Must respect the portion size!
Willpower, where art thou?
good idea - to check in here - we can ALL sympathize with the willpower battle. I'm having a hard time willing myself out the door into the dark mist for a walk, ha!4 -
@YinxFed I hope you get all of your prep done for your website! Good luck at the business conference too.
@PlaneMonkey You got this! You don't want spaghetti. I repeat, you do not want spaghetti.
@ashleycarole86 You look great in the sweater congrats 👏 @bowens1973 I hope you like your peleton bike. My husband and I have used the app maybe 2 years ago but not with the actual bike. Can't wait to hear about it.
I have been using the weight watchers app for a few weeks now. Last night we had pizza and I had the thin crust. The points for the dinner seemed really high to me. I was kind of curious what the calories were for that day. When I calculated them the entire day was1500 calories which isn't what I would consider a blow out. That made me worry what the calories were on days that the app said I was on target. I did a few days to make sure I had a good average. The calories came out to about 950 a day, which isn't okay 😕 No wonder I had such a big loss last week. I have been making better food choices which is good. Now I just need to get back to adult sized calories. Kind of annoying 🙄6 -
@conleywoods
No wonder you had such a big loss indeed! 950 calories is not a good number - I know it is easy to get wildly differing numbers on the same food, but even so, that sounds like way too little food. Glad you had the pizza!
@PlaneMonkey
She's right. You do not want spaghetti. Step away from the spaghetti...
I have been enjoying staying as close as I can to the goals of the zero c.r.a.p. challenge this week so far. Sticking with whole foods as much as possible is always a good way to get back on track for me. I made a wonderful vegetarian chili yesterday and have it over a big bed of steamed kale. So yummy, and it is a good big bowlful of food for dinner. I did get too hungry during the night last night, though, so tonight I had some applesauce that I had made a few days ago. It has some sugar in it, but not too much.
OK gang - the Wednesday people are up for weigh-ins next! It's a big gang -

Hiya - please excuse me from this week if possible. I've been sick for the last week and am still in the thick of it; not ready to add the scale back into the mix. Sorry ):3
-
@PlaneMonkey AGAIN, you do not want the spaghetti. You do not want the spaghetti. 🤗😉
@conleywoods Wow, Kristi! That’s really strange that WW would have you eating 950 calories. You are right. Waaaay too low. When I was on, a while ago, the calories even using points was between 1200-1500, which is sensible. Glad you know enough to listen to your body and checked those calories.
My day went pretty well. My calories are between 1200-1300. So that’s a good place to be, I think. I ran out to Costco (disappointing trip, as apparently people are hoarding toilet paper again for some reason). When I came home, I was kind of hungry. I thought about grabbing the first thing I could get my hands on. BUT…I heard all of your voices. I had this instead and it was so yummy!!!
The peanut butter is FABULOUS! From Fix & Fogg called Everything Butter. All kinds of seeds and goodies in it.
Dinner was kind of funny. It was only hubby and me. He was cooking himself Corned Beef Hash 😬 I made a salad and was going to have an old Lean Cuisine meal that was in my freezer. Well, his ended up less than optimal and the noodles in mine were gross 🤢. So I put the meatballs in my salad and that was dinner. Probably the lamest meal we’ve had in two years. Oh well. I stayed under my calories. I may have a healthy snack later.
I wasn’t quite at my step goal, so I did 15 minutes of Leslie Sansome and about 10 minutes of ball bouncing until I hit my goal. So yeah, got some cardio in.
Overall, a good day!6 -
@micki48 OH my that snack looks amazing!
Exercise for today - 10554 steps + 20 mins yoga + 20 mins Peloton
Bike is set up and we both took it for a test drive.. we are going to love it.
Just got back from an indulgent dinner. We are in a celebration mode it seems. I must turn it around tomorrow and salvage things a bit. I am still happy with better decisions overall than old me (focus on exercise, not indulging outside the special meal, etc.) but I've been on solid loss mode for so many months now that it's hard not to feel a bit of gulp about some of the lack of control.5 -
Thank you everyone, the spaghetti is still in the fridge, untouched!
Luckily I go to bed early.
CW 195.6lbs
@micki48 those apples look yummy, too bad your dinner was a disappointment. I never have fruit in the house as I'm not a sweets person and I've always treated fruit as a "waste of calories" since they tend to have lots of natural sugars. I'd rather eat a piece of cheese, but that picture is making my want to give apples another chance. They deserve better!
@ashleycarole86 enjoy that bike! I love watching the commercials for them, but not enough to carve out the space in my home for one. We have an elliptical in the corner of the bedroom for Hubby but his tennis elbow has prevented him from using it like he had hoped.
I did just get a new Kettlebell so I hope to get to home workouts again soon. I might have to change up my plan of getting it done immediately after work as daylight is becoming a limited commodity, so if I can find a way to do it after dinner while I would normally be vegging on the couch, it would probably be better for all of my goals. Daylight definitely helps with yardwork. and if I can carve out more time, I can even try to get on board with a full EPIC workout! That would be fantastic.
I'm seeing a physio for the weakness and pain in my left hip and she's traced it back to a combination of being born with a displaced hip (socket didn't fully form before birth) and an injury to my lower back (L4/L5 disc) in 2017 that I got while doing deadlifts. My right hip and lower back are tight and not moving properly and my left knee has been weak since a few childhood soccer injuries, so my left hip is the fuse that's now giving out. It's mostly noticeable when I'm carrying heavy objects down a set of stairs, and when I try to put a sock on my right foot while standing. I topple over! hopefully the appointment today goes well and she can give me more exercises to do to line everything back up.
Ohh, I'm going to see if they load, but here are the two decks we spent the entire summer rebuilding from scratch:
Enjoy your Wednesday everyone!

@DD265 I made Smokey Orange Chicken bake last night Very tasty! But just like the ridiculous restaurant portion sizes in the US, they also sell us 'Frankenchicken' chicken breasts - the one breast I used was 527 grams - huge! The sweet potatoes were big too. I weighed it all and used the MFP Recipe calculator. I ended up calling it 6 portions which calculated to 403 calories/portion. Thanks for the inspiration - I liked the seasoning and the addition of the orange!
@micki48 I was recommended to a farm for applepicking ('tis the season) but really wasn't too enthusiastic because I would want to make sugary apple desserts with vanilla ice cream...why sabotage myself!? But your snack photo has given me another thought I can compare the various apples as simply a snack. I do like applesauce but wouldn't buy apples to make it...can buy it unsweetened (doesn't need sugar) from Aldi for cheap. And I'd recommend it as your alternative to ice cream - it is surprisingly refreshing. I too am an icecream fiend (must stop thinking of the local dairy's 'apple pie ice cream' - somehow you can even taste pastry in it - so good). Applesauce! a good friend.
@PlaneMonkey Willpower! I did not successfully will myself out for a walk last evening - was happy when I got to bed to see that I was 2 steps over my 9,000 step goal. I'll aim to take the evening walk when back at work when I'm sitting all day - that's when I really need it.
@conleywoods at 950 calories, MFP won't even let you close out your day without a warning....good that you tracked it to see. 950 not sustainable or even wanted - you are a busy woman - you need more energy than that!

@PlaneMonkey
the decks came out GORGEOUS! you must be so pleased. well done! (and w/ the spagetti too )

Absolutely no problem - I hope you feel better SOON.1 -
Happy Wednesday!
Sunshine at last. It has been mighty grey lately, and this morning the fall colours are popping! I'll hike up to our highest point on our land today to see the long views and all the oranges and reds everywhere.
@PlaneMonkey
Will you and yours come and rebuild my deck next summer? I want one JUST like yours Those are fabulous. And you resisted the spaghetti and had a green weigh-in! How good is that?
@micki48
We had the same snack yesterday - except your everything butter looks way better than my plain old almond butter. I love apples with smeared whatever on them. Even tahini is good if you're looking for almost savoury, but my fave is always sunflower seed butter. I have an apple every single morning chopped up in my yogurt (along with some blueberries and 8 almonds), and then sometimes one for a snack too. Luckily I have homegrown apples that are amazing, so this time of year I eat apples a lot. They don't keep very well, so applesauce goes into the freezer, and I make a lot of jelly that I don't even eat. It is my daughter's favourite thing, and the tall guy eats a lot of it too.
@ashleycarole86
Good job on holding the line! But yeah - the slippage can be scary after a long run of steady losses. Your own voice is saying to keep it at that celebratory meal and then step back - let our voices join yours!
North Carolina people! I know of @micki48 but are there others? I'm going to be there for a few days soon, and then my sister @EvMakesChanges will be there for even longer. Our mom is in Matthews (near Charlotte) and it has been almost 2 years since we saw her in person. It is time to get our butts down there, so it is finally happening! She is 91 and a great example of staying in shape as you age. Can't wait. I'll be there from the 26th to the 30th - not long, but then Ev will be there longer afterwards. Let's hope we can find a way to meet in person!5 -

Steps and exercise for Monday:
10,692 steps
13 minutes Pilates
45 minutes exercise bike moderate (but sweaty!)
Tuesday:
13,722 steps
30 minutes Pilates
45 minutes exercise bike moderate2 -
Welcome Wednesday!! Started the day with 21 minutes of Pilates. (and also window watching the two Golden Retriever puppies my neighbor has gotten recently.)
@jugar How exciting!! Glad you and Evelyn will finally get to see your mom. I would love to meet up. Of course, my daughter starts back to work on the 25th which means I am on Mom Mom duty, but we will figure something out for sure. Oh how we would love to pick apples from our yard. Please post some photos of your beautiful fall colors. Our Dogwoods are bit red, but I miss those gorgeous Maples. Not too many down here in NC.
@PlaneMonkey Courtney, your decks and stairs are BEAUTIFUL!!! Oh how I would love to sit on that deck looking over the lake and have my coffee every morning. You are a lucky (and understandably tired) person. Enjoy all your hard work. What a feat! Also, good for you for resisting that spaghetti. Way to go!! There are so many good things in fruit. I wish you would reconsider them as wasted calories. Berries in particular have so many benefits. I probably eat fruit at almost every meal. Keeps me regular too.
@eggfreak I want to try the orange chicken too. Good to know about the portions. You are so good about inputting whole recipes to have an accurate count. Thanks for the apple sauce suggestion. I will keep that in mind. I do love Aldi too.
Juliet is coming over for half of the day today while her mommy gets some errands done. I didn't have her yesterday and miss her already, so glad she is coming. LOL
Have a great day everyone!2 -
@micki48 I do enjoy strawberries and raspberries and the occasional peach, so not all fruit is bad in my books, I just can't stand anything of the melon variety and blueberries are just too chewy! I know I'm strange. Hubby and his family love layered cakes with fruit and custard for desserts at special events and it definitely helps me stay in my calorie range on those occasions cause I'd rather eat ANYTHING else.
I did finally eat the spaghetti sauce with konjac pasta for lunch so I think this was a good compromise! Got the flavour I was craving but without the extra carbs/calories.
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the decks, it was quite an adventure building them. There's still a lot of other work left on the property so I unfortunately won't be available to help with your deck build next summer @jugar 😉 I am jealous you get to hike around your property so much. The Eastern Townships are gorgeous this time of year! We considered getting married at the top of Jay Peak in October just to get the looks of the leaves for our photos.

I know I should be happy over my loss, BUT....I thought it would be higher.
@micki48 We have had an issue with Costco running out of TP too!!! I don't get it. That apple looks yummy!!!
@ashleycarole My friends love their bike. I am considering getting the new Beachbody one...
@planemonkey that looks amazing! Good job putting the spaghetti back.
I hope everyone is having a great mid week!6 -
@planemonkey the decks look fabulous - well worth the effort.
@eggfreak I'm glad you enjoyed it! We get large chicken fillets from the butcher too - though not quite that big - and really should start removing the 'mini fillet' from them before they get frozen.
Finally got to go out with Dad today. This does mean I'm way over my calorie goal as we went to TGI Fridays, but it is what it is. Will have another meal (or two) out at the weekend with Mom as we're out for the day on Saturday. OH and I have the house to ourselves until Friday, then various guests Friday-Monday, before being on our own for... well, the rest of the year based on our current plans! I'm sure something will crop up, but whilst I've really enjoyed having time with Dad, I am so looking forward to quiet and calm and totally planned out. *and breathe*
We're trying a new recipe tomorrow - Moroccan Lamb Burgers - then on Friday we're having an old faithful - beef Rogan Josh but it's bulked out with butternut squash and cauliflower. May also add some carrots. I love it! Need to decide whether to make or buy the naan to go with; one simply cannot have a curry without naan bread. In the freezer I've also got sausage meat and pastry to make sausage rolls, but my worry is if I make them I'll end up scoffing the lot. I may have to make and then freeze them cooked (as the ingredients are already frozen). Perhaps next time I should make them but freeze raw, then I can just bake a couple as and when I want them.3 -
That’s a wrap. I have closed out my diary. Was under but a bit higher than yesterday. 1600 ish calories. I did have a glass of red wine with dinner and two cheese and crackers while cooking. That will do it. But no ice cream! None so far this month!
I made spaghetti squash with chicken and Parmesan for dinner. It was pretty good. Now on to the acorn squash I bought. Recipes anyone?
I did 25 minutes of exercise ball bouncing to get to my step goal. I was at about 5,500 after dinner and though, nah don’t want to get to my 8k. Too tired. But somewhere I found the motivation. I heard “just do this” coming from all of you.
🙏🏼 Thanks

@PlaneMonkey Hope physio went well today. Very wise to be looking after these things like you are. As everyone else has said, beautiful photos.. your property looks absolutely amazing.
@jugar Killing it with exercise... great stats coming in! Keep on inspiring us!
@micki48 Exercise ball bouncing.. is that what I think it is? I am picturing something we used to do in gym class as kids, I'm either bang on or way far off... google Kangaroo Bouncer or Space Hopper on Amazon... now I'm thinking I must be wrong but it's conjured up an image of a whole lot of fun anyway! With Juliet... who knows what you're up to Anyway, great job pushing to your goal tonight.. super impressive. Also, that sounds like good news about your daughter returning to work... I take it this was the job you were mentioning before that she's not necessarily thrilled about but taking to get back to something? Hope it works out well for her. Also, LOVE acorn squash.. I never do anything that amazing with it, just love it baked. Good choice.
Exercise 10/6 -
20 minutes Peloton and 7642 steps
Well, today was fun. Brad and I have had a gift card for a couples massage at a neat place called the Kananaskis Nordic Spa for a couple years now, and today was finally the day. After the massage we got access to the pools and steam rooms and saunas... it was a lovely day of relaxation.
I ate well to plan today - I am still expecting to be up tomorrow, but hoping to be down from the last few days at least. Who knows though - the scale is a mysterious thing. We are on the road for 11 hours tomorrow driving to my Dad's, will squeeze in a ride before we go.2 -

Happy Thursday!
Another sunny warmish day today - the mist is starting to burn off after a cold night, and with the colours it is beautiful out there. I'll post a photo later today, promise!
@gak71
Smiling with you - getting back on track after some slippage sure feels great. I have been cleaning up my act this week too, and even though I'm hungry a lot, I know that will settle down soon. I was getting a bit carried away over the past month or two, so there is a bit of adjustment back to where I really need to be portion-wise. As my husband often says, "The more you eat, the more you eat!". Sad but true. But it really, really feels good when you get off that particular train. WTG!!
@bowens1973
Still stepping away from 200! Excellent
and @ashleycarole86
Holding your own in spite of a tiny splash of red to decorate your long green streak. Get on that Peloton and you'll be fine! I don't envy your 11 hour drive, though. Those are brutal. Get out and do squats and stretches whenever you can!
@AshenMoon
Yes! You are back in the green and feeling that wonderful feeling too. Good one!
Out and at it - have a good one7 -
Thanks @jugar ... got up and hit the bike and took my dog for a walk before we left and will do exactly as you said.. legs will be stretched and I'll take any movement I can along the way. Brought my yoga mat and will be doing that and walking for exercise while I'm away.
Looking for green this next week- let's do this!!6 -
@PlaneMonkey the decks are AMAZING! Your whole neighborhood looks awesome. And I am just like you on fruit - despise melons and can't do blueberries (unless baked into something, with other fruit).
@micki48 someone in my neighborhood also has a golden retriever puppy, and someone else has a little baby corgi! I've been dying over them on my walks but trying not to actually whimper out loud because that is weird.
I am on incredibly low sleep, work is going to kick my BUTT this week, but I still got my walk in this morning. And this Saturday, my friend and I have tickets to a 3 hour live workout session with 2 personal trainers we know from instagram & the FitOn app (they are doing a little US tour of 6 cities, 1 workout with each of them back to back and then a dance party). I will be beat but we plan to get a nice brunch afterwards! Something to get me through these first difficult days of quarter-end.
Continuing the soup conversation, I am not always a fan but I love a good tomato - I am now obsessed with Campbell's Slow Kettle Tomato & Sweet Basil Bisque. Canned soups can be a bit much for sodium etc but this one is SO delicious. Really thick and great flavor, and I like to add a little Calabrian chili oil and some garlic powder. Had it yesterday and need to keep more cans on hand!2 -
@ashleycarole86 That is too funny!! I looked up what you were thinking. Hysterical!!
LOL
It actually looks more like this. And I just sit on it and bounce. I don't bounce around the room though! It's great for balance and core muscle strength and I usually get my heart rate up as well.
No walks here today except the stores we needed to run to. It is absolutely pouring!!! I started my day with 16 minutes of a gentle stretch pilates. It was nice. Food has been very good so far. Dinner is carnitas (processed, I know) so I'm going to have to be careful, especially with weigh in tomorrow. The scale has made me happy this week. Each day it goes down a tiny little bit. Hope that all holds on for tomorrow's weigh in.
The Peloton bike sounds like fun. The three hour workout does not. Glad to see everyone's posts. @jugar I'll be looking for those photos.
Be well, y'all!5 -
Super excited for Hockey tonight! First game of the new season with my 'mom's group'. There are some new names on the roster so I hope we got a great new bunch of ladies to join. It's lower intensity as all beginners are welcome as long as you have a basic understanding of how to skate, so it tends to be a lot of fun as we end up laughing as much as we fall down. It's going to be a late night as I now live nearly an hour from the rink and the game is well past my usual bedtime. It's worth it though when you find that group that you click with! Just like here. 😉

@PlaneMonkey the deck looks amazing and I really like the clear panels that keep the view open! I’ve been considering doing something similar with our deck.2
