My goal was to get under 600 this month, but I forgot how wild the first couple weeks of losses can be. It is neat to see this big jump, but it also makes me realize how bad I was mistreating myself that just by eating correctly I can lose so much. Onward!

    @NachDeezy A wonderful first step! Yes...onward!

I have a step conversion ...was your swimming, leisure, moderate effort, treading water or vigorous effort and for how long? leisure is 133 x how long ... moderate effort is 174 x how long...treading water is 49 x how long and vigorous effort is 222 x how long

Oh cool! I swam laps for 66 minutes with a few pauses in there so let's call it 60 mins. I have a snorkel I use so I don't have to concentrate on breathing. Love the silence and my ability to destress. This was my first time back in months so let's call it a leisurely pace. Thank you

I never thought of using a snorkel. I think I would end up with a mouthful of water. Sometimes I go a bit to low when doing the breast stroke. Do you have trouble with getting water in the snorkel when you turn your head when doing the front crawl?

Fantastic loss! Is this a diet you plan to follow?

Hi Linda, thank you! Many years ago I followed the Dukan diet, and it worked for me very well until I stopped dieting. 🙄
I know that dieting doesn't work for me, so I'm trying to stick with a healthier lifestyle.

I just googled the Dukan diet. Why do you need oat bran everyday?

Hi Linda, in order to maintain bowel regularity, the Dukan Diet recommends that oat bran is consumed regularly.

"I think I will order one from Amazon. I mostly do breast stroke as my form is not the greatest with the front crawl."

This is exactly why I got the snorkel. Being able to keep my head down and breathe normal and relax allowed me the ability to slowly swim the front crawl. Also, I wasn't going under water before with breast stroke and now I can. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Good morning team! Made sure to move lots yesterday. Still not feeling the greatest. Getting my steps will be a challenge as I have a 4 hour silent retreat on zoom today. Not looking forward to 4 hours of meditation.

    Question:
If you don’t eat all your supper do you change your diary? For example, if you weighed your chicken but only ate half.

@lindamtuck2018 i will change my food diary if I don’t eat a large portion of what I logged. I’ll usually weigh the uneaten portion and adjust. If it’s a nominal amount, I don’t bother.

And ….. I am so curious about what a silent retreat is and why it’s on zoom. For me, a four hour meditation is just a nap at that point. But, I super curious about what you’re doing

The 4 hours of meditation was not as bad as I thought it would be. I felt totally drain but relaxed afterwards. I worked hard to try and get my steps. I came up short but still proud of myself. I was debating whether to go to the pool but I think I will give myself another day.

    Have a great Thursday!

In my world I call that a nap.

Kidding aside....wow to you for being present for 4 hours!

Very nice loss! I am glad you recognized that coming back to mfp is progress. With my binge eating I tend to do it at night so no one will know how much I ate. You are right, when you hit “rock bottom “ there is only one way to go: up. Take baby steps. I believe in you.

I LOVE the snorkel. I would sputter and choke and not exert enough energy or proper form without it. I, myself, do not turn my head when doing the breast stroke. I feel more comfortable keeping my face down at all times. But others do. I have never gotten water in even when I used to turn. I have the seago swim snorkel if you want an example. I swim at a new training facility built last year for competitions and nearly everyone practices with a snorkel. I highly recommend 👌

I think I will order one from Amazon. I mostly do breast stroke as my form is not the greatest with the front crawl.

So I only gained 1.2 pounds for the two weeks...which I'm thrilled...now tomorrow my cycle returns (yay ...back to fasting 🎉)

However when I do my extended fasts should I not weigh myself weekly because it really messes up the whole timeline of weight loss?

Looking at my timeline (I know it's been only a month since I started Fast like a Girl protocol) so far I'm really pleased with the results....I'm changing my diet for the better and making healthy decisions.

I think you need to look at your weight overall. As long as you are having a downward trend you are ok. Do you log your weight in happy scale or another app? I found it very helpful.

Hi Greg, I think that you became an athlete and now your body is burning a lot more calories for energy.
About 2 decades ago it happened to me, and I got extremely skinny in a way that some people thought I was sick. However, I was eating healthy, and I was jogging 5km almost daily. I had so much energy when I achieved my physical fitness. Are you feeling great? 😁

Your doctor should request blood tests, and the results hopefully will be better than ever.

"Exercise is very important for gaining weight. Intense bodyweight training strengthens your muscles and also stokes your fat-burning engine. Endurance sports like running or biking are also important for your health, but they burn a lot of calories without really stimulating muscle growth."

P.s: I was in my 30ths and single. After 3 years or so, I started dating and stopped training. 😣

Your progress motivated me. Yesterday I jogged 1km, and today I will try to go a little further.

Wishing the best achievement for everyone!

Will Easter candy be an issue? Nope. I have had it around the house for a month now. Dairy is a throat punch so commercial chocolate is not appetizing. I plan on sugaring up the grand.

We don't have kids and my hubby has been doing no sugar since Jan 1 so it shouldn't be a problem. But I would love candy. Jellybeans. Also, I typically love spring baking - carrot cake, coconut cake, cinnamon rolls, etc. I really would love to bake but since hubby is off sugar and I'm doing vegan diet, I won't bake this easter. Makes me a little sad as I love baking and holiday traditions but I'll live.

Chocolates and treats are already in the break room at work. I did have a milk chocolate peanut butter egg today but armed and ready for tomorrow’s afternoon sugar craving. Weekend should be better since there’s no chocolate temptations at home. I do plan on cooking and making a citrus cake but it’s the chocolate that’s my weakness. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter!

Hope you’re feeling better. So interesting about the zoom retreat. I’d definitely be my zen space if not asleep lol sometimes I’ll put meditations on YouTube and it’s just so relaxing.

For your question it depends on how much food. If it’s half a chicken breast I’d change it. If it’s a bite I wouldn’t. I’m trying not to be such a stickler about my diary. There have been times in the past when I was obsessive about being precise. Back then I’d get annoyed if someone took a bite off my plate or if I dropped some food on the floor after I had already measured my plate. I’m glad I’m not there anymore. If I had to guess I’d say if it would change my diary +/-50 calories I’d change it.

I know it’s a bit frustrating but it sounds like you’re having great NSVs. I think you may need to give it a few months to see the pattern. I was hesitant to join this group because of the weekly weigh in because I tend to fluctuate a lot at certain phases and because of that usually only weigh once a month. I haven’t tried any fasting techniques but interested in how it relates to your cycle. I’ve read about certain foods to eat during certain phases but haven’t tried any of it. Will have to look up the fasting book. I know I’m not any help here but give your body a little more time to adjust to this new way and trust the process. You will get there!

Dr Mindy Pelz is on YouTube if your interested...she has a lot of videos a long with Dr Jason Fung... another favorite.

Thanks for reaching out....I know I am very impatient and I will definitely give it more time. So far I like where I'm headed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve heard some great things so I’ll check it out more and actually try implementing. Can’t wait to hear more about how this is going for you. How long did it take you to work up to the longer fasting windows? Wishing you the best!

Had my bloodwork done about a month ago and my Doctor literally couldn't find one thing for me to work on. What a turnaround. I feel amazing. I'm more concerned about having to buy new clothes again haha.

Two months into Maintenance and I still have to tell myself it's OK to indulge every so often.

And that's amazing that you started running again. I'm so happy to be doing it again

I am going to enjoy the meal, and try to have small helpings of only the very best offerings and avoid the rest. I have no idea what is on the menu. I will allow myself a drink or two since we are providing the alcohol :)

    Weigh Day Thursday

    PW: 152.2
    CW: 153.9

Linda I realized I wasn't following your format to submit my weigh-in so I have fixed it for this week.

One step forward and 2 steps back on the scale this week. I know exactly why this happened but can't seem to get my head in the game. I have a loss but instead of leveraging that win, I let my guard down and it shows on the scale. My goal this week will be to focus on moderation. I tend to drink my calories when my guard is down...

Showing up even when you have a gain is a win. I see some have a few bad weeks and just quit. Keep coming back whether you lose, stay the same or gain. Keep reading everyone’s post and ask for help if you need it. There is a wealth of knowledge in this group. We all have different stories and some maybe similar to others. Moderation and mindfulness is a good thing when eating always.

I am doing a mindfulness based group to help with pain. They are still doing things on zoom since Covid. Week 6 was the silent retreat. They teach you different meditations throughout the course. There is a walking meditation, movement, body scan and a few others. By the end we can pick the ones we like. Each week we have to pick an activity to do mindfully. We have to practice mindful eating at least once a week. During the silent retreat the doctor lead us through all the different meditations so not all were sitting. All the participants have been referred by their pain specialist.
