    From the Post:

Vaccinated individuals in the United States and elsewhere may need booster shots and annual inoculations to maintain protection against covid-19 and emerging coronavirus variants, according to a White House scientific adviser and the CEO of Pfizer, which helped develop one of the most effective vaccines.

A growing consensus among scientists and public health experts on the need for additional injections could have serious implications for the equitable distribution of vaccine doses worldwide.

President Biden’s chief science officer for the pandemic response, David Kessler, told a House subcommittee hearing Thursday that the United States should plan for booster shots in the future. In remarks released Thursday from an event held earlier this month, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said that a “likely scenario” included the need for a third vaccine dose six to 12 months after inoculation, after which “there will be an annual revaccination.”

I had Moderna. They’ll probably say boosters are necessary too. I’m willing but supply could be a problem.

We’re back on Sanibel after six days at my sister’s house. I’m looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Yesterday totally go away from me. After I fed the colonies, I went to the vet to pick up Lola. When I got home I dealt with some urgent work emails (yes, it was Saturday). Lola seemed totally off so I panicked and called the vet and ended up going back. She spent the night in the "big cage" in the laundry room. She seems better today than yesterday and overnight she ate and used the litter box. Still not normal though. I guess we'll wait a little longer before panicking and heading to the pet ER. The primary reason I'd do that is probably as a back door into internal medicine.

Today I'm trying to get some more work done between spells of spending time with her.

What was she at the vet for? Maybe she was just stressed by the trip. Hopefully she’s getting back to normal today.

She was there for an exam but they cleaned out her ears and put in some medication. She's had problems with ear cleanings before and her balance. Only the vet is allowed to touch her ears and I'm assured that's who treated her. I'll take my kindle downstairs in a little while and spend more time with her. See how she's reacting.

    It's certainly not over:

Maryland reports 1,169 COVID cases and 17 more deaths as Baltimore continues to lead in per capita case rate

Trump won nine of the 10 states where the most residents said they would probably or definitely not get the vaccine. (He did not win Georgia, which is among those states.)

We just got the bad news our second AC unit is failing and beyond repair. The first unit was replaced in March and took a chance we’d get another year out of the old unit. It’s 15 years old, parts are no longer available and the bedroom is 80 degrees. Plus we had termite treatment right after the first AC replacement. Expensive season but all repairs were necessary. We told the company to order a new unit and they install it within a week.

Wow! You're not in a good locale for a broken AC that's for sure! Here's hoping they move quickly!

Woke up to tropical downpour this morning. We get heavy rains but it typically lasts a short time. Today was about half an hour. We may get more later but that’s okay. It’s been really dry. I’ll time some errands later between showers. How is Lola today?

Lola seems to be improving. I finally brought her upstairs today and she's been up and down the stairs twice which we're pretty sure she couldn't have done Saturday. She's not speaking to me though.

I lost a pound and a half last week although I'm not sure how. I'm having trouble getting back on track. Pure stress and exhaustion.. My "to do" list is mind boggling.

We just got home after 5 days with DH’s family. It was fun to see them, especially the little kiddos, but it’s nice to be back home!

Sounds like you need to pure that list. Figure out which things are essential and do those tasks. See if you can delegate any items to DH or co-workers. And somethings may not need to be done at all. People ask for things they could do themselves. Practice saying I wish I could help you out but I’m totally slammed myself. I’ll have to say no. If it’s tat important, they’ll figure out another way to get it done.
Pam, welcome back. We missed you. Glad you had a good time.

I dropped into Jiffy Lube this morning. I was the only one in the waiting room. Someone came in and sat down but I was engrossed in my kindle and didn't look up. I heard the employee at the customer service window say "where's your mask?". I looked up and saw that the gentleman who'd sat down had a cup of coffee but no mask. He was so embarrassed. He jumped up, said "it's in my car" and then suddenly realized he couldn't get to his car. The employee offered him one or said he could go outside and drink his coffee. He took the mask. I''m so glad I live in a state where that little tableau would go the way it did. The fact that that's not the way it goes everywhere STILL blows my mind.

I took my sister’s car in for an oil change last week. She’s going through cancer treatments so car maintenance was top of her or BIL’s list. It was a oval outfit. I drove into the bay and started to get out of my car. They stopped me and said they were asking customers to stay in their cars. I was fine with that. I had a book which I read inside the car. Their waiting room looked tiny so I could see why they asked people to stay in the car.

Interesting. I certainly could have waited in the car but they've never done that. I was in the same Jiffy Lube last March, very early on in all this. Thought at the time I'd better get in and get it done.

Most doctors here have been seeing patients in the office for months now. Vets are starting to open up. Mine hasn't yet. Actually I think vets made some really strange business decisions during this. I've tried to talk to the owner of the hospital where I go but she's not listening. Most grocery stores have taken up the one way arrows they had in the aisles. I still don't want to be there during prime time and I'm keeping one of my deliveries so that when I go to the store I don't need any basics and I can get in and out pretty quickly.

I find it really annoying when I see someone wearing a mask but not having it cover their nose. I don’t say anything to them because I don’t wait to be in the middle of a conflict. I distance myself from someone like that. But I’m amazed they don’t keep the nose covered. There’s been enough coverage about the need to cover the nose. They care enough to wear a mask but not to wear it properly???

Helene, I agree with you about people who don’t wear their masks properly. While we were in Houston, I saw a lot more people who either didn’t wear masks at all, or only covered their mouths with them. And then there were those who used them as a chin strap. Why bother! It seemed to me that people were a lot more relaxed about masks there than what I see locally. Many of the stores did not have signs posted requiring masks, while here in my area, most still do. Compliance seems better here to me.

Sanibel has signs posted on all business or government buildings saying that masks are required at all indoor facilities. A couple of times, I forgot my mask in the car. Seeing the sign sent me back to the car to get it. I appreciated the reminder. Off island, most people are still wearing masks but not as in such high numbers as on the island.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone here tell those people to fix their masks. They do. It's usually an employee of the establishment telling them that.

Helene - I enlisted a volunteer to help me with something that should free up a bunch of hours for me. I heard your "voice" in my head. LOL!

Congrats. Enjoy the time you regained. But keep asking people to step up and help. Great job.
