Sunday steps 2954.
Hey yall. Rebecca here from Missouri. I am a. 54 yo momma to 3 adult children, 2 boys, 1 girl and now 6 grandchildren plus nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
I am An Army veteran with 2 deployments in the Middle East. I live on my own with my dog and 2 cats. I'm visually impaired with a hyperparathyroid disease. Along with that severe hbp and a history of chf. I also have severe degerative osteoarthritis and a left knee replacement scheduled in January 2024. I've had the right knee done already. I suffer from PTSD, MST, depression and severe anxiety related to military experiences.
I do a heart healthy diet. 1800 MG low sodium. I promise you that minimizing sodium isn't easy. Eating poultry and fish mostly is the easy part. I do have some pork or beef but much less than what I've done in the past. I still have aways to go to get to my ideal to me weight but I'm much better than what it had been. Remember that if you're here, you are no longer who you used to be. You're creating a new you every day.6 -

Okay, I'm generally not technology-challenged, but can someone tell me the most direct way to find these threads? I rarely spend a lot of time on this app, but I find it time consuming and kind of stressful even with the thread bookmarked. I have to click so many places just to get to my bookmarks! I'd be more reliable about posting if it weren't for that! I'm still aiming for 10k steps a day.4 -

@lianatherunner
There are several ways to solve that problem. Here's one:
On any community page, there will be a top banner with links to Categories, Discussions, Groups, etc... and to the far right, some icons like 🔍🔔✉️. Clicking the bell will give you a dropdown that lists your Notifications. At the bottom of that dropdown, there's a link All Notifications. Clicking on that link will bring you to this page:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/profile/notifications <-- bookmark this link
(if you aren't seeing many notifications, then you probably don't have the thread bookmarked)
The next step requires that I make a distinction between MFP bookmarks and your browser's bookmarks.
You can save yourself a lot of clicking if you bookmark (in your browser) the pages you want to frequently view (like the one above). If this isn't clear, let me know and I'll elaborate.
P.S. you can also create a folder on your browser's bookmark bar in which you can save links to numerous threads. Tacking on #latest to a thread's URL is helpful. For example:
With the following URL, replace the "/p2" at the end with "#latest" and you'll always come back to where you left off:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10904435/shape-shifters-team-chat-december-2023/p2 <-- this always takes you to the top of page 2
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10904435/shape-shifters-team-chat-december-2023#latest <-- this takes you to a point on the page you last viewed

Please sign me up for December step challenge... staying at 10,000 steps/day.
My truly favorite places are too far away, so I choose between 2 parks, 2 trails, 1 track and 1 indoor mall (for inclement weather). I might just try donning a parka though now and then and walk in the rain. 🙂

@Pupowl
Coincidentally, I had a pancake for breakfast this morning. I used ⅓ cup of Buttermilk Pancake Mix to make one good size pancake. Today I added blueberries, but I just bought some bacon so in a few days I might have another with bacon. I also like them with bananas or pecans.
I recently learned of the Dutch Baby pancake. I've made one quite a few times now. I thought it was a strange name, then I learned that the name came about because an American restaurant owner added a baby version of a German (Deutsch) pancake to his menu, but due to a typo or misunderstanding, the Deutsch baby-pancake became known as the Dutch Baby Pancake. 😄
P.S. I am envious of your easy access to a National Park!3 -
Hello Shape Shifters!
I'm Frank, 74 years old, retired, and a bachelor. For the first 35 years of my life, I stayed relatively fit. Then I met someone which lead to a ten year relationship. We had some good times, but unfortunately that often involved dessert of one form or another. We both gained weight. After that relationship ended, depression set in and I became a workaholic couch potato and continued to gain weight.
I'm currently into the fourth year of trying to get back into shape, and it's gone pretty well, apart from the difficulty I'm having with the final leg of the journey. I lost over one hundred pounds the first two years but gained back 16 pounds in year three. My goal is to get below 220 and stay there.
yearly gain/loss:
highest weight (7/10/2020): 330
year 1: ↓87 lbs;
year 2: ↓18 lbs;
year 3: ↑16 lbs;
year 4: ↓↑??? (half way through already)
Although I'm still overweight, my health is much improved, as evidenced by how much I'm able to exercise these days. In some ways, this makes it harder to have the discipline to continue to lose weight. The devil on my shoulder says things like
"Come on, you've run a 10k... you're healthy enough. Don't deny yourself just to lose a few more pounds." 😈
I'm trying to ignore those thoughts.8 -
I use the app and it's somewhere between 5 and 2 million clicks, and by the time the various pages load, I'm bored and onto something else. I'll figure it out. I actually forgot my password and have trouble logging in on my laptop, and also, my laptop is extremely slow and sometimes takes half an hour to wake up (that is absolutely not an exaggeration) so I can't imagine using MFP on there. Sigh. Thanks, though.4

@frankwbrown That sounds delishes! Can't go wrong with bacon (though I don't eat meat anymore myself). The annoying thing is that the pancake mix just lists the calories for a prepared pancake, as if they know how much someone pours in the pan, what milk they use, how much butter etc. I just want to know the calories for the flour mix. I will figure it out though. It says the whole box is enough for 12 pancakes so I can at least work out how much mix I need. That's funny about the Dutch pancake. I think a lot of those translation mishaps happen with Dutch/Deutch. People compare German to Dutch a lot as well, though to me it doesn't sound that similar.
I feel you on the devil on your shoulder. The brain is crazy good at justifying things that you know are not healthy for you. It really is a pain in the behind sometimes. I try to argue back with something positive, but it is not that surprising that we sometimes give in. I am sure you will make it to your goal!3 -

Hello Shape Shifters. I had some trouble falling asleep, so I didn't make my sleepgoal this time. When I woke up, I was really happy to see new snow outside. I was so exited to go for my walk! I wish I could have walked in the forest more, but I had to start from home. I am not really comfortable biking in snow. If it is fresh, that is usually fine, but when cars have been on the road, it just turns into a slippery mess. I still had a really good time and I did a little shortcut twice because it was such a nice bit of forest.
I also finally finished the puzzle. It wasn't fun anymore at the end, the yellow was such a mess. So this one is going to get a new home because I never want to do it again! I made a pancake attempt and learned some things. Not having any utensils to flip it is not very handy. Next time I will mash the banana and mix it in the batter. This time I just cut one up and put the pieces after pouring the batter, but that made it cook a bit uneven and also made it harder to flip. The end result wasn't pretty, but it was tasty so who cares. Happy Monday everyone6 -
Happy Monday All!
@pupowl Love the snow photos! Beautiful! And no wonder the butterfly puzzle was challenging- looks like a doozy.
@lianatherunner I use the app too. Probably why I have so many typos in my post. Once you figure out the path, it’s not as hard, but I totally was overwhelmed at the beginning. I still never could find the step chart so I post here. I always bookmark it.
I have 4 or 5 groups book marked. I go to community, then my bookmarks (scroll down to the bottom to find them) and then it shows up.
Steps: 12/3 14,208.
Took an actual rest day yesterday after my long run Saturday but ran a million errands. They delivered the tree Saturday. I’d asked for a smaller one this year because of my hurt shoulder- it’s hard to reach the top- and the one they brought is easily 14 feet!!! I’ll post photos when it’s decorated. The guy who delivered it was supposed to let us borrow a tall ladder, but he never came yesterday. It is a beautiful tree, but right now my living room is a is a disaster area with ornaments, boxes, etc everywhere and lights 2/3 the way up a tree…

I ate horribly this past weekend. Lots of ice cream and ordering food. My husband was in an eating mood and I just followed him. I feel a bit guilty about it now. I did go for a 6 mile run yesterday, which felt good, but doesn't make up for the amount that I ate. I know it happens and it's a part of the journey, but I don't feel good about it.4

Had a great morning skiing with my husband yesterday. Beautiful skies, not crowded, nice snow. Came home and was doing my warm up before my run and low and behold- I spotted a ladder on our porch! Got the lights on the top of the tree- kind of- and used a ski pole to place a plaid bow as a topper. Spent a couple hours decorating, but still not done. Honestly, it’s the most beautiful, fragrant tree I’ve ever had. No one will care that it’s not exactly decorated the top few feet.
I am so proud of myself for stopping the decorating and getting on the treadmill to do my planned run. Inspired by my daughter, who I was chatting with on the phone while decorating and she said- mom - I’ve got to go do my run… She’s running the half in Houston while I run the full. The courses are together for the first 7 miles so we will run together part way.
Have a great day everyone!6 -

Hello Shape Shifters. I planned to have a slow and quiet day today, but when I woke up, there was even more new snow! It was absolutely amazing and it would have been a crime to stay inside. So off I went again for a long walk. I was the first one in the forest and the only tracks around were from animals. It was so quiet and so pretty and my heart was very happy. At one point I thought I found a treasure chest under a tree, lol! It looked so cool. The tree log even had moss on it in the shape of a heart; look!Tinus was not as amused by the snow. He tried to find a way around it in the garden. Spoiler: there wasn't one. So he bunny hopped to the back of the garden, looked around in horror for about 10 seconds and then ran back to the house. He was covered in little snow clumps and he refused to go outside again until later in the day when the snow melted a bit and a little path showed up.
I did some laundry and changed the sheets for the guest bed which was another workout on its own. Winter duvets are such a pain to get in the cover! I also did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen a bit. My second pancake attempt was even worse than the first (trust me, that's impressive), but it tasted better. The banana mashing is good, now I just need to figure out how to not get the pancake stuck to the pan. Tomorrows quest will be hunting for a big spatula to flip my pancake which should help.
I just finished writing 5 postcards for postcrossing. I normally don't do that in the evening, but it is actually way better since evenings in the winter are so boring to me. I just get tired of the dark and end up wanting to go to bed at like 18:00 so the postcards were a nice little distraction. They are going to Germany, China, Italy and the UK. More pictures under the spoiler. Happy Tuesday everyone3
