2021: Think Positively for a Better Year!

BTW, while I was waiting for DH to get his shot, an older couple asked if I was waiting to pick up a prescription. I indicated I was waiting for DH to get the vaccine. The man leaned down and whispered that he didn’t plan to get it. I asked if he had heard the the Trumps got vaccinated in January but didn’t tell us. He seemed surprised but didn’t say anything. Hopefully I gave him something to think about.0

They checked DH’s eligibility. He had to show his license. Since it’s not FL, he had to provide 2 items with his name and FL address. We brought a water bill, a mortgage statement and our property tax bill. I put my name on a cancellation list but I didn’t get a call. I had tried to use the Publix website when it opened at 7 am. I had a screen that just said waiting. Meanwhile, you could see each county counting down what percentage of appointments were left. I finally got into the window after holding 40 minutes. A handful of appointments were left and I saw a message that those appointments were in the process of being booked by other people. So it was an exercise in futility. I can do the whole thing again Friday morning.
It's just nuts! Here's hoping for better luck on Friday!!!!
I haven't deleted my bookmarks. I'm hoping our second shot appointment goes without a hitch but just in case I want to have those bookmarks.0 -
Hopefully, now that the J&J vaccine is in the mix, appointments will become easier to get. I read yesterday that many local pharmacies are now getting the vaccine and may be an easier route to getting one.0

That should be something for everyone to think about who's hesitant.
And the governors who are throwing up their hands and saying "do whatever you want" should be impeached.
Apparently there is nothing anyone can do to make some people take this seriously. I mean, if 1/2 million dead Americans doesn't do it, what the heck will?
My boss thinks "therapeutics" will save him. First of all, I have no idea what he's reading that makes him think you can be healed with "therapeutics" but secondly how selfish to deliberately have your plan be to take up a hospital bed and scarce therapeutics.0 -

It's created quite the spat between Baltimore's mayor and Maryland's governor. The mayor thinks Baltimore should get priority since the vaccine is being made in Baltimore. The governor not so much and wasn't very polite about it.0 -
I was careful to speak politely and respectfully to the anti-Vaxer. He was very polite expressing his opinion to me and I wanted to mirror that back to him. I don’t think he knew about the secret vaccinations so I hope he’ll think about what that messages says. I ended with it was a case of do what I say, not what I do. I hope he changes his mind. He was wearing a mask which was positive. We still seeTrump/Pence yard signs, especially the more rural areas. The road to my sister’s house is very rural as is the town she lives in.0

I suspect the anti vaxxers are not a uniform group. There are probably (1) legitimate concern about the speed they were produced, (2) trump believers, (3) just plain nutcases, and others I'm not thinking of. We need to address as many as we can. No one will reach the nutcases but we might reach some of the others - good job!!!!!0 -
Now if DH could just get through to his brother and family.0

I'm doing an Optavia (medifast) day today. Been sticking to the plan pretty well this week.
On the treadmill, I'm finishing off the next to last My 600-lb life "where are they now" that I've never seen. Then I'll be ready to start season 7. I'm trying for 20 minutes a day at this point. My biggest problem with the treadmill is boredom!0 -
Self-Proclaimed Billionaire Trump Now Begging Small-Dollar Donors For Money
The lies Trump told at CPAC about the election and his record were not new, but his request for supporters to give money to his new political committee was a first.

This is funny. People making memes out of Ron Johnson's sort of wacky presentation:

Don't know if you'll be able to open this:
How to Reach People Who Are Wrong
In the post-Trump era, research suggests the best ways to win people over.

Research suggests that what wins people over is listening, asking questions and appealing to their values, not your own. Grant cites evidence for “complexifying” issues so they become less binary and more nuanced, enabling someone on the other side to acknowledge areas of ambivalence.0 -
Idiotic senators insisted on slowing down the inevitable passing of a widely popular bill by several means, starting with having the entire 600+ pages read aloud.

People like Greene and Johnson and Cotton are purposely charging at windmills not in hopes of toppling them, but rather in hopes of ensuring that the party base (and its media enablers) see them charging at the windmill.0 -
I hope voters who need the funds and unemployment help remember those who went out of their way to obstruct help. I’d vote for whoever runs against them. Shame on them. I hope they sat in chamber to hear the whole 600 pages.0

Tweet from CNN:
More than six hours into Senate clerks reading the just-introduced 628-page relief bill, they are on page 475. Ron Johnson, who forced the reading, is in chamber. If he were to leave, someone could ask for consent to dispense with the reading and he wouldn’t be there to object0 -
I’m glad he’s stuck there. The poor fellow who has to read 600 pages. Does anyone spell him or is he “it” from start to finish.

No Decorah eagles to watch this year. They built a new nest out of camera range and no one will move the cameras until the off seasons.0

Busy day running around. DH’s ENT had a cancellation so he took it. Only bad part was it was at 8 am and was a forty minute drive. I was up at 5:30 so we could leave by 6:45 since it was morning rush hour. We never scheduled early appointments but he wanted to get this done. The doctor was sick a few weeks ago when DH had his original appointment. From there, we drove 30 minutes south to a gluten free bakery. We don’t get down there much so DH stocks up whenever we can get there. He need lumber from Lowe’s and I squeezed in a much needed haircut. I stopped by my nail salon. I didn’t know if Amy’s business survived the lockdowns. I was relieved to find her open for business. I made an appointment with her for Monday. Publix was in the same shopping center so we picked up a few needed items and then headed home. We got homer at 4 so it was reminiscent of the days when I put in a workday.0

What a long but productive day!! The only thing wrong about where most of my doctors are is you really can't get there from here in rush hour so I feel for you!0 -

I was just making a list of appointments I want to make starting 2 weeks after my second shot. I want to be optimistic but keeping variants in mind there are appointments I want to get done including hair cut, bone density, hand doctor, dermatologist, vet.
I also hope we get back to doing cat shows. We're going to have a big issue there, though. My right hand at those things is struggling mightily financially - no working van at the moment, no p/t, no treatment for anything she might have injured in a fall in her house, no cataract surgery (she can't see at all after dark). No one can seem to get her to start contacting county agencies for help (or even to stop paying for 2 storage units).0 -

Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ decision to pull six books containing outdated and racist imagery incensed GOP lawmakers and Fox News personalities this week, with many falsely blaming the private company’s decision to stop the publication on Democrats and President Joe Biden.
With his video, McCarthy appeared to join in with the criticism. But critics pointed out that he read “Green Eggs and Ham” — which is not one of the books that have been pulled.
...
They did not ban Green Eggs and Ham

And I will *kitten* with a fox.
And I will showboat in a house.
And I will have ethics the size of a mouse.
And I will cry wolf here and there.

Even with rush hour, we arrived 15 minutes early. You never know if there will be an accident enroute so I was glad we allowed extra time. I’m normally a night owl and rarely go up to bed before midnight. I was falling asleep watching TV so I went to bed at 9:30. Between us, we have three medical appointments next week but they’re all in Ft Myers and none are that early. It should be a more relaxing week.0

All signs point to a justifiable optimism. And yet, I, for one, find myself continuing to wonder whether optimism (given what we've been through over the last year) is akin to Charlie Brown convincing himself that this time he really is going to kick the football before Lucy pulls it away.

I'm choosing to look at this as possibly just a window of normalcy. A time to get some things done. And not to get my hopes up too much. That article actually concludes on a fairly positive note.

I’m amazed at all the people who are incensed over the Dr. Seuss Foundation’s decision to stop publishing 6 of his works. They are pointing fingers and claiming it’s all part of cancel culture, but the reality is the foundation owns the rights to those books and has the right to stop publishing them for any reason. I think they are smart to voluntarily make this move because it’s likely only a matter of time before someone would be pointing out the racist and politically incorrect messages in them. By voluntarily removing them, the foundation is ahead of this and avoiding a PR problem. Although it seems to have created a different PR issue for them. Sometimes you just can’t win, I guess.
I’ve spent much of the last 2 days trying to nail down details for a trip with my SIL. I don’t really enjoy traveling with her but she has no one else to travel with, so every 2 years or so I bite the bullet and agree to go somewhere with her. She has always wanted to fly to Miami and rent a car then travel down to Key West. I happened across a travel deal for this exact itinerary that was very reasonable, so it looks like we will be doing it the first week in May. If her time off request is approved I’ll be booking the trip next week.0 -
Pam - you are a good SIL! (Better than me I confess!)0
