I JUST GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR DOSES 1 AND 2 AT A WALGREEN'S RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE. SO DID DH (THANKS TO ME).

Sorry for the caps but we're beyond excited. I've been checking and rechecking web sites.

Maryanne, that’s fantastic! I know you will feel so relieved to get that done. And it’s convenient, which is a huge bonus! How soon will you get dose #, and which vaccine is it?

    I can't believe how giddy I am. I'm not a giddy person.

Apparently the pharmacies are all doing Moderna. The second dose is scheduled 4 days after my 71st birthday in March.

I joke about things like haircuts but for me what's important are maybe seeing friends again, starting back up on fund raising events, and not having the constant worry as to what would happen to the cats if DH and I both died.

And it's a huge bonus that I might get this before my postponed doctors' appointments start back up. I read an op ed the other day about how we're going to find out the cost of all the postponed medical treatments. They are guessing the cost will continue for some years.

I always had terrible nails until I started doing the dipping powder manicure. It made my nails much longer and rarely chips. People assume I have acrylic nails but they’re my nature nails. I never liked the thought of gluing a fake nail to my nails. It seems like over time, it would damage the nail bed. Consider trying the dipping powder if you haven’t already tried them.

That woman sounded clueless. It’s all about her. Never mind there are folks worse off.

Maryanne, I forgot to mention I’m finding southwester Eggbeaters in the stores again. I hadn’t seen them in ages.

Oh, wow, so they still exist! My one store has them listed but they always come up not available when the shopper shops. Maybe one of these days I can look for a few things like that myself.

I’ve seen then in Publix and our independent market on the island. It’s fairly recent so maybe you’ll start to see them in MD.

Helene, I’ve been wearing dipping powder nails for several years now. Before the nail tech I went to used a plastic gel-type material on them, but I like the dipping powder much better.

I spent nearly 3 hours in the park today with some of my friends. The weather was a lovely 82 degrees, which was much nicer than the -2 degrees we had exactly 1 week ago. Texas weather is truly bipolar! The park was full of people playing and exercising and it was just really nice to be outside enjoying some sunshine.

I had a quiet day. I went to the blood mobile and donated a pint. They had brought the van over to the island so I signed up for an appointment. My sister called to say she and her husband got the vaccine today. So all my siblings have been able to get it. We’re still waiting for a call about an appointment.

We had our first shots. Turned out to be Pfizer. It was only the second day this drugstore had been doing it. Until now they've been going to nursing homes. Overall, very organized.

Maryanne, Yea!! Hopefully, you won’t have any side effects. So glad you were able to get yours.

They made our second appointment for 4 weeks even though it's Pfizer. Google seems to say that's okay.

Pharmacist told DH they are doing 40 patients/shots a day. One every 15 minutes for 10 hours. Pharmacist still has to fill prescriptions. They did add a pharmacy tech but didn't add anything to the tiny waiting area.

I waited 15 minutes but felt funny about just leaving. Wished I asked what i should do. I was sort of milling around hoping to see a tech unoccupied when the pharmacist caught my eye and said "if you feel okay, go ahead and go".

I know Moderna is working on a booster shot for one of the variants. Hopefully Pfizer is too. This whole vaccination effort is going to get really complicated as they open it up to more groups if they also have to be trying to do booster shots for the first groups.

Maryanne, at the site where we got our shots, we were given a small post it note with the time written on it when we could leave. We were instructed to leave the post it on the chair so the staff would know to clean the chair before someone else sat on it. Observers were posted all around the area watching to see if anyone seemed to be having a reaction, but if you felt ok you could just leave after your 15 minutes were up. There was a big digital clock at the front of the room, so it was easy to see when your time was up.

Great ideas! That would definitely improve on Walgreen's otherwise efficient procedures. I saw no evidence they were cleaning chairs.

Today's word from the 365 day word calendar is super apropos:

Apparatchik. A blindly devoted official, follower, or member of an organization (such as as political party).

We've got a congress and a bunch of state legislatures full of apparatchiks.

I just read a report that Pence still considers Trump a friend in spite of Trump almost getting him injured or killed. I guess Pence must have drunk an extra large dose of the Koolaide.

Maryanne, are you noticing any side effects from your vaccination? I had a sore arm after my first shot, but otherwise felt fine. I had the Moderna vaccine, but side effect reports seem to be similar with both.

I didn’t sleep well last night because we had thunderstorms all night long. They came in waves, so about the time I’d get to sleep after one came through, another one was starting. I think this is going to be a long day, lol!

And McConnell says he'd support him for president again. What are these people smoking?

No, I haven't had any side effects but then I don't usually. After Shingrix DH was sick; I wasn't.

He's had sore arm, headache, upset stomach and weird dream. Someone on the NS board also reported weird dreams. Probably coincidence.

When I was a kid, something like mumps would sweep through town. My sister would be super sick and I'd enjoy a vacation from school.

Of course I'm probably jinxing myself now for the second shot.

It's been 15 months since we last did fund raising at a cat show. Longer since we did a flea market. Last week was the one-year anniversary of the last time I was in a restaurant. Sunday will be a year since I went to the hairdresser. Next week will be the one-year anniversary of the last time I saw a client in person. At the end of March will be the one-year anniversary of the last time I was in a grocery store during the day (and I remember feeling very guilty for going in).

Your hair must be pretty long after a year of no haircuts. I got my hair cut as soon as the salons reopened. I was satisfied with the precautions they’ve taken. Everyone is masked, you need to make an appointment and wait outside until it is your turn. They socially distance the chairs so you’re not next to other customers. When they were closed, I cut my own bangs a few times because I can’t stand hair over my eyes. I got a cut in January just before we headed south. I’ll need a cut here in the near future so I’m not tempted to cut my bangs again.

Long and going silver! I'm looking forward to getting the colored ends cut off. I've already decided not to start coloring again. As my hairdresser predicted I'm totally silver and I'm going to let it that way. The woman whose colonies I feed is a recently retired hairdresser. I asked her who I should ask for if I switch to her shop and she gave me a name. I'll miss my long time hairdresser but I won't miss the drive. I HATE that drive.
