I just searched Facebook and found Jean’s page and from there I found and contacted one of her nieces to ask if she’s ok. I hope she will respond and not think I’m some kind of scammer. I explained how we “met” and know each other, so hopefully that will let her know I’m legit. I’ll let y’all know as soon as, or if, I hear back from her.

I hope Jean’s niece gets back to you and that Jean is okay. If she replies, maybe you can Friend her so we can stay in contact if we need to check on Jean in the future.

Looks like Maryland may finally get rid of its "state song":

‘Enough is enough’: Maryland votes to repeal state song, a Confederate call to arms; bill goes to Gov. Hogan

Maryland lawmakers gave final passage Monday to repeal the state song, a Civil War-era call to arms for the Confederacy against “Northern scum” that refers to President Abraham Lincoln as a despot.

The vote by Maryland’s House of Delegates comes after decades of debate over the song titled “Maryland, My Maryland.” It sends the measure to Republican Gov. Larry Hogan.

The governor’s spokesman, Michael Ricci, declined to say whether Hogan would sign the bill, because it has not been formally presented to him, but he noted the governor has said he doesn’t like the song.

The song, set to the traditional seasonal tune of “O, Tannenbaum,” was written as a poem in 1861 by James Ryder Randall. It was adopted as the state song in 1939. Maryland lawmakers have tried to replace it since 1974.

Last year’s nationwide protests against racial injustice and police brutality after the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and other police-involved deaths helped to strengthen resolve to finally repeal “Maryland, My Maryland” as the state song.

Previous attempts to change it have stalled over disagreements about finding a replacement. This time, sponsors avoided that debate by repealing it without a replacement. (DUH!!! my note)

I answered your email but forgot to comment on Jean’s age. I think she’s late 70s or maybe 80.

I went back to re-read some of Jean’s posts. On February 8th, she posted about a good cardiology appointment. And she mentioned she was cleared for possible knee surgery. She wasn’t sure she wanted it. Maybe she decided to get the surgery and that’s why she’s been MIA. I hope that’s why she’s not posting and will be back soon.

I am getting started on the catch up doctor visits.

I saw internal medicine today. I haven't actually laid eyes on the doctor in years. I see the nurse practitioner. Who pretty much does what I tell her to do.

Heh, I figure I'm in Baltimore with some of the best care in the world. If anything's wrong with me I'll find the best of the best and talk my way into their office. What I need from the "primary care provider" office is pretty basic.

I always give her a hard time about the truly beyond stupid Medicare "wellness" questionnaire. Parts of it I just flatly refuse to participate in. Draw a clock face? I think not.

It doesn't help that apparently I have better records than they do. They didn't seem to have my lab results from last spring so when I got home I faxed them to them. LOL!

That’s not a lot of comfort that your records are more complete than your doctors. DH usually brings a hard copy of his latest labs with him. He does it so he can have a discussion with the doctor about his results. Yesterday was his second shot. So far, he has no side effects.

I’ve been watching the Chauvin trial. Much of the testimony has been gut wrenching. The prosecution witnesses with one exception have been very good. They are well spoken and provide a more complete picture of what happened prior to the police being called.

Horribly busy day today. Some days I feel like the old Mkey commercials. Remember "Mikey'll eat it". Some days I feel like everyone's just "oh, Maryanne will do it". If I died tomorrow they'd all go on. I'm not that important for heaven's sake!

I went to an ATM today and went out of my way to drive through a grocery store parking lot -thinking to myself "see you here in 6 days or so LOL!"

    Tell me about it!

Hopefully your DH escaped with nothing! I can't believe mine did - he always gets side effects.

I read an article about how messed up some of the Walgreen's process has been so I guess we really lucked out in a lot of ways!

It’s 3 days since his shot and he didn’t even get a sore arm. I hope I’m lucky like that.

I just pulled up something I haven't used in over a year. My grocery shopping spreadsheet! I need to update it, probably, if I'm going to keep doing at least one online order a week. Which I think I will do at least until DH's garden starts producing. The store I order from that's farthest away, which I'd never drive to on a weekly basis, has the best cherry tomatoes by far! I figure I can also order heavy stuff like big bags of cat food for the colonies which I then won't have to haul myself. I should be able to find enough other stuff to meet one store's minimum order a week. It was just hard to keep three of them going!

States that have enacted or advanced bills that would make it harder to vote:

Darkest color - enacted; medium color - advanced; light color - introduced (but I guess that could mean by anyone and not necessarily with any chance to pass)

I’m pleased to see MA isn’t on the list. I live in one of the most liberal states. Both senators and all our representatives are Democrats. Governor Baker is a Republican but he’s a good guy. He’s rated the most popular governor in the US. I can’t see support from any of our state or national politicians supporters any legislation that limited the right to vote. I’m proud to live in a state like that.

I wish Texas was more progressive. Unfortunately all branches of our state government are majority republican, so very regressive policies are being pushed in this year’s session. There are several very restrictive abortion bills being pushed as well. Redistributing is also on the agenda, and the way the republican majority is drawing up the districts, they will be holding onto power for many years to come. It’s totally rigged in their favor, sadly.

That's funny that you have a Republican governor. So do we. We made a real mistake choosing our candidate in the last election. Our governor wasn't doing too badly until the vaccination phase. He's failed on that miserably and snaps at anyone who questions him. I can only assume his presidential aspirations have died.

Want to hear the punchline to the great 2020 diet root beer hunt? Telling one on myself here...

Over my birthday weekend I decided to treat myself and break out a 4-pack of my "beloved" Stewart's diet root beer.

Guess what? I've been drinking A&W so long I now like it a lot better.

That’s funny hat your root beer taste has changed without you realizing it. The best diet root beer I’ve ever had is sold at Culver’s, a Wisconsin burg chain. It’s their own brand. You can only get it at their restaurants. They expanded into FL about five years ago. We found one off I 95 in Savannah Georgia that we stop at on our drive north. I’ll have to check their website to see if they expanded any further north.

I was a devoted Dr Pepper fan for most of my youth and adulthood, but when I started gaining weight I decided to switch to the diet version. I absolutely hated Diet Dr Pepper! I had never liked Coca Cola, so I decided to try their diet version and much to my surprise, I really liked it. I found their diet product that was sweetened with Splenda and really loved it, but unfortunately they’ve stopped making it. Now I drink Coke Zero and like it pretty well. At least it’s readily available and if it’s not I can tolerate the regular diet version. But don’t try to tell me that Diet Pepsi tastes just the same, because it DOES not! 😂

My go to soda is Diet Coke. Like Pam, I hate any form of Pepsi. I’ve ordered Diet Coke in restaurants and the server would ask if Pepsi was okay. I always say no. I’ll take water if they only have a Pepsi. As I’ve said I love Culver’s it root beer but I can only get it in FL.
