I just watched CNN coverage of the memorial service in DC to remember the 400,000 who have died from Covid. Biden and Harris led a very simple ceremony. No acknowledgement from Trump of all thos who have died.0

His farewell "message" which I'm guessing was written by his attorneys (if he still has any) to try to improve his legal position, showed no sympathy or remorse about the coronavirus debacle.
I bet his speech tomorrow morning to his crowd at Andrews Air Force Base will be less restrained but equally clueless.0 -
I certainly hope that the mainstream media gives the cheeto zero airtime going forward.0

I was hoping they wouldn’t even cover him leaving Andrews but that’s probably too much to ask. McConnell and McCarthy aren’t going to see him off. Biden invited them to church and they said yes to that. It sounded like a lot of higher ups so no thanks. Pence is going to the inauguration at her than Trump’s farewell. Considering Trump almost got Pence and family killed, why would he go. Melania has been trying to get her Twitter followers to migrate from the flouts account to her personal account so she can keep people updated about their goings on. She’s getting trolled and not many people are following her to the account. Do you think she’s surprised? Probably, since the family is clueless.0

Pretty amazing!
Most of the living former presidents will be there.
Four years ago today I had a mid day eye doctor appointment. They had the TV on and I had to try to be available to hear my name called while trying NOT to hear the inauguration. I remember screaming inwardly while maintaining a perfectly calm exterior.
Today is the one-year anniversary of Patient Zero - the first COVID patient.
The country is in so much worse shape than it was four years ago but there's hope.

Great line from the Post:
“Even Nixon didn’t pardon his cronies on the way out,” Noah Bookbinder, executive director of the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said in a statement. “Amazingly, in his final 24 hours in office, Donald Trump found one more way to fail to live up to the ethical standard of Richard Nixon.”0 -
I watched the coverage of the departures. I consider it low key.0

Okay, I teared up a little when they swore in Kamala (and I'm not a fan). I may not live long enough to see the first woman president but it's a start.0

I got choaked up joining Garth Brooks in singing Amazing Grace. Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez set the right tone as well. Amanda, the youth poet laureate, was so powerful. The optimism and stressing unity is a breath of fresh air.0

One of the downsides of DH being retired is I never get to sing. LOL! Even he (not a country music fan) admired Garth's performance.0 -
Three cheers!
On Day 1, Biden Is Putting Donald Trump’s Climate Rules Through A Paper Shredder
Along with an executive order spree, the incoming president will review and freeze dozens of Trump-era rules and regulations.0 -
Of all the previous inaugurations I’ve watched (and I’ve watched quite a few), I think this may be the best one I’ve ever seen. Despite all the things that had to be done differently due to COVID and security issues, it was inspiring and reassuring.
That said, I thought Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez looked ridiculous. They sang beautifully, but their costumes were utterly inappropriate for the occasion.0 -
I just realized tomorrow is 1/21/21.
Dinner tonight was NOT a success:
NS Pasta Fagioli - I'll never have that again.
Birds Eye broccoli/sugar snaps/carrots/water chestnuts. Should have been great. Somehow it wasn't.0 -

I liked Gaga’s outfit from the waist up. The puffy red skirt was jarring. I loved the way she sang the anthem, particularly the phrase the flag was still there. She gave it just the right emphasis considering what we experienced two weeks ago. I agree this was an inspiring inauguration despite the pandemic and extra security. I’m watching the prime time special. The song choices really reflect what we’ve seen these 4 years. The sun is coming out and better days are ahead.0

This is the song I went looking for (I was pleased to see the band was wearing masks too):

Biden's schedule. Compare to the cheeto's daily schedule for the last two months which read like a first grader wrote it (apparently he wrote it and insisted his aides use it):

I really enjoyed the inauguration. I'm not really a Lady Gaga fan despite her roots in our state but when I think of the coverage, her singing always comes to mind. What a performance! There seems to be an uplift in spirits today as I surf the news channels, but we know it is the "honeymoon" period.0

I'm not a crier. I simply don't (except for when we lose a cat). But I teared up when in the middle of the night we were sure Barack Obama had been elected. And I teared up yesterday when Kamala Harris was sworn in.
I can relate:

Yesterday my sister went with her 48 year old daughter to her appointment for her COVID vaccination. Kelly has an extreme phobia of needles, but she received the shot without any problem. As she was sitting for the required observation period afterward, she suddenly dropped her phone and slid out of the chair. Before my sister could get to her, she said 4-5 medical personnel were there. They called an ambulance, elevated her legs, brought over a defibrillator and lots of other medical equipment. Just as they were about to administer a shot of epinephrine, Kelly came to and immediately said “No more shots!” Her blood pressure and heart rate were extremely low, but began to recover pretty quickly once she was conscious again. My sister was very calm during this and the medical personnel commented on how calm she was, to which she replied “She’s done this before, so I know what to expect.” In fact, she and her daughter were both laughing by now and the medical personnel had to admonish them because their laughter was making it hard for them to get accurate blood pressure and heart rate readings. She was fine after awhile and was able to go home, but I’m sure she caused quite a stir for those at the center where she got the vaccine.
This condition is called Vasovagal Syncope and I also experience it, though not related to needles. For most people it’s a pain or stress response, but we’ve never been able to determine what triggers it for me. I’ve had numerous episodes throughout my life and the circumstances have been different almost every time.0
