Welcome all newbie's, this is a great group!
I'm Loraine from London England but living in Springfield Missouri.
I've bounced up and down all my life but am more focused about my future health than ever before, probably because I've just turned 59 and I have so many plans for travel in my retirement that I need to be of good habits and mindset to ensure it all happens without a hitch.
Saying that, I've just got back from a trip to Cancun at an all inclusive resort. It was a greatly needed trip after a few awful weeks but we went with friends who like us, really like to eat and drink. I overdid it every day, I started with good intentions by having scrambled egg on toast for breakfast but as soon as I got to the pool, I was fully committed to getting my money's worth and sabotaging myself.
Whilst it was a great trip, I have realised I cannot be trusted at an all inclusive resort. If I got a do over, I would certainly do it differently, good news for my trips going forward - our next one is in four weeks and then we have another beach vacay July 4th (thankfully neither are all inclusive).
I had zero Zero days on vacay. But today, I am on my way to a really good Zero day. I've got the food nailed, the exercise nailed and I just have to do a couple of things to set me up for the rest of the week.
Today me is focused on tomorrow me. It feels good to be back in a structured routine
I'm glad it's the start of the month as my gain on Friday would ruin my green streak.6 -
@jugar Thanks for the encouragement. I'm only 3 more sleeps away from my 2nd hip replacement so I'm not going to worry about the scale today or next week. Once I am back on my feet in a few days things will come back to normal weight loss mode.8

Hi I'm Michele, 58, from Pennsylvania, USA. I have been with this group for 4 years now and have learned so much from everyone. I currently have a load of stress in my life as we just sold a house in NC and are buying one in the Philadelphia area. I work full time as a full time PreK teacher. My weight has finally started to go down a bit after gaining 20 pounds in the year after we moved. Still have not broken into Onderland again, but I will by my birthday in June. My low, right before the pandemic was 188, then up up and stayed at 196 for a YEAR. Then down to 192 before we moved a year ago. Up 20 pounds and now I'm at 204 ish. I'm doing what I can right now in my crazy life. I can see the light and I know it will soon be more settled. Thankfully, I have learned a lot and changed my eating over the last 4 years with this wonderful group. I am currently not logging and I KNOW that helps, but it is not likely to happen right now. But, it will be ok. Glad to have all the new members join us. Great group.
Goals this month. Keep losing whatever I can. Drink water. Check in here.

Wow! Had no idea my steps were 11,000 better than last week. I must have been busy. LOL8 -
Thanks @jugar , you are a wonderful captain and friend and you always know how to lift us up and give us what we need.
I was pretty surprised to see my name on there this month! It's a mindset issue for sure. I'm feeling the blahs which you've very astutely picked up on (not that I'm great at hiding it.. let's be honest LOL). So I'm not exactly in a success mindset.
I'll admit I had a wild and wicked crazy binge last night. It was bad.
But, I dusted myself off today, and I had many wins:
-calories below target
-a one hour Peloton class which makes me feel REALLY good
-choosing the zero calorie beverage at my free work lunch
-water (I've been slacking)
-10 push-ups
-not beating myself up for the binge (yes I'm acknowledging it but I'm moving on)
I've always been a binge eater, and I miraculously seemed to pause it for over a year, and now I'm sorta on the slip and slide. I've heard sort of anecdotally that after a huge weight loss it's not uncommon to start bingeing.. but I mean, I always did. So really, I'm trying to figure out the long term plan to remove that from my life.
I don't feel restricted or anything.. I allow myself the things I want..
Anyway, I know my success comes from doing good things, treating myself well, and just letting the tiny habits build on themselves. It's fighting against the need for everything to be perfect to be good.
So hey! Today is a good day, but they can't all be. The key is having more good days than bad.
I want to end April lighter than I started it. Let's go!

@TessieMac833
Welcome back! Stress does a number on our weight loss plans, as @micki48 mentioned as well. Your goals sound wonderful. Walking is one of my favorite things to do... sounds like a good way to get some movement and enjoy the nice weather.
@micki48
You're touching on something that crosses my mind a lot. Even though I'm not exactly where I want to be, the good habits being here has built within me means any backslide is a lot less impactful than it would have been otherwise. That counts for a lot!4 -
@Gidgitgoescrzy
Got you down for April! Happy to have you joining.1 -
@CarolAnnM2 wishing you a very smooth surgery for hip 2. You'll be unstoppable!!3
-
I'm glad to see the positivity shining through for April - the sun is shining through too (though it's very cold today) and both things are helping my mindset for sure.
@CarolAnnM2 good luck with your surgery: I hope everything goes well!
It's Tuesday which means early morning PT. I had a late night - didn't sit down until 9pm after an appointment and jobs. I've started playing a computer game and I can burn hours, so it was 11pm by the time I started getting ready for bed, to be up at 5.30am. Training was good and we went back to the overhead squat with a few small things to work on. The fastest way to improve is going to be resistance bands and sprints - I have some old workout routines written down from when I first began training that I can fall back to.
OH is working the late again today, so I have a curry ready meal out of the freezer (trying to use everything up/make space for full-on batch cooking) and I plan to take a little less on, although I need to get some wrapping paper and a card for OH's birthday on Sunday and I might get that out of the way. Plus if I go to the designer outlet, I got a flattering vest top to take on holiday and I may be able to pick up a couple more.6 -
Well yesterday was a complete bust, I snacked and snacked and did not exercise, and that rolled into this morning.... I gotta get it together... I am just not sure why my brain works the way it does, it knows I want to do this, but it's like no, just one more day of eating whatever... UGH
Today will be a good day, even if I didn't exercise this morning, I can do it when I get home...
8 -
I totally get you @Gidgitgoescrzy, my brain is the same! I want to exercise in the evenings, even just a few planks and simple weights, nothing I even need to change my outfit for... But no. I continue to sit on the couch and binge watch tv until bedtime. And then scroll on my phone instead of sleep.
Ugh. Progress needs to be made!
@CarolAnnM2 can't wait to see how lively you end up post-surgery #2! Hope it's a speedy recovery6 -
Happy April All!
My name is Ashley and while I'm a native Ohioan, I've lived just outside of Glacier National Park in NW Montana for 2.5 years now. I'm pretty sure our Canadians are my closest neighbors in this group! I'm a Registered Dietitian working for the IHS and the Blackfeet nation. I'm also a 500hr yoga teacher and am working on becoming an NBC-HWC (Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach) through Legacy Holistic Health Institute and can work with people to get my sessions needed to sit for the exam in Nov.
I'm 34 and recently married (I was dragging my feet for...well...forever) and we have an almost 16-year old son. I'm a proud cat mom to 5 and a dog mom to a year old Alusky named Atlas. My husband is a former Marine and combat vet with some really serious PTSD, so we don't really get out much and do normal people things. However, we love being in the wilderness hiking, kayaking, backpacking, etc. and we'll be doing a lot more since he's planning on doing the PNT and/or the CDT next year.
I try to be as active as I can most days of the week. I suffer from a lot of joint/muscle pain and fatigue that can be really prohibitive. I thought that I was just out of shape (even though it literally made no sense), but it turns out that I have hEDS. So now I try to be a little more forgiving with my body. I love to lift weights, practice asana, Pilates, HIIT, bike, and run. I'm training for the Glacier Half Marathon...but we'll see how my body holds up in the process. I'm a Garmin junkie so if any of our new members want to connect, my profile is here
My goals are loosely weight based. I was always a petite person until I started working desk jobs. This is my highest weight ever, but I've been doing a lot of resistance work, so I'm hoping that part of it has been the muscle noob-gains. I'm more focused on body recomposition than anything in hopes that I can gain/strengthen enough muscle to help stabilize my joints and keep me active.

So last Tuesday I was working out and cracked my ankle on a piece of equipment. There was just this whole cascade of pain for the rest of the week in the rest of my body. I couldn't even stand long enough to make dinner, so that was super annoying. I don't know if it was related, but it was definitely coincidental. That means that I only did 2 runs last week and skipped the long one. I'll hit it this week since from now on, my long ones will be 10k+ and I can't fit that in during work anymore. I'll have to run outside on Saturdays and I've been waiting for the weather to break.
I also told my guys that I noticed my weight creeping up steadily since they started having me take the extra serving of dinner for lunch the following day. I'm going back to my original lunches to see how that affects things. I also got myself a super cute Blendjet (in Geode) so I can make my smoothies on the run without waking up the whole house in the morning.

Oh my gosh @MoonlitMuse I just looked up blendjets and they have a rainbow leopard print one and now I have to convince myself I don't need one, haha. Mostly because I only want smoothies every once in a blue moon.
I wonder if I could find rainbow leopard meal prep containers, however....4 -
@CupcakeCrusoe oooo, you found the Lisa Frank one! Yeah, those are pretty! I have to figure out the best ratios now to use in a smaller blender, but I go through phases with smoothies and apparently I'm in the midst of one right now!
Also - fun little challenge I found. I was reading an article by another RD and she recommends 30 different fruits/veggies/herbs throughout the week for a healthy microbiome. I preach this to my people all the time (along with probiotics), but I've never actually seen how diverse my diet is. As of yesterday, I started seeing how many different F/V and herbs I eat to see if I can hit the 30. It really doesn't seem all that difficult, but we'll see. If you guys decide to participate, each F/V= 1point and herbs/spices=.25points7 -

I love this! It will be interesting to see what my "score" is, hmm...
According to last week's records, I scored 17.5. I eat the same thing for breakfasts and lunches every week, maybe I should switch it up (or at least put different things on top of my overnight oats).4 -
@ashleycarole86 - nice to know it's not just me with the binging tendancies. I'm in the same boat as you and trying to find ways to manage my emotions without eating.
@CarolAnnM2 best of luck on the surgery
@LoraineGB so many trips in the next while. I imagine Cancun was amazing regardless of the eating
@TessieMac833 good decision to come back. I'm new to going back to school too and also work full time - it's no joke taking classess along with life, It's stressful.

Greetings Friends!
Just popping in for a rapid scout about! @MoonlitMuse I could actually feel your ankle during your mishap. I think that my ankle must be one of my body weak points as I always seem to go over on it. Painful, but thankfully temporary discomfort! Rest well.
@CarolAnnM2 Good luck with Hip No.2 - you'll definitely be unstoppable!
@Jugar good to hear that your pop is in rehabilitation - only good things from now on, eh?
Also @jugar and @ashleycarole86 I'm off to the Netherlands tomorrow, so can I please be excused from this coming Sunday's weigh-in? I'll be away for a week. Spending Easter with my sister and her family.

Wow! I missed a bit of time in there, and so many great messages are happening! I was able to come home today, and I am exhausted but I feel better about where things are with my dad and step-mom. She was finding it really hard to step over the threshold where now she lives alone, but this episode made it happen quickly. She is finding it very hard, but now that the decision part is over, she has no choice but to begin the adaptation. So, lots of emotions, lots of work making sure the rehab place is doing all the right things for my dad (they are a bit chaotic and have bad communications practices ), and lots of getting organised for his move to the long-care home. I think once he is there, it will calm down and feel better for everyone.
But I made it home! It will feel good to get back to my routines, and then I head out to Alberta on the 13th. I just have to do a better job at fitting in my workouts. I have not done too badly on food (except for today...), I have walked a lot, but I need my good strength and Pilates sessions to get myself calmed back down.
I'm going to try tracking all the fruits/veggies/herbs for the week, @MoonlitMuse . That is a great idea! Do seeds count??5 -

Morning all!
I’m Chelsey, 33-years, married, and one dog who just celebrated his 7th birthday on April 1st! I still can’t believe it. I live in New England, and I am thrilled that the weather is finally getting warmer which means longer walks outside.
I hit my lowest weight back in 2020, when I was working from home everyday and had time to workout in the afternoon and take long walks after work with my husband and dog. I switched jobs in 2021, and while I absolutely love what I do, it was an adjustment with a new busy schedule, COVID related tasks, and travel.
Now that I'm into year 2 of my new role, I think I am finally getting into a good groove and the stress is starting to go away. I work in Human Resources as a Business Partner, and a lot of times, it has felt like we get things thrown at us from everywhere. I am now changing my mindset about work items, and I am no longer working 12+ hours a day daily.
So far this week, I have done a hot yoga class on Sunday, and a strength workout and some flexibility work on Monday. I felt very sore on Tuesday, so I opted to use that as a rest day, and in less than an hour, I have a spin class at my local studio! 😊
Nutrition wise, Sunday and Monday were decent because I pre-logged and stuck to it, but yesterday I went "off script" and had a bowl of ice cream after dinner. I did a preliminary weigh-in this morning to check how I am doing, and I think I am on track for a loss this week which is fantastic, and a nice reminder that one bowl of ice cream is not going to undo all the other good work I have done so far this week.
Happy Wednesday all!5 -
Hello all, Sylvia, 53, in Massachusetts USA. Reading @ashleycarole86 and @TessieMac833 intros, I feel like we're in the same boat. Lost a lot in 2020 and the creep back up has been steady. My factors...sedentary office job, outside of that the caregiver for 93 yr old dad, and the last year and a half, family health care issues have taken center stage. (brother update: tolerating chemo well, sight regained in one eye, stress will ramp up again when 3rd round done and the what next comes).
I know what works for me (logging obsession) but the mindset needs to be there (and that mysterious switch in my brain flipped on). I'm ready to try again for April. @Gidgitgoescrzy let's get back on that horse!! I had a crazy eating day yesterday-never again Rice Crispie treats! I just put on my fitbit @ashleycarole86, sign me up for 5,000 steps pls...starting low but realistic.
The grill has been fired up...tis the season for grilled asparagus!7 -
@jugar glad you're back home after what sounds like a difficult time with your dad (although your exercise 'game' with him sounds wonderful); hope your stepmom has a good social network for support.
I did weigh last Thursday 174. I will stay unofficial for this month but will still weigh in please.
@PlaneMonkey I'm with you on the lack of exercise motivation. I'm hoping planning, with the nicer weather, to at least go for a 20 minute walk in the evening. With gardening season here, there will be more incidental exercise too. Planks? not for me.6 -
Weigh in Day: Wednesday

It's funny... looks like I had no change this week, but that scale was actually all over the place! It just happened to land right back where it was a week ago! LOL6 -
CW 176.4
That made me sad, but it was 178 earlier in the week, so it is, what it is.
Yesterday wasn't great, but not as bad as monday, no exercise got done, and I have not even hit my step goal yet. UGHHHHHH
Now the good news, I got up this morning and exercised. Even though it's only 10 minutes, it seems to set the tone for the day...
I booked for an adventure in June, so far now, I have a camping trip every month from now thru September... Some are cabin, some are tent... husband complains about tenting being too much work, but I actually find it easier than cabins. So I'm trying to mix it up to keep him happy.
Have a great day !

Happy Wednesday!
It feels so good to be home, but I am really tired. I'll keep the goals for the day modest - super duper really clean healthy food, zero alcohol, at least a walk outside, a short Pilates session. Breathe. Make some yogurt and soup (the kitchen is my relaxing place - while listening to audiobook!).
Hugs to you all - hope you are having a non-zero day7 -
@YinxFed Seeds definitely count! Yay for healthy fats!2
-
What a day of insane weather ice, thunder, lightning, sleet, rain, you name it. I actually decided to stay in today after a very brief foray this morning before it all started. Happy full moon!
We have another new member who will hopefully find her way here to the chat - welcome @strong_fit_ells
MFP seems to be really wonky today, or maybe it is just my bad internet connection in bad weather?3 -
I guess it is bad everywhere...
This has been a slight improvement on yesterday, but not quite the day I had hoped. Here is what I hoped for:- super duper really clean healthy food YES except for tiny chocolate chips with nuts as snack
- zero alcohol NOPE. had a beer with dinner
- at least a walk outside very very short. then the weather got super nasty
- a short Pilates session. YEP
- Breathe. still breathing
- Make some yogurt and soup (the kitchen is my relaxing place - while listening to audiobook!). YES and also made GF bread for the hubby. The soup was AMAZING (vegan split pea. such a good supper)
Hopes were higher than reality, but at least reality was not zero. Don't worry if you don't live up to every expectation, as long as the final tally is not zero. I had a slow day, but not a terrible one.
How about you wonderful folks???? I hope MFP is not inaccessible today4 -
Hi everyone!
Thank you for accepting me into the group.
My name is Ells and I'm 45 years old. I am married and have three children: teenage boys 🤦
I am starting this challenge at my heaviest weight of 238lbs 😩
I am trying a lite bit of intermittent fasting to get my motivation going.
I work in hotel, I'm a cook, receptionist, barmaid, cleaner.... 🏃🤦😁
I do a lot of steps but my weight is still high because I chose bad foods on the run 😩
@jugar my weight last Sunday was 236.9lbs - just to catch up 😊
Have a lovely Thursday everyone 🥰4 -
@jugar the weather is nuts! We've been without power since 11am and lots of trees are down all over. My tabata class tonight was cancelled due to the weather, hopefully things will recover by tomorrow so hockey isn't cancelled
Eating has not been fantastic as I'm limited for cooking methods. It's carbs central here.
It will be an early night, hopefully I will avoid the revenge bedtime procrastination that has been limiting my sleep lately.4
