Hockey was fun! We had 9 new players and they nearly ALL wanted to play forward! Even after the game we were able to hang out in the parking lot and catch up because the weather was so nice, even at midnight. I haven't been able to play with most of this group since before Christmas 2020 because of the curfew they instilled in Quebec due to Covid measures didn't allow me to cross into the neighbouring province where my league is past 8pm. It wasn't as fast paced as I would have liked, but I think I burned as many calories laughing as I did skating!
@gak71 Great loss! And yes, the glass panels on the railings are worth every penny. We had a 2x6 as the top rail before that and it was right at eye level while you were seated which blocked the entire view!
@Kali225 Progress over perfection, right? You stopped a binge which deserves a pat on the back. good job!
@ashleycarole86 The family pressure is the WORST! I usually get it from my spouse but always in a more passive aggressive fashion of him saying "lets eat (insert over-calorie dessert item)" and I reply "go ahead, but I don't want to have any, thanks" and his response is to not eat his treat but to also sulk cause my refusal is an acknowledgement it wasn't a healthy choice and he feels policed. Going out to eat isn't always about what you order, it can also be about the atmosphere of the restaurant and the added bonus of NOT HAVING TO DO THE DISHES!
@conleywoods You're smart to share your thoughts but not make firm decisions until you're in a better head space.
@DD265 Heart Rate Tracking during training is so difficult, especially if there's a lag in the readings on your device. hopefully you find something that works. That recipe looks amazing, and lamb is on sale this week near us so I'm going to try to pick some up and give it a try!7 -
I forgot Yinka!! @YinxFed that breakfast looks divine! mmmmmmmmmmmmmm2

I worked for that one! Logged every day and under calories. Pilates every day. No π¨ or general refined sugar until my two cookies yesterday. Although I have to say, it doesnβt always work that way. Sometimes even after a great eating/exercising week, the scale can still disappoint.
Canβt even remember the last time I lost over a pound in a week!! I only usually gain that way. βΊοΈ6 -
I am up a little bit because of my workout yesterday but it should go away by next week

Congratulations @gak71 , @JohnPetelle , and @micki48 , those are amazing losses!! @micki48 , you're so close to onederland!
No gain or loss this week, so hopefully I'll have a big loss next week. The exercise has been especially difficult this week, hopefully it's just hormones π . Next week will be better.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! Mine's going to be pretty low-key. We probably won't see anyone or do anything. Although I am craving stuffing (dressing?) and gravy.8 -
FriYAY!!!
@YinxFed That frittata looks amazing! I'd love to sit and join you for breakfast. What fun that would be!
@jugar Your view is splendid! You are so lucky to wake up to that gorgeous view every day and have that wonderful property at your doorstep to hike on. I'd love to visit you too. But for now, meeting up here in NC when you come see your mom will have to do. Are you flying to CLT?
@PlaneMonkey So glad you had so much fun with hockey. Midnight wow! How great that you finally got to play with these people again after so long. Two things you said made me laugh, the 9 new players all wanting to play Forward and burning as many calories laughing as playing. Happy for you!
@gak71 and @ashleycarole86 Great losses both of you. There have been some great losses this week from the team.
@conleywoods Wow! Work seems to be very trying right now. That must be so difficult on top of dealing with covid. I really respect how thoughtful you are about your whole weight loss process. You will find the right decision for you. I just hope you'll stick around here in any case.
@DD265 Your training sounds very insightful. I'm glad you are able to learn so much about your body doing it. I've pretty much flown by the seat of my pants with exercise, but it would be exciting to know more about how to fine tune the process.
I am loving our team interactions lately. This is such a great bunch of people. So supportive with our celebrations and challenges. I would definitely not be where I am today if it were not for all of you, especially looking at you Liselyn! @jugar Just want you all to know I REALLY appreciate you and this community.
Have a great one everyone!

@kellie_erin Happy Thanksgiving! Will "Stovetop Stuffing" suffice? I know my mom makes it very different and I like them both, but sometimes you just need the real stuff to feel satisfied. My husband's family does a rice stuffing instead of bread and every holiday meal I spend with them I come away a little sad with nostalgia for the "real thing"
@micki48 keep it up!! I wish I had your dedication to Pilates. My bed wins out every time!4 -

Congratulations to everyone! Those are some amazing losses!
I feel like next week will be a gain because of Thanksgiving (Canadian) but I'm happy to be losing again. @kellie_erin - I wish I could spend the weekend with you and eat stuffing/dressing with gravy π€€.7 -
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who commented on my post of frustration last night. Your comments helped me a ton and the scale was nice to me this morning. A huge part of this journey for me is learning to look after myself first, to set boundaries, to be okay to say no. So thanks for the boost of strength everyone and the ideas on how to handle this situation.
Yesterday's exercise:
6480 steps + 20 minutes Peloton
Bit short on target but considering most of my waking hours were in the car, I'll take it.
@jugar Those fall colors are absolutely gorgeous. π₯°
@conleywoods Enjoy the fun day with the kids.. sounds like the break from work is well needed. How did the gingerbread houses turn out? Great activity.4 -
Oh my Friday people...you are CRUSHING the weight loss!!! Wow... great work4

Not terrible considering my calorie count being too low last week, work stress, time of the month and it was my husband's birthday so lots of treats around. More celebration this weekend plus all the gingerbread house Halloween treats π Loved the fall colors @jugar. We are getting some color here too, but not like you. It isn't called the evergreen state for no reason. We did get to the lake and enjoyed some color starting to pop up. Some pictures of the hills by the lake and me with the birthday boy! He enjoyed his 2 1/2 months of being younger than me.

What a lovely day of great conversations, beautiful photos (the smiles are brighter than the fall colours @conleywoods !), hilarious hockey, family frustrations, heart-rate highs n' lows, and stuffing! It is never dressing, sorry. It just isn't.
I'm totally enjoying my "free day" and eating anything I feel like, but after this last week and a bit of very careful "no c.r.a.p." whole foods eating, I actually picked up the gorgeous cheese bread at the bakery and put it back down again, knowing that it would feel icky 10 minutes after I ate it. I will be having some fresh apple crisp with maple ice milk later, though!
@micki48 I think we have both lost over a pound this week for the first time in donkeys' years because of this month's challenge. I know it has given me a boost in cutting back the sloppiness, and I was very surprised by the scale this morning. It is certainly never too late if anyone wants to join in, even if it is not every day.
Remember to keep up this momentum for week 2! It is always tricky to keep it going, so find those little things you can do to keep inspired and walking away from the bad choices.
uh oh - super cranky taller half who has had a frustrating day is needing some food and chat. It has NOT been a good one for him... I'll see if I can make him crazy for other reasons!5 -
@bowens1973 and @happimess01 I see you have both gotten down under 200, amazing job! As of now Iβd like to get to 220 and then reevaluate once Iβm there. Have either of you gone lower than what you had originally planned? It has been 30 years since I was under 200 so the thought of it seems unattainable at this point. Congratulations to both of you!5

@gak71 thanks for the kind words. Like you, it has been a lot of years since the scale registered a first digit of "1". I think the keys to success are really:
1) Be honest with your tracking food. We have a tendency to under estimate food.
2) Be honest with tracking exercise. There are tons of apps out there and there's a HUGE swing between them in terms of what they'll credit. I tend to go with 50% to 75% of what the app says and apply some common sense.
3) Don't demonize foods that you love. You deserve a treat occasionally and provided that you incorporate the calories in to your plan, you'll be fine.
4) Believe in the saying "Fail to plan, plan to fail". It's so true. We are currently on 3 weeks of vacation with tons of eating out and road trips. Ashley has been AMAZING at pre-planning all of her meals at the restaurants and staying in her limit, I've been winging it and have told myself that "maintaining" during vacation is good enough, but it's not. I could have done better. We are back to "real life" next Friday and will have complete control over portion size, ingredients, etc.
5) Find an exercise that you enjoy and master it. For me, it's cycling. I am 48 and can't expect to be better than someone 28, but I'm actively working towards being the very best that I can and competing against myself. But you can do that with literally anything - prior to my return to cycling my main goal was to improve my walking pace. Immediately after my hip surgery I was averaging 23 mins per kilometre and managed to get it down to 14 mins, but Ashley can do a kilometre in 10 mins. Keeping in mind, she's 13 years younger.
My plan is to get down to 150 lbs. This will be HARD as the "low hanging fruit" won't be enough. I'll need to be more careful with my choices but the same principles apply.
Let's be friends and encourage each other. I know you can do this. Even if you've failed before, as most of us have, this time is different. You want it more, and it means more, this time. Trust me, it feels soooo good!!!7 -
The Halloween gingerbread houses are complete! It took us most of the day to make the dough, bake the pieces, build the houses, eat candy and decorate. So fun. While we waited between steps we cleaned house, did laundry and set up the Halloween decorations.
