Mihani, the walking group is a great idea! I love that they start with a mile. Lets everyone ramp up and get to know each other. I emailed you the dates I'm in town. I hope we can meet up!

Donna, your comment about CB's eyes being the only white bit about him that stays white made me LOL. Did you have fun at the silk painting workshop? Did they give you a template to work from? The silk flower thing isn't big enough to be a scarf (about 18"x 18"), i was thinking maybe collage with it or wrap a gift. I should probably learn how to hand sew a hem!

@Marilynsretired What a sweet post about pets just caring that you are there. I miss our sweet Kittens. She was so special.

ahh and now I'm getting weepy.

okay time to get out in the sunshine and get some fuzzy-o-therapy from the doggos!

(Ruby has not been limping I think there's a good chance she will have a good checkup.)

oh and Donna, I think fresh is more beneficial if it is local produce but frozen tends to be better for things that have to travel a long distance. They pick them unripe to keep them 'fresh' for the trip vs when freezing them they are picked at the perfect time and then flash frozen.

i watched a dr. Gregor video on this but can't find it. Partway through this video Dr. Gregor talks about it: https://youtu.be/43FoU_U5jhE

Donna, CB sounds like he has a whole lot of personality! Happy for you the surgery is at least in sight and you can start feeling better. Spring rolls sound so good. I've never tried making them myself.

Carla, I'll make something work! Can't wait.

Good ol' Dr. G. He has answers for everything! The increase in my beans consumption was from something of Dr. Greger's that I recently read. There was a study and I don't recall all the details but eating at least half cup of beans every day helps reduce belly fat even if you make no other changes in your diet. I thought what the heck I love beans so I'll give it a try and it helps me remember to get them in when I have a cup of bean soup in the morning, plus I'm getting other cooked veggies and greens with the soup. Win win.

My stomach bugs me because it's not shrinking much so I've been working harder on my core exercises but need to tweak the diet as well.

It's going to take a while before you get over Kittens. Most of us here have pets and know what you are going through. I still miss my boy every day and find myself looking at pet rescue websites sometimes, but I am determined to wait until I'm at least semi-retired before I adopt another pet.

Strength class tonight kicked my butt. I feel like I'm struggling sometimes with the heavier weights and have to cycle down. I only did 7 lb dumbbells tonight. I still can't do planks with my shoulder although it's so much better than it was.

    B - lentil veggie soup
L - leafside split pea soup, couple wasa crackers
D - big ol' salad, lentil veggie soup

I forgot to add beans to the salad so I had another very small serving of the lentil soup. I was too full for more. My grapes were past their prime so I chopped up an apple for the salad instead and it was super filling.

@bisky one week was my recovery time. It was easy...I don't think I even took pain pills. Maybe a extra strength Tylenol was all.

TY for the 411 on your walking program, @Mihani...I copied it saved it.

Keep up the good work (no limping) Ruby...you go girl!

Kittens is safe and playing with all our fur babies that have passed. If your heart was still no breaking, I would be surprised. Lulu was adopted very closely after I had lost Ernestine...who was adopted in 2003. I wish I could have had them both at the same time. Not sure how I would have made the last 20 years without them.

I had a very bad stretch in my life where I had lost everything...had to rebuild my life. Ernestine got me through the worst of it. (Her picture is in my profile). Lulu took over the job when I lost Ernestine the day after Thanksgiving 2017. She went peacefully in my arms, at home, with her very favorite vet there guiding us...Pets At Peace.

The worst time in my life actually turned into the best time in my life, finding Ernestine as a rescue with Cuddly Canines of Southern California. Life is funny, isn't it?

    Today's Menu:

    shredded wheat, banana, almond milk
    refried beans tacos
roasted veggies and rice with air-fried tofu
    banana muffin for dessert

Saw doc yesterday...no manipulation as I am improving. He was pleased with my progress...back to work 5/25

    make it delicious, everyone

Yay, Nanc! Congrats on the great progress report!!

Ruby also got an A+ report and is now off leash, free to run and play. We were all excited to let her off leash when we got to the field and were videorecording the moment to watch her react but unfortunately she was too doped up to much care. The vet had us give her 2 sedatives last night and 2 this morning so she would be calm for her appointment. Although disappointing, I suppose it is a better introduction to being off leash than running around full tilt.

Looking forward to it, Mihani. It is coming up fast too. Figures it is when I've gained a bunch of weight! We had breakfast out this morning speaking of weight gain and let's just say it is best left unmentioned.

There's been stress and grief and lots more going on than usual but I need to push through and stop with the excuses. Time to get back on that treadmill. It gets me off to a good start for the day and helps me control my food.

oh, pottery class was pretty good. We used wheels the first session and worked on clay prep, centering the clay on the wheel, and making simple bowl shapes, followed by touching on how to make cylinder shapes. There's open studio time during the week that we're going to take advantage of when we can.

Magic - good to hear about your recovery. I hope mine is the same. They were mentioning chest tubes and drains as the hernia and my stomach sit above the diaphragm against the lungs. I know some people have sliding hernias but mine seems to be stuck in my chest. I am so glad you have Lulu in your life. Our pets are gifts.

Mihani - your meal planning is wonderful. You inspired me with your weight lifting...yesterday after spinning I did an arm workout. Today I swam laps with Brooks...first time in a long time.

Carla - Yay for Ruby's recovery!!!!! I am glad she didn't go crazy off leash. Okay, I have to admit I am jealous of your pottery class. I love pottery. I am thinking of taking a water painting class this summer. You had a tough winter having to cancel the trip and then losing Kittens. Hugs.

The good news...because of the hernia I mentioned to my PCP, causes chest pain...she ordered a huge cardiac workup including the nuclear stress test and an echo...The stress test I passed with flying colors and can exercise as hard as I want. I hear about the results of the echo in 2 weeks. Once again I was also checked for T2DM...fasting blood sugar was 89 and A1c was 5.2.

NSV: Had a huge reason to celebrate with Brooks yesterday...my thoughts immediately went to Prosecco, chocolate covered strawberries, etc, etc.....Instead I went to the store and bought beautiful asparagus, made a big salad and salmon (I know most of you don't eat fish but it was a celebration)....and fancy sparkling water...bought flowers and set the table and lit candles. The asparagus was pricey from this store we call the Gucci grocery store (Central Market in San Antonio). Their produce is mostly organic and beautiful. But my thinking was off....I thought $7.00 for asparagus was pricey and felt guilty paying so much....but then realized I would have thought nothing about paying $10-20 for a cake that would have been unhealthy and not nourished our bodies.

Woohoo, Ruby! I'm so happy to hear this. Seems like it has been forever since she was first injured. Pottery sounds fun. I've always thought that looked like it would be pretty zen to do. I haven't touched my knitting project since class ended and hope to get back to that soon.

Woohoo, Nanc! Glad you are making progress and won't have to go through the manipulation.

Donna, that celebration dinner sounds beautiful! The hernia sounds awful and I bet you can't wait until the surgery. You just reminded me I need to look for some swim shorts so I can use the pool at my brother's condo this summer. I love to swim and it is such great exercise, but I haven't done it for years because I refuse to appear in public in a bathing suit! The swim shorts they have now are really cool and I think I'd be more comfortable in those.

I worked until 6:00 last night then came home and changed shoes and hit the sidewalk for my half hour walk. Ended up at almost 7000 steps. My goal is 5000 which is modest but given that I sit all day it's achievable and I don't feel like a failure every day. I thought about treadmill but it was so nice out, around 60 and sunny, that I got outside. Ordered some earbuds that should arrive today and I'm looking forward to having those so I can listen to books, podcasts or music while I walk.

Yesterday was lentil soup for breakfast, Dr. McD soup for lunch with an apple, big ol' salad for dinner. Got into the peanut butter pretzels at the office yesterday though. First time in a while I've given in to the snack monster.

Today's plan is oats with all the usual additions plus 1/4 cup of white beans, leafside for lunch, salad with garbanzo or black beans added for dinner.

Ruby and Radar this morning pre-walk. They were much muddier at the end!

Ruby was limping a bit yesterday so we are keeping an eye on her but the doc said she was fully healed. Perhaps just muscle soreness. She seems fine again this morning.

Today I am going to follow Donna's wonderful example and set our table with pretty plates and cut some fresh daffodils for the table.

    They are so sweet, Carla!

Got stuck at the office a bit late and just quick check-in. Gotta get ready and get to strength class. The white beans in the oats didn't work for me. Didn't like it. Figured white beans are so mild... I've used them in smoothies and that was fine, but wasn't crazy about the whole beans in the oats. I'll try it again tomorrow maybe just have to get used to it. Initially I didn't like chopped greens in my oats but now I love it.

Was just thinking I miss Spring and Austin! You gals out there?

Strength kicked my butt again but not as difficult as Tuesday. Got over 5000 steps today which is my goal. I'll get in long walks on Saturday and Sunday. I got some earbuds and going to check out audio books from the library. Hoping I can find things that will keep me so occupied I won't notice the miles. We'll see!

    Mornin' All,

Out with friends last night and a tad hungover this morning. Doesn't take much to give me a headache the next day. Yet another "benefit" of getting older.

Tons of work to do this weekend so not doing much else. Will get in big long walks today and tomorrow. Planning to go to the office for a while tomorrow. Also laundry, some housework, etc.

Glad I have the leafside meals to fall back on for now. Helps keep me on track when I have no time to cook. I mix it up with soups from the freezer, oats, salads.

Speaking of soups from the freezer, having some Eat Your Greens Soup now. Love this stuff and if you add some beans you've got most of the GBOMBS in one bowl.

    B - soup
    L - stir-fry veggies with rice
    D - big ol' salad

    Good Morning!

We are having a little heat wave going on right now. It was in the high 70s yesterday and will be again today. That is a heat wave for around here at this time of year LOL. I had windows open and a nice breeze flowing through the house.

I managed an okay food day yesterday so I am going to build on that today. I had my blueberry oatmeal last night for dessert! I need to avoid my grains early on in the day so I am going to have it as dessert. Or dinner for lunch and breakfast for dinner?

Here's my recently finished sample painted on silk. Now that I've finished 2 samples, I'm going to do a similar design to this one on an 8x72 silk scarf.

Hope everyone is out there enjoying their weekend!

Wow, that's beautiful, Carla! Your talents never cease to amaze. I tend to do better if I save the starches for later in the day too.

Nanc, yep I am finding anymore one is it. I had two on Friday and it upset my stomach and gave me a headache. Oh well, going out is cheaper that way. Your menu sounds excellent!

I didn't get out for a walk yesterday and it's still rainy and dreary so we'll see if it clears up later this afternoon. If not I'll hit the treadmill because I don't want to slack on my "homework" walks. Borrowed an audio book from the library and itching to try it out with the new earbuds. Tomorrow is supposed to be more rain and chilly so the group walk should be delightful. ha!

Getting ready to roast a bag of mini peppers for my salads but need to get to the grocery at some point. About out of my bag salads and need those. Each bag makes two big salads and I'm enjoying the mix of lettuces and other veggies. I was getting really tired of spring mix and like the crisper varieties in the bags. This week the additions will be campari tomatoes, grapes, roasted mini peppers. I've just been mixing a tablespoon of tahini with a tiny bit of water for dressing lately and sprinkling with a no salt blend. Was also getting tired of the acidic dressings and taking a break from vinegar.

Okay off to finish laundry, run to the grocery (or maybe just do a grocery order) and get on some work.
