You're right @micki48 that the numbers are purely data. I keep putting off taking my progress photos and measurements because ultimately I've made no progress, but it's still useful to have a new starting point.
I'm tired today! Despite finishing The Boys before 11pm, it ended up being 00:00 when the bedroom light was finally turned off, and then the alarm went all too soon at 5.20am. It was a good training session this morning though and I felt strong; I was able to recognise that I define 'strong' less about the weight I can lift and more about my body functioning well as a whole with minimal niggles/inactive bits. I saw some fast times on the rower and was able to maintain the pace for 30 seconds as well, showing what even small amounts of weight training can yield.
My action plan for this week is intentional exercise each day even if just 5 minutes. I'm also tracking my food (today onwards anyway) and going for 2L+ of water.
Today is a hungry day so I will end up over my calorie goal, but I am debating getting MFP premium so I can set a higher calorie goal on Tuesdays, and also I think I'd make more use of the mobile app (i.e. more likely to track) without the ads. They're blocked on my desktop web browser but not in the app.
Oh, I read that blog @jugar and it was a good reminder to get on with things even if you don't really feel like it, which has been my default attitude lately. I understood what the author meant about 'busy work', which is why I've traded playing on my phone in front of the TV for transcribing recipes on the laptop in front of the TV... one of them is productive, the other is avoidance behaviour! OK they're both avoidance behaviour, but one of them at least has a productive outcome.6 -
Tuesday Weigh-In
PW: 245.9
CW: 244.9
I was somewhat braced for a small gain this week given the extravagent brunch and leftovers I had from my friends on Sunday. But Monday was a "one perfect day" mindset and it paid off!
First day of the new job was all orientation, same thing today. I think I go to the office for the first time tomorrow! A packed lunch hasn't featured in my schedule in 5 months.7 -
@ashleycarole86 the job is going well but doing a course on top of it and trying to figure out how to program a mathematical model for my master's is kicking my butt energy-wise.
The course means I haven't been going to the gym as much, which has been bad for my mental health but good for my chronic injuries. Being in physical pain really affects me mentally (as I'm sure it does everyone). But it's done on Thursday with the final next week some time.
My goal for the end of August is to be back in the 180s, which is pretty lofty, but I'll do my best.6 -
I'm all happified. Is that a word? I have been fighting with myself for ages about exercise before lunch vs before supper. Before breakfast is not part of the battle - I always wake up too hungry for that! But I feel like my mornings are all about avoidance. There are all those little things to do, and then there are things to read, a crossword to do... you know how it goes. Well, this month I put a separate item on the habit tracker for a short series of exercises I do to help keep my wrists, hands, and elbows pain free. This is super important now that I actually have some music gigs, a recording coming up, and need to be able to play for fairly long periods of time without pain happening. I had let this series of exercises kind of float off my plate.
Just the act of putting that on the habit tracker has gotten me to do them in the morning. I'm not sure why those, but probably because they only last a few minutes. But the greatest spin-off is that I then continue into some kettlebells and then do Pilates - I'm already at it anyhow, right? Then the only late-day exercise is my exercise bike while watching something. I hope this lasts! It feels great.
@DD265 sounds like you're having that energy too! Let's not ask where it comes from - just enjoy6 -
@LoraineGB Oh no! That sure will knock you out. I once got stung 10+ times by tiny little bees I disturbed while watering my garden. Benadryl was my friend. How is your bite or sting? Hope it wasn’t a snake. Feel better.
Lots of mask wearing around here if I want to spend anytime with my husband. My daughter and fam are still in temp housing until Friday. I know it’s extreme. She’s a bit worried until Juliet is fully vaxxed. Friday my best friend is driving down from Boston and we are headed to the Jersey Shore for a bff girls weekend. It’s been about 10 years since we’ve seen each other. I am praying I don’t have a rebound like the President (from taking that nasty Paxlovid). I will surely cry if that happens. My daughter just might lose her mind.
I’m not yet back in the groove. Water hasn’t been great because 😷. I haven’t logged but food hasn’t been awful. Steps aren’t quite there, but at least I’m over 5,000.
Off to remove a mask.
Hope you are feeling better and can test clear to go on your trip. We had covid last August and stayed separated in the house until the 10 day period was over. I went on a girls trip in September and it was the tonic I needed after all the covid stuff.
It takes a while to recover from Covid so take it easy, all your good habits will come back!

I've been having blueberry thoughts lately, too @jugar and @micki48! The next county over you can even get a permit to pick wild huckleberries at the foot of the mountain. They are superior in flavor but it takes an eon to pick a coffee can full! They make the best muffins!
@LoraineGB hope your bite has calmed down by now. Bites like that can be annoying for a long time!
It's been SO HOT here. I go out & water early and by the time I'm done it's already too warm to do more outdoors. No walking or biking for sure. So I have increased the number of times I typically go to the pool. It's making a difference I can tell already.
Today it's not as warm nor was yesterday so I noticed my tomatoes are starting to turn finally. The one year I have a bumper crop and the extreme heat keeps them from ripening. 😡
I've been subbing for my church's secretary this week & last, 3 hr/day. Nice distraction. So home now. Had a good lunch & think I'll head to the pool.
Y'all have a good one!5 -
@micki48 I have been putting off doing measurements but I know they are good for reference so may just have to bite the bullet
@Kali225 Hope you have a good day and you have really nice new coworkers when you visit your new office tomorrow
@jugar I too stretch things out in the morning to put off exercise just that little bit longer, why though, I do it anyways?!
Can I ask what music you play and more about your gigs?
@DD265 My aunt lives in Norwich and we used to go to Great Yarmouth as kids and have those doughnuts, they are sooooo goood!
All you tomato ladies, have you thought about Tomato Jam? I read a recipe the other day that had it and it sounds intriguing
And for an update on my sting. It's definitely a sting, there are no puncture marks and only one blood spot. It is swollen today and my skin is tight which makes walking a little uncomfortable. I will monitor it tomorrow and if there is no improvement will go to Urgent Care. I'm slightly annoyed with myself over it all as it was totally preventable!7 -
@jugar
My starting weight last Friday was 229lbs 🙈
Hi everyone 👋
My name is Ellie, I am 44, mum of three teenage boys and married to my husband for 19 years. We live in UK.
I am returning member to the team.
Last time I weighed in for the Waistaways I was 216lbs - I am coming back 13lbs heavier 🥺
Never mind, with all your help, I'll be much lighter soon 🥰

@LoraineGB Let's bug each other about the morning delay/avoidance/procrastination "thing" - maybe we can help each other get stuff done As to my music, I'm a flutist, now retired from my university teaching position but still playing. The combination of retirement and the pandemic put a serious stop to playing together with people for a while, but it is coming back! I do both contemporary music and classical music - madly swinging between working with young laptop-wielding sound artists to "straight" chamber music and also baroque music on period instruments. It all gives me a reason to keep in shape - I intend to play as long as possible! Gotta keep showing those youngsters how it's done, right? Actually, the recording I'm doing in October includes an English violinist (Simon Standage) who is 80! He is one of my heroes.8

@ashleycarole86
Can I please join step challenge 🙂
I would love to aim for 10k a day starting tomorrow. My Fitbit is charging 🥳
I work in school during the day and I'm a cook in the hotel in the evening. I've been easily doing 20+k steps a day, but now being on holiday I am too lazy and step much much less. So this way reporting to you hopefully will motivate me to move more 🥰5 -
@ashleycarole86 I promise this is the last time I will be so late with my steps.
Sun 9,332
Mon 9,090
30 min intervals
Tues 16,408
30 min intervals
Wed 10,046
Thurs 15,056
Fri 11,068
Sat 6,3803 -
Last week, I got my classroom set up. This week is full of trainings so my steps won't be great. Yesterday, I slept in but got in 15 min on the elliptical. Today, I did intervals. Tomorrow, I think I will do Barre. It has been awhile. We did eat out today and Friday our Principal is getting us sandwiches. This weeks goal is morning workouts. Next week will be morning workouts and nutrition. I don't even want to put my work pants on. 😭😭😭8

@KellyBgetsfit Go Kelly! You are amazing at fitting in some workouts where you can, while still doing so much for your students. You rock!2

Time for the nightly nag
Due through Wednesday:
@MoonlitMuse
@JEB03253
@AshenMoon
@KellyBgetsFit
@lauren_989
@mmarceau2
Thanks!1 -
I got back under my top maintenance weight, so I won't have to move back to the regular team for now - you can do it too @ashleycarole86 ! Don't go too overboard on the Peloton right away - can't have you limping around, now can we?
Funny you mention that about the Peloton - we were sore today and I did take it fairly easy. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow night but it's late and I hope I'll have time to ride before I go!3 -

Absolutely, and welcome aboard! Looking forward to seeing those beautiful step counts flowing in! Glad to have you back - I see your crazy work schedule has not slowed down any!!3 -
@KellyBgetsfit So hard to believe it's already time to be setting up the classroom!!
@jugar Exercise timing is such a great topic. The later it gets in the day for me, the harder it is for me to work out. But, now that I'm back in the office most days, that's often my only choice! @micki48 I totally agree it's sometimes a battle of the mind to get ourselves doing the thing we just know is going to make us feel better. I always think "I just have to start". And then, once I do, I don't want to quit early!
Ok - I have some step conpiling to do! If I'm not back tonight, it'll be tomorrow! We had some lovely competition in July and we have an awesome number of participants for August as well.. looking forward to us each setting what success means to our own selves and going for those goals!4 -

Almost got all the weight I gained on vacation back off this week!
It is interesting, talking about the timing of exercise and even how it can change. I used to have to exercise in the mornings or I wouldn't do it. Now I prefer to exercise in the evenings. I guess my body would prefer to sleep an extra hour than get up and exercise! I will say my job also changed. When I exercised in the morning, I was on my feet for 12 hours at work. Now I'm sitting most of my day at work, so that's a big change.
@KellyBgetsfit is it school time already?! Where is time going?5 -
Good morning WaistAways!
I got a great whoosh this morning on the scale- 182.6! It will be great if it sticks around for Friday, but I have a feeling it won't stay quite that low. Still, anything below 186.2 is a loss for the week, so I'm going to keep drinking my water and we'll see what happens.
Tomato gang @micki48 @MsMcClane @jugar my tomatoes (cherokee purples and amish paste, as well as some cherry tomatoes) are starting to explode in productivity again, and my fig tree is already churning out figs, I've got a few cups already, and there are many more green still on the tree. figpocalypse is coming! Looks like I'm canning tomatoes and fig preserves this weekend. We're drying out southern peas as we speak, those have also been very productive.
@jugar oh good, glad to hear I set that number for a reason, rather than just being a round number, haha. I'd forgotten how I picked it. I do try to get 25 g of fiber every day, and I notice when I don't get it.
I notice you friend requested me, but I literally only use MFP for the forums, haha. I use MacroFactor for logging food and weight, so I wouldn't be a good friend .
@DD265 I think it's a good idea to calorie cycle to make up for days when you know you're going to be higher. I do it for Friday-Saturday, because those are my more fun food days, so I eat a little less the other 5 days.
@Kali225 I like the "one perfect day" thing a lot- going to have to start framing my bad days as going for that.
oh man, this thread is so chatty, declaring thread bankruptcy for now, might come back later! Just wanted to share my good news this morning, and we'll cross our fingers it sticks around for my Friday weigh in.7 -
Cw: 231.3 😁 it went down woo!8
-
Good Morning! Happy Wednesday! 😁
@CupcakeCrusoe I have to agree about catching up on the chat. I'm new so trying to get the swing of it.
@ashleycarole86 I'd like to join the step challenge. I'm back to working from home so hopefully this motivate me to get up and move. Except from my desk to the couch. 😭🥺 Starting small - 5000 step goal.
I'm also trying to figure out new exercise time. Considering that school will be starting back soon. This week I'm trying to use my lunch hour for workouts. Hopefully after kids are in school routine I can go to gym with my oldest son.
Enjoy the day all!!!4 -
It's a beautiful green morning! WTG people!4

I'm late getting my intro posted. I'm Kristi, 40 year old. I've been married for 15 years and we have 3 kids ages 13, 11 and 7. I live near Spokane Washington in the US. I'm an occupational therapist and work for the schools. I'm on summer vacation until September. Currently I'm really enjoying my unstructured schedule but my eating hasn't been great. I'm not as hungry in the summer so I am really struggling to hit my macros consistently. I ended up gaining a few pounds in July with too much celebrating (vacation and milestone birthday and anniversary). I am getting lots of exercise just being active outdoors. This month I want to become more consistent with food. I'm hoping my husband will join me with that this month. He was noticing for the first time he can't drop weight like he used to. I'm pretty sure he just wished on a star and it magically went away. He has shown interest in eating better so that could be helpful!
@cupcakecaruso and @jugar I eat 40% protein and I end up eating 150g of protein a day. This is what my wellness coach has me doing. My regular doctor has also reviewed my nutrition plan and has no issues with the numbers. Our bodies absorb different types of protein differently. For example your body can absorb about 80% of the protein in whey protein powder but only 35% of the protein in chicken. Beef is in-between whey and chicken. Dairy protein is less than chicken. I can't remember if fish is similar to chicken or higher 🤔. If you eat a variety of different types of protein and check with your doctor you should be fine.
August Goals
Add some workouts in my gym with weights
Hit my macros 5 out of 7 days
Experiment with journaling
Eat through out the day
My masters program started again this month so I also have that going on. I have 8 classes left and a capstone project in my self paced program.8 -
I'm really impressed with how much you've learned from your wellness coach @conleywoods but more importantly how you're putting it into practise!
In terms of exercise timing, I enjoy having my exercise done in the morning (and feeling smug for the rest of the day!), but am less thrilled about getting out of bed to do it. If I leave exercise to the evening it's less likely to happen, which is why I basically run/walk with other people or not at all!
I'm joining the tomato club too! Except I have no issue with quantity as I will just eat them all. Yum. My plants were looking a little worse for wear last night, I think a combination of weight and wind, but I didn't have my ties etc with me to support them properly so did what I could and will tackle them tonight. Some tomatoes on another plot are ripening so hopefully mine will follow suit soon.
We went for a short walk at lunch time, so that's the intentional exercise ticked off and I am working on getting my water drunk, in between fussing one of the cats who is being very demanding this afternoon.4 -

Thank you so much! I am feeling better and so far, still negative. I'm glad for your reminder that just because symptoms are gone does not mean that my body has fully recovered. I am tired and finding myself a bit out of breath with small activity. Not normal for me. I took a 1 mile walk last night that took quite a bit of time to recover from. Also got on my mat this morning and did a workout for when you have "Low Energy". It was perfect! Thanks for that reminder.
5 -
I did get on my mat this morning, took a short walk yesterday. Never did the measurements. I'll get there. Hubby getting a PCR test today to make sure I didn't infect him. Then my daughter MIGHT come home. LOL I'm still feeling good. Just a bit tired. I'll take another rapid tomorrow. Juliet gets her 2nd vax dose on Friday. That's the main goal in all this fuss. She was supposed to get it the day I tested positive and I ruined it for her. Don't want that happening again. I know someone is likely to get sick down the line, but having her have the most protection is key for us.
I need a shower and need to check those tomatoes. It may be late to water them right now. Drinking my water and running to the bathroom as a result.
So nice to see all the conversation. I like the positive, supportive energy.
@KellyBgetsfit Hugs to you already preparing your classroom and all that. I'm supposed to go in the week of 8/22 to help set up. Start week of 8/29 with meetings.
Have a great day everyone.

@jugar sorry, I forgot to weigh in!!! I did get on the elliptical this morning.
@micki48 We only had 8 weeks off and kids had 9 weeks.
The last time I consistently lost weight was Spring 2021 when I did IF. My lunch time is 11:15 so I am going to try to do an 8 hour window 11:15-7:15. I will be back tomorrow with my current weight.4 -
( @ashleycarole86 just don't hold me to another green week, my new office has "snack walls" in every kitchen and kitchenette, beer on tap including my favorite cider, and I already have team lunches, outings, and happy hours on my calendar the rest of this month. EEEEK!!)
@CupcakeCrusoe you will hear a bunch of us refer to the "one perfect day" mantra; it's a way we try to get strict about things for just one day following maybe a few days of being off track, to help reset and start fresh on a good foot.
I am still having a good week with work but I will say, I had a difficult afternoon today. Maybe being tired from my first day commuting in 5 months? But I was just in a mood and I took a pilates sculpt class over zoom at 8pm and got so frustrated with my own body and the pace of class that I rage quit 13 min early! It is extremely rare for me to bail on a workout. I didn't have a great dinner either (although not a binge, which is still a win - and it's been many weeks since one of those for me, which is wild). I'm going to shower now and try to wind down for bed. Gotta share the tough times in here too. Just want to wake up feeling better.5
