Saw a challenge in my town to do 21 miles for ‘21. I thought that was cool. Who wants to do that for January?
Walked 40 minutes today.
is that 21 miles for January? per month? I think it is a great idea. I had a laugh today on Downsizers, where one of the co-captains had a birthday yesterday and walked 9.11 miles. One of her teammates declared that she would have to CALL 911 if she walked that far. But 21 miles in a month? I think we can handle that.5 -
I can't remember who posted it but someone posted by-month "daily accountability" in coloring in each month (coloring each day you meet your workout/etc goal). I thought the idea was really cool and made one for myself and others to use. The numbers didn't come out too great but I think people get the gist! I also attached it as a file if that's easier for people to download and print as well as suggested colors and a test page

@Gidgitgoescrazy
I'm with you on the symbolic importance of starting the new year plan right away on the 1st. At the very least, it gives us two days to be really tuned up and ready to go when our F2F month begins. I'm indulging in the last of the goodies today and tomorrow, and then my plan starts.
I have been slow about getting my plan down in writing to make it real, but the hesitation has been good. I know that I want to stick to my old eating plan from when I was losing until I get to the bottom of my maintenance range. That means no flour, no alcohol, 30 g fibre per day, good (but reasonable) amount of protein, plenty water - with one day per week of total freedom. Anything goes on that day. My exercise plan has taken longer to shake out, but this morning I got a wonderful email from an online trainer from the UK whose programs I have used in the past. He has tons of free ones, all kettlebells or bodyweight. He sent out 2 30-day challenges for January, and I'm going to do either one of those, or use his (free) app for WOD 3x per week for strength. I will do the balanced life Pilates every day (some are very short, and I love them), and cardio 5-6 days per week. All of those are pretty well "ironed in" to my life already, except the strength work, which I had really let go. I like the kettlebell program, though, and had let it go for no good reason. The 30 day thing will help me get back at it, in a quick and easy way.
Mainly I want to get in as good condition as possible while I wait for the surgery I'll have some time hopefully soon. Clean up everything, keep strong, and get ready for a quick recovery. I know it will mean stopping for a while, but I think that having the indulgences from the past couple of weeks out of my system will be a good thing!
@KellyBgetsfit and @AshenMoon
Good job this week! I like the loss in inches, and getting after the holiday excesses - you've got this! Love the colouring chart for daily commitments too - thanks for posting it
@PlaneMonkey
What day was that??? Name it!2 -
@micki48 I am definitely down for 21 miles in January! Maybe as an added challenge, I will only count miles that I run, instead of just walking. I don't consider myself a runner, because I am so slow (more-so an enthusiastic shuffle), but I do love the calorie burn boost from said shuffle.
Yesterday was a good day for me. I was stressed about calories because I had made plans to get drinks with a friend. Pretty much every time I tell myself "just one drink" it turns into at least 2 drinks. I can be controlled about not ordering food when I am out, but the drinks add so much anyways. So I was kind of dreading it, and then the place we chose was all booked up online, so I threw out the idea of a virtual happy hour. It worked out great, because I had just 1 of my own sour beers that have been hanging in my fridge since October, we chatted for an hour, and they had to split. Before the happy hour, I did my regular lunch break walk, and a 45 min HIIT workout which felt great (been lax with any strength stuff since Xmas Eve). Then, after dinner, which I had earlier than usual, I had so much energy and was probably slightly tipsy from the beer (lol), that I went for another hour-long walk! It was pretty cold, totally lost feeling in the outer layer of my thighs haha. But felt good! And I passed 20k steps, which I love to do, because fitbit gives you another little celebration screen when you do double your goal.
Today should be similar. My boss and half my team are out today and tomorrow, so I don't even have to worry about the appearance of work activity haha. Excited to grocery shop tonight for tomorrow's festivities; just me and a friend at my apartment, and I am in charge of a fabulous cheeseboard. Great excuse to buy a new cutting board, too, since the only one I own is white and plastic. Moving up in the world.4 -
Hi all, I'm joining for January but thought I'd say hi now
I'm weighing in on a Monday and not properly 'starting' until Friday, as our NYE plans are always a bit carb-heavy.
Looking forward to the accountability.5 -

Welcome DD! once we open up the January chat thread in a day or two, everyone will introduce themselves (including you ) and we'll be off and running. NYE is certainly a moment for those carbs, so by Sunday when we officially get underway, all should be rolling well! You are welcome to keep posting here before then too.1 -

How is everyone celebrating the new year? Anyone doing anything fun?
I work until about 7 on NYE and also work New Year's Day. But we will order pizza and play games on NYE when I get home.4 -
Not doing too much but we too are getting a pizza and wings, and maybe some sushi. I'm most excited about the pizza though, it's "Mushroom Truffle" pizza and sounds fancy @MandiSaysHey5
-
@MandiSaysHey we plan to graze on Appetizers most of the evening and do our best to stay awake until midnight. We will probably go for a walk or snowmobile ride if there's enough snow overnight tonight but those activities in the cold tend to induce sleepiness!
Maybe pizza stuffed mushrooms are an option... All of the pizza talk is inspiring!3 -
Well, good all day and then the See's chocolates box got opened. I'll be so glad when this stuff is all gone. Back to healthy soup & keeping all the too tempting stuff out of the house!! I'm an early bird rather than a night owl and I'll greet the new year in the morning, with a cup of coffee.

Happy Wednesday! Holy cow, I didn't even realize it was NYE tomorrow!!! I have made no plans what so ever but I do have everything I need to make a Chinese dinner 😋 Or I could do an appetizer night.
We are getting snow, 6 inches so far, with up to 10 more possible tonight. The moon has seemed pretty bright so we could do a moon light snow shoe adventure for NYE!
Food has been good today. We are having pizza tonight with salad. I planned ahead and everything fits!. I like to double cut the pizza so it feels like I got to have a bunch of pieces.
Today my daughter and I found a new ballet on demand website to try called everyday ballet. It's more classical ballet classes and less fitness oriented than the other one I usually do. We moved all the furniture in the living room and invited my mother in law to join us. We were sweating 😅 and it was definitely more cardio based than the other one. We had a good time and are planning to do 3 days a week together. I will do a few more on my own.
@KellyBgetsfit I have beachbody until spring. I did try some meditation awhile ago but it wasn't Elise. I will have to check it out!5 -

This is such a wonderful recounting of a couple of days. Isn't it wonderful when the stuff you're worried about doesn't happen, things go better than you thought, you get lots of steps and other exercise, and you get cold but have a celebration screen anyhow. Then you get to skate on work, get a new cheese board, and see a friend. So good!
Other NYE plans sound so good too! Pizza, grazing, ballet, hanging out. Sounds good. I'm just going to be glad it is the last day of indulgence for a while! well, hopefully...
NYE will be the 31st anniversary of the first time I set foot on this wonderful piece of land where I live. I had just met the wild hermit who is now my husband a couple of days before, and he invited me for NYE. I walked up the half-mile hill to get to the house, which in those days was the little 2 room cabin he built in the early 70s, and we had a fantastic time - some cross-country skiing to tour the land, and then dinner and talking late into the night (but not till midnight!). I moved here a few months later and never looked back! We always hit the hay well before midnight and are like @eggfreak with a good NYD coffee the next morning, but it is still a special time. I remember the first thing I said after hiking up the hill and making into the cabin was "How do you ever leave?". It is beautiful here, and I'm glad I have never left.9 -

Yes! 21 miles for January. 5.25 miles a week. I think that's real doable. Three of my typical walks a week. If we love it, we can keep going through the whole of 2021.
@MandiSaysHey I am not sure, but I thought I might make a cheese fondue for fun. That pizza talk is tempting though. Like @PlaneMonkey, it will be quiet here, so hope I can stay awake. Actually, I am a late night person and midnight is my normal bedtime. I am hoping to make that earlier as the year progresses.2 -

Ohhhh @eggfreak I hear you about See's. Our best friends live in California and it is their customary Christmas present to us; a two pound box. I am not a big chocolate person, but even I love See's.
@jugar I love that story!!! How sweet. Happy Home anniversary.
So here's a funny thing. Today, we were doing a little research on the vaccine rollout. I found out that I qualify for the third round of vaccine, it's called 1C, if my BMI is 30 or above. I am currently at 31. So, I'm thinking for my general health, I do not want to lose too much weight in the early part of the year or else I will lose my "at risk" status as "obese." What's a girl to do? I want my vaccine. LOL. I am not going to sabotage myself, but it's ok if I don't move down too fast. Get that "freedom vaccine" in my arm and I'll be on my way down.3 -

@jugar definitely such a good feeling to have some things go really right! Especially this year (and we are almost out!!)
@eggfreak can you share some of your fave soups...? I am trying to be more a soup person! You get so many servings when you make a pot, it's great for meal prep, and often low calorie!
@MandiSaysHey my friend is coming over and I am making her do a 1000 piece puzzle with me (a scene of wine bottles) while we rewatch The Witcher on Netflix (Henry Cavill, usher us out of this year please!), and have lots of apps & cheese. Also mixing up a Blood Orange Prosecco Mule cocktail we found.
Today was another good day! I did 40 min of dance cardio (more Fitness Marshall) and it felt so good. I almost know all the dances in the videos I put together by now. And I did an extra night walk so I am once again over 20k steps. 2021, here I come!6 -

That sounds interesting! I love mushrooms on my pizza!2 -

Love your NYE story - a great anniversary to celebrate for both of you.
@Kali225 I love to share soup recipes (I could have called myself soupfreak) - in the January thread...fave standards are Garlicky lentil soup, Butternut squash soup w/ pears and Martha Stewarts vegetable & bean. I weigh everything, use the MFP recipe maker to enter and calculate ingredients, and then count out the cups made (before having any) to know just how many cup servings in the pot. I usually double or triple or tweak. The recipe calculator allows you to copy a recipe - so the next time I make a batch I copy it, rename it and tweak the amounts as needed - saves on the initial set up work. There is a recipes thread on F2F - maybe I'll post them there and let you know when they're up. That puzzle subject makes me laugh - good choice for NYE.
@micki48 fondue sounds yummy - I've got a vintage 60s one I inherited - have never tried it... I hear my mother, 80, say that she feels the vaccine should go to someone younger than herself....I remind her that you might not just die from Covid, you could be made seriously decrepit and have to live like that your remaining days...not a great thought, eh? It will take some stress off of me too when they both get it!
@conleywoods moonlit snowshoeing sounds like a beautiful and memorable NYE for your family
@MandiSaysHey boy, I'm getting talked into pizza reading this thread...and I have salad fixings too. I hope your retail xmas/returns cools off a bit.5 -
Today, I am looking over all my notes for 2020 and realize just how many things I accomplished this year. From learning to speak French, traveling more than expected, making crochet blankets, running more than 400 miles, hiking with friends, losing a few pounds... It is inspiring to see the results!
Coronavirus can stick it - I have had a good year overall and I hope you all have positives as well!9 -
Friday Weigh-In (1 day early)
PW: 187.1

Ah well. Not green to end the year but last weekend was certainly a hump of eating to get over. My LTD is still 45 lbs and that's exciting! Time to cheeseboard it up and say goodbye to this year.4 -
Happy New Year's Eve, everyone!
Only one weigh-in due today - @conleywoods will be the final 2020 weigher!
If anyone who is running late wants to add theirs, that will be great, but if not - they are going in as "excused" and then in January, let's have a resolution to always weigh in on time? Doesn't matter if it isn't the greatest weight of the week, it all evens out eventually...
This is also a great time to let me know if you want to change weigh-in day. Thanks!3 -
I had a shower this morning, since I felt like I could move again. Today is looking better than yesterday, when I needed to lay on the floor for 10 minutes after brushing my teeth. That was a weird experience. -_-
I dunno what the heck but this migraine is the worst I've had in ages.7 -

Happy New Year, Friends!
Thank you @AshenMoon for the accountability graphic. I will be using it - just need to decide what I want to keep track of the most!
I'm with you, @Steph1498, I also got a lot of good stuff out of 2020. Looking forward to 2021, though!
@Terytha - hang in there! The ghastly migraine will pass. I got a cruel introduction to this malevolent malaise early on this year, so I do feel for you. Sending you healing vibes.
So we're going to have an early supper tonight (sweet and sour chicken with bulgar wheat) before going on a lovely new year's eve conference call with the family. Although strictly speaking, our niece in New Zealand is already in 2021!
We will toast the New Year with prosecco, and munch on something savoury, warm and naughty 😉
Happy New Year to you all ❤8 -
