I didn’t set a goal this year; & no matter how I try to get motivated, it isn’t sticking. I think I have a goal for next year. I turn 48 at the beginning of the year. I’d like to live 9 months out of next year under 148. 😳8 -

Big congratulations to all participants for hitting great milestones along the way (consistent step tracking, meeting daily step pledges, laddering up, participating in fitness challenges, etc.) We did so well this month as a team!
For the challenge month of September, we walked a total of 1,660,824 steps together, or a whopping 786 miles. This means we walked from Boston to Washington, D.C. and back again! Quite a trek that was.
Looking forward to October – welcome to @jugar and @evangsimmons1703 -
@conleywoods While the move sounds good for your husband, I'm sorry to hear the lawyer crap had to be part of it... hope everything resolves itself quickly. I like your strategy of having something small to look forward to every day - sometimes Brad and I get really bogged down in work stress at the same time too and that would be a great tactic to refocus out of it.
Great weigh in @DD265 and great start to the week @KellyBgetsfit ... feels good to start Monday off on that foot eh?
Brad and I remain on holidays for this week and most of next. Today we are planning to go for another hike. Tomorrow we get a Peloton bike delivered.. we were trying to decide what our options were for the winter and while we had a recumbent bike we bought when Brad first had his hip replaced, it's not exactly what we're looking for anymore, so we sold that to replace it with a Peloton. With how obsessed Brad is with biking, it was a no brainer... and we will get a ton of use out of it. We had toyed with joining a gym instead but once we return to office our days outside the home are already quite long and with the dog it just didn't seem likely we'd actually want to go out again in the winter once we got home.6 -

Welcome Monday! Wishing everyone a great week.
@YinxFed Wishing you loads of luck on all your business goals this week. 🍀 Take time for Yinka goals too. 💕
@conleywoods Wow! You are amazing! Lunches for the week done ✅ I was never quite so organized. Good for you and even with all the stress. Thanks for the spaghetti squash ideas. They sound so good. I just bought one and an acorn squash, which I’ve never made. And I LOVE how you and your hubby prioritize your relationship and make it fun. What great examples you are for your children.
@KellyBgetsfit Kudos to you on meal prep too and awesome sleep! With 4 kids and a full time job, that’s quite an accomplishment. Glad your classroom change has made it more manageable.
I started the day with 13 minutes of Pilates. It was a full body workout. Always cracks me up what calories Fitbit says I’ve burned. 20! Ha! I don’t believe you Fitbit.
I left the creamer out of my coffee today. So that’s 20 calories I’ve reduced my intake. Lol. Now I need 180 more. I really want to focus more on REALLY drinking my water today. My very yellow pee yesterday told the true story. 😬
We may be having a lot of rain over the next 5 days. It’s good I suppose. It’s been dry for awhile. So not sure how walks will go. If I can’t walk, I will do a little cardio workout on line before I sit myself down to watch tv tonight.
Have a great one!5 -
@conleywoods those sound delicious! I'm tempted to get some spaghetti squash and try them.
This week has not started off great - I've pulled something in my back, insomnia has struck the last few days so I feel like a zombie, I have a midterm tomorrow night that I'm wholy unprepared for, hormones due to impending time of the month are wreaking havoc with my emotions (which does not bode well for this week's weigh in). And, the worst part, I forgot my coffee this morning 😭.
Unfortunately, all of this is something I need to get used to. Although I finally have a physio appointment Wednesday for some of the other injuries I'm dealing with, which is good.
Despite my exam, I'm hoping tomorrow will go better!5 -
Better late than never?
Hi everybody, Ashley politely (repeatedly) reminded me that I haven't written my monthly re-intro to the group, so here goes.
I'm @ashleycarole86's proud husband. We live in Airdrie, Alberta which is a short drive to Calgary and to the Rocky Mountains. I moved to Alberta 3.5 yrs ago to start a new life with my best friend. At that time I was more than 70 pounds heavier, on prescription opioids and on what ended up being a 5 year wait for a hip replacement after a serious boating accident. At that time I could barely walk from our work parking spot to the office and was in constant pain. Today, I am pain and drug free - I'm in this sort of sweetspot in life where I am completely prescription free and trying to take this as far as I possibly can. I am an avid cyclist with major goals for 2022 which includes my first Grand Fondo (a road race of 160kms that must be completed in under 8 hours).
Ashley and I love hiking/cycling in the mountains. We are so blessed to live where we do. We have just invested in a Peloton bike, which solved my dilemma of how to continue training through the winter so that I can continue progressing and hit the road in the spring in good shape. The bike arrives tomorrow so we are pretty pumped. If anyone else has the bike, please add me. My username is KingOfTheClimb (cocky, right? 😉).
In terms of October goals, I need to say goodbye to the 200's permanently. I've been as low as 195 but keep creeping up and down. This is all on me - I need to do a better job of hydrating and tracking my calories. I am taking too many liberties lately. My goal weight is between 150 and 160 and this IS do-able!
To my existing brothers and sisters, thanks for your encouragement through these past several months. You have helped more than you realize. To the new members, you've made a wonderful decision to embark on this journey. Stay the course and you'll see that it works. No b.s. just common sense and a lot of hard work (and persistence). If you need a push or some propping up, just ask - you're surrounded by friends that "get you".
Hope your October is magical and the scale shines in your favour!9 -
Wow Monday!
It has been an exciting morning here. The best part was having an insanity of crows (I think it is time to change the collective noun today) whirling around my house, landing in the very tops of all the trees that surround it, all the while cawing their heads off. There must have been 100 of them. They always mob in the Fall, but this was the biggest, loudest group I have ever seen. It was a blast!
All the news here is also quite a raucous wild collection.
@kellie_erin I hope you feel better soon! Zombie is not a good place to be Insomnia, hormones, muscle pulls - this does not sound like much fun. I am so glad you have a physio appointment, and that the midterm has not happened yet. You'll hopefully be able to carve out some calm moments to sit with the material. But how did you forget your coffee?? That is difficult. You must have been really sleepwalking! Please let me know if it would be helpful to have this week's weigh-in excused. One week only - but sometimes it helps to have one less thing to stress about. Of course, if it keeps you from seriously overdoing it, and you want to keep it, that works too. Hugs flying your way!
@micki48 Well done on leaving out the creamer! As you say, 20 calories down, 180 to go. Some things that are easy to leave off - get rid of mayo in a sandwich, if you're eating those by using green chutney mixed with nonfat greek yogurt (about equally, depending on the chutney). No fat, and crazy good. If you don't like or can't find green chutney, it also works well with any kind of relish, onion marmelade, or other chutneys. Apple slices with a thin smear of almond butter (or peanut or sunflower). Best snack ever, and even makes me not miss cookies sometimes. If you drink juice, go for water with fresh lemon or lime juice. Hot or cold. Still or fizzy. I'm sure others have some good substitutions or ideas for what is not too hard to cut out. Those 180 calories will soon be history!
Department of Jealousy: You're getting a Peloton @ashleycarole86 !! I am sweating green...
@deniners2 I think your goal is a good one! Under 148 for 48 - it is a beautiful harmony. See if you can break that down into little steps. Make something crafty to represent the 10 pounds and slowly move them about. It can be silly be really effective. @micki48 made a paper chain with each link representing a pound (or could even be a half pound) - every time you lose that amount, you get to tear off the link and burn it! Or I use a technique when practicing something difficult (I used to make my students do it too) - I have 10 gorgeous small polished stones. I put them on the left side of my music stand. Each time I do the passage or piece correctly, I move one stone to the right. The goal is to get them all over there. It is just a silly symbol, but it feels great when they are all on the right side. If you're not into that, at least set yourself the .5 pound loss per week for the 20 weeks it will take to get there slowly and easily. Don't hold yourself to the 20 week total, but aim for that half pound - even if there are fluctuations, it isn't too overwhelming. Good luck!!5 -

@jugar I just left the thermos sitting there in my rush to grab my backpack, gym bag, and purse! I'll still weigh in this week but I might be up, which I apologize for in advance 😅.6

I've had this darn sweater for years, got it as a gift and it never fit. Just put the bad boy on and ta da!
Does that ever get old?? It can't...9 -
Hello, I'm Gary, I'm 50 and I live in Florida. I was part of the group earlier this year but recently took some time off. I tried to transition off keto on to something easier to maintain and I have failed miserably gaining around 20 pounds. I started at 287, stayed in the low 240s for a bit, and now I'm back at 260. During my time off I also stress ate through an employee shortage but that shortage has improved significantly the last few weeks. I'm back, I've enjoyed reading your posts from this month, and I'm ready to stack some perfect days and get back to 240 and lower!!
@jugar thank you for all that you do for this team! I'm sure it is a thankless and time consuming job but I appreciate the time you put in to it and the time you took to reach out to me while I was away!7 -

no apologies needed! I read a cool thing recently, I forget where. When we make mistakes, they are compost! Just let them die, and they will pile up and feed the roots and all the lovely stuff growing. I like that one. So compost the next weigh-in5 -

And here you are! This is great. You're putting some compost onto your mix, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a more sustainable way to eat, even if it takes a couple more less-than-perfect experiments. I tried so many - macrobiotics, meal replacement shakes, low carb, low fat - and I'm sure others have done the same. Eventually you'll find the mix that you enjoy and that keeps you where you want to be.
Are you sticking with Friday as your weigh-in day?2 -
@ashleycarole86
That sweater is gorgeous on you! I have some really old stuff that felt so amazing when I could fit back into them, and NO. That feeling never gets old! Even when we do6 -
@ashleycarole86 You look great! How exciting to fit in that sweater that did not fit. I have two of those as well. Maybe one day I will be able to share like you. Yay! For you and Brad - a Peloton!! How fun!
@jugar What an insanity!! Was there a hawk near by. Our crows go nuts when a hawk is near. We had a show of red headed woodpeckers over at my daughter’s today. There were at least four of them flying all over her front yard. A storm was coming so that may have been it.
@gak71 Glad to see you back! Good luck. 🍀 You can do this.
I met my step goal and was under my calories, but not as low as I would like it. I know what I did. It was refined sugar. Darn cRap!! My husband made delicious whole wheat and wheat germ peanut butter cookies and I ate three. A little bit of healthy stuff but still…I know. I ended the day around 1500 calories. Hoping I can end at 1400 tomorrow, then 1300 and hopefully if I keep it about there, I will see a loss. I’m afraid much less and I will be too hungry. Just trying to find the sweet spot for loss. It’s been so long since I’ve had steady losses. I’ve had close to 80 ounces of water but need to finish my cup to have really accomplished that.

Monday weigh-ins still due:
@Emerald_Storm
@TessieMac833
@mocchaeyes7961
and the Empress of Tuesday:
@Kali2254 -
@gak71 Welcome back Gary... glad to have you back with us for October.
@jugar Empress of Tuesday, lol... love it. Good start back for your exercise stats too!
@micki48 You've got a really solid plan!
Exercise 10/04 -
10,011 steps and 10 minutes Pilates
We had a great hike today but I overate a bit... I'm giving myself a bit of toggling between deficit and maintenance while I'm on holidays depending on the plans for the day but today was supposed to be my normal deficit and I ate a bit more than planned.
Resetting for tomorrow!5 -
How is it only Tuesday? This feeling does not bode well for the remainder of the week - I suspect it's going to drag!
I went over my calorie goal yesterday after we made an adjustment to the side we had with dinner. When I first started that would've caused some stress, but now I roll with it and more importantly, don't use it as an excuse to go all in.
I had a PT session at 6am which was good. We took some videos of squat and deadlift form, the deadlift being perfect *hair flick* then did some heart rate training on the assault bike. He wants me to learn how I feel at various heart rates so I can start to adjust my tempo/technique accordingly. My homework this week is to run twice and I'm doing intervals - 2 minutes on, 1 minute off. The aim is to increase my heart rate by 10 for each 2 min interval (up to 180-190, whatever I can manage) and try to keep it at that number. I think this will be an interesting, but challenging one!
Dad hasn't had his day 5 test result yet (grrrrrr) so we're still 'grounded' and I figured I might as well work this morning at least. Hoping it'll come through and we can still go out this evening, if not this afternoon. I'll play work by ear. He only received his day 2 test result late last night, and that should've come through on Friday! Because we were supposed to be going out for a meal tonight, I haven't planned anything at home and there's a (slim) chance we'll still be able to go out. Otherwise, we'll go get something to bring back. Frustrating.5 -
I'm on vacation - a staycation really. A lot on my to do list - making time for meeting up with distant friends but a lot of pre-winter must get done tasks for this old house. I have to watch my eating - I've definitely learned that when faced with too much to do and not knowing where to start, I end up eating when I'm not hungry, and lots. A second thing I need to watch for - the dark long evenings of late fall and winter. Last year I walked a lot in the evenings and, after last night's wine and chocolates (long after I closed my food log for the day), I realize I should start that up again to counter any evening snacking. Tonight's the night. and with that statement, I'll need some accountability...
@ashleycarole86 please add me to the step team - I'll aim for 9,000 steps a day. Great sweater on you and no, that feeling doesn't get old. : )
@jugar - crows, I love them - usually have 5 or 6 that regularly check our field for scraps I'll toss out there for them...they know me and wait up in the silver maple. But you remind me that in Lowell there's an enormous roosting area - thousands gather - maybe I'll make a little day trip.
I'm going to go on a sheet pan dinner binge - must find some winner combos to get an easy healthy supper together. And I am NOT going to test my willpower again - no more Halloween sized treats will enter this house...the ones I bought are all gone now.
Anyone looking for a good snack? I have found the Crunchmaster multigrain baked crackers and Tzatziki together are very satisfying - BJ's has both which makes it economically palatable too.

One of my favourite one-dish meals:Smokey Orange Chicken Bake
Prep time: 0:20
Cook time: 0:40
Serves: 2
2 sweet potatoes cut into wedges
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped, and a few sprigs
Spray oil
1 onion, cut into wedges
3 peppers, cut into wedges
2 chicken breasts, skinless
1 orange, 1/2 sliced, 1/2 cut into wedges
Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 7/220'C/fan over 200'C and place a large roasting tray on the top shelf to preheat.
Add the potatoes to a pan of boiling water and bring back to the boil. Cook, covered, for 5 mins.
Drain the potato wedges and shake gently to roughen up the edges. Sprinkle with 1 tsp smoked paprika, the garlic and chopped thyme, and mix gently to coat evenly.
Spray the hot tray with the cooking spray and tip the potato wedges on to the tray. Tuck in the onion and peppers, season and spray with extra cooking spray. Cook for 15 mins.
Meanwhile, cut each chicken breast almost in half horizontally. Tuck a couple of orange slices and a sprig of thyme into each one. Dust with the remaining paprika and season lightly. Pop in the fridge, covered, until ready to cook.
When the 15 mins are up, add the chicken breasts and orange wedges to the oven tray. Cook for 15 mins, or until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are starting to caramelise.4 -
@jugar The Empress has arrived.
Tuesday Weigh-In
PW: 219.6
CW: 214.8
A solid loss, but I've just been bouncing around this range so it doesn't feel as impactful. I've been under 210 just one day since July? Gotta push forward, but October is off to a good start with walking, meals, and routines.
@DD265 I'm with you on this week - feels long already!
@ashleycarole86 sweater looks awesome! And cozy. (Thinking I should start a count of how many times I use the word "cozy" this fall.) Such a great feeling!8 -

Greetings, Empress! Your weigh-in is more than solid - it is royal! After a big jump down (over 2%) be careful this week not to bounce back. I have seen that happen often as keeper of the numbers, but if you keep steady, don't celebrate with extra calories, and don't try for another week with as big a jump down you should be all right! Even if you stay the same by next Tuesday, that's a big win. A small bit of green is a great goal for the next 6 days. Well done!5 -

@DD265 Thank you so much for that recipe. It sounds great and I just bought a bag of sweet potatoes🍠 I will definitely try it.
No creamer again this morning. Trying to be sure to get enough protein so I don’t consume too many calories. My mistake yesterday was a grabbed lunch instead of a protein filled, planned out meal. For breakfast this morning I had an egg, slice of sourdough with avocado, tomatoes, and basil. And ☕️ of course! So good. So filling. Under 300 calories.
😬🤗 The scale is down this morning and it’s kind of exciting. Hope it stays that way until Friday weigh in.
Off to go get some steps…have a wonderful day!6 -
@Kali225 Looks like fall coziness is treating the empress well - great weigh in! Keep on with the goals you set for yourself, looks like the habits are paying off.
@micki48 Your breakfast sounds delish! I love anything with avocado! Keep up the great work this week and it sounds like you'll have lots to celebrate come Friday
@eggfreak Got you added to the step team - welcome aboard! So happy to have a few more people tracking them with us.
@DD265 Hope everything comes through for your Dad and you get to go out tonight!
We had another nice hike yesterday - we are staying on top of lots of exercise this vacation. I am bouncing between deficit and maintenance days, weekly average for weight is down but individual weigh-ins the past few days have been up, need a mini whoosh here soon or I'll be posting a red for week 1. Will continue to focus on making the best decisions in the moments that are left between now and weigh-in.
I have been incorporating a few more strength based exercises lately and just have to trust the process. No bad patterns for myself starting - not getting into all or nothing thinking, not self-sabotaging, just continuing to observe. Night at a spa retreat with a gift card we've had for almost 2 years today so it will be more eating out. We also leave to see my Dad in Manitoba on Thursday for almost a week so this is all good practice for having a bit less control than usual.
Off to go get some steps while Brad waits for the Peloton bike delivery!6 -
Portion control portion control portion control.
That is all.
🤣😕🤔😏6 -
If you've guessed, I'm doing everything possible to avoid the leftover spaghetti in the fridge that's calling my name.
Must respect the portion size!
Willpower, where art thou?3
