Oh - if you make the pie be sure to spray or lightly grease the pan. It’ll stick otherwise. Basically it’s the pie without the crust. Top with some low cal Cool Whip.

We made this dessert for Christmas day as an alternative to rich, heavy Christmas pudding a few years ago, and it was universally enjoyed. I'm planning to make it again this year. The only improvement I would make is to omit the fresh clementine (because it freezes too hard and defrosts more slowly than the rest of the dessert). If you don't have Vin Santo you could use a sweet marsala or madeira. Make sure you use really good quality vanilla ice cream or gelato with a high cream content. Similarly, use good quality dark chocolate (at least 70% pure cocoa solids). Not cooking chocolate. Sooooooo good!

That is quite the show stopper! Thanks. I think I may try that for New Years Day. By then the Christmas feast should have settled some.

I don't like you. There is a cat I don't like around here. Well... I COULD like the cat if I had some of the EFFFING KITTEN PUDDING IN MY PAWS. And no calorie hit neither!

I'll be making these again too this year. Soooo tasty! I added more freshly grated parmesan so that they were deliciously salty and cheesy. They pair exceptionally well with a crisp dry white wine (such as Pecorino) or a glass of bubbly.

    Here's the recipe:

Bella you are a dangerous woman! I’ll definitely try out both recipes. We do get Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson’s cooking shows here. I liked Oliver’s recent veggie based show.

These both look amazing! The bombe and the shortbreads. Not sure I will be up to cooking/preparing this year. But I'm definitely introducing them next year...or maybe by New Year's???

Don't blame me - you asked for it!

And thank you for the recipes! Sometimes it’s helpful to have one spectacular tasty treat to look forward to instead of many mediocre treats.

I agree. The sweet stuff doesn't tempt me in the slightest, but anything salty, crunchy and cheesy would be decadently delicious!

@Yoolypr your high value treat substituting for multiple mediocre is an extremely effective treat limiter and I would be well served to adopt it as it also plays at empowering us to make active choices: I will pass on the maltesers to have a Jaime Oliver bomb!

Make sure it’s worthy of the calories. And then enjoy it fully. Not two or more treats and certainly not lackluster treats.
Not every day is perfect. 🥴 Trying to get through the next two weeks without giving up entirely.

What the heck is a malteser? Tim bit?

In context Tim bit was referring to Post brand "Tim Bit" cereal which are a take on Tim Horton Tim bits which are their equivalent to donut hole donuts. In my post it was a reference to a chocolate flavored low nutrition but higher visual volume for calories cereal as compared to a more calorically and nutritionally dense granola type cereal.

Malted milk balls! Luckily I never developed a craving for that particular flavor. The malteser cake is positively obscene! Downright food porn.😱

    YES YES YES

This is one of my ridiculous mistakes. Ridiculous because I do it over and over and over and don't seem to learn. Go BIG and then go home (back to healthy eating). I will try to hold onto that for the moment when I'm jonesing for a treat/feeling in need of something to soothe my tattered nerves....lol...woe is me self. :p

    This was requested.

Greek green bean and olive oil stew

    Ingredients (4-6 portions)
    1 medium onion
    100ml olive oil
1 clove of garlic (I go for two but YMMV)
    1 teaspoon granulated sugar
500g potatoes (3 medium or 2 large ones)
    1 full tablespoon tomato paste
    50g white wine
    lemon zest, of 1 lemon
    400g canned tomatoes
    300g water
1 vegetable bouillon cube (or 1 teaspoon of bouillon powder - I use Knorr)
1kg green beans, fresh or frozen
    1/3 bunch mint (optional)
    2 spring onions
    1/3 bunch parsley (not optional!)
    salt
    pepper

    To serve
    200 g feta cheese, optional
    1 tablespoon(s) oregano, dry
    2 tablespoon(s) olive oil
    3-4 slices bread

    Procedure
Place a pot over high heat and add 2 tablespoons olive oil.
Coarsely chop the onion and add to the pot.
Mince the garlic and add it to the pot along with the sugar. Sauté until the onion softens.
Peel the potatoes, cut them into pieces and add them to the pot.
Add the tomato paste and wine. Mix until the alcohol evaporates.
Add the lemon zest, chopped tomatoes, water and bouillon cube.
Chop the edges off of the green beans, add them to the pot and mix.
Cover pot with lid, lower heat to medium-low and simmer for 40-50 minutes.
Remove pot from heat and add the (mint,) parsley, the green part of the spring onions finely chopped, salt, pepper and 80 g of olive oil.

Mix and serve with feta cheese drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with oregano along with slices of bread.

Just found some of this in my freezer today - wanted to comment here to bring it back to the top of the recipes for anyone looking for it - this is absolutely delicious!

So I'm making gözleme for lunch, following this recipe

Just the mince one and the potato/pepper-paste one. Emphatically NOT the tahini/cocoa/honey/cream-cheese one! Nor the cheese one....

Gulp! Sausan makes the meat ones sometimes. I hope she uses less butter (gulp!) though I somehow doubt it!

They do indeed look dangerous. Definitely in the "treat" category as opposed to a regular menu item.

Has anyone experimented with surimi ( imitation crab) which is a fish product? I’ve used surimi in cold salad with chopped celery, onion and bit of low fat mayo. Similar to lobster roll filling. But what else can be done with surimi? Does it work in hot dishes?
