Love the shoe porn @7lenny7 and your tracking of each and every pair is unbelievable! I wish I had half that um.... obsessiveness???
I love that we "threaded" the same ground @mari33a!
I ran 4 miles this morning which brings my monthly total to 35.22/75 miles and walked almost 2 miles afterwards. It was so hot. There wasn't a dry stitch of clothing on me by the time I finished. I stashed a bottle of water in my mailbox and stopped by for a drink after miles 2 and 3 and finished it off on the walk.5 -
June Goal: 100 Miles
6/1: 5.51 miles
6/2: 5.04 miles
6/5: 7.10 miles
6/7: 5.51 miles
6/8: 6.01 miles
6/8: 6.32 miles
6/11: 10.02 miles
6/14: 6.25 miles
6/15: 6.02 miles
6/16: 6.30 miles
64.08/100 miles completed for June
I haven't posted the last couple of days, but I did run. Yesterday I ran 6 miles. It was hot again, and the first mile was pretty tough since I started out running into 18 mph winds. But once I turned and wasn't running right into the wind the run improved. I actually enjoyed it. It's hot in the summer, but I do enjoy running as it is just starting to get light, but the sun isn't up yet. I was able to run through the sprinklers at the courthouse again and I took some carrots with me and stopped by to see Lilly/Sunny.
Today was still hot, but not as windy. I decided that I would go ahead and run a 10K so I ended up with 6.3 miles today. It was another good run. They weren't watering at the courthouse, so no sprinklers today. But I did take some carrots to Lilly again and I saw a great blue heron at the creek. And even though it was a slow run, I had negative splits.
Tomorrow will be a rest day. My car was totaled after the hail storm last month. So I have to clear everything out of it so they can come pick it up. And now I have to find a new car. It's really frustrating because there is only one car dealership in town and most of the cars there have hail damage. I'll probably have to drive at least an hour to find one.

@kgirlhart my truck was "totalled" in 2009 with a hailstorm because the damage was greater than the value. I received a nice check from USAA but they did not require me to give them the vehicle. It is still completely driveable so I just had to remove the collision insurance. Still have it. I don't notice the dents so much. Of course I did not have to repair any windows. Most of the cars in the neighborhood had broken windows and we all got new roofs from that storm. It was pretty scary.
Checking in with 72.24 miles out of 100 to date. It's been hot here also but mostly cooling to under 80 in the morning altho the dew points and not the sahara dust have not helped. The AQI has been moderate the past few days going up sometimes to poor in the afternoon in places. I need to update our run the world file as I think we are still in the middle of the pacific!3 -
@7lenny7 It's so great to hear how quickly your finger is healing. The body is indeed amazing. And, I always think it is weird that if a part of your body is injured, it has a way of finding every little thing to run into. It seems to become an accident magnet. Enjoy your trail runs over the weekend.
Sorry all. I wrote this a few days ago and never got back to posting. I have read to catch up. You guys are all doing great with your injuries, heat, mental toughness, etc. I've just hugged and liked as appropriate. If I have time I'll comment on a few later.
Hope everyone has a great Friday/Saturday.1 -
Temps were a tad cooler this morning with a gentle breeze but after running the last two days and a 12-mile hike scheduled for tomorrow, I decided to walk this morning and got in 3.46 miles. My favorite time of day.
My little town in the far-off distance
My soon-to-be neighbor is building a house on my parent's homeplace which is about 1/2 mile off the main road on a little private farm road. He does wood sculpting using a chain saw. He is almost finished with a bear carving and even though I knew this when I came over the hill and up to his wood carving shed I couldn't help but be startled by the image. :-)
It's hard to see in the morning light. Here is the image from his Instagram page:
Beautiful morning clouds with the moon in the background10 -
Wow @Teresa502 that chainsaw woodcarving of the bear is freaking awesome!!1

@katharmonic I love your Spartan pictures!
@7lenny7 You will have to definitely come and do RnR if we get it. Macon has so much music history, and I love visiting the Big House periodically.
I have tried to do my runs in the mornings before work to avoid the heat, but it is still in the 80s at 5am! One morning, I just could not make myself get up, so I ran on the track in the gym after work. Runs this week have been:
Mon) Foundation Run: 5 min Z1, 30 min Z2, 5 min Z1
Tues) Fast Finish: 5 min Z1, 25 min Z2, 10 min Z3
Wed) Foundation Run: 5 min Z1, 30 min Z2, 5 min Z1
Thurs) shorter Foundation Run: 5 min Z1, 25 min Z2, 5 min Z1
Today) Speed play: 5 min Z1, 5 min Z2, 6x 1min Z5 2 min Z1, 5 min Z1
I am at around 52 miles so far for the month, so I might just get to 100.
Next week starts hill repeats.
Also, wanted to share something funny I read today: https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/running-can-cure-your-crippling-anxiety-and-depression?fbclid=IwAR1zaeH8A8ltj_srrR1yhMVMzfNhPZJ42kdGxiN3SbilzrYA-rUlFDTPCAU6 -
Yep that was a good article @marisap2010. Thanks!
When do you find out if you get to be in that RNR video?
Wow @AlphaHowls that is a big tree that fell. My brother is in Peachtree City GA and he must have got that same storm come through. 2 trees fell in his yard, just barely missing the house.
Glad to hear the finger is healing quickly @7lenny7 and it isn't really impeding your outdoor activities 😁2 -
15 road miles today, temps in the low 80's
78/160 miles for June
I spent the day working on our boat, polishing and waxing. And drinking beer. Neither of which were conducive to a good training run, but I got it done just the same. All things considered it wasn't too bad.
The good: I saw wild turkey, a bald eagle, a cute raccoon, deer, goats, and when I was running I had a decent pace considering the heat and my day.
The bad: At various times I had aches in my hip, back, and shoulder, and towards the end of the run I got a bloody nose. I have no idea how that happened! I also stopped to walk too much.
I intended to run trails, but my day went longer than expected so elected to just run from here rather than drive to the trail head. I may do the same tomorrow then run trails for my mid-week runs next week.
The route I took included most of the HM course for my race next weekend. I've completely given up the notion of a PR for that considering I'm not training specifically for that race and I'm not tapering at all. I'll try to break two hours and leave it at that.
I didn't finish the run until after 9PM and in this small town there's nowhere to get food that late except at bars and one gas station so I went to a local dive bar for pizza and beer...and it was divine! Had fun BS'ing with some locals then came back to the boat to relax a bit before I doze off. More work tomorrow, more running tomorrow.
^ Lake Pepin, the lake we sail on
^ The big cliff is called Maiden Rock. You can hike to the top and it's a pretty cool hike.
^ The goats
^ the cute raccoon. It was so still I thought it was a garden statue at first, but after I took the photo it ran away8 -

So, I will definitely be in the video. It will be presented to the RnR committee when they visit next month as part of the presentation to try to win the race for our city. The premise of the video is that our mayor was going around town on a truck with his "runner band" recruiting people to run with him. People would join the "race," and we all crossed the finish line and then went into Capricorn Records (recording studio) where we jammed with a local band. I haven't seen the finished video, but this is a TikTok of a few seconds of different parts of the filming. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense to watch this, but the actual video will be 2-3 minutes and is scripted. You'll see me run up behind the trailer with a green headband and pink socks on the left.

@Teresa502 You live in a very pretty area. I can see how the bear would have startled you. He is very talented.
You're doing great @yirara . I sometimes run faster just to be done with it too. I think we all do.
Wow @AlphaHowls ! I'm glad you are okay.
Great running @7lenny7 ! Love the pictures. You also have a great place to run. Funny about the racoon being still until you took it's picture. Usually when I get my phone out and point it at wildlife they run away.
Funny article @marisap2010 . I can't seem to get the video to play, but I know it's my slow internet. I'll keep trying. It's so cool that you got to do that.

@quilteryoyo like this deer?
@Teresa502 cool carving. I wonder how many wood chips he creates on a project like that. Depending on the wood he uses he could sell the shavings to people who make barbecue.
@marisap2010 thanks for the article link, that was good. My favorite line: "It’s not that the solution isn’t working; it’s that you need more solution." LOL!

@marisap2010 great video and article 😄
I've got new guests for a few days; they arrived last night and I had plans to try again on that long run today... so after sleeping in and connecting with them, I went out to see how it would go. Got a late start, the sun was trying to cook me (I know, I know, Spain and Texas and I'll be quiet about my "heat" now), but I just felt super slow and not the greatest, and kind of felt bad for abandoning my family & guests for so long. Once I got to the forest though, I might as well keep going even though I was doing a lot of walking. Hip/back felt weird at first but didn't give me any reason to stop or reroute. Tried to just enjoy it and not be grumpy, but that got harder the closer I got to home. Whatever. Covered 21.19 km on my own 2 feet and am not sure how this half marathon is going to go in a week. Maybe I'll feel more like a runner on the day, because today I just didn't. Haha.
Got back just in time for a wonderful cold shower and then a cookout with our guests.
The swans have new babies!Upcoming races:
June 25: Rybnik Moonlight HM
July 31: Dąbki Seaside Resort Run 10k
August 13: Bieg Zbója Mountain 25k
August 27: Hałda Extreme 10k (coal mine hills)
September 17: Jastrzębie-Zdrój 10k6 -
@polskagirl01 Even if it was slow, you did it, so good for you! We all have off days. I'm sure your HM will be great. Also love your pictures!
I did my "Foundation Run" (zones 1-2) on the track at the gym, followed by my Pump class. This afternoon, I am going to a "Pints and Paint" class, so we'll see what I manage to create after a couple of beers.7 -
@7lenny7 Exactly like that!
@polskagirl01 Some days are just hard. Hang in there. Hopefully you got it out of your system today and next week you'll have a great run! Love the pictures and the baby swans!
@marisap2010 Great running. Enjoy your painting class. You may be "more creative" after a couple.

43.70/80 miles for the month
Wow. I didn't realize I haven't posted my runs for 5 days. Working, dealing with my internet (I'll quit complaining about that), and finding mom a "new" fridge when hers went out has occupied my days. Oh, and going to see the Rhododendron on Roan Mountain one day.
I just spent 30 minutes writing up a long post with all of my runs for the week and lost it when I tried to do the "degree" symbol and I manage to hit the wrong button and opened a new window instead. So I lost the post. UGH!
Instead of being detailed, I'll summarize like @marisap2010 did.
Tues) Foundation Run: 5 min Zone 1, 20 min Zone 2, 5 min Zone 1
Wed) Went to see the Rhododendrons so only had time for a walk after church. I came really close to ditching my streak, but glad I didn't.
Thurs) Speed Play: 5 min Zone 1, 5 min Zone 2, 5x(1 min Zone 5, 2 min Zone 1), 5 min Zone 1. I was pleased that I was able to run the Zone 5 minutes at 7.0 mph. I know it was only a minute at a time, but that's pretty speedy for me.
Fri) Recovery Run - 30 min Zone 1 - did a wun to keep my HR "in the zone."
Today it was nice outside. I didn't get out until 11:15 and it was only 75°F, 58% humidity, and 8 mph breeze. It was sunny though, so I ran on the driveway to stay in the shade. Today's schedule called for a Fast Finish run: 5 min Zone 1, 20 min Zone 2, 5 min Zone 3. I averaged 13:10 min/mile for the first 25 min and then ran the "fast 5" at 10:46 min/mile, so not bad. I was having a hard time breathing again today and had to stop for a minute during the last 5 minutes to calm my breathing. That probably helped the pace, but, I'm still okay with that.
Pictures from the trip to see the Rhododendron on Wednesday. Supposedly, this is the largest naturally occurring Rhododendron Garden in the world!
Trail to the gardens from the parking lot. It was interesting to me that there are no rhododendron growing there, when just a short walk away, that's all there are.
They weren't fully bloomed out yet, but were still pretty. Here is a picture of an area that had all of the stages of the blooming process.
The bumble bees were busy!
A couple of the expanses of blooms.
Close up.
This petal seems to have fallen just right and got stuck on the branch of a hemlock tree.
Me and mom at one of the overlooks.8 -
@quilteryoyo when you lose posts are you on your phone or computer? If you're on your phone, one thing I do to avoid the frustration of lost posts is to type it out in a different app first, like your email app. Then I just copy & paste the entire thing into the MFP app, fix any @username issues and post it. Nice job with your runs! Great rhododendron photos. Do they have a nice smell to them? I don't think they grow up this far north and the few times I've seen them I don't recall if they had a scent.

15 more miles tonight in 80F temps
93/160 miles for June.
In large part a repeat of yesterday but with less wildlife sightings and a slightly different route. Tonight's pace was slower, as can be expected with the second of back-to-back long runs. The wildlife highlight was seeing two black squirrels. I think I've seen more albino squirrels than black squirrels. I finished the run at 9pm so had the same problem finding places which served food this late. This time I walked to the gas station and bought three bratwursts. I'm stuffed!
I was going to run 17 tonight but a slight twinge to my calf muscle half way through made me decide to skip a couple miles and just head straight back. I'll skip my run tomorrow and rest the calf (and me).
Last night and tonight I've been using my hydration vest and a 1.5L water bladder. Yesterday was the first time I used a water bladder and I think I like it better than smaller bottles in the chest pockets or hand carrying. Yesterday I partially froze the water in the bladder, today I filled it with ice cubes and then water. I think I like the cube method better but it will need more experimentation. I just ordered a new vest, a Salomon Advance Skin 12, which comes with an insulated bladder sleeve. That will be really nice for keeping the water colder.
I found out that our local police department is having a 3 mile Torch Run for Special Olympics on Monday morning. Not sure why they scheduled it then but it's supposed to be 98F in the afternoon so morning will be good. I'm planning on taking a couple hours off work and joining them.

Joined a new running group today in a bid to get my mileage up again. Did 16.6km today with an expert pacer who got us home for a 6min per k average pace. Delighted to be able to keep up with ease - not as unfit as I feared.9
-
@7lenny7 Losing my post this time was my fault. I didn't realize that my NumLk wasn't on, so when I hit the combination for the degree sign, it went to a new window, with no warning. When I came back to MFP, the post was gone because I hadn't saved it. Still frustrating though. You know. I was up close and personal to the rhododendron and don't recall a scent. I really didn't think about it much when we were there. LOL I guess if they did, it was subtle. I can't imagine running that far two days in a row. You are doing great and probably a good idea to cut your second run a little short and skip today. I hope your calf muscle is okay. The insulated bladder sleeve should be really nice. Enjoy the Torch Run tomorrow.
Nice running @ContraryMaryMary ! You are definitely not unfit if that was an easy pace.4 -
Great running everyone. I went through and like and enjoyed pics and reading your posts.
@marisap2010 love McSweeney, ha! I guess I should run an ultra marathon and as it says, I'm embarrassed this didn't occur to me beforeFun that you are in the RNR marathon video too!

We've had amazingly cool weather in the 50s here the last two days. I ran with long sleeves for much of yesterday's run and half of today's. Pretty perfect.
I have a race this week. It's 3.5 miles and used to be the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge and is now the Workforce Run for some reason. It hasn't received the publicity that the Corporate Challenge used to, and after not being held for two years I don't know if it will be big or small or what. I plan to just see how I feel and it might just be an easy base run for me. I haven't done anything approaching speedwork or pushed the pace for so long. Also I just looked at the forecast and it's for rain. I will probably bail if it's bad to be honest.5 -

I ran 10 miles today. I managed to get up early and get out for my run during the coolest part of the day. It was 76°F at the start and 83° F feels like 87° at the end, but that was the coolest part of the day. It was actually a pleasant run. It was warm, but it was about as nice as a June morning in Texas is going to get. I saw a jackrabbit in the cemetery and stopped by to see Lilly the donkey and took her some carrots. I can already tell she is expecting a treat when she sees me now. I saw a couple of loose dogs by the park, but I saw them from a distance and just changed my route to avoid them. All in all it was a nice run.
Happy Father's Day @scott6255 and @7lenny7!
5 -
My long run yesterday was 7 miles for the cutback. The temperature was in the low 70s and was fairly comfortable. After, I showered and drove almost 2 hours to visit my parents for a few hours for Father’s Day.
I set my alarm for 5am today, but I hit snooze and didn’t get up. Now, I wish I had because it is only 65 outside. I guess I’ll wait until the sun goes down tonight, or maybe go to the gym, for today’s run.5 -
Darn it! I couldn't go to the Torch Run for Special Olympics this morning. It conflicted with getting my sutures removed. I should put a reminder on my calendar for next year.
Now I'm debating whether I'm going to run this evening. It's going to be close to 100F when I get out there.5 -
I've gotten caught up on reading and have done a lot of liking and hugging! The same storm that blew trees down for @alphahowls did the same for me. My electricity went out around 3:15 on Friday afternoon and was restored late yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. We have well water so since the pump runs on electricity we were without running water also. Thankfully, the storm brought cooler temperatures so doing without air conditioning wasn't a problem over the weekend. On Saturday, I hiked 11.87 miles on the Appalachian Trail. No run yesterday as I took my parents out for lunch, did some things for them (cleaning windows, garage, basement, etc.) and then had to clean out my refrigerator and stand-alone deep freezer, discard food, and go to the grocery store to restock. This morning I took advantage of the still cool temperatures (50F) and ran 5.51 miles before work.
My husband will be busy with tree removal for the next few weeks. These two are in the meadow above my house. Several others came down along the fence line behind the house and a couple of large limbs fell in the yard below the house.8 -
@katharmonic We've had cooler weather over the weekend too, but is supposed to be back in the 90's later in the week. You are doing great with your mileage. I hope you have a good race, if you decide to run it.
@kgirlhart Nice running. Love that Sunny is expecting carrots now. Animals are so fun. Glad you were able to avoid the loose dogs.
@marisap2010 Great running. I'm having to do the same thing as you today. It was 50 this morning, but I wasn't able to run. Now I'm debating on whether to run on the treadmill or run late this evening outside.
@7lenny7 Shoot. Sorry you couldn't do the torch run, but yeah for getting the sutures out. Does it feel better with them out? I wouldn't have to think about running outside if it was 100 degrees. That would be an automatic NO.
@Teresa502 Sorry about the trees and having no electricity for so long. Cleaning out spoiled food and having to replace it is no fun. The temperature was almost cool this morning. Good job taking advantage of it. Looking forward to seeing some hiking pictures.

@quilteryoyo yes it does feel better. Mostly because now when I flex my finger (gently) I no longer feel the resistance of the sutures. The nurse said I can now reduce the amount of bandage material I use and that helps also. Everything appears to be healing well as can be expected at the moment. I seem to have full feeling in the fingertip (not helpful when the nurse was pulling and cutting the sutures..YEOW!!!) and no sign of infection. The swelling has come down quite a bit but still is substantial. The fingernail will definitely come off but the nurse said to let it come off naturally rather than try to speed up the process (as if!). The bandage is as much for compressing the finger as it is for protecting the wound. I go back in three weeks for a recheck and x-rays.
Call me crazy, but I'm planning on waiting for the hottest part of the day and going out for a 4 mile run just to say I did it. It's currently 96F with a 107F heat index. In two hours it's supposed to be 99F with a similar heat index. That's when I'll go out. I will bring a partially frozen water bottle with me.

So something happened. I got my running mojo back. This whole run was super easy. Breathing was fine, running was good, never felt out of breath once. I could have gotten on, but felt that running 60 minutes while about 45 was the longest recently was enough to prevent injury. 10k here I come.7
