Everyone in MD is frantically sharing tips on getting the vaccine. This is ridiculous!

I know it's important to get the vaccine out to everyone, including those who think they don't want it, but can we focus more on those who are ready willing and able right now?

Meanwhile the organizers think they are going to have a cat show in March. Hard sell for vendors to come. No way in h____ The next 6-14 weeks are supposed to be the worst (so far anyway).

I don’t see you having a cat show anytime soon. Not enough people would come to justify the work and expense.

They moved it to one of the most expensive venues around. Maybe the place is giving deep discounts to try to restart people coming to have events there? No clue. Just really, really bothers me that people are just doing whatever but thinking they're being safe (she had all kinds of incorrect arguments for safety).

Maryanne--Bad timing for a cat show; we love the cats but most people also want to be safe.

Up at 4:30am which would be 5:30 on Daylight Savings. My body never changed to standard time. Have spent time going through bookshelves to see what can go. I discovered a scrap book of the good old days when I was active in state and national associations. I found a check out receipt from the Hyatt Regency Atlanta for March 1980. I paid less than $60 a night with tax included. Oh, the impact of inflation!

Today is grocery store frozen food day. For breakfast I had a Jimmy Dean D'lites bowl. A little high in calories so I pitched all the potatoes which I don't like anyway (I have no clue WHY they put potatoes in most frozen diet breakfasts? Just because they're cheap?)

I just printed my spreadsheets for the weekend. I have the rest of the week's food in baskets but still need to do the spreadsheets.

It's a sunny day here but dreadfully cold and windy. I replenished the water in the heated bird bath and we still have a blue jay trying to chip at the ice in the non heated bird bath.

The news is so depressing. Between the pandemic and the white supremacists and climate change hope seems hard to come by.

Potatoes in frozen breakfasts are probably a nod to hash browns which are pretty popular in restaurant breakfasts. Plus the calories in them probably make you feel fuller. I like the just crack and egg breakfasts. They’re in the diary case. The ingredients come in 3 little packets. So if you don’t like potatoes, it’s easy to toss the whole packet.

I never could stand potatoes of any kind for breakfast. When I have breakfast in a restaurant and the entree says that potatoes are included, I tell them to leave off the potatoes. Same with grits! Ugh!

I do not like grits, but I do enjoy crispy hash browns for breakfast. I’m not a huge fan of eggs but I can eat them if scrambled or in an omelet. Can’t stand fried eggs, especially if the yolk is runny. That is just exceedingly gross to me, lol. Of course, DH likes all of it — grits, fried eggs, hash browns. He is one of the least picky eaters I’ve ever known.

I’d say yes to hash browns and grits. The grits need butter, salt and pepper to give them taste. I love any kinds of eggs but omelets are my favorite. I’d rather go out for breakfast than for dinner. Not that I’d say no to dinner but breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

I don't think I've ever had grits but I also have no desire to.

Sunny day today but we're supposed to get snow tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the winter's one snowstorm. I gave everyone at the colonies a huge meal today. I imagine Sharon will feed tomorrow before it gets to bad but just in case she can't...

Shopper brought me 32 ounce bag of fresh green beans instead of 12 ounces to DH's dismay!

I only got in three hours of sleep last night. When I awakened, it was later than usual. I switched over to Netflix to watching Virgin River again for a couple of hours before going back to bed. I am really debating the upcoming knee surgery and preparations I need to get done before then. So far, the cortisone injections are working but I was told I would benefit from the surgery.

The only positive thing today was a call from my primary doctor's office to let me know that all the tests run from six vials of blood showed all the numbers were in the excellent range.

Like Maryanne, I am awaiting the snow. I am so ready for spring and summer.

We had a warm day with a high of 74, but the winds were averaging around 35-45 miles per hour, so it wasn’t too pleasant being outside. I did go and get a pedicure to take advantage of the warmer weather. My feet are always cold unless I’m wearing socks and shoes, so pedicures in the cooler months have to be carefully timed so I can stand to go without socks for several hours. The place where I get my pedicures done takes COVID precautions very seriously and I do feel safe there, but I have been intentionally spacing out such services longer than I normally would.

Yesterday I made soup and brownies which I took to my friend and her husband who have COVID, along with some cornbread that I had in the freezer. She was very appreciative. DH was also very happy since I don’t cook that often anymore, lol!

My sister and her DH got their second COVID shots yesterday. So far she is experiencing a sore arm and a little bit of body aches, but her DH is in bed with nausea, headaches, fever, chills and body aches. We are 2 weeks out from our second shots and I’m really hoping we don’t both have severe symptoms.

    I hope you don't, too!

All these people getting vaccinated. I keep reading it. As far as I can figure out, there's no shots on my immediate horizon. DH says I feel left out. Pretty silly when what <10% of the population has been vaccinated but he's right.

I put our names on the new FL website. It just gets your name on a list for them to contact you when they have an opening. Who knows how long we’ll have to wait but it’s better than nothing. The media has been full of stories of people spending hours online trying to sign up only to get dropped part way through sign up. You can only do it when the window opens. It’s only once or twice a week and those logging in get messages that the appointments are all filled minutes after the window opened. The new FL website is supposed to help with that frustration. You fill it out once and wait your turn instead of futile attempts to sign up. The window opens at 6 AM. So you have to get up extra early and then get disappointed.

I guess we are fortunate to live in a county that has done a good job of administering the vaccine. Around the end of December, the authorities opened up availability for those 65 and older, or younger with a qualifying underlying health condition. There were a few hiccups in the early days, but after a week or so several mega centers were opened where the process was streamlined and mass numbers of people could be processed fairly quickly. The registration process is through an online portal operated by our county health department. Some of the local hospital systems also have a separate process and supply for patients in their system, so there are multiple avenues to receive the vaccine. The main issue some people are having is inability to sign up online through lack of access to a computer or lack of computer literacy. This is being addressed through outreach and signup locations for people in known areas where there has been little utilization of the registration process. Dallas County has adopted much of the same procedures that my county has used so effectively, and in fact, my county’s model is being adopted in most of the large cities here in Texas.

There are two vaccination locations close to us. One is, as best as we can figure out, seeing only their own patients and not yet in our age group. Their web site message is sort of don't call us; we'll call you. The other is a University of Maryland Medical System facility now (it was formerly the hospital where DH spent most of his career). Their web site doesn't say they are seeing only their own patients but cell phone number is a required field. Since neither of us keeps a cell phone turned on/charged I just exited out of that one. I did put my name into the county website. And next month when I see my primary care provider I'll see what, if anything, they can tell me. I'm sure they won't be doing vaccinations (they didn't do shingrix because it had to be frozen) they might have some information. My best bet will probably be Hopkins at some point because most of my doctors are Hopkins but so far no information from them beyond intro stay tuned kind of emails.

All it did here today was pour the rain; 50 miles away, they had 4 inches of snow before it also started raining.

This week I am scheduled to get my second Covid shot but with all the news about vaccines not being available, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Icy, sleety morning here. We'd probably be better off with snow.

I've got my food and spreadsheet ready for the day. I "think" the treadmill's little issue is solved. So I'm on a roll hopefully! I'm still watching My 600-lb Life while on the treadmill. I'm up to season 6. Tammy Lyn. Strangest fat distribution I think I've ever seen. All in her stomach which almost reaches the ground when she's sitting. I'm curious to see how this one comes out. Maybe that will keep me on the treadmill a few extra minutes every day. LOL!

I also admire Stacey Abrams. She did a phenomenal job turning out the vote in Georgia and I think we have her to thank for gaining 2 more seats in the Senate.

The weather is pretty nice here this week. Our high was in the low 50’s and it was sunny, which always improves my mood. I awoke with a UTI, which I haven’t had in many, many years. I called my doctor’s office and was able to get an appointment with one of the nurse practitioners in the practice. She confirmed my diagnosis and sent in a prescription for an antibiotic, which was ready and waiting for me by the time I got to the pharmacy. I’m feeling a little better after 1 dose of the medication, but not quite at normal yet. On the plus side, I’m drinking lots more water and getting my exercise running back and forth to the bathroom.

Pam--quick action on getting an appointment and med for the UTI.

We are having a remote learning day because of road conditions. Thanks to technology and each student having a laptop, we no longer have "snow days." The negative of that is that a job I had is no longer needed.

Maryanne--The job no longer needed was the sub assignment for today. It was the same assignment that got deleted last Thurs and Fri because of the school being closed for deep cleaning and spraying after a Covid-infected person made her rounds throughout the entire building. In all fairness, she didn't know she was infected at the time and didn't develop symptoms until after making the rounds. I'm supposed to sub again Thurs and Fri in same position but time will tell. This person has been out because of being exposed to someone with Covid.

    This is our state's vaccine information;
