@ells_bellz I send big hugs to you for your brave step into sobriety. I “retired” from alcohol in 2011 and haven’t picked it back up. Although seeing ourselves through others’ drunken eyes is a painful experience, it’s a blessing in disguise and you can make the choice each day to not imbibe. Just 24-hours at a time.
Please know I’m in your corner rooting for you! Call or text any time. 802-299-0704.
Regular email is preferable to the message system in here. It is: evelyn.l.adams@gmail.com
Nice deep breathing. Sleep well.

Hi everyone - hope day one of the new month has treated everyone well. I have caught up with all the last November posts and the first of December, and there is a lot going on. My absenteeism the last few days was a function of busyness for the most part. I am not on track.
In terms of my intro:
My name is Ashley, I'm 36 years old, and I'm married to fellow team member and weight loss support person @bowens1973
We live in Alberta and both work full time at demanding jobs with a reasonably long commute. We found out this past week our two days working from home will be reduced to one day in the New Year, so that will making timing even more challenging.
Our home life changed earlier this year when my Mom in her 60s with a few different health issues moved into our basement. Between that and our many pets (my dog, two cats, and her one dog), it's a full house!
For exercise, I enjoy walking, the Peloton, strength training, yoga, hiking and such.
In terms of my weight loss journey, I reached my highest weight ever of 293 in Jan 2021, got on here, and marched my way down to what I want my maintenance range to be (low 160's) earlier this year.
I went on a series of vacations and then came back to immense stress at work, and I'm about 10 pounds higher than I want to be.
What @DD265 posted at the end of November makes sense to me. This 10 pounds feels like a catastrophe, but if I label it a relapse rather than a lapse, it might make itself so.
I have come so far, and I'm working through a tough time. I still feel good, but I also feel less "in control" that I'd like. Doing my best.
We have a couple of new folks this month - welcome!
As co-captain of this team, my role is to host the step challenge. If anyone new is interested in joining:
-provide me your daily step pledge (a combo of your steps and exercise minutes)
-every Sunday, post your steps and minutes of intentional exercise for the Sun-Sat of the week prior. I will convert your exercise minutes to steps
-I'll generate a step report for those that participate. use the extra motivation!!
My dad from Manitoba arrived today and will be here until sometime around Christmas. Next weekend my brother and his fiancee come as well. This has been the first time since I got on track I'll have this much company for this long. I have been feeling very off track and this definitely isn't going to help - feeling out of routine for sure. However, looking forward to the time together.5 -
Nov Week 5 exercise:
Sun - 7245 steps + 61 minutes Peloton
Mon - 10584 steps
Tues - 5936 steps
Wed - 10696 steps
Thurs - 7249 steps
Fri - 2869 steps
Sat - 8537 steps1 -
Quick hello. I’m feeling a bit better today. The scale is down 3 pounds today. Why did I let it defeat me yesterday?! Today I did Pilates for hip release to help with the catchy hip I’ve been having. It’s felt really good. Went to a Messiah Sing with my husband and worked on a puzzle which is relaxing to me. And I don’t eat.
I didn’t fully log or get all my steps. But feel much better today. Sun was out too. Thanks so much for your help friends. I am goi g to stay on the team. @KellyBgetsfit I so appreciate your post. I will pick two things. One is going to be more intentional exercise and also making sure I drink my water. I guess that’s two.
It’s late. I’ve got to get to bed. Hugs.5 -
@micki48
So glad to hear you had a better day and glad you're deciding to stay on the regular team.
While we're all cheering for losses for one another, never feel like if you're not losing that you shouldn't stay on the regular team.
We are here - good or bad.
Sleep well - hugs!6 -
I'm Katie, 34, living near Nottingham in the UK with my husband and our two cats. I'm working on recovering from binge eating disorder, and now feel ready to start the next step which is making healthier choices with the help of a dietician - I start those sessions tomorrow - and a side effect will hopefully be weight loss.
I work in IT, so desk based, and I am finding it hard to go out and exercise at the moment. Our village gym is cheap but very small, so going in alone is daunting (whereas it's easy to be a stranger in a big chain), and I struggle for somebody to walk with in the dark nights as my husband works varying shifts. I do see a personal trainer once a week where we focus on weight lifting - overhead squat for the past few months as it's a challenging movement.
My main hobby these days is my allotment, where we had a successful first year growing all sorts. Between the weather and dark nights there's a bit less to do there right now, but I'm looking forward to it kicking off again in the spring. I also cross stitch in front of the TV, and I'm working on finding the balance between productivity and downtime. It's getting easier.9 -
Good morning WaistAways!
I'm up with my coffee before everyone else gets up, Christmas tree lights on, it's nice. My weight is higher today than yesterday, but I feel bloated, and I'm always better during the work week.
This week is going to be super busy, not looking forward to it, but I am looking forward to poles class, as well as one to teach me how to twerk (lol). And only 1.5 hours today, which is great, I thought I'd signed up for 3 hours of classes and was going to be exhausted, but no! I get to be home by 8ish!
Tonight for dinner is leftover duck in a rice bowl with soft eggs, seaweed, furikake, and soy sauce. I'm looking forward to it. Stuff with Rice is one of my favorite things.
Tag party time:
@ells_bellz I'm very proud of you. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our kids is model being human, and dealing with all the messiness that comes along with it. Modeling being responsible for yourself and your actions this way IS good parenting. Don't beat yourself up. Congratulations for your new start.
@micki48 I'm so glad that you're still here and workin' it.
@ashleycarole I feel this: "I also feel less "in control" that I'd like." But we've both got this. It's a new day today.
Have a great Monday, everyone!5 -
@micki48 I'm glad to hear you're feeling brighter.
@lorraineGB could you fit a water filter jug in your fridge? That's what we do, although how much difference it makes I don't know because OH rarely changes the filters - I drink the tap water albeit with cordial.
I'm tired this morning. I've been having vivid dreams and feeling as though I'm tossing and turning the past few nights. We had quite a busy weekend; I was off work on Friday but filled my day with chores and errands, similar on Saturday, then my grandparents visited yesterday and we had a nice few hours with them including lunch out. Aiming for a quiet few days, but we'll see what happens at work.5 -
Weigh in Day: MONDAY
PW: 190.2
CW: 191.0
It was spa weekend and even though I tracked and stayed within my calories I suspect it was the salt in the restaurant meals. It will be gone in a day or two.7 -
Morning team!
@CupcakeCrusoe Have fun at class tonight! I am up to do the same thing as you.. a moment of calm (coffee and the Christmas tree) before the craziness of the week sets in. Great minds think alike!
@CarolAnnM2 A spa weekend sounds like a phenomenal time! Bet you're starting the week feeling fantastic.
If I go downstairs for coffee and dad isn't up yet I might try to walk my dog before work so I know it gets done. The next couple days are quite cold again so it's not motivating to get outside (and for her at a certain point no longer safe.) So, have to take advantage of the windows!

@ashleycarole86 I do feel fantastic and energetic this morning. It’s a good thing too because these next two weeks before Christmas are going to be super busy. Should be able to keep my steps up easily.
Have a great week Team Waistaways!4 -
Hi everyone!
I had such a busy weekend so apologies for being late for the intros for December.
CW: 188.4
My name is Chelsey, I am 33 years old and live in New England. I’ve struggled with my weight the majority of my life and have come to terms with the idea that I am an emotional eater, and now am looking for non-food de-stressing techniques to help with the emotional eating.
This week I am once again traveling for work. I am bringing my lunch on the first day I have to travel and then after that, I’ll be getting salads from Sweetgreen for lunch because I love them so much. For dinner, I’ll probably choose small plates or something grilled/roasted and has lots of veggies.
I woke up at 5am this morning and got in a 30 minute strength leg and glute workout from Sydney Houdyshell on YouTube. Made a green smoothie for my mid-morning snack with hemp hearts, frozen spinach, a blender mango mix, strawberries, some Greek yogurt, a little milk and water. It was delicious and I still have the other half for tomorrow.
My goals for December:
Get at least 4250 steps a day
Workout at least 20 minutes 4/7 days a week
Enjoy at most 3 alcoholic drinks a week6 -
Weigh in Monday
PW:174.0
CW:173.0
I have been bobbling between 172 and 173, and I hope the number stays below 173 but I have been having a lot more cravings for snacks over the weekend so I need to hit the store and grab more healthy choices to snack on, lately my favorite has been carrot chips. I think subliminally I convince myself I'm eating chips(which I love) but the carrot part makes it healthy and still crunchy.2 -
Hi I'm @annieo22 and I'm new. Wi have to work to get used to everything and meeting everyone.
I've been struggling with my weight since I quit smoking in my 30's (I'm 62 now) and top that off with a stressful life and career as a teacher with health issues, it has taken me years to try to lose instead of gain.
My PW: 168.4
My CW: 167.8
My goal is to keep my daily carb count below 25 and work out 3 times a week.
Good to meet everyone 😊6 -

You made it! Good to see you and have you along on this journey with us. I'm always happy with more people in their 60's I'm hitting 69 in January, and I can attest that getting the weight off at our age is possible and totally worth the effort! It is not easy. But even a small change is going to help you feel so much better. If the low carb method does not work for you, we're a bunch of experimenters here. Every way of working on your diet and exercise is a learning experience. I have found that my body reacts differently now than 10 years ago, so it is always fun be your own experiment and keep adjusting as needed.
I have your weigh-in day as Saturday. Is that what you'd like to stick with? You can change it any time, just let me know here and it shall be done. I take it your name is Annie? If you don't mind sharing where you live (country and area, city - whatever you're comfortable with). It's fun to know where we all are.
Good luck!4 -

@jugar I jogged twice this week at OTF
Wow, what a terrible week of steps! I only hit my goal twice this week and that is when I went to the gym. I really hate how it's cold and dark outside. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Makes me not want to work out! I am going to be starting a new job in the middle of January that is 5 minutes from my house. I can't wait for the shorter commute (currently it's 45 minutes one way) and I hope that will give me more time to get some steps in!
@micki48 I love doing puzzles too and I am currently working on my first 2,000 piece puzzle! I love facebook marketplace because I can sell/buy/trade puzzles for cheap! I got a box of at least 40 puzzles for $20. Now I've just been trading with other people and have new (used) puzzles to do.

@lauren_989 I'm so glad your commute will soon be short! That will help a lot, especially in this dark time of year.

Don't forget!
Weigh-ins due through today:
@ells_bellz
@MoonlitMuse
We have no Tuesday people this month, so we can relax about weighing in for a day. Ahhh. Have a good one!1 -
Hello team!
This month marks 3 year with this group. I might not be at my goal but I would for sure be back at my start weight or heavier with out this team! I'm Kristi in Spokane, Washington in the US. I'm 40, married for 15 years and we have 3 kids age 8. 11 and 13. I have 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs. I work 4 days a week as a school based occupational therapist at a preschool center. I'm also working on my Masters degree.
I went to the wellness coaches office today and got the butt kicking I need to get back at. Our discussion was around my lack of motivation lately. I was sick for an extended period of time with a nasty cold. I was able to maintain my results while I was sick. Guess what, it takes a lot less effort to maintain. I kind of became complacent with my progress. I need to put in a lot more effort to see progress. I just was getting a little to comfortable. Well, the wellness coach made things uncomfortable pretty fast. I have a new plan that focuses on reducing insulin spikes to promote fat loss. I know a few others are stuck so I will list the details below if anyone wants to try any of these.
December Goals
✔ Eat 1500 calories a day
✔Macro targets 40% protein 30% fat 30% carbs
✔Eat 3 meals a day each 500 calories
✔ No snacks at all😦 reduce insulin spike frequency through out the day
✔Eat between breakfast and 6:30 PM😭🥺
✔ 30 grams of fiber a day
✔2 TBSP apple cider vinegar before every meal
✔ HIIT workouts 30 minutes 4 x week
Can't say I'm super thrilled about this plan but it is doable. I can have whatever I like as long as it fits the macros. The idea is to not change the food too much but instead manipulate the meal timing. 3 eating opportunities instead of my normal 5 reduces the number of times my body makes insulin. HIIT workouts help deplete excess insulin stored in my muscles. The fiber and apple cider vinegar improve gut health and encourages the formation of short chain fatty acids which helps burn fat. Fasting for 12 hours will also help with insulin. I definitely have a lot to work on.5
