Public discussion of “herd immunity” often treats it like an on-off switch.

As in: When the U.S. reaches herd immunity, the crisis will be over. Until then, the country has little immunity from Covid-19.

    But that’s not right.

Herd immunity is more like a light dimmer than an on-off switch.

The more people develop immunity — either from having been infected or from being vaccinated — the less easily the virus will spread.

    Talk about tone deaf:

Republicans Mock Rescue Plan While Pushing A Tax Cut For The Richest

Even during a pandemic with high unemployment, Republicans are still mad about the estate tax.

I finished off my EB Southwest this morning. I'm making a concerted effort to find some for the freezer. I have a food delivery coming this afternoon from a store instacart shops and will deliver here that claims to have. We shall see.....

I decided to work on one of the most straight forward items on my "to do" list today. I'm so tired of questions with no clear answer I could scream! After 40 years you'd think I'd be used to it but apparently not.

Jack (our oldest) sat on my lap for 3 hours last evening. I hope he's feeling okay. He never stays longer than 15 or 20 minutes. I finally was forced to get up for a bathroom break or we might still be there. LOL! And Indy is suddenly on the top of the cat tree at the top of the stairs. When I met her she was living in a tree at one of the colonies. Maybe she thinks this is like her tree?

Maybe the Republicans are worried their anti Vaxer rich supporter I’ll get Covid and die before they can get their estate tax passed. Just a hunch. I went on the Publix website to try for an appointment. As usual, I got the waiting screen. It refreshes every 60 seconds and you hope the book it button lights up. My expectations were low since anyone connected to education is top priority. Imagine my surprise when the button lit up after 40 minutes on hold. All appointments in my county were gone so I tried my sister’s county where DH got his shot. I have one at 6:45 Tuesday and I’ll probably make the 100 mile ride alone. We have the AC guys coming that day for day 2 of air conditioner replacement. DH needs to be home for that. I don’t mind driving alone but part of the trip back will be after dark. With daylight savings time, the sun will set about 7:30. I should be able to make the first third of the drive before dark. That part is on state roads and I have to make several turns. The rest of the trip is on better roads and it’s a straight shot back to the interstate. I’m not crazy about nighttime driving but I’ll do whatever I have to for the vaccine. I’ll arrive about 15 minutes early in case they can take me sooner. They may not be as busy that late. If that works, I’ll have a little more time before the sun sets.

Helene - sounds like 6:45 pm? After dark isn't much fun for me anymore either. The eye doctors keep saying things like "the early stage of cataracts". I'm spoiled here because almost all the driving I do is on well lit roads. If I had to drive "up home" after dark I might have problems. But a huge YEAH!!! that you got an appointment!!!

I'm a little peeved that President Biden is "ordering" states to drop the vaccination eligibility age to cover all adults in just about 6 weeks when I still have older friends who are still desperately trying to get an appointment. I've been saying for weeks if our governor did that he'd be lynched. Why not open it up to younger people with serious medical conditions first? Like my best friend's ex.

It’s at the same pharmacy DH went to and the tech who checked him in said the pharmacy was open until 8 pm. I guess I’m lucky I didn’t get the last appointment of the day. At least I know the check in routine from watching DH check in. I’ll know exactly where to go so that might save me a few minutes.

Just got home after celebrating our 38th anniversary at a new restaurant that opened during the pandemic. I had the most tender steak I’ve ever eaten, along with a salad and baked sweet potato. We shared a chocolate mousse cake dessert and I am very full now. The restaurant was very nice, but a little noisier than II would have liked. They have a couple of patio areas but all off those were booked for private parties tonight so we ate indoors. I would have preferred to be outside bit since I’m vaccinated I wasn’t really worried about being indoors.

The IRS should be looking into this as should whatever state it was incorporated in. There are rules for 501 3 C and they should lose non profit status.

Happy anniversary Pam. Your celebration sounds lovely.

I missed out on a better vaccine location. The state website I registered with 6 weeks sent me an email to register for a shot. It was in Ft Myers and I think it’s a drive through. They sent the email after I logged off for the night. I tried the link this morning and all the appointments were gone. Not only that, they have no appointments for the rest of March. So I’ll keep the appointment I have and do the long drive.I have an audiobook to keep me company.

I know people who are searching and others who have gotten multiple "offers". One friend has done next to nothing and had an email from Hopkins that she won the lottery and here's your appointment date/time (and her only connection to Hopkins is routine ophthalmology visits). If TPTB can 't see that this system is a mess and needs to be cleaned up they are blind. Considering there are going to be booster shots and probably annual shots and then the next pandemic why don't we organize this NOW??????? And May 1 they are going to open it up to the world?

A couple first met at Fenway Park 54 years ago. Last week, they were vaccinated there.

After a perilous pandemic year, getting a coronavirus vaccination is a cathartic experience for many. But for one Boston couple, it evoked a different emotion: nostalgia.

Donna and Tom Wall, both 70, were vaccinated together at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. It’s the same place where the husband and wife met 54 years ago, and where they got engaged after Tom hid an engagement ring for Donna to find at the bottom of a tub of popcorn.

Little did they know when they first laid eyes on each other as 16-year-olds at Fenway Park that the stadium would be an auspicious touchstone in their relationship — and the spot where they would receive vaccinations, five decades later, amid a global pandemic.

Since so many people are working from home or jobless, take that extra hour immediately. Schedules are more flexible these days plus no commuting time needed. No need to lose that hour.

The trip to the Florida Keys with my SIL is back on. I booked my airfare today and now we are researching hotels. It’s an expensive area for lodgings. So far she has nixed every affordable, decent place I’ve found, so now the ball is in her court to find something. She thinks her adult son may be joining us on the trip, which would help with splitting expenses, but complicate the sleeping arrangements. He would be a nice buffer to have along, so I’m hoping he does come. He tends to make her behave better than she does when it’s just the two of us. We are going the first week of May.

Pam, I hope the trip details workout and that nephew comes long. Maybe you can find a condo or at least something with a bedroom and a sleeper sofa for nephew. Today is vaccination day for me. I’ll leave the island around 3 to make a 6:45 appointment. I’ll wait just long enough to make sure I don’t have a reaction. If I can get back on the old by 7, I’ll have about an hour of daylight driving. That will get me one third of the way home and get me on a better road for the rest of the drive.
The AC tech just arrived. He and an assistant are doing major replacement of parts of the AC system. That’s why DH can’t come with me to split the drive. I figure I should get back home round 9 tonight.

Best of luck with that drive!!! You'll feel so good though once it's done!

I have three SIL and have never even had a solo lunch with one of them let alone a trip (in fact two of them I haven't laid eyes on in probably 15 or 20 years). I can't really even picture it. You are a trouper!
