@Pupowl Headaches are awful. I suffer from them too. Good for you for going for that walk anyway! I loved the picture of the pretty caterpillar. Yay for two great days!

    Hello Shape Shifters! Welcome, @globalhiker!

I’m Patrice, a 58 year old woman living in northern Virginia (USA) with my husband. We have two adult sons who spend most of their time at college. Our younger son attends Clemson University and lives in an apartment near his campus in South Carolina. Our older son lives close to our extended family in Boston, MA. He’s a student at Boston College, attending part-time while working (also part-time). My husband and I spend about one week a month in Boston to care for aging family members. There’s always a long ‘To Do List’ when we visit — In fact, we just got back late last night!

I started MFP in 2020 at my highest non-pregnancy weight of 168, and I lost almost 50 pounds by September 2021, before settling in a comfortable-for-me range of 125-130 for about a year. Then, I started focusing on some other areas of life I want to improve and gradually gained back about half the weight over the last couple of years. Now, I’m finally seeing a downward trajectory again! — I’m about 20 pounds over my target weight of 125.

This month, I’d like to increase my exercise and overall movement. I’ll weigh and measure my food more regularly so that I’m not guesstimating the number of ‘calories in’ so much. Sometimes my body thinks it’s hungry when it’s actually thirsty or tired so I’ll try to drink more water and get enough sleep, too. Best wishes for September, everyone. Go get those goals!

    Good morning everyone,

It's about 330am, and I couldn't get back to sleep after my son woke me up (he's fast asleep now on the couch now), so I thought I would stop in here to say hi and maybe ramble a bit.

Overall, I've been doing pretty well. I still have the fresh motivation pushing me. I'm sure it won't last, but I'm going to get all that I can out of it while it's here.

I've been doing well at getting my running in. I've been going to the gym at night consistently since Saturday. It seems to be coming back pretty fast. When I did my first run on Saturday, I struggled a little doing one mile at a slow pace. Last night, I did 2 miles at a slow pace, but it didn't seem to be such a struggle. I know I'll have to work to get back to where I was, but I'm hoping it'll go a bit quicker this time around.

I've also been trying to get small walks in. The weather is still too hot to do any real walking, but I have been trying to squeeze in what I can. I take my boys for a short "night-night walk" before their bedtime. We also go up to the gas station a short walk down the road and get a drink or something in the morning if it's not too hot. And sometimes we just go to Walmart or target and wonder around a bit.

Food has also been going well. I've been pre logging my food (something I've never done), which seems to help. I've made my calorie goals most days.

The tl;dr version is I'm off to a good start and hoping the 'newbie' motivation will last long enough for my changes to become habit.

I hope you all have a good day.

I haven't set any Sept goals so since it's still the beg of the month I thought I'd do some. But first maybe I'll recap my Aug goals to see how things went.

    1. Track daily - I believe I met this goal, with at most 1-2 days not well tracked
    2. Don't lose control over diet during vacation - I had 2 mini getaways/car trips during Aug and while I did eat higher calorie foods, it was in a much more reasonable manner than my usual junk food filled trips. On one gas station fill up I desperately wanted to grab a bag of chips but decided to try to meat stick snacks. Both times we were at a coffee shop I wanted some mocha frappy whippy concoction, but opted for a wacky black espresso orange juice combo, and then a plain americano and a savoury food item instead. Pounding sugar just because "I'm on vacation" is really something I'm trying to change.
    3. Stay within calorie deficit. Given my calorie inputs into MFP and my target probably have major inaccuracies, all I can go with here is did I lose weight? Yes I lost 2.8 lbs in Aug, which is ever so slightly above my 0.5 lb/week goal that I've set my calories to.

So 2 vacations plus I got c*vid during the month, still ended up ok from a food/weight perspective.

    So for Sept
    1. Goal is to track, maintain deficit Week 1 and 4. Week 2 is my milestone week where I'll be on a work trip eating hotel and restaurant food for 4 days straight so I'm using that and Week 3 as a maintenance break. I'll be on week 14/15 of this mini weight loss journey during those weeks and i've heard it's good to build in a break so this is a good time for it.
    2. Goal for hotel week - Order a healthy dinner with no deep fried foods. Focus on something high protein. Maybe I'll take pics of what I ended up ordering!
    3. I've never set exercise goals for myself. Looking back at my Strava I logged 14 activities in Aug and 19 in July. I think the easiest goal is to commit to 1 run and 1 bike per week. And I will try to use the hotel gym once. I think that's the most I will commit to.

@Pupowl It's nice to see you on a streak of successful days! I find the longer my streak is, the more motivated I get to stay on it.

also welcome new group members, i think i saw one of you is a runner - i love running too! best of luck on your journeys this month.

My goals this month are to:

A- Adopt a new daily habit: measure portions
B - Move more: extend my run/walk time to a full hour minimum which approximates 10k steps
C- Be aware of my consumption: keep to 1200 calories daily for at least 6 days a week.
D - Stress less: add a yoga gym class to my weekly routine, read, nap, or do something to relax.

Today ran/walked 4 miles in 1 hour. Haven't overeaten. Measured my popcorn. Took a nap to reduce stress.
