It was a beautiful day here too, Nanc. I only really got to enjoy it on the drive home though. I worked late and then had work to do when I got home. I don't do the overnight oats either.

    Stuck to the plan today.
B - roasted broccoli, a few walnut halves, banana
L - leafside broccoli alfredo (not a favorite)
    D - big ol' salad

Planned to eat an orange but I'm just finishing up some work and need to get to bed. Tomorrow I have to leave a little early for a hair appointment and have a strength class at 6:30. I am really trying to stick with the workouts no matter how crazy my work life.

Mihani, I am in awe of how you fit it all in.

Nanc, glad you are getting some sunny weather over there. When are you scheduled to go back to work? How is the knee healing comparing to the first time?

Yesterday we had a stir fry over quinoa for dinner. Breakfast was a smoothie. I had a run-in with 2 different ezekiel english muffins during the day unfortunately. The struggle is real.

Today's plan is once again a smoothie and stir fry for dinner. I have a nice looking mango front and center in the fridge so I will have some of that in the afternoon when I need a little something.

I am happy with the results of my recent dye experiments. I tried 5 different materials with the same technique. Since this isn't an art forum, i'll leave it at that and include a pic.

update: put on my fitbit for the first time in 3 or 4 months. glad I finally did.
1st walk with dogs was 1500 steps for a basic loop around most of the pasture with no extras. pretty easy to double that distance by including the side areas, and then from there can do multiple loops. Right now I'm doing 3 walks with the dogs each day and I"m going to start on the treadmill again, but slowly so I don't get injured. Maybe just a 4th walk of about the same length with minor hills.

Very pretty, Carla! What do you plan to do with the fabric? Excellent walking going on. When does Ruby get to go off leash again? I'm thinking about joining a walking group that is doing a 10 week training.

Got my hair cut then strength class. It was a good class and I feel like I'm getting back to where I was before the disastrous December when I got all kinds of derailed.

My salads this week are green and red leaf lettuce, yellow squash, pickled red onion, red grapes, roasted mini peppers. I used to eat grapes in salads all the time and forgot how much I enjoy that.

@Carla_wpfpb It's so pretty...love the picture...feel free to post all your projects...it is who you are...and we love it. Very artistic!

I agree with @Carla_wfpb, not sure how to get it all done, @Mihani ...especially going to strength class or any class AFTER a day's work. Very impressive.

Hope you're doing better, @Marilynsretired ...love the snoopy graphic! Lulu and I are definitely in each other's hearts...she follows me out to the living room in the middle of the night. I love it.

    Had 6 week post-op yesterday...not so great! consoling2.gif
I have two weeks to get a better bend in my knee, otherwise he will perform a procedure called MANIPULATION UNDER ANESTHESIA.

I really have to be more diligent about doing my exercises at home...daily! Multiple times, daily!

Yesterday I missed breakfast but had it at lunch and then I had dinner.

    coffee with np
no breakfast...was nervous about appointment and had no appetite
    oatmeal
    soup
    watermelon
    homemade vegan muffin

I am up in the middle of the night...but I did sleep four hours, almost straight through, which is pretty good for me.

    today's meals

    cofffee with np

I have some liquid JUSt egg that I need to use up...hmmmmm...think I will have it for lunch

    oatmeal with add ins
liquid just egg made into a wrap...or I'm not sure...maybe onions and peppers only...we'll see
more SOUP...still eating it...made a huge batch...and I kinda like not having to think about ONE meal...yesterday I added my left over sushi rice to it...good thing I love this soup.

fresh strawberries, courtesy of my sister
    muffin and tea

Make it delish, won't you sweet peas!

I hope you're able to get the bend you need in the 2 weeks you have, Nanc! Fresh strawberries, muffin and tea. Yum!

Mihani, I will put some grapes in my next salad! I love strawberries in a salad too.

There are 5 different fabrics that I dyed using the same technique. I have a sateen fabric that is great for quilting. Has a bit of a sheen to it but nothing overwhelming. The one in the photo is a woven hemp that I'm going to use for table runners, placemats, napkins and/or wall hanging with hand stitching. It would work well for light clothing if I knew how to sew worth a darn. I did a cotton tea towel, too. It came hemmed and ready to dye so that is a super easy option.

Ruby was limping this morning. That's sobering. We have been more and more lenient as it gets to her appointment (April 26). This morning we did a very abbreviated walk and maybe only one more short one later today to stretch her legs. We'll go from there.

We are trying to plan a trip to see Joe's mom and sister in May but still haven't purchased plane tickets. I think I mentioned before that we have an acquaintance from the local art center that is interested in house/pet sitting. She and her husband are coming over on Friday to meet Ruby, Radar, and Kittens. If all goes well we will try things out for this shorter trip and then see about future trips.

Sorry to hear recovery isn't progressing so well, Nanc. Hope you are able to get more bend before they have to do anything else to you. How do you make your cabbage soup?

Awwww, Carla! I just love Ruby's sweet face. I sure hope she's not having a setback. Maybe she and Nanc need to team up for PT. I miss strawberries but I had a mild allergic reaction to them a few years ago and have avoided them since. It wasn't terrible but my throat kind of closed up a bit and I haven't wanted to test it.

Marilyn, how are things going with your prep for dialysis? I hope you are feeling better.

I decided to sign up for the walking group. We'll meet one evening per week for 10 weeks. I think it will be fun and might help motivate me to walk more on the other days of the week.

B - last of the roasted broccoli, a few walnut halves, 2 brazil nuts
L - Dr. McD soup, half a package of frozen mixed veggies (lima beans, carrots, corn - added dijon, a little bragg's and nooch and they were pretty good that way)
D - big ol' salad, an ezekiel muffin with a smidge of PB

    Good Morning!

So much going on and I felt I could not post. I did keep up reading posts and being inspired by this group.

Due to all the anemia I have had and the iron transfusions I succumbed to all the nay sayers who said to eat red meat. I was tired of being sick and tired that for 6 months I added meat back to my diet. Results: Hold your hat on: I gained weight, my cholesterol and LDL went up and guess what.....did not affect my iron levels one tiny bit. Seems I had more iron transfusions during this time and felt LOUSY. Even more than the normal anemia tiredness.

So at the end of January I went back to 90% fruit, vegetables, beans and nuts plus fish. I have much more energy. Last iron transfusion was in Feb. I found a chewable iron supplement that absorbs well. The cause of the anemia continues to be the huge hiatal hernia (my stomach sits above the diaphragm in my chest) and the Cameron lesions that bleed. Pre op appointment is April 24!!! Hopefully surgery sometime in May. I have lost the 20 lbs I gained last year. Still more to go but it was depressing to see that scale go up.

I was diagnosed with Celiac's last summer requiring giving up flour. Then in Dec. I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease requiring low sodium diet, no chocolate or coffee. So my biggest struggle has always been with coffee creamer....I thought I could switch to decaf...no not the same...I think I lost weight by not drinking so much coffee creamer. :D I have hot teas in the morning and it took a few weeks to adjust but this has been the year of eliminating so much from my diet. I also have walked away from sugar and lately...just lately sugar free drinks.

Since I am not jumping out of bed to make my cappuccino first thing in the a.m.....I stumble onto the Peloton bike and ride 15-25 minutes then walk dogs after breakfast. Still need to incorporate weights. Mihani I admire your commitment.

Mihani - You are almost to the finish line of your busy season!!!Yay, hang in there.

Carla -- How is Ruby today? Maybe she is just going to have a few ups and downs until she is completely healed.

Magic - You are so brave. A friend described the pain with PT unrelenting for a long time. Now she is back on the tennis courts after having both knees done. You will get there. She had to have one knee manipulated under anesthesia too. Yikes.

Marilyn - Hugs and prayers for your health as you prepare for dialysis.

Bisky, so happy to see you back here. You have really been dealing with a LOT. How is Brooks doing? And the pups?

Super busy day and just now eating a little dinner after a tough workout. My legs felt like jelly during class.

B - ezekiel english muffin with a smidge of kite hill, heirloom orange
L - leftover frozen veggies and leafside pea soup (I like that one)
D - big ol' salad, another english muffin with a smidge of PB (felt like I needed more food after that workout!)

Tomorrow I'm meeting up with friends after work and will have a martini. The martinis are a new thing for me never really cared for them but they have a pomegranate one and I like it. I can sit and sip on one for an hour or better and not drink more than that. If I'm hungry I'll order a salad or I'll just wait until I get home.

Going to be in the office all weekend but I'm taking next weekend all to myself. Can't wait! Might even leave early next Friday.

Mihani, Brooks has been in remission for over a year now with the oral cancer. He has 2 triathlons planned this summer. He has 22 months until retirement.

Pups are all good. Charley Bear, aka Mr. Grubby pants is slowing down as Texas heats up. I can get him to walk 1.5-2 miles but as it gets hotter I have to carry water for him and be walking early in the day. Gave up thinking that walking dogs is exercise. Just enjoy the momentsoqwusyozd55i.jpeg. Cleo is my perfect little dog. Always ready to walk, sleep or eat.
. I am loving the Peloton bike. We are trying to attach the screen to a T.V. so I can do all the yoga classes and some weight lifting classes they offer. I am looking into therapeutic yoga classes in San Antonio.

I enjoy fruity martinis. Especially Tanqueray Rangpur...a gin made with rangpur limes and other botanicals. Good with pomegranate or cranberry juice.

    gardensmiley.gif Morning everyone!

Mid of the night as usual...ugh. But since I am not working...it's not too bad. I stay up for awhile and then back to sleep then up and get ready for PT.

Ruby is soooooooo beautiful, those eyes, @Carla_wfpb ...her colors...so pretty.

And Cleo...adorable, @bisky ...and so good to have you back...and thanks for the 411 regarding your friend and her experience with TKR. Glad you are now back on the road to good health.

@Mihani here is the ingredients for the cabbage soup:

    Ingredients

1 onion, diced, (about 2 cups)
    2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
    3 large chopped carrots
    1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
    1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 -15 ounce can crushed tomatoes
    2 cups veggie broth
    5 cups water
1 medium cabbage, thinly sliced (10-12 cups)
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Parmesan cheese to serve

Saute the first three ingredients...you know the drill...add the spices ... warm up a tiny bit...add the tomatoes and let them all get to know each other. Then add the veggie broth and the water...then the cabbage.

I do not add anything else as far as starchy stuff...I add that when I serve so I can change it up...potatoes, rice, noodles...and then nothing gets soggy.

I used a huge napa cabbage, not a regular green cabbage. Easy to freeze portions for later.

    Today's Plan

    coffee with NP
oats, with HM almond milk, blueberries, flax meal and cinnamon
    taco salad
    last of the cabbage soup
    tea and muffin

    Make it deeeeeeeeelicious.

    Happy Friday!

Magic - That soup recipe looks delicious. Going to make it this weekend. I was kinda in a rut making minestrone soup recipe from Veganomicon. I was talking to my friend about her recovery....the other thing she did was get upright Scalp, shoulder neck massages. She said that sounds weird but it was something to relax her after painful PT focus on the knee. Plus it is relatively cheaper than a whole body massage.

NSV: Finally up to 30 min on Peloton bike. I divide the time up...15 minutes listening to lectures on You Tube (warming up and trying to wake up) then 15 min. class. The bike is in our upstairs sunroom off our bedroom...I don't go down stairs until I ride the bike.

Best smoothie this morning: Vega vanilla protein powder, 1/2 mango, lemon slice, ginger slice, 2 cups of organic baby lettuce, lots of ice cubes....sometimes I used toasted coconut milk with almond and other times Fairlife (not vegan). It was so good I am going to have it for lunch too.

    Ciao for now. Donna

p.s. That was Charlie Bear...my suppose to be white dog that is always grubby. I don't know why it came out so big. This is Cleo my oversize miniature schnauzer. q7e1pj1uzer4.jpeg

Thanks for sharing the cabbage soup, Nanc. I will give that a try.

Donna, I hope we never have to vote for cutest face on your dogs because they are both adorable!

I had fun tonight out with friends after work. I have 3 clients lined up to come in tomorrow. After this weekend tax time is DONE and I can get back to regularly scheduled chaos.

B - ezekiel english muffin with a smidge of kite hill
L - leafside thai veggie noodles (really like this one)
    S - banana
    D - big ol 'salad

Also had a martini when I was out.

UGH.....too much mature kale in smoothie today...note to self...buy baby kale. We both drank it and Brooks didn't complain but it was bitter instead of refreshing. Even with mango, pineapple, orange and banana, ginger and lemon slices plus vanilla Vega protein powder. I made the perfect one yesterday...oh well.

30 min. peloton done. Dogs walked. Off to a card making workshop with carrots & celery & dip as they have nothing healthy at these events. Then coming home...playing with aquariums and making Magic's cabbage soup.

Nice to see you back on the forum, Donna. You have been missed here! Nice workouts. I've made the bitter kale mistake in a smoothie more than once.

The loss of Kittens is hitting Joe and I really hard. Between the two of us setting each other off, we're pretty much crying day and night. Ruby gets upset and starts barking around me in circles trying to find the threat. And goofy Radar is somewhat oblivious to it all but getting extra snuggles.

The person that we thought might make a good pet sitter for our travels wasn't able to come to our house this weekend to meet Radar and Ruby. She has been undergoing chemotherapy which I think she is finished with now but she was feeling too low energy to make the trip here. I'm going to let her contact me if/when she feels up for it.

I'm going to plan and book a trip for 2 weeks somewhere in Europe for late summer/ early fall. That will give me a nice medium term goal of 5 months to improve my fitness and slim down. I'm still deciding where to go but I think it will be between Portugal and Spain. If we land in Paris, I think we might stay there a few days. A friend is in Paris right now and looks to be having a great time.

    Today:
    coffee
smoothie - frozen blueberries, baby kale, almond milk, 1/2 banana, pea protein powder, few walnut halves
    snack: mandarin oranges
dinner - mushroom red sauce over whole wheat penne with walnut parm

Donna, I'm not crazy about raw kale either. Good planning for munchies while at your workshop.

Carla, it's so difficult and I am so sorry! I still miss my boy every day and sometimes still expect to see him when I get home from work or when I wake up in the morning.

    Nanc, how's PT going?

I went way off plan last night. Spent all day in the office and decided on the way home to stop at a fairly new vegan joint near my house for carry-out. Got a BBQ jackfruit sandwich which came with fries, and sides of the soup of the day (it had a mushroom broth and veggies... they offered a sample and it was sooo good that I ordered some) and coleslaw.

Gotta say, I wasn't that thrilled with the sandwich. It was just okay. The fries were good but I didn't eat them all. The coleslaw and soup were delicious but I only ate a bite of each since the dinner filled me up. I'll have the coleslaw and soup for lunch at the office today.

But it reinforces my feeling that my tastes really have changed and I just don't enjoy big heavy meals like that anymore. For an "indulgent" meal I would have preferred my own homemade pita pizzas which are 100% compliant and yummy, and cost much less to boot.

Spent about 7 hours in the office yesterday and going back today. Probably only stay 5 hours or so because I need to get home to do laundry and prep salads for the week. I think I can finish getting all the tax returns together in 2 or 3 hours and then get to a few other things.

Walking program starts next Monday and goes for 10 weeks. My hope is that I can really focus on ME for that 10 weeks. If I could lose 10 to 15 pounds over that 10 weeks I'd be thrilled. I think ultimately I'd like to be around 130 and right now I'm at 151 so that would put me really close.

Afternoon, sweet peeps! I am getting close to going in the pool...I am 7 weeks Post Op tomorrow...I got the all-clear from the doctor's nurse or PA, but I am still worried about infection. Might wait til 4/25 when I see the doc again...see what HE says.

I am making some progress at PT...a bit better bend ... but still a ways off. I did get a great message from a pal from my 1st knee replacement. We met on Facebook and had our knees done on the same day 1/17/22. I will post it below.

Good luck with the last push before the 18th deadline, @Mihani . Being the daughter of a CPA who had his own Tax Practice...I know you are pushed to the limit at this time of year.

    today
    coffee
    oatmeal
lettuce tomato avocado sandwich of toasted rye bread
air-fried tofu, baked potato, green beans, cole slaw, apple sauce

    the end

    Make it delicious everyone!

@Mihani I am excited about your walking program...I should join you. What exactly is it? I mean I would do it on my own. My weight is EXACTLY like yours...151...and needs to be 130. How funny.

From my last year’s knee replacement buddy … totally appreciated it! <3

Wishing you all the luck ! But don’t be too afraid for the MUA - everyone I know has had it and it totally changed the game for them ! So don’t be upset - it’s nothing you have done it’s just the way knees go !

Thanks, Nanc! Got everything finished up and ready to go out tomorrow. I don't even prepare the taxes myself just coordinate getting the returns done on all our cases and act as kind of the go-between for our clients and the CPA who prepares them. It's a lot but I'm glad it's not my job to actually prepare the returns. I did a little better this year getting a head start and we got a bunch done before the end of March, but I had at least 30 that were signed in the past week.

I like what your friend said about your knee. That does sound encouraging!

The walking program is through my gym. We will meet up once a week. One of my favorite trainers is leading it so we'll be getting some coaching along with the walking. I can let you know what we do though, if you want to follow along at home. :) That is cool we have the same weight and goal!

I didn't take a break today so I'll eat the soup and coleslaw I got yesterday while I work on laundry. Had ezekiel toast with a smidge of PB and a banana for breakfast.

    Plan for today...easy easy easy!

    coffee with np
raw, organic rolled oats with frozen berries and homemade almond milk
baked potato and green beans and cole slaw
leftover pasta sauce from the freezer and noodles
    watermelon

I am 7 weeks post-op today...I can't believe it's so far in my rearview mirror. Yesterday, I did clean up the kitchen without taking a break. Today is laundry day as well as home PT on my own.

    Need some advice here...

Hi. I am sorry that I disappeared. I am horrible at checking in with the groups.

I've been doing ok. Over the past few months I have been experimenting in the kitchen with recipes from my new cookbooks. I also changed up my exercise routine. I was eating mostly plant-based but on occasion would flip back to vegetarian. I was vegetarian for about 30 years and struggling with giving up cheese. I've been vegan for about a month now and am loving it. I am finding that all the foods I used to eat are no longer appealing to me. One bonus is I am not tempted to eat any of my daughter's candy from Easter as it is not vegan friendly.

I love that spring is here. I enjoy gardening, especially vegetable gardening. A few weeks ago I started my seeds and have quite a few baby plants in my dining room and a few in greenhouse. I can't wait for this growing season. There is nothing like home grown vegetables!

I second the advice Carla gave to Marilyn. Though I have not tried Dr. Furman's program or read his literature. (I did see a webinar where he spoke though) I started my journey 2 years ago because of my T2 diagnosis. I found Mastering Diabetes and began reading it. I was already vegetarian and followed the plan loosely. Just by cutting out added oils it made a huge difference. Within the last month I stepped up my game and have become stricter with what I consume. My glucose has been even better than before. Right now I am reading How Not to Die by Greger. That is another good one. I have his other book How Not to Diet ready to read when I finish this one.

    @Carla_wfpb
Happy 50TH Birthday!!!! I turned 50 in February. I am sorry to hear you didn't do much due to your tooth pain and your celebration wasn't what you had wanted it to be. I can understand how that would be disappointing. You can always do a post birthday celebration trip.
Your dyed fabric is beautiful! What do you do with your fabric after you dye it? I would love to see more of your work! I draw, paint, craft and love all of that stuff. I minored in art in college. I love looking at other's work.
Feel free to add me on Fitbit. My name on there is JNettie73. I also am part of some of the private vegan/plant-based/ vegetarian groups on there. I often share pictures of my meals in those groups.
Ruby is beautiful! So sorry to hear of Kitten's passing. I understand how difficult it is. Sending you love.

    @magic71755
Thanks for sharing Lets Eat Plants. I will definitely check it out! I love being around and knowing I am with plant eaters. On another platform I was a part of a healthy eating group, which I thought would be great. Most of the dishes posted were not plant-based. It was very frustrating and disappointing for me and I ended up leaving the group.
I love cabbage. Thanks for sharing the cabbage soup recipe. It sounds delicious!
I find it is difficult being the only vegan in my family too. I am sorry you don't feel comfortable. My husband's family, mostly my MIL, makes a big deal about my eating habits whenever we go to restaurants together. It always feels like it is more of a problem for her than it is for me. That is fantastic that the restaurant will offer an option for you. You can always call the restaurant ahead of time too and discuss what the possibilities for those options may be. That is what I tend to do. I find doing that takes less attention off of me when it is time to order. The less attention means the less comments I have to listen to about my dietary choices which makes for a more peaceful time.

    @bisky
Sorry to hear of your struggles with iron, transfusions and other diseases. It is interesting, but not surprising based on my readings, that you went back to red meat and saw the opposite of what the naysayers were saying. I am glad you are starting to feel like you have more energy. I hope your preop appointment goes well. I am in love with your furbabies!
