@jugar and @EvMakesChanges - Can only imagine all the lovely memories with him. Love that he called himself the oldest teenager, must have been alot of fun.
I'm Joann I work fulltime as a Public Health Nurse married with a 9 year old daughter and 1.5 year old German Shephard dog. I'm also slowly making my way through school hoping to accomplish my MPA in the next few years. My weight and eating in particular has always been a battle and something I want to get a better relationship with. My consistency has been off the last 2 month and that again is my focus this month.
I love to walk to dog, workout, bake and spend time with family.

@jugar & @EvMakesChanges - my condolences are with both of you and your family. I know your dad must have loved having you by his side during his last day. It's so great that you got to spend that time with him.
My name is Jolene. I live in SW Colorado with my husband and two rambunctious dogs. I currently work an office job and have for years. It is part of the weight gain I saw over the last decade. The other part was due to an injury. I used to exercise a lot and eat okay. Then, with the injury I stopped exercising which meant that I needed to eat well to not gain weight. I didn't do that. My all-time high was last year just before I joined this group. I am happily down 20-25 lbs ... depending on the day . My goal weight will be reached in another 30ish pounds.
Last night, I watched a documentary on Netflix called, "Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut". It discussed how our guts are like our second brain and how many issues that people end up developing can often be traced back to the gut. Issues as small as allergies and as big as Parkinson's. Without going into too much detail of the program, here are two things I took away from it:
1. Fiber is important. I know this, and I think most people (especially in this group) know this. But, the extent of how important it is and how little we actually get is what hit home to me.
2. ABC - Always Be Counting (not calories). Always be counting your fruit and veggies. One of the experts on the documentary kept stressing the ABC for fruits and veggies saying that we should be having at least 20-30 servings/week. That's three to four servings of fruits and veggies every day.
After watching this, I want my goals this month to be counting my servings of fruits and veggies and tracking my fiber intake.
Has anyone else watched or read something recently with good info to share with everyone? I know @micki48 was asking for suggestions and ideas that could help her with her weight loss and I bet she's not the only one who would like tips.2 -

I had a great day today. Work was actually decent and I was able to catch up on a lot. I was really surprised as it could have been a terrible day with the amount of stuff in my inbasket. I ate well and got to my body pump class tonight. I was slightly disappointed that it was virtual, but oh well. I ate some dessert afterwards that I wasn't planning on from a friend at bodypump. It was left over from the international food festival and she had made some Indian Gulab Jamun (Indian Syrup Soaked Donuts) and Rava Ladoo with raisins and nuts which were pretty good. I am definitely not a brave person to try new foods so I was proud of myself lol.
@Gidgitgoescrzy I can't wait to see pictures of your gardens! And pictures from your trip! You are going to have an amazing time! And I think that is smart to do the biking on the last day lol.
@MaddawgMadsen I always take those documentaries with a grain of salt. But I agree, increasing fruits and veggies is always a good idea!1 -

Today was pretty good. Logged all my food. Under calories. Not too hungry. Had a nice Mediterranean food kind of day. Walked with hubby at a sculpture garden. Took the day off from work and it was great!
I plan on growing flowers in a raised bed and veggies-too @Gidgitgoescrzy. Your trip is so close. How exciting!
Back to work tomorrow.3 -

@jugar and @EvMakesChanges - Thinking of you and your family during this time and your father’s passing.
Hi everyone, I am Chelsey and I live in Rhode Island. My husband and I have a dog who we spoil every chance we can. I’ve been successful with weight loss in the past, going from my highest of over 220lbs to my lowest of 163lbs and I remind myself it’s about consistency.
In April, I stayed roughly the same weight, which was decent because I had to travel for work to Texas, and then my husband and I went on vacation to Arizona. I got to see the Grand Canyon for the first time, and it was so beautiful. We also went hiking in Sedona, and the red rock formations are truly stunning. I’ve added a few pictures under the spoiler.
My goals for the month of May are:
1. Average 8,000 steps daily (weather permitting) in order to increase my NEAT.
2. Average 11,900 calories weekly (this allows more flexibility)
3. 150 minutes of intentional moderate exercise4 -
Good day everyone! Weigh in day:

I found a better location for my scales since moving them seems to give me different numbers.. not sure which ones were right but this will be my consistent starting point moving forward.

Frustrated with the scale as I've had 3 good weeks and have basically maintained.
@wishfuljune I don't think I knew you were from Rhode Island! What part? That is where I grew up! My parents and sister still there there in the small town of Richmond. I go and visit at least once a year and will be going up the end of July to the beginning of August.

Hello Waistaways,!
I'm Yinka. 60 years old and married with a grown up son. I live in Worcestershire, UK and I work from home as an Artificial Intelligence and Land Referencing educator.
I have been carrying a surplus weight of about 40lb for an embarrassing amount of time and I recognise that I am going to have to make some proper grown up food choices to make any real in-roads. I just need to tell my stomach and mind to be more co-operative! Maybe May will be the start! Especially as I have arranged a trip to Virginia, US to stay with our son in the autumn.
Welcome to all our new members and returners.
And ... I shall miss you terribly, Liselyn @jugar.4 -
Well here comes Wednesday! I'll be heading home tomorrow. We will be having a memorial service for dad on the 18th of May, and it is going to be quite a crowd, I'm sure. Lots of music, lots of memories - I think it will be a special time.
For now, it will be good to get back home and my usual routines (exercise!!!). My horse is surely awfully scruffy, and will need to get back to exercise too.
Tonight's reminder - due through Wednesday:
@strong_fit_ells
@adrimango
@MaddawgMadsen
@Gidgitgoescrzy
Thanks!4 -

Wooohooo I did it, I hit my goal of 145 before my vaca, with 2 weeks to spare... I am over here dancing I am so happy. But not to much I have a terrible headache and my jaw pain is back again...
Have a great day !8 -
@Gidgitgoescrzy - I am so excited for you! Congrats to hitting your goal before your trip with time to spare! Also, I am sad that you have a headache and that your jaw pain is back! Do you grind your teeth?
@jugar or @lauren_989 - can I move my weigh-in day to Thursday? I hate to leave @Gidgitgoescrzy as the only Wednesday weigh-in, but it makes her special. Not alone.2 -

I don't think I grind my teeth, dentist said he did not think it was TMJ, but this happens like every other month for a couple of weeks, then goes away. It's so weird.

@jugar I'm sure you will have a busy few weeks ahead getting ready for the memorial. Hugs again to you and your family!
@Gidgitgoescrzy congrats on hitting your goal early!! That is awesome!!
I am glad this week is almost over. I look forward to just about every weekend haha. I have my 5k on Saturday, and cross my fingers it looks like I will at least be healthy for this one! Although the weather does look iffy with rain, but it should be warm.
Does any else have fun or exciting plans for this coming weekend?2 -

WAHOO! Congratulations @Gidgitgoescrzy I’m so happy for you. You’ve worked so hard and you did it!! You hit your goal!! 🎉👏🏼👏🏼
This week is beating me down. I’m tired. I’m cover for the lead teacher whose husband is in the hospital. Normally, I could do it but Friday I got the news that I did not get the lead first grade position for next year. (A position I held in the same school for 5 years before I moved away then came back) I find it hard mentally to do a job all week following being told I was not their choice. I think there’s some ageism going on here. Anyway, wew! I’m spent.
I’ve done ok with food and logging but still room to improve.
Ashley I will be on the step challenge. Forgot to mention that before. 7k goal still. 🙂
The photos of Arizona were beautiful!!3 -

I don't have any exciting plans, we were supposed to do the dirt for the garden, but it's supposed to rain saturday and sunday, so we currently have enough dirt to maybe fill one, so hopefully we can atleast get that one started.
OMG I just remembered I forgot to put the bags for purple heart bags on the porch, I cleaned out my closet and attic and got rid of 4 bags of clothes, and a huge bin of ones I want to try to sell. So maybe a trip to the goodwill.
I want to spring clean the drawers in my house, seems like every piece of furniture has drawers, and those drawers get filled with junk, so I need to clean those out and maybe attempt to organize. I have a file cabinet, might be time to use it. My biggest problem is, I get one drawer done, and then I'm like yeah this sucks... and I shove the stuff I'm keeping back in there, and tell myself I will do it another day. So maybe I will gather everything, put it all on the table, or floor and sort it... Cause I won't leave it out, but apparently trying to do one drawer at a time, doesn't work for me. Thats what I had to do with my clothes, they sat in bins in my bedroom for a month, till I dumped everything on the bed, and had no choice but to complete it.
Ugh, I am dreading this already.
Have a great day !

@micki48 So sorry you didn't get the job... and to feel like ageism is at play.. that's even worse. Got you down for 7k!

Anything fun this weekend? The husband and I are taking our dogs for a short hike (short because I'm donating blood tonight and don't want to overdo it) on Saturday near one of the rivers by us to look for morel mushrooms. Then, on Sunday, I am joining a couple of girlfriends to watch a local play - "The Odd Couple: Female Edition". We have another mutual friend who is in the play, so it should be a lot of fun.2 -
It felt so good to hang out with Jasper today 🐴 ! He was, as could only be expected after a week of neglect, grubby, covered with mud, with his shedding hair looking quite horrible. So we had a long and serious grooming session, during which we succeeded in amassing a huge pile of hair - could have made a thin mattress! He looked pretty good by the end, and my arms were tired. He loved having ALL the itches scrubbed. Then we had an excellent workout - we were both good and sweaty by the end.
I bought a new pair of hiking boots on my way home from the US yesterday. I will try them tomorrow or whenever the pelting rain goes away
Hope you're all doing well - and thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes on the passing of my dad. @EvMakesChanges and I appreciate it for sure!3
