Beautiful place in Sedona Bisky! Glad you got away for a bit...sorry Brooks is having a time of it right now. I know the Sh8t Hole Radiation can put you in. (Ewings Sarcoma survivor)

Sorry work is not giving you any relief, Mihani. ((((big hugs))))

Made 8, 16 oz of carrot/pineapple juice for this week. The cost about 18 bucks and 1 1/2 hour of time including prep and clean up. Had I bought at Nekter, it would have been about 90 dollars and they use a high speed juicer...mine is slow...Jama 2.

I have soy yogurt making in the instant pot...hoping it does not taste like refried beans...I should have left the lid off to air out from the last time I made RB.

Enjoying overnight oats, lately...finally landed on a recipe that works.
    1/2 cup oats
    1/2 cup soy milk
    1 T chia seeds
    1 T maple syrup
    cinnamon
    stir stir stir
add 1/2 cup frozen fruit or fresh

    today

    coffee
over night oats, blueberry with lemon zest
    bean burrito
    baked potato, spinach, tofu
    watermelon

now, to try and go back to sleep.

    later, mates.

    Mornin' all,

Nanc, sounds like you're all prepped for the week.

This week continuing with super simple.
B - sweet potato, steamed broccoli and kale, an orange (will take half to the office for a snack) plus a few walnut halves
L - big ol' salad (spring mix, onion, tomato, yellow pepper, carrot, pumpkin seeds)
D - sauteed green peppers and onion with edamame over rice sprinkled with sesame seeds and soy sauce

I'll get in a cup of blueberries somewhere in the day.

waking up after 12 every night...i get up and do stuff, and go back to sleep after about 3 hours. ridiculous.
    6rz9y5jhcaf2.png
my list is not that great...(supposed to be just liquids first week) wish I weren't so scared :/

    B) carrot/pineapple juice 6 more days
    B) homemade soy yogurt
    B) apple sauce
    B) ninja creaminis
    B) I have a box of steamed beets from Costco...wondering if I can make borscht
    B) smoothie (spinach, soy milk, pineapple or blueberries)
decided against protein powder...just because I have never used it...not too keen on experimenting now...but thanks, Mihani, for your recommendations
    B) Costco carries Orgain protein drink...here's another thing I have never tried...not sure about it...but I don't have much of a list. Hmmmmmmm.

If I am in any pain or discomfort, I am taking Thursday off...otherwise, back to work on Thursday.

Today...last day of eating (chewing on my right side)

    coffee
    overnight oats
bean burrito (oh how I will miss you) refried beans for sure after the first week...yay!
    steamed spinach
    carrot juice
    baked potato and yogurt topping
    maybe a ninja creamini...

I have a few dishes to do...then a few games of candy crush and backgammon and then back to bed.

I do realize things could be a lot worse...for that I am grateful.
    Be well, my friends. 7nt18v4wi48p.png

Good luck tomorrow, Nanc! I will be sending all sorts of good thoughts your way. I know it's scary. *hugs*

I don't know if borscht would work out with pre-cooked beets. I googled briefly and one article said you can use them but you won't get as deep color and flavor. I made the most incredible borscht once, but it was a conglomeration of several recipes that I looked at and then winged it. I'll never be able to recreate it.

I totally forgot my boss is going to be out of town tomorrow through Saturday. I am happy he's going to be away for a few days and I can maybe do a little catching up, but it's going to be a long day today. I need to go through all our due dates and make sure that nothing is coming up in the next few days that I missed.

    Plan for today...
B - oats with all the usual goodies (blueberries, chia/flax, chopped baby spinach, cinnamon, a few walnut halves, vanilla, just enough water to moisten)
L - potatoes, steamed broccoli and cauliflower
D - leftover peppers and onions, rice, edamame

thanks all for the good wishes...thanks M for the 411 on the borscht.

If there is enough bone today, they will put in the implant. Prayers for sure on that one.

I had to lorazepam last night...slept pretty well. two more before procedure.

May take tomorrow off just to chill and make sure I do excellent hygiene first day.

carrot/pineapple not good when taking antibiotics. it's all in the freezer now. sO, I will treat myself to green drinks from Nekter. sigh it's the pineapple interfering with the antibiotics.

bought ORGAIN plant protein drink. Wanted to get egg so badly but went with just egg. and no cottage cheese. Too many memories of mistreatment of cows. :'(

    staying totally plant based.

appointment is at 11:30 my time.

will get back to you. as soon as possible.

    love u guys.

Hope all went well, Nanc! Will be anxiously awaiting news. I think taking a day off is wise. You'll probably be kind of sore.

You mentioned cottage cheese and that is one of the very few things I truly miss and there is no real substitute for. I have looked at some recipes and even a "true" cottage cheese made with soy milk, but I haven't tried it yet. Miyoko's is supposed to be coming out with a vegan cottage cheese but it hasn't happened yet.

As I continue to feel kind of crappy, I've decided to do a full on ETL 6 week plan starting next week. Going to do some prepping and batching on Sunday so that I'm ready for week 1. Granted, I will probably do a little more starches than Dr. F allows on the 6 week plan, but not too much more. :)

up in the mid of the night...having coffee

I had some juices left in the freezer from whatever juice deal I ordered last year.

need to pick up some potatoes today...

think I am staying home just to get myself on some kind of routine since I am a bit confused at the moment. still cold stuff today (I didn't ask if coffee was ok)...

tomorrow mashed potatoes, spinach and potatoes and just egg and some vegan "cheese"...and refried beans, but I guess not tortilla since I am really not allow to chew.

The procedure went great...I did not hear a thing of the tooth coming away from the roots...and they played whatever music you asked for...Toby Keith of course.

Everyone was so nice...if you had to go through this, this was the place to do it for sure.

ok, later my friends. Thanks again for your well wishes.

Nanc, glad to hear it all went well. Were they able to do the implant? Maybe get some miso and veggie broth while you are out. Can make miso "soup" just mix miso in hot water or broth and maybe wilt in some spinach or something. Could also make soup of beans and veggies and hit it with an immersion blender. I used to make blended salads too. Just throw all your salad veggies in the blender. You won't need to add much if any water because the veggies and lettuce release enough water. Sometimes I added white beans to the blended salads. The blended salads need some spices and a splash of balsamic or soy sauce, something like that. Otherwise they are dreadfully dull.

I slept pretty decently last night. Boss is off for his long weekend getaway so I hope to do a LOT of catching up this next 4 days. Pretty sure I can mostly work from home this weekend and just go to the office for a few hours on Sunday.

I am still eating mostly potatoes, veggies, fruit. I need to start getting in a lot more beans though. Thus the plan to do Dr. F's 6 week plan. Get back into those good habits and hit all the GBOMBS every day. I still use Austin's great idea of nuking a mushroom to add to salad or cooked veggies every day. Now I throw one in with whatever other veggies I'm cooking in the microwave steamer. I love that thing. It was honestly a game changer in upping my veggie servings.

    Hello

Magic you were so brave and awesome. Anyone who can get knee replacement can get through this.

Mihani- yay Dr. Furhman for the win! He really is my most favorite! I like your easy soup recipe ideas.

A friend who lost her adult daughter to an autoimmune disease that attacked the liver on NY’s eve came over today. We swam laps and then went to gentle yoga here on base. I made us a big Mediterranean salad of chopped romaine, grilled artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, olives, tiny potatoes sunflower seeds and white beans. Forgot onions. Just realized that now. She invited me to a 5 day yoga trip in Cozumel, women only in July! Going to look at it and talk to Brooks.

Sedona and Grand Canyon were wonderful. So beautiful. I was cold. Temp high was low 80’s and dry. San Antonio temps are 90’s to low 100’s with humidity. Enjoyed hiking! Went to a wonderful vegan, juice, smoothie, food place called Local Juicery. Had wonderful smoothies. I bought the vegan protein powder they use called Epic protein by Sprout living. Mixed it this afternoon with banana, blueberries, ginger and lemon….it was great. No strange sweet taste. 👅 best news I reached a 75lb weight loss goal today! 25 more to go.

Visit with eating disorder therapist yesterday. Really going to eliminate all sugar from diet for next couple of days except natural sugars in whole fruit, beansnand nuts.

Thank you both...love the ideas, Mihani for blending everything basically.

the carrot/pineapple juice I made is in the freezer...something about Amoxicillin does not go well with pineapple...it's ok, it will be there when I am done with the Rx.

Still waking up in the mid of the night...grrrrrrrrrrr.

Love the pictures of Sedona, Bisky. I would love for a recommendation to a place to stay there...but let's do it in mail. I think we need to be friends to send each other stuff. Have to work on that.

I did by the orgain at costco. It's ok...I never ever have protein drinks of any sort...so nothing to compare this with. It's ok.

    today

    coffee
green smoothie ... spinach, blueberries, soy milk
    orgain
two juices from when I bought from some place, name escapes me.
home for potatoes and spinach and refried beans.

    later, my friends.

Weird Bisky! I never really looked at my newsfeed anymore, but I wonder why they removed that feature? I saw this https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10915268/welcome-to-your-activity-feed#latest and I guess you go to there to post things now? But not sure how you see other people's feeds other than clicking on their name or how people see your posts?

The pics from your trip are beautiful. Glad you had a good time.

TGIF! I am glad this week is almost over. It has been a rough one.

I can't even figure out how to send a mail anymore...I know I have sent mail to Mihani before...very confused.

Fell back asleep. for a bit.

Glad week is over for you too, M. And I just have to get through today. The invisilign thingy with the tooth is it is very hard to take out...and my mashed potatoes and refried might only be eaten at home for now...cuz I must clean my mouth out after. And too crazy to try and do it at work.

I know I will be hungry at work...so maybe I can get them in without too much bother to my teeth.

    today's final menu for work

coffee still no nutpods...never thought I would give that up...my new frother is amazing...makes really thick hot froth with only soy milk

    two little apple sauces
two juices from SQUEEZED delivery (had in the freezer)
    Orgain protein drink
    beans
    potatoes

    home for some ninja creamini

TC all...thank you for being so kind. They told me I fell asleep during the procedure. It was lorazepam they gave me one hour before procedure. LOL Good stuff. NO chance of becoming addicted. There were four pills...two for the night before and two the day of. They certainly did their job.

I want to take Lulu to Sedona for a get away this summer. Hoping I can connect with Bisky to find out where she stayed. But let's put the info privately somehow.

    Good Morning

Got up early and walked dogs with Brooks and made him a healthy smoothie prior to his radiation treatment this am.

Watching you tube videos about sugar on the tv.

Magic - I sent you info in a message about where we stayed in Sedona. I don’t know if we got a special deal but it was around a $100.00/ night.

Mihani - I can’t believe it is Friday already. What’s on the menu for this weekend?

I have 2 guest rooms set up. Thinking of taking one bedroom out and moving stuff to storage and making a gym. Moving the peleton bike, small weights and yoga mats in there. I visit internal med. Dr next week and going to ask for a referral for balance and posture.

Nanc, how did it go at work today? How are you feeling? What did you think of the orgain?

Bisky, that's a great idea! I have one of my bedrooms with the treadmill, weight bench and exercise bike. Very nice to have a dedicated space for that. I have a TV right in front of the treadmill so I can keep myself occupied. Makes the time go faster and a mile or two is done before I know it. Lately I've been watching some youtubes about WFPB life which reinforces my commitment. I'm always vegan and have been for many years, that's not the issue, it's that I let things that aren't so healthy for me slip in sometimes.

When I first went vegan there really weren't a lot of junky things out there that appealed to me, but apparently the food industry realized they were losing out on the vegan population and exploded with junk. LOL

I made a quick stop at the grocery on the way home. Got asparagus, broccoli, sweet potatoes, kale, spring mix, mushrooms. I already have onions, peppers, carrots and celery, grape tomatoes. Plan for the week is pretty simple

B - sweet potato, steamed kale, mushroom and broccoli, half an orange and some berries, a sprinkle of chia/flax and a couple walnut halves
L - big ol' salad (spring mix, grape tomatoes, carrot, celery, peppers, pickled red onion, chickpeas, pumpkin or sunflower seeds... will have to decide on a dressing to make but often I just use a little bragg's or balsamic with dijon and a sprinkle of nooch and Mrs. Dash Table Blend (my new favorite)
D - some cooked veggies, beans, and maybe some rice or other grain

If I need a snack I'll have some fruit or raw veggies. I have been feeling really run down lately and going to do a full-on Dr. F 6 week plan, but will not limit the starches quite as much as the 6 week plan says. I do plan to keep them to sweet potatoes, oats, rice, farro, butternut squash, etc. Not ezekiel bread and pasta. And NO oil. I have let that creep back into my diet and even though it's minimal it isn't good for me. Will be starting tomorrow!

Oh, I did the best sweet potatoes tonight. First I poked holes and then used the vegetable steamer and microwaved them 4 minutes. Then into the oven at 350 for one hour. They were so moist. A chef in Finland says first steaming them then roasting at a lower temp makes them fluffier and less dry. Brooks said I had a winner. He is very fatigued tonight.

I'll have to give your sweet potato idea a try, Bisky. How is Brooks feeling today?

I saw this about cooking sweet potatoes not long ago and they come out great in the microwave: https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/how-to-cook-sweet-potatoes/

I met up with friends for a couple cocktails last night. Figured may as well have a last night out before I get started on the 6 week plan since I won't be having any alcohol for the next 6 weeks at least. It was lots of fun. I am feeling a little sluggish this morning though. I don't tolerate alcohol so well as I get older. Just a couple will make me feel blah the next day. If I go out over the next 6 weeks then I'll just order club soda with lime.

Today is laundry and working from home. I will go to the office for a few hours tomorrow morning then visiting with the family.

Mihani - good sweet potato recipes! One of the things I miss about Japan grocery stores are the warm roasted sweet potatoes. Brooks and I would share one on ride home. No butter or seasonings but oh so good.

Brooks has fatigue but he powers through it. We had a sunrise walk with dogs on the track. No one was around so dogs got to be off leash. Obi had his 3rd obedience class and did well. Then lunch at a restaurant that allows dogs! He was exhausted when we got home. I had a huge salad and had the rest for dinner plus shared it with Brooks.

Yeah, I don't think sweet potatoes need anything, Bisky. They have enough flavor on their own. For the breakfast bowls that I've been making lately I just have sweet potato, some steamed kale, broccoli and mushroom, an orange. The only seasoning I use is a little bit of balsamic and Mrs. Dash on the greens. Then I eat a couple walnut halves with it. Usually more than I can eat so I throw the leftovers in with my lunch salad.

I am going to try tahini on the sweet potato one of these days though. For years I had trouble giving up Earth Balance because I love ezekiel toast, but now I prefer tahini on toast and haven't bought Earth Balance in a couple years.

I didn't quite get to starting the 6 week plan yesterday and today may have a little store-bought hummus when I visit with the family. Only thing not totally compliant yesterday was I made a waffle because I finally tried out the waffle maker that I bought a year ago and all the easy recipes with ingredients on hand used half white flour and half wheat flour. Unfortunately, I didn't bother to read the directions or look up how to use the waffle maker. Totally overfilled it and the batter oozed out all over the unit and counter. Took me half an hour to clean up the unit and was almost tempted to throw it out, but perseverance, a microfiber cloth, toothbrush and toothpicks got all the batter off and out of all the crevices. I was kicking myself pretty good there. LOL

On the bright side, the waffle that was made from the batter that actually stayed inside the unit tasted great! I'm going to try a different recipe that doesn't use white flour next weekend: https://shaneandsimple.com/vegan-belgian-waffles/

The whole thing started because I finally decided to make the waffle iron hash browns which was the reason I bought the waffle maker in the first place, and I had the potatoes in the freezer. I don't think the idea was meant for a belgian waffle maker though. The holes are too deep. They didn't come out as a waffle just had to dump them scattered on a plate but they were wonderfully crispy and tasty. Seasoned with paprika, onion and garlic powder, pepper before cooking.

Going to be at my desk by 8 am this morning and work until 2:00 then get ready to go to visit family. Decided against going to the office today. Plenty to do here. Got some chores done yesterday but only worked a few hours so I need to focus today. Only chores left are changing the sheets and mopping up the kitchen.

Off to get started on the day!

Mihani - I can picture the hot mess and you scrubbing. I use almond flour to make gluten free waffles. I like it better as the almond waffles are crispier are on the outside. Make a big batch and freeze them.

Magic - are you okay? How is the healing going?

Carla - Still missing you !

Today we met friends at the land bridge for a nice walk at 0730. It was so hot and humid I almost passed out. Became very dizzy. I had a protein shake and plenty of water. Stopped and sat in the shade while they continued…😞 only did 2 miles instead of 4-5. It was the heat and humidity. We had a total of 7 dogs on the walk. Obi was very good. A few barks and settled down. I am home and my head is still spinning and nauseous. Think I am going to break down and take some meclizine. I felt so bad did not even take pics of all the dogs. 😢

Yikes, Bisky. Glad you hydrated well after that. I don't do well in extreme heat at all. Hope the medication helped.

Got some work done, had a really nice visit with the family. Going to bed extra early and get rested up to face another week.

Well, I made it to 3am...getting better. Sure is better than 1.

Doing ok on the healing part...refried beans, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes...everything on the right side of my mouth...I go back the 25th for a check up. The implant is in...so that is a good thing. There was enough bone. Yay for something.

Behind in posts...so I need to catch up. Just wanted to pop in and say hello and I am doing ok. Love you guys.

ETA: Orgain is ok...I have never been one for the pre made protein drinks...so I have nothing to compare this with. I am just using it for work. My carrot/pineapple juice is in the freezer. Apparently the pineapple is not recommended when you are on amoxicillin. I have five more days of two, 500 ml, a day. My green smoothie ...I like it with spinach and pineapple, so that will wait as well. I might make my vegetable spaghetti dish. It's soft and healthy.

Glad you are doing okay, Nanc. I agree... not a big fan of the premixed protein things but they are handy at times.

It was a rough day. It's only Monday and I'm worn out! LOL

Going to have a bit to eat and head to bed early. I'm beat.

NOT sleeping well at all. Too much on my mind. This article does help, however.

Just found this article. I have been preaching this for a long time. I want to die healthy. Like a car that is in great condition but just runs out of gas.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/older-americans-will-spend-12-years-living-with-disability-or-disease-why-are-we-so-unhealthy/ar-AA1fCsiA?ocid=winp2fptaskbar&cvid=1c2ae0f8aefe451c842991106ba88b2a&ei=8&sc=shoreline

I love the last line...for me, perfect! “I do think people like to feel useful,” he said. “Continuing to work should not be viewed as a failure.”

ETA: Yes, I know, not sleeping is for SURE not healthy. Trying to resolve the issues that are keeping me up at night.

    Mihani Posts: 4,139 Member
Good article, Nanc. Sorry you are still not sleeping well. I sure hope I don't have to continue to work though. My job is killing me and if I survive the next 4 years I hope I can get out. I could see maybe picking up a PT job somewhere after that but it would be something much easier and less stressful.

I had a great WFPB kind of day yesterday and plan for today is the same.

B - oats with all the usual goodies (berries, cherries, chopped baby greens, 1 T chia/flax, cinnamon, half a scoop of protein powder, a few walnut halves)
L - sweet potato, steamed broccoli, mushroom and kale, chickpeas, an orange, sprinkle of sesame seeds, balsamic, Mrs. Dash
D - smoothie with greens, berries, cinnamon, half a scoop of protein powder, 1 T chia/flax)

For now, I'm going to continue to have a scoop of protein powder throughout the day even though I'm not convinced it's the healthiest thing, but it does seem to keep me full longer.

Don’t fret, my friend. You don’t have to work, M! You have to feel “useful “ the article says. I see you volunteering at an animal shelter, after retirement . 🐶❤️🐶. Or

Fostering dogs like Bisky and Brooks.

    Something like that.

My job serves two purposes…🌟🌟 Financial and Social…you know what I mean.
