HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Hi all and welcome to the Downsizers December team chat! My name is Linda and I am one of the team captains. My counterpart is the amazing Megan aka @Megan_smartiepants1970.
I am originally from Newfoundland but I live in Southwestern Ontario. I am 57 years old, married, retired due to a disability and have 3 adult children. I also have 4 beautiful granddaughters. Two live here in Ontario and the other two in Scotland. I am planning a trip there in April. My granddaughters are one of my reasons for trying to get healthy. I have two very fat cats, Nick and Lady.
I started my weight loss journey in February 2019 and have been with F2F since the beginning. I have had a couple of ups and downs since starting but I have never given up. I have a bad back and neuropathy so my exercise is limited to mostly swimming and workouts in the pool.
I am not going to set a weight goal for December.
My goals for December
1. Close the rings on my Apple Watch daily
2. Meet step goal
3. Stay within calorie goal
4. Get the December challenge badge of 23 workouts for the month

Can someone please explain how I can only do weights for less than 10 minutes and be super sore? 🤷♀️ My shoulders and biceps are particularly sore. I still managed a decent swim yesterday. If my granddaughter doesn’t go home too late I will head to the pool for a quick swim. My son is coming today to cook supper for us tonight so I want to tidy up before they get here. I will not be accurate with my calories as I will be using a generic entry for the shepherds pie he is making.
Happy Sunday!

Okies time for my into:
I'm 43yr old female (about to turn 44 end of Dec). I live in South Australia with my partner and 4 British Bulldogs (I breed them). I've struggled with my weight and self esteem all my life, I went from the skinny rake who got teased for having no boobs in high school, to always feeling like the fat one in my group of friends. I've never felt beautiful or comfortable in my own skin, though looking back at photos now I weep to think how good I looked in my early 20s and I didn't know it.
I have chronic depression and have suffered from migraines since my late teens, I comfort eat and drink because it was always the easiest way to get a quick fix and feel good. At my heaviest I was 115kg (253.5 lbs), and in desperation I ended up getting a lap band. This helped me get down to 95kg (209.4lbs) but I didn't really change any of my eating habits and continued to binge on chips, chocolate and booze.
In late Oct this year, one night I had a horrible burning pain near my sternum which just wouldn't go away, I thought it might be trapped gas from the band, and because I'd had a similar incident about 6 month prior I thought I'd just have to breathe/walk it out. As time went on though it got to a completely unbearable level of pain. At 3am I woke up my partner and said "I don't know what this is, but it isn't stopping you have to take me to hospital". Several hours later doped up on pain meds they sent me home saying I probably passed a gallstone and needed to go to my doctor for an ultrasound. Well the ultrasound discovered that gallstones weren't the issue but I have fatty liver disease and basically my liver is so enlarged from the fat that it's causing me pain. My blood tests came back with normal liver functions (which is why it hadn't been picked up until now), which thankfully means that so far I haven't done any permanent damage and I should be able to 100% reverse this with a lot of hard work.
I was 93kg (205 lbs) when I had the pain attack, and started turning my diet around straight away, I never want to feel that level of pain again! Soon after I joined Downsizers and got a book dedicated to diets that reverse fatty liver disease. I'm now 87 kg (191.8 lbs) and my ultimate goal is to get to 70kg (154.3 lbs). Though you can be skinny and still have fatty liver disease so I'm hoping to get another ultrasound in about 6 months time and see some improvement.
I find healthy eating really challenging because I really don't like vegetables and I constantly crave fatty foods. However I've found being a part of this group very motivating and really appreciate all the encouragement that our group motivators give us. I don't have a weight goal for the month, just want to keep inching my way towards my final goal.
Thanks guys and here's to another good month!5 -
Went diving today. I always forget how much I love to dive. The water was 58*f which is cold but with proper gear it was great. 45min swimming. I have been starving ever since 😜. What is it about water that makes the appetite grow!3

OMG I'm so jealous, only been diving a couple of times in my life but I loved it! Also terrifying because I have a phobia about deep water and sharks but still love it!!3 -
@Pippin20206
I have problems with deep drop offs and yes sharks. I actually volunteered at the local aquarium as a diver and got over some of my fear as the tank I dove had 10 sharks in it. Just staying calm and keeping your heart rate steady they ignore you. Like a dog they sense fear. I have been diving for 30+ years and am married to someone who is a commercial diver... We get wet anytime we have the chance. Remember it is winter here in the United States and I am diving. Although kayaking is a second favorite thing. I can't wait to combine the two in Florida this spring.

It's up to you if you want to checkin daily and if you do, it's up to you what you want to post about.2 -
So part of my book about fatty liver is a section written by a Dr who has a food addiction and was diagnosed with fatty liver and it's all about his struggles to get healthy etc. But I just read a sentence that really struck me. While he says he would never try to say what kind of addiction is the hardest to break, he notes that having a food addiction is the one addiction where you actually have to partake of that addiction (food) every day whilst still trying to maintain control. He said imagine if an alcoholic was told they HAD to drink a couple of mls of alcohol every day but never have more than that!
An honestly I wanted to have a little cry. It was so good to hear an acknowledgement of how hard it is to constantly be watching everything I eat and try to make good judgements when every time I get hungry I just want to belly flop face first into a buffet trough!4
