HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. The total will be by month, and cumulative - so you can really rack them up and get to your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username
Weigh In Day
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
LTD (Loss to Date): your TOTAL loss since your highest weight ever (optional)
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captains here on your team chat page. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are travelling, sick, or just needing some time off. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions and weigh in if you want to, but your weigh-ins will not be counted on the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! After hitting your goal, you need support to stay there, and you can help your teammates join you. You continue to weigh in every week, and if you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Welcome to December!
This is our home for the month, where all of our triumphs and challenges take place. Please introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. A good focus on the small every day stuff will get you where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @micki48. I live in rural Québec, about 85 miles east of Montreal, and I'm a retired university professor of music. I haven't retired from being a musician, but these days the performance opportunities are zero! My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed on quite a lot while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise, and lost 40 pounds. I have been in a good zone for 8 years now, always refining and figuring out the things that work best, and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and others who are working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
Let the introductions roll!2 -

OK! All the announcements and opening info is posted, time to get down to work!
@YinxFed has gotten us off to a great start. Can everyone match her? Lose one half pound this week at the least. That should be doable for everyone, so get ready and make it happen! If you lose more, so much the better, but I am sure we can get .5 losses across the board. I know, that is well within the "fluctuation range" so it might not always work out on your weigh-in day, so maybe aim a bit higher
What changes will you make to make your 1st weigh-in of December green?2 -
This week's Challenge is UP! And I hope it will help - you'll pick 2 magic numbers to track all week, and post every day about how they are going. You can change during the week if you need to - as long as you track 2 things every day. Check it out!

Way to go @MandiSaysHey, @happimess01 for reaching those milestone goals!!!! Hurray for you!👏🏼🎉. Keep up the great work.
Hi! I’m Michele. Co-captain with @jugar. Unlike her, I am not at goal. I am still working to get where I want to be and have 30ish pounds to go. I know what a daily struggle it is to make the right choices, stay motivated, get exercise, drink water, etc. I see you because I am you. My weight loss struggle has always been part of me. In HS, I thought I was fat. (I wasn’t) I played sports and didn’t have a tiny waist. Early in my 20s I went to Weight Watchers and made it to goal. Then had kids, gained weight,, went back to WW and got to goal again losing 50 pounds. But life has a way of getting busy and I put me last. I bounced up and down gaining some and losing some but never keeping it off for good or establishing a care program that focused on me.
My frequent tipping point was reaching the weight (and then some later) I was when I delivered my son. It was the heaviest I had ever been and I didn’t like the way I felt being there.
Now my kids are grown (32 & 29), I’ve officially made it to menopause this month, and I am still fighting this battle.
Being part of Waistaways has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. It has all the pieces I loved and needed about WW without the cost, getting to meetings or points. I love that everyone does what works for them and shares that to help others searching for the right fit. The greatest thing I’ve learned is not to give up even when I could have easily walked away. “Quitting” isn’t part of this for me because it’s forever. Not a diet a way of life. Not looking for perfection (god knows there’s none of that) just progress.
My progress this whole year has been to not give up on this journey and to have pretty much remained the same weight all year. That’s definitely disappointing, but considering a pandemic, menopause, and being in my house so much, I’m going to claim that as a win.
I’m currently trying to get my head right and back in the game. My Fitbit died last week, so a new one has given me some life. It tells me to move when I sit too long. Lol
December is always a challenging month. I love to bake and food is comfort and love around here. I’m not setting any crazy goals given all that. Hoping to stay where I am or maybe lose a little. Most importantly, I will make good choices as often as I can. If I mess up snacking. I will forgive myself and move on and try again.
I’m sure that’s more of an introduction than you need, but just thought I’d share my weight loss journey.
I also record steps and results for our team step group. If you are interested, let me know and tell me your day goal. Mine is 9,000 steps a day.
Well, my new Fitbit just buzzed me to move. Talk to you later.4 -
Hi everyone, welcome to new members
Here is my introduction:I'm Masoumeh, 33 years old, married & no kid, machine-learning engineer, living in the Netherlands. I gained around 18 kg during the past 3 years and most of my life I was around 48-54 kg, so this weight gain changed lots of things in my life and I felt I don't know myself anymore. Since Jan2020 I started reducing my added sugar intake, without calorie counting and excercise. I lost 2.9 kg in 9 months. From Oct2020 I joined to this team and lost 3.4kg, and was able to increase my excercise hours from 8hr/month to 36hr/month. At the moment I do not feel any rush to lose the weight immediately, but I would like to have a consistent healthy diet and exercise regularly, which can lead to the weight loss.
For December these are my goals:
- exercise 7hr per week
- 1200 to 1350 calorie per day
- daily food log
- no added sugar6 -
@jugar
PW 62.5kg
CW 62.4kg
LTD 6.4kg
I was a little bit desperate this week so it did not excercise till yesterday and ate way more than my goal calories for most of days, but from yesterday I decided again to get back on track and started to excercise and log eat in calorie range. For the last week the only rule that did not break was no added sugar.5 -
The Green Challenge Percentage of people who lost weight this week. No matter how small the loss the weights are recorded in green. Remember that even if your team doesn’t rank the highest in weight loss for the week you can still be the Green Percentage winner by having the most losses in your team! So keep it up!!3

@micki48 My steps for the week:
Sun 11/22 8,400
Mon 3,400
Tues 5,250
Wed 4,100
Thurs 5,600
Fri 4,440
Sat 5,500
Sun 8,000 (it should be at least 8,000 - if it's higher, I'll add it to tomorrow)
Pretty feeble week, I know. The weather didn't help. My daily goal is still 8,000. Let's see how December goes.

Hi all, and welcome to the new members! Sylvia, 51, in Massachusetts, single, no kids, office job and caring for & living with my 91 yr old dad and providing tech support for my 80 yr old mum. I'm fairly active, love to be outdoors and love to cook. I joined in January and find a lot of good ideas, motivation and encouragement in this group. I had hit a high in January '20 of 194 or so and somehow found the determination and focus to weigh and log for many months getting very near to my goal by July - since then my determination and focus has wobbled but managing to stay in the 140s so far. The holidays might give me some trouble but I'll be looking to make a good final show when I hit my year anniversary of saying 'the time is now' in January. My goal now is to be this same weight if not a few pounds less, in the following year. and so on, and so on.6

Hi eveyone. I'm Mandi. I am in my 30s, live outside of Chicago, single mom to my 10yo son, and I work in retail management. I have struggled with food and weight all my life, being an emotional eater. And I hit my highest weight ever when my son was in preschool. I was a young single mom with poor cooking skills living with roommates and working a varying schedule and it just became so easy to eat out or eat junk. Plus eating my feelings all the time.
I lost almost 50 lbs in 2015 and then gained most of it back over the next few years. Earlier this year I recommitted to getting healthy because I want to be healthy for my son and I just want to feel better. I suffered from chronic migraines and heartburn for years. I haven't had heartburn in 6 months and my headaches are much less frequent.
I have lost over 50 lbs since my highest weight ever and over 40 lbs since my most recent starting weight in July.
My December goals:
- 10k steps on days I work, 6k steps on days I'm off
- Under calorie goal every day (excluding Christmas and birthday)
- Indulge in my fav holiday treats without binging7 -
@micki48 My steps for November 29
17,473
I’m Keri, 51, Mom to 3 my youngest is 16. I’m a Ma to 3 also. 😊 I’m a housewife, and my Mom lives with us also. Never a full moment. Haha
My goals are to enjoy Christmas and all the goodies, but not to over eat. It’s a delicate balance!
Cheers my friends!2 -
I always love the new month intros. December is always a tricky one, but if we can really dig in this week and next week, starting the month with a good solid loss, it will be so much easier to sail through the rest! So lose a pound for the team! Or a half a pound. Let's see if we can hang on to our strong showing for November (in spite of a lackluster final week) - keep green, and then if there is a red week or 2 at the end, we're ok.
As you all know, one of my favourite jobs here is to remind (nag) everyone about their weigh-in day. For you new folks, when you weigh in (and also when your steps or exercise are counted), your post is marked "insightful". That just means we have put it into the spreadsheet! It's probably best if everyone else avoids that button. Everyone will have to settle for "inspiring"
Step team + Exercise team! If you want to log your daily steps, you are not limited to steps! Please also log your intentional exercise, and I will translate that into an equivalent number of steps. I rarely get all my 10,000 steps from walking/step counting. But I do 45 minutes on the exercise bike at 13-14 mph for 5400 steps equivalent, or 20 minutes of yoga or pilates for 2000 steps, etc. So please join the step/exercise team even if you don't get all your exercise from steps. It is fun to see how far we all go in a week. Here's the chart I base the equivalencies on, if you're interested -
https://www.arhs-nc.org/live-healthy/data/StepConversionChart.pdf
I'm usually a bit more conservative than the chart, but if you are really going full out, sweating like a crazy person, and working super hard - say so and I'll up your numbers!
Heads up for Monday weigh-ins:

Welcome indeed! Since you are a Monday weigh-in, you get the jump in at the deep end treatment. If you know your weight from LAST Monday, I could put that in for your starting weight so you have a week between weigh-ins, but if not - no worries. It will all go along normally from tomorrow on.
Tell us about yourself, and ask any questions you might have!2 -

Gaining and losing the same pound is the name of the current game.
I wanted to come back and announce a different success, but I have fallen short. I'm only at 49,000 words.
Detailed descriptions of rocks might be necessary here.7 -
Happy almost-December, Waist-Aways
I'm Kay, 26, living in the Boston suburbs, and working for a finance firm downtown (been remote working since March, planned through next April at least). I realistically never had a great relationship with food, but I was an active kid/teen, so it didn't catch up to me until college, when I put on the freshman 15 and then some. I really started the health journey I am on now after graduating college and moving out/first real job, which was Jan 2018. I struggle with binge eating and especially on the weekends. I do love to cook and meal prep but the allure of snacks and delivery food is my downfall. Workout-wise, I always get my fitbit step goal, I do almost-daily yoga, and I like home workouts in the HIIT, strength, and stretching varieties. Somewhat getting back into running as well, although I do not take my pace seriously at all.
December goals!
1. Have a loss - Oct was great for me, and Nov was pretty flat/very uninspired
2. If I can reach my goal of 183 lbs, that will be the 50 lbs lost mark.
3. Try positive affirmations in the morning
4. Be more proactive with my workouts, i.e. get things done earlier in the day so it also serves as motivation
5. Tone down the meals out, stop planning dinners through Thurs/Fri, leaving the fridge empty (and dangerous) over the weekends
6. Most importantly, don't overcorrect and restrict from the Nov disappointment, but try not to see each day as a challenge - need a longer-term focus, to move beyond thinking of the week as 7 days and once I have my weigh-in, I can just lose my mind.5 -
Hi all! Been busy decorating my house for Christmas all day. I know I've been late getting the weekly steps up, but I am going to try real hard to be better at it. I will need you all to get your steps in asap and looking ahead get those steps in by Sunday afternoon. It is easiest for me to wrap them all up on Sunday, as I have little time during the week because I have childcare duties with my granddaughter. So help me out and get those numbers in on Sunday pretty please. That said, I am looking for steps for the following folks:
@jugar 28th
@jguldi11 all week
@YinxFed 27th, 28th
@eggfreak all week
@elle_runs all week (are you still doing steps?)
Please have your steps in by tomorrow. I will be doing the step wrap up later tomorrow.
@jugar I think you may have missed the exercise steps of KellyBs post. She is at the end of the November thread.
December step challenge...

Who else is in?
I was able to hit my 9,000 step goal today. Yay! I need to drink some more water. Haven't logged, but I'm going to go fill that in when I'm done here. I really need to get out for a walk tomorrow.
This is something we did way way back when I started, but it could be motivating to do it again if you want.
Successful Sunday - What went really well for you this week? Can be non MFP too. Anything you feel you should get a round of applause for and react to those successes of others.
Motivation Monday - Post a meme or quote that motivates you. React to those posted if they speak to you.
Talk it out Tuesday - Need to vent about something? Got a challenging situation coming up? Looking for suggestions on how to handle it? Reply with hugs or suggestions.
Why Wednesday - Why are you here in MFP/Waistaways working on this healthy weight loss journey? Report Non Scale Victories (NSVs) for the past week. Cheer the team on.
Thirsty Thursday - How's your water intake going today? This week? How do you add water to your day? Tricks?
Fitness Friday - What exercise do you do? How is it going? Do you see an improvement in what you are able to do?
Silly Saturday - Post a funny meme or quote. Have fun reacting to your teammates humor!
For me, my success this Sunday was reaching my 9k step goal. Baby steps. Hopefully I'll have more success to report next week.

Wow! I can't believe December is just around the corner. December is kind of a milestone month for me. It's my one year anniversary for having my gallbladder out. I found this group and started chatting with you guys before officially starting in January. I also am celebrating 1 year of consistent working out!!!
My name is Kristi and I'm 38. I'm married and have 3 kids and 3 dogs. I work 4 days a week as an occupational therapist at a preschool center. My highest weight was 255 and I am down about 40lbs. I have been working on my weight for over a year and a half. I like to make changes that work for the whole family. I feel that I am much more successful when we do it together. It has been a slow process but some of the changes that I'm really proud of are: no more juice or pop, we make one dinner everyone eats, portions are smaller, we prefer leaner cuts of meat, more fruits and veggies and we are active together. I don't really have a goal weight but I do have a goal size. I made a photocopy of my measuring tape. When my waist shrinks, I will trim off a bit of the measuring tape until I reach my goal.
Goals for December
1. Keep working to balance my macros and eat more protein. Trying for 40-40-20 It's taking more planning and time to get right.
2. Lift heavy weights 3 times a week.
3. Do 2-3 ballet workouts a week. My hip is driving me crazy since I took a few weeks off of ballet.
4. Stay in my calorie budget.
This is a great month for me to focus on these things since I will have 2 weeks off for Christmas break.5 -
Hi friends
I am a 38y old busy mom, youngest is 2.5 and keeping me busy. I live in the UK. I'm also a student working towards my hopefully second career in mental health (very stressful). I've been overweight my whole adult life and battled weight loss up and down. This time hopefully for good. I've been with waistaway before and lost some weight, then maintained for a year until lockdown . Sadly gained back half my loss . So for this round, I aim to lose sustainably, still enjoy my favourite foods (I have a very sweet tooth) but see the scale go down over time.
Welcome to all new members . Wishing you all a great journey with this awesome group.5 -

Motivation Monday!
I had a conversation with an amazing jazz pianist from Los Angeles one night after a concert. He had performed with a very difficult diva (understatement of the decade) and been obliged to provide all of the arrangements, direct the musicians she had hired, pull everything together in 2 days, and make said diva look amazing. No one hearing that concert would ever have known how difficult and rushed the preparation had been, how little the diva liked to rehearse, but how much she needed everything to go the way she thought it should. The concert was fabulous, and yes, that diva can sing like a goddess. After the concert, I told the pianist just how blown away I was at his performance, professionalism, and calm leadership. He was beautiful and you could tell that everyone on that stage was giving their all for him. All he said was "You do the best you can." And I said "Every. Day." We both shared huge smiles at that - he knew how hard my job was at that time as the chair of the department where the diva was one of my most aggravating faculty members (among several thorny ones!), and we had a moment. Ever since then, I hear his voice reminding me to DO (not be) the best I can every day.
Monday. Let's do this!9 -

Came this close to saying well it's still only Nov 30th - I can restart on the 1st... Then I read @jugar 's post... " Do your best every day" and I know my best isn't to say screw it for one more day... So I will do my best today...
The 4 day weekend was pretty much a free for all, I did my exercise and such, but eating was not good at all...
I think I am going to take a break from weighing myself in December... I will still be here to post though...
My goals for December:
3 strength training days a week
2 Yoga days a week
Morning work outs 5 times per week
Be back under 160 at the end of the month
