I've seen several glowing reports on Jamie Raskin's opening (proud of my fellow Marylander there).0

He was excellent, Maryanne. I’m watching again today and I’ve been impressed by each one of the speakers. They have shown some things I had not heard or read about before. Stacey Plaskett is impressive!0

I lost a half pound last week. 15 pounds to goal. I need to keep reminding myself how ludicrous it would be to not get there this year!
Yesterday was "packet day".
Today is Jenny Craig day (those aren't going to continue forever; their food may have nose dived faster than NS. I occasionally see some on ebay but mostly I'm not even tempted).
Tomorrow I've decided will be hodge podge day. I have a couple different things to try, most notably I want to try 1/2 packet of NS granola with some greek yogurt for breakfast and I want to try meatballs with marina sauce on zucchini noodles for dinner. I have both the NS and Medifast versions of the meatballs here. Very different looking packaging. NS is beef and MUCH smaller volume. Medifast is turkey - more volume/more calories.
We're supposed to get some precipitation today through Friday. I gave the colonies plenty of food this morning. I don't have a day again until Saturday.0 -

Snowed in here. One of our cities is experiencing large power outages and the interstate near one is closed from large semi-trucks sliding off it and over a hill. I didn't sleep well the night before so last night I slept 9 hours, even sleeping through phone calls. I still don't feel the greatest. I'm tired even when I sleep well.0
-
We just got notifications that we can get our second vaccination on Saturday at noon. We are experiencing bitter cold temperatures here, but we will still go. Unless the roads become impassable, nothing will stop us from going. DH does have a Jeep with 4 wheel drive, so even bad roads might not stop us, lol! The drive thru sites are closing due to the temperatures but we are scheduled at one of the indoor ones, so it should be ok. Besides the very cold temperatures, we also have snow predicted for Monday of up to 10 inches. Definitely not the mild winter weather we’ve had until now.0

Oh, wow, sorry about the weather and I'm really sorry you still don't feel the greatest! It's bad enough you have to suffer through winter without feeling bad!0 -

10 inches of snow???? Say what????
I was just thinking the other day that when I fed a colony every day I had 4 wheel drive. I really need to van for hauling inventory to shows but boy, when I become 100% responsible for these colonies, 4 wheel drive would be great!0 -

Did you see news coverage of Senators Cruz, Lee and Graham meeting with Trump lawyers to strategize defense? The JURORS are plotting the defense? Impartiality and an open mind are foreign concepts to those who blindly vote to acquit. The House managers were brilliant. It’s hard to believe Republicans can ignore the facts. How about those who were just elected and won’t run for six years? They can find their spines? Shame on them but we’ll be the ones paying the price for their cowardice.0

Friends and I have the same conversation over and over. Who ARE these people - the "base"? What in the world are they smoking? Truly bizarre. And how can it be so inextricably linked to southern evangelicals. Misogyny, racism, homophobia - nothing even remotely christian about it. Ever hear of the golden rule people? But it's round and round with never any answers. It's not new, though. After all, the founders only included white men in their "we the people". Even Abe Lincoln only eventually, reluctantly, agreed to abolish slavery.
If there is a country in 100 years, and between current events and the climate crisis I think that's up in the air, this period will (hopefully) be a dark stain.
I think what Congress is doing is getting all this into the historical record. But I think they made a mistake in not having witnesses - the ordinary people who were harmed by this - the police and staff and janitors. I would like to have seen them able to tell their stories and put those into the record also.

I agree that it would have been powerful to hear from some of the police officers, staffers, etc. and have it in the record. I’m watching the defense and so far I’m not at all impressed. He will be acquitted because the repugnicans won’t have the courage to vote against him. I really wish it could be a secret ballot. I truly believe there would be a different outcome if they didn’t fear retribution.0

My county is 7 straight days of being in the green, and other counties are beginning to be green also on the State map. The capsule report for the state:
Maryanne--"I see with my heart too!" is so powerful.

Jean, your state is a model for the rest of us. Too bad other states aren’t following WV lead. The House Managers showed an interesting video of Ted Cruz back in 2015 describing Trump’s propensity to call for violence from his supporters. He was appalled then. Some alien force must have sucked out his soul. He’s not the man he was back then.0

Our appointments for the second COVID vaccination scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled due to the extreme cold and potentially icy roads. No idea when we will be rescheduled since our weather for at least the next 7 days is only going to get worse. I wasn’t looking forward to going out in the cold tomorrow, but I was looking forward to getting the vaccination done. One of my friends called me when she got the same notification. She was very upset, but I think I was able to talk her down off the ledge. She’s from Chicago and said can’t people just dress warm? I reminded her that the process where we were scheduled included being checked while still in our cars for eligibility and that means people standing outside for hours in the cold to perform that job, not to mention the potentially icy road conditions. And after seeing footage of the horrific traffic pileup in Fort Worth yesterday, I’m sure the authorities didn’t want to take any chances asking people to get out on the roads. She agreed and was able to see the wisdom of postponing the appointment.0

Pam--Sorry you had to delay the vaccination; I saw footage of that pile up so I think the decision was wise. We haven't had pile ups but huge tractor trailers and semi's have slid off the interstate in a couple of areas closing the interstates. It just doesn't pay to take a chance. I am with electricity but some are without until estimated time of Sunday evening. Yes, another storm system arrives.0

It's sad (and terrifying) that they fear problems at the ballot box only if they don't condone the cheeto's villainy!
It hit me in the middle of the night last night what the newest J D Robb made me think of - the terrifying thought if someone with the cheeto's resources, misogyny, white supremacy, and charisma was actually smart, the horror that could ensue. She makes him more of a cult leader than a political figure but the thought's there. I see some of the Amazon reviews reference the political theme.0 -
That accident was horrible. The footage didn’t really show it, but it occurred in a toll lane that is one lane of roadway between concrete barriers on both sides. The stretch of road where it occurred was on a downhill grade, so when vehicles came over the top of the hill they hit ice, tried to slow, and just began to slide, one vehicle into the next. With concrete barriers on either side, there was nowhere to go except into the vehicle in front of you. The road was supposed to have been treated for ice, but investigations are being opened into whether or not that had occurred properly or if at all. It also occurred very early in the morning when a lot of medical personnel were heading into work at area hospitals, so many of the people involved in the accidents were medical personnel. I think the final count was 133 cars and trucks involved and 6 deaths. Many more are still being treated for their injuries. Fortunately, our COVID numbers have finally begun to decline, so there are ICU beds and medical beds available now.0

Yeah, I imagine someone from Chicago would think some of us are wusses. BUT ice is nothing to mess around with.
I'm really, really, sorry it was called off though!0 -

I had a blind cat briefly twice. The first time was a foster and she was the only foster DH ever mentioned later regretting giving up. She did well and was a real love. The other was our MIssy who became blind after a bad anaesthesia reaction. She never acclimated - at all - and it probably was a blessing in disguise when her kidneys failed shortly after.
Funny story with the foster. I took her to the vet and said I thought she might be blind but I wasn't sure. The vet said "let's find out". She put her down on the floor and she walked right into the wall. She'd actually done better than that at our house. She even did stairs while hugging the wall. I think she had a little light perception or something.

Our state is breaking out in green. My county has not had any new cases in the past week.

WOW! It's good that there are beds available but a year ago who'd ever have thought we'd be wondering if our hospitals had beds and supplies.0 -
Since we are getting ice today I fed as early as I could - the sun was barely coming up. I'd never been out that early. I saw one cat at each colony; hopefully the other guys were out and eating before the birds get the food.
We actually had a fox in our yard just a little while ago. We never see them so blatantly out and about. I hope he doesn't have rabies as we have one neighbor who lets their cat out and another who forces their cats out all day. DH put cat food out for the fox. It will likely get eaten by the birds instead but he tried!0 -
My sister has a blind dog. If I remember correctly, she had glaucoma that eventually led to the vet having to remove one eye, then later the second eye. She actually does very well in their house, but they always walk her on a leash. She can’t just be let out into their back yard because they have a pool and fear she could fall in and drown. They live next door to a group home that is occupied by 4 developmentally disabled men who love their dog. Whenever they take her out for a walk these men come out to pet Millie. A couple of times they’ve found stray dogs in the neighborhood and bring them to my sister to ask if it’s one of theirs. She bakes cookies for them sometimes just because others in the neighborhood have not been very friendly or welcoming to these very nice and kind men. Last week they gave her hand made valentines, which she found very touching. Interestingly, the most vocal opponent of this group home was a retired Baptist minister who lives across the street. You’d think he would have been more tolerant n0

What a sweet dog and it does sound like she has a good life!
Why does that Baptist minister's reaction not surprise me? Could it be my views have been tainted by southern "christian" support of the cheeto? Hmmmm......0 -
