@martaindale could your shoes be too tight? I get weird pains like that if I do my shoe laces too tight. Hope it sorts out1

Whether this is part of the problem or not, I hope you get it worked out!0 -
It's finally raining! Headed out at 6:30 in light drizzle. So hot and super muggy, I felt like I couldn't breathe properly. Consequently, my time was very slow. However, the aim of the day was a little more distance and seeing how my ankle coped with that and a few hills. Conclusion: It was great. We'll see how it feels later on this afternoon.4

@martaindale - - I usually get shin splints when my calves get super tight maybe it could be something similar just a bit further down your leg? I also typically get tight calves and the subsequent shin splints when I am due for new shoes. If you have another pair in your rotation maybe try and see if you continue to have the issue?
@rheddmobile I love your raccoon stories! you are right though that it can be dangerous for them when they become so accustomed to people being nice to them.
On the news last night they reported 100k people without power in Memphis and I immediately thought of you and was hoping you were among them! I am so happy you aren't.
I did do some yoga yesterday and then when out for what I thought would only be a mile or two with the Vizsla. The wind wasn't as bad as it was earlier in the week so we ended up with a nice run.
Today I got out earlier and it was already warm. There was just a little breeze but the sun was just hot. I think I over did the yoga (is that possible?) yesterday. It felt so good but I am so sore today! I did the 60/30 run/walk intervals I have been doing as much as possible but my hamstrings were not happy for most of the run. I felt like I was plodding along but I seem to be getting a little faster finally. I even had a mile well under 13min pace. I am really happy to finally be seeing some improvements. I am up to 14.80 miles for the month so far and we head off to Zion in the morning. I am hoping for some short runs there and taking all my gear but will have to see how it is when we get there.
Also there was a lady on the trail with an Australian Shepard puppy maybe - guessing it was maybe 2. It was cute and playful but she was letting it run around off leash. The first time we approached her she grabbed the dog and leashed it but the next time she was just standing in the middle of the trail while the dog ran around. I yelled at her and she just walked away still with the dog off leash. I didn't want to run by her dog, especially between her and her dog, with Hobbes. So I yelled at her multiple times to put her dog on leash. She finally did and we were able to run by. I just don't understand people like that who are so clueless about their own dogs as well as everyone else who is out on the trail.

@rheddmobile The raccoon story had me and my husband laughing! Crazy raccoon!!@martaindale could your shoes be too tight? I get weird pains like that if I do my shoe laces too tight
I considered this. I have noticed my lacing is getting tighter. Not sure why. Today I loosened them way up. It may have been a contributing factor but I'm not sure if I can blame the laces entirely.
@shanaber Off leash dogs are one of my biggest pet peeves! I have several shoes of varying ages in rotation so I don't think I can blame the shoes. But, I'm always down for a reason to get a new pair!2 -
@rheddmobile Glad you enjoyed your rest days and taking one today to avoid ice falling on your head is a smart move. I hope you power stays on and you get out for a run tomorrow. Funny about the cymbals and dancing. You'll get there.
Glad you got out for a walk @kgirlhart . I hope you continue to feel better.
@ContraryMaryMary Glad your ankle behaved and you got in a good hilly run.
@shanaber You are doing great with those intervals. Enjoy your trip to Zion. Will be looking forward to seeing some pictures. I don't understand people and their dogs either. I guess she was sure he wouldn't cause trouble, but she doesn't know what other dogs will do. I'm glad you finally got her to put it on leash.
I have felt a little funky today. My blood pressure is lower than normal, for some reason, so that may be it. I almost passed out once when I got up too fast from the couch. So, to be on the safe side, I didn't do my planned run today. I did walk a mile on the treadmill and did my back exercises.5 -

Sunny, upper teens F, and a light breeze from the south. Still some spots with ice and/or packed snow, but not too bad overall. Saw robins eating crabapples and a pair of doves as well.5 -
@martaindale hope your foot pain resolves. I've had some pain in my right foot since getting my new shoes. They feel great while I'm wearing them but the pain is on top and side of my foot when I take them off after a run. I'm wondering about tightness of lacing too.
@rheddmobile glad you still have power. The raccoon is hilarious, nothing to look at here, I'm just another people going in the door. I was thinking about you and your heart issue because my (hesitate to say the word boyfriend because it's sort of new, but ok... I'll say it to you guys ) is having some heart racing issues. He's been thoroughly checked out in the past and they can't seem to find anything wrong. But he's at urgent care this morning with another episode last night where it races and then he's wiped out an exhausted. Probably not the same thing but I thought of your frustration and how scary it is not to know what's going on with your heart - which is kinda important for your existence!
And @quilteryoyo similarly thinking of you and hope you are feeling better today! Definitely take it easy.

Friends, I'm officially in a slump I think. Busy, stressed, and tired so running seems like the last thing I want to do in this hideous weather. We had a big snowstorm Thursday night through Friday night and I ran on the treadmill a bit on Thursday morning but didn't get out to run again until today. And it was stupidly cold again in the single digits. I was grumpy and worried and everything felt like a total slog. So when some people stopped at 4 miles I was done too. Slow + whiny = shiny? Slow + cranky = slanky?3 -
@katharmonic it may well be the same thing, as I understand it mine is the most common cause of repeated tachycardia in adults. Basically the heart has an extra electrical pathway and if it gets off track it doesn’t fill before beating, so it doesn’t get much done, so it does it again, faster and faster. Meanwhile there is nothing mechanically wrong with the heart. And it does leave you feeling trashed afterwards. I can only assume it’s literally muscle exhaustion from beating so fast but it feels terrible for a couple of days afterwards. Hoping they find out what’s wrong and fix it, and good luck with the new relationship! Tell him about the valsalva thing, it does help. Also, I had ZERO help at the ER and then an actual cardio was like, oh it’s this. So it seems to be touch and go hitting the right person to diagnose. It seems kinda stupid that it would be hard to diagnose the most common cause, but hey, it took them ten years to give me a simple ana test to diagnose lupus.
@quilteryoyo Take care of yourself, hope you feel better!

@katharmonic Those look and sound like good words.1

@quilteryoyo Take it easy. I hope you feel better soon!
@martaindale hope your foot pain goes away quickly.
@kgirlhart glad you are starting to feel better.
@rheddmobile your raccoon sounds adorable! But I know they can be a menace. Hope he stays friendly.
13.1 miles this afternoon. Such beautiful weather. Kind of fun dodging all the ice patches (most of the time successful 😏). After starting with a slow 10 minute mile, surprised the rest of the miles were around 9 minutes or under. Legs felt unusually good today.

Nice running @Tramboman . Love to hear about the wildlife you see.
Thanks @katharmonic . I hope your boyfriend is okay and they can find out what is going on with him. (I hope this guy is good for you and you enjoy his company.) I like shiny best. Puts a positive vibe on a not so positive run, but just getting out there and doing it is a huge plus so it deserve a positive sounding word as a descriptor.
Thanks @rheddmobile !
Thanks @Scott6255 . Sounds like you had a great run and I hope those ice patches that you weren't able to dodge were good to you.
I am feeling better, but I'm considering getting an appointment with my PC to see if he thinks I need to get some tests run....I've also had some double vision a couple of times in the last couple of months. It doesn't last long, but is very disconcerting and something new.
I decided to take today as my planned rest day and walk rather than run. I did walk a mile on the driveway since it was so nice out - sunny, no breeze, 45°F. Today was one of those days when my HR decides to be high, just from walking. Granted, it was up and down hills, but an average of 157bpm for a 3.6 mph walk is a bit much for me.

February Goal: 30 Miles
2/6: 2.26 miles
2.26/30 miles completed for February
I finally got out for a run today. It was a slow and short run, just 2.25 miles, but it felt really good to feel like getting out and running again. The weather was really nice, still pretty chilly and there were still some patches of snow and a few slick spots on the street. But the sun was shining and it just felt nice to want to run again. I decided that I will set my goal for February at 30 miles. That is quite a bit lower than my usual 100, but it is a short month and I have already missed a week. Plus I am going to try to ease back in so I am going to plan to have some shorter runs this month. Maybe I will surpass this goal, but maybe not and I don't want to push it too hard until I am sure I really feel better.
Sounds like a checkup is a good idea @quilteryoyo . Hopefully you can get it all sorted out and get to feeling better.

I’ve been skimming this week but haven’t commented. I hope everyone who had winter storms is going ok now. I hope everyone who has been feeling poorly is feeling better now as well.
I had shorter runs every night during the work week, then a 10K yesterday, and 2 miles this morning. It was a busy week at work, and my birthday week, so I had a lot going on, but I did keep up my streak!
I ate a lot of food this week, so I need to eat better for the next few days so I don’t feel like crud for my 15K on Saturday.
February miles: 12.47
Streak days: 376 -
Hope you had a Happy Birthday @marisap2010!0

Happy Birthday @marisap2010 !! Hope you had a wonderful week!
@quilteryoyo - I am worried about you! As soon as you said you were getting so dizzy when you stood up alarms started going off in my mind. Please get checked out!
No run for me today. We got up and out pretty early and got into Springdale, UT just outside Zion National Park around 5pm and too late to go exploring. It is pretty cold here for us but oh so beautiful! Picture under the split of the view from our hotel room deck. I wish it were warm enough to have a glass of wine or even a cup of coffee on the deck but instead we sat inside and looked out. Even Hobbes loves it - he is just invigorated and fascinated with all the new sights and smells!

I hope you had a great birthday @marisap2010 ! Sounds like a very hectic week.
Thanks @shanaber . I am going to call and try to get an appointment for later in the week. Enjoy your time in Utah. Zion is such a beautiful park.

Cold but uneventful run this morning. I met a friend at 5:00 am and it was 25F. My legs got cold today. I should have worn a thicker pair of pants.
Happy Birthday @marisap2010!
Oh that sky @shanaber! So beautiful!! I just scheduled a hiking/backpacking trip for October in Zion, Bryce and Escalante. I hope you are having a great time!

Happy birthday @marisap2010!
That is a beautiful view @shanaber! I have heard such good things about Zion and would love to see it myself. Can't wait to see more pics!
@quilteryoyo I hope your check-up goes ok. With your history it pays to be cautious. But to temper your anxiety, this may be nothing serious. I get dizzy and blurred vision if I stand up too fast pretty frequently. It's just a side effect of a low resting heart rate and BP on the lower side. A couple cups of coffee fixes me right up! And I just stand up slowly now. If people take beta blockers (other meds can also be the culprit but beta blockers are common and cause a lower HR and BP), they can get these symptoms too. So, get a professional opinion from someone familiar with your history but don't stress too much about it just yet.
1 -
Great running @Teresa502 . It was cold this morning.
Thanks @martaindale . I am taking a beta blocker. I think part of it could be my BP but the double vision and visual migraines are of concern. I have an appointment with my primary care doctor on Friday afternoon. I'll see what he thinks.3 -
Great job everyone keeping on pace to reach your goals. One week down, three to go!
Today was a great day. Lunch run, 47 degrees and sunny. Still had to dodge some ice patches. I felt like I could have gone 5 miles but had to get back to work.

Shoe porn!
Been getting niggles so new shoes are necessary. These are the gel kayano 28s. So so comfy! Can't wait to try them tomorrow6 -
Love the shoes @Avidkeo . I hope you have a great run in them.
I actually got up early today so I could get my run in before leaving for work. I didn't have to be there until noon, so that helped. I walked a mile - total - for warm up and cool down at 3.8 mph and then did a fast finish run. I did a run/walk where I ran/walked at 4.2/4x(4.5/3.8)/5.5 mph for 5/4x(4/1)/5:29 minutes. That averaged 13:15 min/mile, so not too bad. I also did my back exercises. I was glad I did it this morning.5 -

Thank you, @rheddmobile. That makes a lot of sense how you describe it and it sounds like what he's experiencing - but he has seen a cardiologist and says that they don't know why it happens in his case I guess. I'd like to read the report to get more of an understanding of what they actually said. He seems to be better but is still a little tired.
Thank you and @quilteryoyo - I'm feeling really happy and hopeful about this new relationship. It's a very positive thing in my life right now, and it's almost hard for me to believe it.
@quilteryoyo thanks for the encouragement also. I hope nothing is wrong but glad you are getting checked out this week. You are doing great with all the exercise.

Eeked out a little bit on the treadmill today before strength training. I also took Stella for a walk and regretted going on a route with mostly sidewalks as they were not cleared of snow and it was a slushy mess trudging through.
I forgot to mention that although I didn't run Saturday I did go for a snowshoe hike with Stella which was lovely and hard work! The snow was pretty deep and not broken out on most of the trail. It was the first time I've been out this year and it was good to be out there.6 -
Thanks @katharmonic . Sounds like your snowshoe hike was awesome. I've never snow shoed, but am sure it is a good workout.0
