinking about Thanksgiving. I am, too!
