HOW IT ALL WORKS: The December challenge runs from December 3 - 31. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Every challenger weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat thread. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for longer. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

Welcome to December!
This is our home for the month, where all of our joys and challenges take place. Please (re)introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. Focus on the small every day choices, and you will get where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86 . I live in rural Québec, and I'm a retired university professor of music. My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed it on while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise. As of October, I hit 10 years on maintenance, always refining and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link and how-to info are under "Announcements" on the main F2F page.
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals for the month, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. Let the introductions roll!0 -
Good morning WaistAways!
I'm Christina, in Virginia in the US. 5'4", currently 179.2.
I love pole dance and chair dance, choreography and working on my splits.
I will be very happy for December if I stay in the 170s, preferably nearer 175 than 180.
Challenges for December: our advent calendar has my husband and I splitting a different beer every day, so about 100 cal I have to account for more than I did before December. And then the normal holiday stuff.
@ashleycarole I'm going again for 240 minutes, 4 classes a week. For this past week, I did 4.5 classes, so 270 minutes.
Can't wait to try to log in here more often, with the knowledge that, ya know, stuff happens.
Have a great December, everyone!7 -
The December Week 1 Challenge is ready to roll first thing Sunday. Let's start December with a strong week.

Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and I am from North Carolina in the US. I feel like I just wrote my intro for November...where is time going?
I have been overweight/obese my entire life. I had lost 50 pounds on weight watchers, gained back 40 then been yo yo-ing ever since. I have been losing and gaining the same 5 pounds for the past few months. With the holidays coming up, I have several lunches/parties planned with work, friends, and parties. Looking at my calendar for this month I am cringing. But I just need to make the best choices and not over-indulge. My goal for this month is to hopefully be green for the first 2 weeks and maintain during the party weeks. I have been slacking on tracking my food since Thanksgiving and need to turn on my alarm at 8pm again to remind myself to make sure I have tracked everything for the day.
For steps, I still plan to stay at 5,000 for my goal this month. I am hoping to increase it soon, but I have not been consistently hitting this goal.
I hope everyone has a great month and I look forward to hearing from the new people!4 -
Good afternoon Waistaways!
My name is Diana, currently living in New Jersey (closer to NYC and the housewives than the shore 😂) Im a mom to an adorable 1 year old boy and work full time as an optometrist.
I’ve struggled with my weight pretty much my whole life, but post baby have really been struggling to see a dip. I bought a peloton about 2 months ago so that’s been by form of exercise recently.
November was my first month back here after a few years and I love this community. I do think I need to change things up so I will be focusing on not eating as many carbs after work (I usually get home between 6-8) and not eating after dinner. I would like to make sure I’m working out 4x a week and get my water in.
Here’s hoping for a great December!6 -
Hi everybody!
My name is Yinka and I live in Bewdley - a small town in Worcestershire, south of Birmingham in the UK. I live with my husband, Ben, and we both work from home. I'm an online business trainer, part-time college lecturer and voluntary English language teacher.
I have been struggling to lose weight for about 20 years, and now that I am post menopausal (I'm 59), it's even more difficult.
However, I get amazing support from this group, and they keep me accountable, and I am very slowly (seriously, very slowly!) beginning to make smart choices.
As Liselyn (@jugar) says - consistency and persistence - it all adds up. Just don't give up
For the month of December I am looking to leave the month lighter than I am entering it. However tiny the amount is.
So welcome to all newcomers, you're going to love it here ❤️4 -
Good morning Waistaways 😊
I'm Ellie, 44, married and mum to 3 teenage boys ☺️
Sorry in advance for long post but it's only 1am and I am pretty sure it is my Day 1 of being sober.
2 weeks ago I was at Elvis Impersonator party. It was at the hotel I work at. I haven't eaten all day and got sooooo drunk! I wasn't argumentative but just silly dancing all night, got on the stage, fell and broke Elvis' equipment. Embarrassing especially when my 2 teenage children were there 🙈
Fast forward 2 weeks until tonight. Our works party. My hubby and I gave a lift to a lady coworker. In first half an hour she went through 2 bottles of Proseco. I decided to just have a glass of wine and decided I cannot drink anymore because I have to look after her. She was a nightmare, chatting the men, going outside all the time, I could hardly keep up with her 😢 she made me realize how I look to other people when I'm drunk! 😭
We took her home about 22.30.
My heart broke when we pulled up outside her house and her 12 year old daughter was waiting at the gate. Just looking at daughter's sad face almost made me cry.
My son texted me tonight asking 'how drunk are you tonight?'
I drink at home most of the time, not very often outside, but I think I am really ready to stop. Other than looking after my friend, I danced a lot tonight with my other merry friends 😁 I believe I can enjoy myself without alcohol 😊
Wish me luck my friends 🍀😂😘7 -

@ells_bellz What a great moment - seeing and knowing that this is a change you need. I know there are people here who will help you through this! Your story is so moving - and even though this might be a difficult change, you are strong and your kids will support and encourage you, I'm sure. As will we all! Some broken hearts are going to heal - come here to keep us updated and to be listened to any time.
In the December Week 1 Challenge I am making one of my "magic numbers" ZERO. For zero alcohol for the whole week. If you want to post there too, go for it! We can be zeros together

Happy Sunday, Team!
My weigh-in today - spoiler alert! It's a gain.

Hi, I am Kelly. Wife, mother of 4, Kindergarten teacher. I have been in this group since January 2020. I have lost, gained, lost again. I am currently at a similar starting weight, but a pant size smaller. I would like to lose 3 pounds this month. The scale has been a over the place though. December is definitely a crazy month for me (and all of you). I am trying so hard to enjoy it and not feel stressed all the time.
@team: I just want to reach out and give you a hug. It sounds like there are a lot of challenges everyone is facing.
@micki48 I personally think you should stay on the team. I feel like by going to support, you may let your weight slip more. The accountability of weighing in every week helps, even if it is a gain. I think you should pick two things you can work on for the week, that are realistic. I can add more veggies. I can spend 5 minutes meditating (very good for your cortizol). You went through a lot of changed this year, but wouldn't it feel good to know you didn't give up the last month (and hardest month). Big HUGS!
@ells_bellz Great job realizing you need to make a change. That is a HUGE challenge, but I believe in you.5 -

I am a person who intentionallymoves my body everyday I have a very busy job, so yes, I get steps, but I really want to get in more intentional workouts in addition to my steps. I will continue to work on this in December.
I am a person who eats to nourish my body I am doing better with this. I have increased my protein and veggies. I am getting closer to hitting ym macros daily, BUT, I am still hitting the snacks in the afternoon. And sometimes when I come home from work.
Its about progress, not perfection.4 -

My name is Loraine, I’m a Brit living in the US. I've always fluctuated up and down but I moved in January to rural MO but it wasn’t a good move and resulted in me gaining around 30lbs. We moved to an apartment at the end of September and it’s suiting me much better. Habits are better.
Since joining this group I have been on a rollercoaster weight wise but I feel it would be so much worse if I wasn’t at least trying to keep an eye on it and had this group in my back pocket.
My challenge for December is this… I’m going home to England for Christmas and Scotland for NY. It’s what I call a drive by visit, only two weeks, see all the elders, pick up some supplies and fly home to resume life until we retire in three years and can move lock stock and barrel back to the UK. It's my first visit since March 2020 so it's long overdue.
We have multiple family events arranged and I love, love, love the British food & drink and find it really hard to abstain. I'm my own worst enemy, here's an example.....I've booked my mum and I on a flight from Heathrow to Endinburgh, it's a 90 minute flight. You have to pre order food and drink as they don't sell it onboard (there's a hint here that you don't really need anything on such a short flight) and although both of us will live if we don't have anything, I've ordered us a cream tea and a slice of mince pie each.
In the weeks leading up to my trip, I am making a concerted effort to get good habits in order.

I am a person who Intermittently Fasts
I am having tremendous success with fasting right now. I thought I would struggle with having breakfast later that I am used to but it hasn't been a bother. I find myself having Brunch more often and that's ok as I have a light snack early afternoon and then dinner at 17:00. This allows me to be finished by 17:30 and ready for the next fasting period.
I am struggling with water intake. Our fridge does not have a water dispenser and the water out of the tap tastes nasty. We've been buying bottled water but for some reason, I just can't get into it as a regular habit. I think I will do this for the group December challenge to try and improve it.

Happy December Week 1 - let's hope that we surf through this next month, do a lot of reflecting, and come out with strong energy, good plans, and as tight a team as ever.
I'd like to welcome our new members @kto0194 and @annieo22 who officially start on the team as of today. We have heard from @kto0194 but not yet from @annieo22 . Feel free to chime in any time! I know it is a bit much the first couple of weeks, but once you are into the team rhythm, checking in regularly and getting to know everyone, it gets easier. As I tell everyone, one of the main goals is to get all the other team members "in your head" - they'll be talking to you when you reach for that extra helping or try to skip your workout! But we want to hear your voices too. It doesn't matter if you're going through an up time or a down one - go ahead and rant or brag And, of course, questions are always welcome.
Quick update on the week's first weigh-ins. Don't forget
Sunday:
@ells_bellz (hope you're doing well!!!)
Monday:
@CarolAnnM2
@MoonlitMuse
@kto0194
Thanks!4 -
@ells_bellz I send big hugs to you for your brave step into sobriety. I “retired” from alcohol in 2011 and haven’t picked it back up. Although seeing ourselves through others’ drunken eyes is a painful experience, it’s a blessing in disguise and you can make the choice each day to not imbibe. Just 24-hours at a time.
Please know I’m in your corner rooting for you! Call or text any time. 802-299-0704.
Regular email is preferable to the message system in here. It is: evelyn.l.adams@gmail.com
Nice deep breathing. Sleep well.

Hi everyone - hope day one of the new month has treated everyone well. I have caught up with all the last November posts and the first of December, and there is a lot going on. My absenteeism the last few days was a function of busyness for the most part. I am not on track.
In terms of my intro:
My name is Ashley, I'm 36 years old, and I'm married to fellow team member and weight loss support person @bowens1973
We live in Alberta and both work full time at demanding jobs with a reasonably long commute. We found out this past week our two days working from home will be reduced to one day in the New Year, so that will making timing even more challenging.
Our home life changed earlier this year when my Mom in her 60s with a few different health issues moved into our basement. Between that and our many pets (my dog, two cats, and her one dog), it's a full house!
For exercise, I enjoy walking, the Peloton, strength training, yoga, hiking and such.
In terms of my weight loss journey, I reached my highest weight ever of 293 in Jan 2021, got on here, and marched my way down to what I want my maintenance range to be (low 160's) earlier this year.
I went on a series of vacations and then came back to immense stress at work, and I'm about 10 pounds higher than I want to be.
What @DD265 posted at the end of November makes sense to me. This 10 pounds feels like a catastrophe, but if I label it a relapse rather than a lapse, it might make itself so.
I have come so far, and I'm working through a tough time. I still feel good, but I also feel less "in control" that I'd like. Doing my best.
We have a couple of new folks this month - welcome!
As co-captain of this team, my role is to host the step challenge. If anyone new is interested in joining:
-provide me your daily step pledge (a combo of your steps and exercise minutes)
-every Sunday, post your steps and minutes of intentional exercise for the Sun-Sat of the week prior. I will convert your exercise minutes to steps
-I'll generate a step report for those that participate. use the extra motivation!!
My dad from Manitoba arrived today and will be here until sometime around Christmas. Next weekend my brother and his fiancee come as well. This has been the first time since I got on track I'll have this much company for this long. I have been feeling very off track and this definitely isn't going to help - feeling out of routine for sure. However, looking forward to the time together.5 -
Nov Week 5 exercise:
Sun - 7245 steps + 61 minutes Peloton
Mon - 10584 steps
Tues - 5936 steps
Wed - 10696 steps
Thurs - 7249 steps
Fri - 2869 steps
Sat - 8537 steps1 -
Quick hello. I’m feeling a bit better today. The scale is down 3 pounds today. Why did I let it defeat me yesterday?! Today I did Pilates for hip release to help with the catchy hip I’ve been having. It’s felt really good. Went to a Messiah Sing with my husband and worked on a puzzle which is relaxing to me. And I don’t eat.
I didn’t fully log or get all my steps. But feel much better today. Sun was out too. Thanks so much for your help friends. I am goi g to stay on the team. @KellyBgetsfit I so appreciate your post. I will pick two things. One is going to be more intentional exercise and also making sure I drink my water. I guess that’s two.
It’s late. I’ve got to get to bed. Hugs.5 -
@micki48
So glad to hear you had a better day and glad you're deciding to stay on the regular team.
While we're all cheering for losses for one another, never feel like if you're not losing that you shouldn't stay on the regular team.
We are here - good or bad.
Sleep well - hugs!6 -
I'm Katie, 34, living near Nottingham in the UK with my husband and our two cats. I'm working on recovering from binge eating disorder, and now feel ready to start the next step which is making healthier choices with the help of a dietician - I start those sessions tomorrow - and a side effect will hopefully be weight loss.
I work in IT, so desk based, and I am finding it hard to go out and exercise at the moment. Our village gym is cheap but very small, so going in alone is daunting (whereas it's easy to be a stranger in a big chain), and I struggle for somebody to walk with in the dark nights as my husband works varying shifts. I do see a personal trainer once a week where we focus on weight lifting - overhead squat for the past few months as it's a challenging movement.
My main hobby these days is my allotment, where we had a successful first year growing all sorts. Between the weather and dark nights there's a bit less to do there right now, but I'm looking forward to it kicking off again in the spring. I also cross stitch in front of the TV, and I'm working on finding the balance between productivity and downtime. It's getting easier.9 -
Good morning WaistAways!
I'm up with my coffee before everyone else gets up, Christmas tree lights on, it's nice. My weight is higher today than yesterday, but I feel bloated, and I'm always better during the work week.
This week is going to be super busy, not looking forward to it, but I am looking forward to poles class, as well as one to teach me how to twerk (lol). And only 1.5 hours today, which is great, I thought I'd signed up for 3 hours of classes and was going to be exhausted, but no! I get to be home by 8ish!
Tonight for dinner is leftover duck in a rice bowl with soft eggs, seaweed, furikake, and soy sauce. I'm looking forward to it. Stuff with Rice is one of my favorite things.
Tag party time:
@ells_bellz I'm very proud of you. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our kids is model being human, and dealing with all the messiness that comes along with it. Modeling being responsible for yourself and your actions this way IS good parenting. Don't beat yourself up. Congratulations for your new start.
@micki48 I'm so glad that you're still here and workin' it.
@ashleycarole I feel this: "I also feel less "in control" that I'd like." But we've both got this. It's a new day today.
Have a great Monday, everyone!5 -
@micki48 I'm glad to hear you're feeling brighter.
@lorraineGB could you fit a water filter jug in your fridge? That's what we do, although how much difference it makes I don't know because OH rarely changes the filters - I drink the tap water albeit with cordial.
I'm tired this morning. I've been having vivid dreams and feeling as though I'm tossing and turning the past few nights. We had quite a busy weekend; I was off work on Friday but filled my day with chores and errands, similar on Saturday, then my grandparents visited yesterday and we had a nice few hours with them including lunch out. Aiming for a quiet few days, but we'll see what happens at work.5 -
Weigh in Day: MONDAY
PW: 190.2
CW: 191.0
It was spa weekend and even though I tracked and stayed within my calories I suspect it was the salt in the restaurant meals. It will be gone in a day or two.7 -
Morning team!
@CupcakeCrusoe Have fun at class tonight! I am up to do the same thing as you.. a moment of calm (coffee and the Christmas tree) before the craziness of the week sets in. Great minds think alike!
@CarolAnnM2 A spa weekend sounds like a phenomenal time! Bet you're starting the week feeling fantastic.
If I go downstairs for coffee and dad isn't up yet I might try to walk my dog before work so I know it gets done. The next couple days are quite cold again so it's not motivating to get outside (and for her at a certain point no longer safe.) So, have to take advantage of the windows!
