2021: Think Positively for a Better Year!

I haven't checked in for days. I've been busy getting ready for new furniture and new mattress and box springs....and not sleeping worrying about it.
I've been in hotels where the mattresses were great but at a greater distance from the ground. I guess that might be the vogue now as both the mattress and matching box springs I got added approximately 4+ inches to the height I have to conquer to get in bed. I have been so exhausted that last night I slept over 10 hours.
I had a $100 certificate from my favorite airline from doing a questionnaire, evaluation type things. It expires this April. I so want to get out of Dodge that I found a fabulous rate to Alaska in early May. Since I can be flexible on travel dates, I am going to Alaska for $392 roundtrip. My niece who has a certificate of refund from the cancelled Australia trip to use before April 2022 decided to use part of that refund to go to Alaska also. We have our vaccinations complete. All we need is a negative Covid test within 72 hours of the flight.0 -
Jean, I hope you enjoy your Alaska trip! We took an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The scenery is just spectacular everywhere you look. What areas will you be seeing?
I know what you mean about your new bed being taller. We bought a new mattress about 3 years ago and it actually is a little shorter than the one it replaced, which is better for me. At 5’2” it’s difficult for me to climb into a tall bed. When I had the broken ankle, it was especially hard on one foot, lol! I had to put my good foot on the wooden side rail of the bed and kind of launch myself onto the bed off my knee scooter. This was on the old, taller mattress. It was a very thick pillow top model. Our newer one now is a memory foam mattress that we bought on-line. We’ve been pleased with it, so far. I hope you will enjoy your new bed and sleep restfully on it.0 -
Jean - new bed sounds heavenly! You'll be well rested for that fun trip to Alaska!0

Supposedly I'm not all that much taller than the average American woman (probably 5 5 1/2 or so at this point) so why is it that whenever I'm in line anywhere I can see over everyone's heads, including most of the men? Sometimes I wonder things like that. LOL!
Connecticut mass vaccination site, really interesting: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/28/health/covid-vaccine-sites.html?action=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage0 -
Jean, a trip to Alaska sounds wonderful. I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Maybe you could get one of those steps they use for dogs to climb on the bed. I don’t know if the steps are big enough for a person but it’s worth a look. It could solve the problem of the higher mattress.0

They probably are or maybe just a step stool. I have friends who keep one in their van to help them get in.0 -
A retractable step would be perfect! The problem with steps next to the bed is that you trip over them in the night if you get up. Our traditional style bedroom suite came with 2 steps stools which we soon learned were a terrible tripping hazard. They have resided on the top shelf of our closet for many years now.0

I have steps for my cats to get on the bed. I put them at the end of the bed. Maybe you could put a step at a different spot around the bed than where you get up in the night?0

I tend to order from 3 stores every week. One has never taken Southwestern Egg Beaters off their "menu". So every week I select it. And every week it shows up on the final receipt with a big red "X". But today I got one! I'm going to be making eggs folks! Hip hip!0

I hadn’t seen the southwest style in at least a year. Maybe customers asked for it and they recently brought it back. Maybe they’ll bring back your favorite Florentine. I’d put a stool or step on the opposite side of the bed. That way, when you get out of bed at night, you won’t trip on it. And maybe you’ll find you don’t need one after you get used to the higher bed.0

Wouldn't that be wonderful but I'm doubting it.0 -
I’m not counting on it either but one can hope.0

Amazon came to my bed rescue. Out of so many available, I got this:

Apparently mr and mrs cheeto were secretly vaccinated in January. How many thousands of lives could have been saved if he'd been public with that?
Also apparently factual information on how sick he really was have been available and I missed it. We were right; he was a lot sicker than they let on. How many lives could have been saved if that had been public?
What's the opposite of my late mother's favorite saying "he/she will get his crown in heaven"?0 -

DH has a late afternoon medical appointment. From there, we’re driving to Okeechobee, 100 miles away. I went on the Publix vaccine site and managed to score him an appointment there. My sister lives in town so we’ll stay with her overnight and get his first shot in the morning. The website was hard. It took about six tries to get through it. The locations with vaccine appointments got further and further away. By the time his appointment was confirmed, even appointments in Okeechobee were gone. I would have had to travel to Jacksonville or Palm Beach. I quit and I’ll try again Wednesday or Friday when the window opens again. DH has several preexisting conditions and is older than me. I’m happy I got him scheduled. I gave blood the other day. They sent me an email saying they tested my blood and I don’t have any Covid antibodies. I take that to mean social distancing, masking and staying home have kept me safe. I’ll continue my behavior and try for the vaccine as soon as I can get it.0

God one! When I talk to friends on the phone the conversation inevitably comes around to "we just don't get it; who ARE these people; we never meet them in our lives (as far as we know)".0 -

The pharmacist at Walgreens told us 5 minutes.
I was just reading an article about how the mass vaccination sites aren't checking eligibility. I get that that's efficient BUT it certainly doesn't contribute to people feeling this is all unfair.0 -

I'm glad you were able to get your hubby in and that you'll keep trying.

Ours was a mass vaccination site and they did check eligibility. Also, when you signed up online, you had to indicate your age and underlying conditions and appointments were given based on the information provided. No proof was required, however, so if one chose to lie about having a qualifying underlying condition, you could definitely get away with it.
It’s amazing to me how much variability there is across the country in access to the vaccines. I feel very blessed that we were able to get ours relatively quickly.0 -

They checked DH’s eligibility. He had to show his license. Since it’s not FL, he had to provide 2 items with his name and FL address. We brought a water bill, a mortgage statement and our property tax bill. I put my name on a cancellation list but I didn’t get a call. I had tried to use the Publix website when it opened at 7 am. I had a screen that just said waiting. Meanwhile, you could see each county counting down what percentage of appointments were left. I finally got into the window after holding 40 minutes. A handful of appointments were left and I saw a message that those appointments were in the process of being booked by other people. So it was an exercise in futility. I can do the whole thing again Friday morning.
