Hi everyone. I'm back! First, I'm in for 50 miles this month with 7 so far. Starting late so I hope this is realistic. I do need to lose a couple of vacation pounds LOL so here's hoping I get out and move some every day.
As for Alaska, I don't even know where to begin. Dave, when you finally get there I think you'll love it. It was like nothing I've ever seen. I spent two weeks mostly out of my comfort zone, sometimes mildly terrified, but it was awesome. We saw glaciers (they really are a surreal blue). We saw bears, moose, caribou, foxes, eagles, hawks, Dall sheep, beavers, and a wolf. And more bears - some way closer than I would have liked. We rode the Alaska railroad and saw Mt. McKinley. We were evacuated out of Denali National Park after the only road out suffered a landslide. We experienced a snowstorm in August. We bounced across the tundra, ate wild blueberries, learned about permafrost and lichen, and stayed in a cabin with no water or electricity. We went fishing in the Katmai preserve and caught the biggest rainbow trout I have ever seen. We saw thousands of sockeye salmon spawning. We flew in little planes and saw glaciers and volcanic craters from the air. It was really unlike anything I have ever seen.
