Hey there everyone, been struggling the last few days. This Halloween candy is getting me. I find myself justifying eating several pieces because there fun size but they add up.
The family went to a Halloween party Saturday and lots of snacks and treats. Tried to not over do it and I did well at the party. I picked water instead of regular soda so proud of myself for that. I love fall and all the holidays but myself control is being tested by these treats, lol.
Overall still doing go with healthy food choices just occasionally over doing it with candy. I'm a work in progress. I tell myself I'm not looking to be perfect just continue making small improvements.4 -
Good Morning,
I did not buy candy. We live in a rural area, so no kids and no temptations. My husband did buy candy bars at the beginning of the month, but he already ate all of them. I kept putting them in his lunch to help get them out of the house. We have an understanding that if he wants junk food, that's something he will need to buy because I will no longer be picking out these items. I do allow myself an occasional treat that fits in my daily nutrition goals. I learned a new strategy. If I want a special treat, then I will do 25 squats and drink a glass of water first. I will reinforce a bad habit with a new good behavior.

I mentioned this in another group, and thought it might be helpful here as well..
For those of you who have leftover candy, and don't want leftover candy: a lot of local elementary schools back home would take any extras as long as they were individually sealed, and would organise to have it sent to troops overseas. It may be something worth checking into

@trooworld - I have a suggestion for next month's challenge
Practice mindful eating. Mindful eating is when you pay attention to everything about the food you are eating. Try eating just one meal mindfully. When you sit down at the table to eat, notice how you feel as you eat. How does it taste? What is the texture? What color is it? How does it smell? How does it makes you feel full? This can be a way to appreciate the foods you're eating.3 -

It must be the cooler weather; I'm craving cookies and potato chips. I have not had these cravings for a really long time. I'm eating a bit of extra fruit and popcorn, hopefully it will pass soon. I have low kidney function, and I'm seeing my doctor in the morning to discuss that, but I don't think she put in the paperwork for the blood tests because they only checked my cholesterol. I can always get the bloodwork done tomorrow. Maybe she can just update me by messages.
My car had a flat tire, backing up our driveway I ran over a box cutter razor blade, I had to spend 2 hours at the tire store but I came home with a new tire. They were just really busy.
Good luck everybody, save some wiggle room for Thanksgiving4 -
@trooworld- forgot to say that I love your Library DJ costume3
-
@trooworld I’m up for any challenge. Mindful eating, a 🥾 when I fall off the wagon, anything. 😊😩
Your costumes are great. I hope you had a lot of fun.

I don’t know how you all survive with all the candy around. Glad I don’t have to worry about it. My biggest issue these days is meal prep.
I managed 137 miles for October, now to do better in November.
Oh will need to get things in order for Turkey time. It’s my favorite meal. 😩2 -
@FushiaKat- Oh man that stinks about your tire. I hope you get some answers from your bloodwork.
@AmbersWay- 137 miles, Wow! Congrats that is great. I've been slowly building up stamina and been doing only 2 mile walks.
Halloween was fun last night with my boys. We walked all over the neighborhoods so they were super tired coming home. So happy November is here, I love fall weather and it definitely feels like fall now.4 -
@trooworld - I like your phrase for the year: "Every choice is another chance to change my health for the better."
I post a quote on my home page every morning as inspiration to start my day. My quote for today is "What you get by reaching your goals is not nearly as important as what you become by reaching them.” —Zig Ziglar.

@Veta2018 Welcome to Mission Slimpossibles! I'm one of those who hit my highest when I quit smoking too, I think you have a great plan to lose now. I hope you share some of those great recipes! Aw, your pup is so precious, what a beauty! I like your plan for special treats, wtg on not getting into the candy!
@troooworld Love your Tigger costume! I love the idea of another challenge but am not sure on suggestions. After reading through all the messages a couple people are doing no sugar so maybe a “nourish your body” type challenge to help cut out junk?
@askewcr @laurelfit57 @DebJB30 Great job leading the pack on losses for the last week!
@laurelfit57 @865jessica @megnolia82 Congratulations top losers for October!
@badnoodle Woohoo great job on being strong and starting with the Coke Zero!
@laurelfit57 You've done amazing helping as a motivator, thank you! Vannie sounds real incredible with her reaction time, do you think a lot of practice would help with your response? I don't respond that fast so I'm curious. Happy Halloween to you too!
@tammymccrady6278 Oh fingers crossed on the big 5-0 too, how exciting!
@AmbersWay Oh my gosh Helix is the cutest!
@micaroo4 Nice a four day weekend is a great plan! Are you planning anything for it?
@865jessica I've tried a bunch of different ways to handle social events and for the most part if you get back to it right away it's not a big deal to eat freely for a day or two though I think your choice to have water is perfect. By doing that you didn't go totally wild which helps a lot mentally plus extra water will help get all the extra food through your system. Congratulations on 30lbs down!
@megnolia82 Congratulations on 20lbs down!
@steffibabiie Sending candy to troops is a great idea! I know some dentists do that too. Our church collects leftover candy to use to decorate gingerbread houses next month too.
@FushiaKat Oh no it seems new tires never are a fast thing, that's about what it took me a few weeks ago too. Good luck with your doctor.

Hi everyone, happy November! I'm Kathy, Mission Slimpossibles team motivator under our awesome leaders @trooworld and @broncobuddee . I'm 52 and live in the Sacramento area in CA with my two cats. I've been part of the team for almost 5 years and love our group! I have ongoing health issues with pretty severe chronic pain. I had a fusion/discectomy/fusion revision last week and it's been tough going but I feel I'm on the track to recovering now. My double fusion 16 years ago I quit smoking for led to me hitting my highest weight (had hardware problems and stayed in bed for a year) so I'm very conscious of NOT doing that this time. I'm working part-time and volunteer with the food bank farm and am secretary for a local charity that helps low income elderly and disabled plus we have a few major events we do each year helping the community. I eat low-moderate carb to keep my diabetes in remission and usually do a PT routine of weights and stretching. One of my favorite seated cardio instructors just put out a new video I'm dying to do but not quite yet!
Let's have an amazing November!4 -
Another quick check in today. I thought I had everything all lined up as far as eating went yesterday to make sure I wasn’t going to be tempted by Halloween candy :-). I got it a good workout in at the gym, both weights and yoga. I didn’t get home until 12 o’clock, I immediately took Vannie out for a good walk and was going to have lunch right after. I got a phone call from my dentist office asking if I could come in early for my appointment. My appointment was supposed to be at 2:30 but they wanted me to come in at 1:15. I thought I could just run over there, I was getting Botox shots in my jaw for grinding and then I would come home and have lunch. I raced over there, they had an emergency appointment, and I had to wait an hour and a half to see the dentist! I didn’t get home to have lunch until 4 o’clock, I was starving!!! I hadn’t eaten since before I went to the gym in the morning. Luckily, I had my Greek/chicken/quinoa, salad all made up, I ate that, but that really didn’t do the trick. Then I had to race over to my daughters place to hand out candy while they took the kids trick-or-treating. I ate a fruit salad and drink lots of water while I was handing out candy, I cannot even begin to tell you how loudly that candy was screaming at me to eat it, especially those mini O’Henry bars🤣. . When I got home, I really really really really wanted some sweets, I have some Fudgsicle‘s in the freezer that are really good, I had one of those and a small bag of Sun chips. I was able to stay in my range yesterday, it was a really tough day though. Another super busy day today, tomorrow I will be back on track and catching up on here. I did see that @Katmary71 🎉 is back, so glad, hope your surgery went well. I will read about it tomorrow when I have time to catch up.5
-
@laurelfit57 you did amazing at keeping in range! You really made me think about how pff track I have been about eating at certain times, to keep from getting hungry. I haven’t been paying attention to that much.
@trooworld thanks so much for the new challenge and all the resources. I will go through them today and post my goals.
@865jessica that’s exactly how I did my plan. I built up to things. Walking is a range from 9-11k daily (unless life slows me down 🤪) indoor cycling started at 5 min to 1 hour and settled at 30 min. Weights started at 1kg, which for some exercises was hard and now I am up to 4kg. So keep at it and I’ll cheer you on.
@Katmary71 welcome back!! I am praying that you are feeling much better. We missed you here.
@Cornanda how are you these days? I think we were on the same struggle bus for a bit last week.
@19shmoo69 the candy is evil! I am hiding from the treats in my house. Thankfully not candy but we have croissants 😩
@vegan4lyfe2012 how are you?
—-
Nothing new here. I’m constantly hungry (since I’m not nauseated from the meds anymore) and I am trying to keep cucumber cut up for snacks. I’ve been super busy with my youngest.
Hoping to do some prep today.
Have a lovely day!

Yesterday was inventory day at work, so I worked from 4:00am to 4:00pm. Didn't get online to post at all. Mindful Eating Challenge is a real challenge for me. I am NOT good about mindful eating; I tend to gobble my food if it's a meal, or a nibble mindlessly on my measured snacks while doing something else.
Today begins my 4-day weekend. Rich has the day off, so we are spending it together. He has errands to run, so basically I'm accompanying him on his agenda. Except for the haircut; he can do that by himself! I'll probably run back to the office while he's getting his haircut - I left work yesterday and forgot to take my paycheck!
-Mica5 -
Hi all-
I'm in for the mindful eating challenge. Will take a look at the awesome resources @trooworld posted later on.
Spooky challenge- my goal was 45 min of exercise a day. I added up my min and my grade was 97% and I'm satisfied with that.
@AmbersWay - thank you for asking, I am in the pattern where I plan to "start over" on Monday and by Tuesday I'm disgusted with myself. My pants are all too tight. I might actually hit a new decade up for weigh in tomorrow. I really need to take care of my future self by exiting the struggle bus NOW!
Lisa3 -
Hey everyone!
Just a drive by. I’m having a challenging week just staying on top of things. Hopefully I can do some catching up today.
I’m slowly undoing the damage of the last week, hopefully this upcoming weigh in erases the gain I had last week.
Have a good one!4 -
@laurelfit57-Wow congrats on staying sticking to your plan even though a lot of obstacles came your way. It's a great you had your lunch ready in the fridge so it helped you stay on track.
@AmbersWay- Yes I'm working on building up my stamina and strength. I'm doing better then I was four months ago when it was a struggle to do just one mile. It's great your not nausea anymore but sorry your constantly hungry I know that is hard.
@Cornanda- Congratulations on your Spooky challenge, 97% is awesome.
Nothing new today. Going get back into my groove of eating my planned breakfast and lunch with different dinner every night. My breakfast and lunches are almost always the same things and it helps me stay on track because I don't have to think about what to eat.
Have a great day everybody.

Mindful Eating Goals
- Eat without Distractions -
When my son's were younger and still lived at home, the whole family sat together and ate meals at the kitchen table. Now, my husband and I sit in front of the tv and eat. I want to start eating at the kitchen table again without distractions. - Eat Slower -
I usually have my plate empty within 5 minutes. I notice that I'm done eating before my husband too. I want to learn to eat slower and actually taste and smell what I'm eating. I'm going to try chewing each bite 20 times, and set my utensil down between bites. While eating I'm going to think about the color, texture, flavor, smell and how my food makes me feel. - Control Portion Size -
I know the importance of watching my portion size to prevent overeating. I measure most the foods I eat and use a smaller plate. - Don't Skip Meals -
I used to not eat all day. Then eat a large dinner with my husband and lounge on the couch all night snacking. I currently have my phone alarm go off every 3 hours to eat something. For me skipping meals occurs when I can't decide what to eat. I will continue to plan ahead and have measured goto snacks on hand.

@laurelfit57 – Would you please share your marinara recipe? And do you can it? If so, how? I’d love to do some canning, but have no idea where to start.
@Veta2018 – Welcome! I’m in SW Michigan, right above you! I-94 to exit 16. And we’re the same age, too! Benny is fluffin’ adorable!
@badnoodle – That is AWESOME! Fantastic job bargaining with yourself!
@steffibabiie – Nice loss you’ve had since August!
@AmbersWay – Thank you for thinking of me
I feel your candy pain. We have trick-r-treating at my job for the last hour of the day for all the employees’ kids and grands. I thought I’d be slick and bought an assortment that only had 1 candy I’d eat in it. The kids picked all the chocolate stuff and left all the Twizzlers! I don’t even know how many I ate. Probably had half gone just during my 30 minute commute. Ugh.
@trooworld – I’m definitely joining in on the mindful eating this month…thanks for all the links for articles and videos.
@Katmary71 – Hugs and prayers that you heal quickly!

My intro: I have 3 children in their 20s – oldest is my son, Marcus (granddaughter Sophie is 6 months), then my daughter Sydney (due 2/8/24 with baby Oliver), and my youngest daughter Hunter (grandson Byron is 4 months & due with #2 on 6/15/24).

I should be a single empty nester, but my middle daughter just got out of an abusive relationship, so she is staying with me until she gets back on her feet. I have an American Blue rabbit (her name is Kismet). I love to rubber stamp (I’m a Stampin’ Up demo) and make cards. I'm an active member of my church (Board member), and also love horror movies. I have worked in Community Development at my County for over 18 years. I have 60 pounds I’d like to lose. I’ve been in this group for quite a while now (around 2 years) and I appreciate all the friendships I’ve developed. I know I’ve been radio silent for the past month, but life has been so hard. I was recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD and to be honest, it’s kinda got me feeling like I’ll never be able to get a handle on my weight. Dealing with my youngest is horrendous – her son is 4 months old and she’s almost 2 month pregnant again and is bipolar so she can’t take her mood stabilizer. I can’t even talk about it all. My therapist tells me the things I go through during her episodes are akin to trauma and he sees some PTSD symptoms in my reactions. I just know with everything going on, all I want to do is sleep. Just shut my brain off and escape. Also dealing with middle daughter that basically doesn’t want to be pregnant, so it’s nothing but complaints from her and my son getting medically separated from the Navy after more than 7 years. Whew. At least I’ll have a little bit of a break from some of the chaos in a couple weeks when I fly with my middle daughter to Texas to get a U-haul to drive all her stuff back to Michigan. I’m hanging on by a shredded thread.

-
@19shmoo69 oh no! Hope everything's okay!
@vegan4lyfe2012 thank you! Glad to see you, you've been quiet lately. It makes sense with everything going on though, I hope the break when you go to Texas is exactly what you need x
@Katmary71 welcome back! Hope the recovery is going well 🧡
@trooworld mindful eating is a good one. Not sure what measurable goals I could set though, I'll have to think about that. Way to go smashing your step goal last month!

@laurelfit57 You absolutely rocked Halloween, way to go on having treats ready after and staying strong even with tasty goodness in your hands! Thank you!
@AmbersWay Thank you! Hope you get that prep done!
@micaroo4 I'm not good at mindful eating either, I tend to watch or listen to things the whole time I eat which is bad! Let's try this together ok? Hope you and Rich have a great weekend together.
@Cornanda Awesome score on the Spooky challenge!
@trooworld I did see the challenge, thanks! I think it's a great idea and definitely not my strong area. Great job surpassing your goal, that's awesome!
@865jessica I was able to eat the same or similar things for a while too, it does help to have that routine going and I'll do that if I need to get back on track for a bit. You got this!
@Veta2018 I like how you organized your goals, I may copy you there!
@vegan4lyfe2012 Thank you! I think that Texas trip may be good for you, things sound so hard in your world right now. Always sending prayers and love your way my friend.
@19shmoo69 Yikes that's scary, hope they get to the bottom of it!
Hi friends! I took an Uber to get x-rays this morning then back home. I'm not going to last much longer not being able to drive, I'm expecting my family and neighbors to stop answering the phone when I call! I start my post op pain med tomorrow which isn't when I really needed it but a little relief will be nice. My bowel doesn't want to wake up and my incision isn't healing right so I'm a little frustrated, I've never had either problem before. My legs have been worse, I'm hopeful they'll still heal a little at least which is the main reason I had surgery. On a bright note the upper back and neck is great! I have a few light therapy stretches but still taking things slow. It's my first time ever having at-home care and the nurse and PT/OTs are real nice. Not much else going on, I need to think of my Mindful goals still. Have a great Friday!0 -
@trooworld - thanks for choosing the Mindful Eating Challenge. I've learned a lot from reading through all the resources you shared.
@vegan4lyfe2012 - Its nice to meet you, neighbor!👋 Your grandbabies are adorable. My 23 year old step-son has a baby arriving around May 16, 2024. You do have a lot going on. I know to well about going to sleep to avoid thinking about certain issues. Now I've started listen to music and exercise to get my mind off my stressful situations. Stay strong, you'll get though it. 💪
@AmbersWay - I eat a lot of carrots, celery, and nuts for my snacks. Cucumbers sounds like a good way to change it up a little.
@megnolia82, @Cornanda, @Katmary71, @865jessica, @laurelfit57 - Stay strong, you got this! 💪
Mindful Eating - day 1
Out of habit, I ate breakfast sitting on the couch in front of the tv. 😕
I ate oatmeal with fruit and crushed almonds. The color was a creamy white til I added the blueberries which dyed the oatmeal a purple color. The oatmeal by itself tastes kind of plain, but the fruit adds a little natural sweetness. Then, the almonds gave the meal a little crunchy texture. When I was done eating I felt a comfortable fullness.
I almost ate sitting on the couch again, but stopped myself and sat at the kitchen table instead.
I decided to eat the last piece of the leftover spinach, mushroom, sausage calzone. I ended up picking at it. Throwing out the top 1/2 of the crust. It had a variety of colors, flavors and textures. I took my time eating, setting my fork down occasionally and stopping to take a drink of water. I felt a satisfying fullness, when I was done. *It's not my typical choice of food, but I don't like to waste food and already put some in my husband's lunch.
When my alarm went off for my afternoon snack, I was in the middle of doing laundry and preparing my grocery list. I wasn't really hungry but I want to stay on my every 3 hours schedule and keep my metabolism active. So, I sat at the table (with less enthusiasm) and ate a few crisp green celery topped with a creamy red pepper hummus. I had a hard time sitting at the table. I kept wanting to get up and grab my tablet, phone, or something. Snack just does not feel like a meal to be ate at the table.
My husband said "Are you serious?" when I told him we were eating at the kitchen table...hehehe. I even took my time eating and let him finish eating before me. Dinner went well.💪Mission Slimpossible Strong 💪3 -
@katmary71 yay yay yay we are so glad to have you back! I imagine you are still in quite a bit of pain, good for you for recognizing mistakes of the past and not going there. I’m sure your friends and neighbour’s don’t mind your calling and are just ever so grateful that you are back home and safe. That has to be really frustrating with the incision and slow to wake up bowel. In my province, (I’m not sure if it is all over the country), until all of that is working we are not discharged. I am so glad that you have got home care with PT’s and OT’s as well! It is lovely to see you on this board again♥️.
@AmbersWay it is such a challenge for me if I am not eating every 3 hours or so. It seems if I am way behind my food in the day I have such difficulty controlling myself at night.
@trooworld congratulations on surpassing your challenge!!
@865jessica I always have the same thing every morning for breakfast, I don’t mind it at all :-). It sure helps me to stay on track!
@vegan4lyfe2012 here is the link for the marinara sauce. I didn’t actually can mine, I froze it. The only difference is the number of servings, I got 16 servings rather than eight. https://thecarefreekitchen.com/marinara-sauce/
You can use the crushed tomatoes in and diced tomatoes in a can, I bought a whole bunch of tomatoes, cooked them down in my slow cooker and just used my immersion blender to make my own crushed tomatoes. I just cut up some whole tomatoes for the diced tomatoes:). Your grandbabies are so seriously cute! I am so sorry that you are having a really tough mental health struggles right now. Hard enough when you get a new diagnosis of ADHD and having to deal with your kids mental health as well. Much love is being sent your way.
@19shmoo69 I hope you get some results quickly!
@Veta2018 you made me laugh, talking about your husband’s reaction to sitting at the kitchen table to eat lol! Good for you for following through on all of that, those new habits are very hard to start sometimes.
I thought I was going to have a relatively quiet day, and it did not work out that way. Main points were, I got to the gym and I stayed on track with my food.
Unexpectedly, I am going to have about 20 people over here on Saturday after we go to a restaurant to celebrate my brother and sister-in-law‘s 40th wedding anniversary. And I have got company coming from out of town arriving tomorrow for the celebration, so I had today and tomorrow morning to get my house ready. I am really hoping next week is a little slower. Life is never dull🤣
I really want to skip the gym tomorrow so I can get ready, but I really need to go to the gym tomorrow.2 -

Yesterday I left work early and headed to the clinic. The left side of my body was tingling like it had fallen asleep. Long story short they drew blood to run a bunch of tests. Doc wanted to schedule a MRI but was unsure if insurance would cover it. From now on I need to monitor my blood pressure and take a baby aspirin until the test results come in.
On a side note Doc told me to lose weight. Lol. I've been trying to do that most of my life. Doc also said Keto is terrible, fasting is bad, Paleo might be ok but Mediterranean is the preferred. Looks like I'll be doing research again and firmly sticking to whatever food life style I choose. Chances are it won't be the Mediterranean diet.4
