You did well! Not a big change - hang on and go for that one perfect day as soon as you can!1 -
Hey all! I will be so glad to get rid of all this food. I’m not feeling great from all this indulging. Funny how that doesn’t stop me. We still have cookies and stuff around. I’ve actually made myself some healthy salads between all the indulgent stuff to help me feel better. It makes me feel so sluggish. I feel like I’ve had more sugar this week than I’m the last few months. I need to get back on track to feel myself.
I had a bit of anxiety today thinking about all that lies ahead with a likely big life change. My husband is being so calm about it. I need to trust that things will fall into place the way they were meant to be.
My son got an Oculus today and we played a bit. It can get your heart rate up.
Aiming for a more perfect day tomorrow.5 -

Steps last week above, as you can see I had a very lazy Christmas day lol. I spent the weekend enjoying family and not eating great. Back on track today and hopefully all week minus new years eve.4

Brace yourself @jugar

I've had 3x 0.7kg jumps this week, though I've not weighed quite every day, so I'm fairly confident it'll disappear as fast as it came on when the time comes. That time is not this week, though I have definitely consumed (and received) less chocolate than I would normally over Christmas, we've had a few hefty main meals. I am enjoying myself though and not feeling guilty one bit.
@ashleycarole86 sorry for not getting these in yesterday, I hope they're not too late:
Sunday 19th - 3852
Monday 20th - 12291
Tuesday 21st - 6826
Wednesday 22nd - 3620
Thursday 23rd - 14219
Friday 24th - 8361
Saturday 25th - 1777
Saturday doesn't look too bad when considering that I've only done 551 so far today and it's 4.20pm! I've had quite a bit of admin to catch up on though, and have lot track of what day it is so just realised I missed going to feed the ducks at lunch time.
I am up before dawn to train tomorrow (that was not my idea lol), then it sounds like my mother and sister will be visiting, and we have the cinema in the evening, nothing planned Wednesday (more chores/prep for decorating), a day out with friends on Thursday which is cinema, crazy golf and food, then car tyre fitting Friday morning and our usual NYE buffet-for-two in the evening. Saturday, Sunday and Monday are still 'free' but I shall be aiming for a clean slate and 3 perfect days!3 -
I just joined today!
My name is Jenn. I am currently at the heaviest weight I have ever been, reaching into the overweight category. I love fitness and have been working out since I was 18 -- I am 41 now. I spent years as a body builder in my late 20s and early 30s. Now I live a sedentary lifestyle as an English professor. I'm a mom to a young child. I am a food addict and emotional eater, but have had a lot of successes with this in the last ten years, especially. Just wanted to say hey! See you in the January forum.7 -

@MandiSaysHey Looks good to me! Glad you got in some steps. Christmas and New Years are times of rest and introspection and celebration for me; so I don't count on too much from myself then, except to reap the joy that comes (and hopefully, some does). Cheers.3 -

Christmas is exhausting.
@eggfreak I hear you that "Christmas is exhausting." This year, we all felt it here more than most years. I just take it as it comes!

Welcome! I am sure you'll be able to find ways to create a better balance and address the emotional eating. I hit my highest weight after having kids and working as a professor as well - it is possible to wrestle it back down! Food is a pleasure, and working out how to keep enjoying while not endangering health is a great project we are all working on together. Looking forward to getting to know you!
In a few days, when the official January challenge starts (on Sunday), we generally all re-introduce ourselves and set the kinds of goals and commitments we might have for the month. It is all an experiment - some things work, some don't, but it is worth the failures to find the things that work for you. Since you're here a bit early, don't hesitate to ask any questions that might come to you, and let us know more about anything you'd like to share. Go back to the first page of this chat thread if you want to get the general info and read some of the introductions. Tally ho!4 -
@metaphysicalstudio Jenn! It is great to see you on the full group challenge and jumping right in to the team. WTG!3

Hi, @jugar. Thank you for the warm welcome. I would like to post my daily exercises for accountability. Do I just post it here, like you did above? It might look like:
Dec 27: 33 minutes of chest and tricpes; 21 minutes step climber
Does that format work well enough? Could I include calories or steps? What is needed to be counted toward the group tally? Looks like some do steps, and I don't see many posting calories.

Happy Tuesday!
I am devouring the book The End of Craving by Mark Schatzker (he says the book has no calories...) - it is amazing so far. I have never seen a clearer explanation of the brain and body connections that drive wanting (craving) and liking (pleasure), and how what we eat changes those complex processes. Liking and wanting are two different brain zones, one embedded in the other, and they are exquisitely calibrated to the food that goes through our digestive system to communicate what needs to happen to those foods, including shutting off the wanting because the body has received enough. The whole thing gets out of whack, but I have not yet gotten to the parts where he talks about how to get it back on track. In any case, if you enjoy science-based writing on eating, this one is a delight to read -- there is no hype, and no overblown nonsense. I'll keep you posted if he discloses the secret to diet perfection!7 -

That looks great, and go ahead and add steps as well. My co-captain @ashleycarole86 keeps track of the exercise stats and makes amazing reports every week. She has a formula to convert exercise minutes to an equivalent number of steps so that those who are tracking steps and those who are doing other forms of exercise (or both) all get tracked together. She is happy with daily, weekly, or whatever reporting rhythm works best for you.3 -
Thanks! Is it January yet!? I am ready to go! 🥳3
-
@metaphysicalstudio Glad to have you joining up! As @jugar said, daily steps + all activity minutes will be counted. If you are someone that has a daily step pledge (keeping in mind your activities will be converted to steps), give me that as well as I do report stats based on consistency!
12/27 exercise:
21 minutes indoor cycling + 31 minutes yoga + 5413 steps3 -
I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm afraid I may be showing a gain for the 2nd week in a row. 😭 These darn holidays got the best of me. I've got my meals planned out and healthy today and drinking lots of water. We'll see what my actual weigh in looks like tomorrow. 😬5

Almost!! We will switch over to our January team chat thread on Saturday, and the weigh-ins for week 1 begin on Sunday. Which day of the week will you be using to weigh in? You can always change it later, but I'll need a day for you. Thanks!MandiSaysHey wrote: »I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm afraid I may be showing a gain for the 2nd week in a row. 😭 These darn holidays got the best of me. You are FAR from alone. It is normal - this is a great time of the year to let go for a couple of weeks - as long as it does not drag on for much longer You have made your plan, you will have better days, and even if tomorrow is not your fave number, soon you'll be back on track. You've got this!3 -
@jugar Friday is my day.4

@metaphysicalstudio just so you know - and anyone else who does not -
When I or @ashleycarole86 click "Insightful" on your post reporting a weight, exercise minutes, or anything we need to enter on the spreadsheet - that means we did it. It helps us know which things we have done or not, since our brains are not always.... you know....4 -

hey you, I am a member of Waistaways as well. Small world eh? And I didn't know you use to be a bodybuilder, that is amazing!5 -
So many cool things today - Jenn and Sam know each other? Spill @happimess01 and @metaphysicalstudio we need to hear it all.
I had my first snowshoeing outing of the season today. It was fabulous! Mind you, I had to stop and "admire the view" rather often (aka "deep breathing") but it went really well! I guess all the hill walking lately has helped get the aerobic capacity at least within reasonable distance. It was gorgeous out there today. I'm skipping the exercise bike tonight...
I'm venturing out into the world tomorrow morning to get a few groceries before there are many folks out and about. Getting back to high fibre, lots of veg, and no refined stuff after a good holiday blowout feels great. I hope everyone is doing well!5 -
