Chris...how do you do your cauli rice? I don't have a large food processor so I've never done it since that's what all of the recipes I've seen say to use.0
-
just nuke it in the microwave for a bit too long and then mash it. I didn't cook long enough to go to mash so ends up more like "rice" texture.0

Was going to do RDL's but upper back didn't like it so just did some light stuff. Mainly bag work. Then Woody got the KB out for some swings so had a go. At no. 20 I felt something strange in my lower back right hand side near SI joint. Has felt like **** since

Shirted bench session with Liam today. Showed me how to get it a bit tighter and definitely worked. (have the marks to prove it ) Started by trying to touch 100kg which I can "just" do. Then moved to part rom "invisible board press" otherwise known as the regular bench press for the majority of people at my commercial gym Solid tricep work.
Finished with some maddog slingshot and back work which felt fine as long as my legs were straight. CGBP rep PR also.
Also, while doing some stuff I noticed I still have a visual difference in triceps. Anyone know WTF the right side looks like it has an indent close to arm pit? I seem to have the same thing in my right pec.

Plenty of clients today so pretty active and I went to the sauna with cricket ball for mobility and soft tissue work.
Also did mass meal prep as I've been super busy lately.

Prepping so much food you have to store it in measuring jugs! Love it.
 I swear I had more containers than that!
Things have possibly gone full circle as I "may" end up trying out the cube method finally. Main reason being that I now want to incorporate more equipped lifting and picking the "heavy" day each week as equipped day makes sense and is a fair bit easier then my plan of using sheiko and adjusting percentages for maxes with equipment vs raw etc. The main one being bench as I can't even touch my chest with anything less than 90% of max and sheiko doesn't even go that high. It's all about the 2board and 3 board work.
Still plenty of time to make up my mind though. Still have to let the injuries recover. Off to Japan in 3 weeks for 3 weeks so plenty of rest time there. Snowboarding for 8 or day 9 days and then sight seeing.
Hopefully my muscles won't fall off while I'm over there I will turn up at my old gym while I'm there though. WHen I lived there and went there regularly I used to just go to body combat classes for cardio haha. Last time I went there I was about 78kg and deadlifting 180kg. Now 84kg and deadlifting 240kg. Seem to get bigger every time I go over there haha.
Oh yeah, just putting this in writing but I'm unsure if I will compete at nats in June raw or equipped. I really wanted to get a 600kg raw total this year and have either nats in June or Spring Cup in Sep to do it. Was originally planning on competing equipped in Nov at equipped only comp. Hmm...
Throwing out some numbers for equipment. 227.5/120/260 is current max for a total of 607.5kg. Have only squatted once, benched 3x and deadlifted twice so plenty of room for technique improvement especially with squat and bench. I know it's not a given by my mate Liam who squats basically the same as me in the same weight class has squatted 275kg in the same gear as me after a year of practice/training. 275/145/280 sounds like a good target I reckon. 700kg total.
Now to hurry up and let injuries recover.0 -

Floor press felt good. Last rep on the last 2 sets were pretty tough. Lots of pullups and reverse flys. Did everything from cable x-over onwards later in the arvo. Also did a lot of paused goblet holds in my classes today.

Morning mma circuit. 1min on 30 sec off. 3 rounds. 20kg KB clean and press, 12/16/20kg KB TGU, tyre flip, 20kgx2 farmers walk and shrug, sled drag (row), battle ropes, 55kg axle clean and push press.
Then I had a technique session with a client and did my own stuff also. After the rows my lower back felt a bit funny so I did my speed stuff with close to zero arch, belt on and feet flat and further away (not underneath butt like normal). It was actually feeling really good so I decided to go up to some heavy stuff and pyramid back down. Turns out 90x4 is a 4rm too Felt REALLY solid on the bench this way but ROM is much greater. Will see. 1" pause was down near flat also. Pause for about a second and 3 seconds on the last one.
Also, pretty exciting news. Kee and I bought a unit today. 2bdrm, 3rd level, ocean views, garage for my gym to go in. Won't be moving in until May when tenant moves out.
Going out for Mitch's 30th tonight. Probably be hectic haha.

Ran boot camp this morning and did a few KB things. Was good fun. Pretty tough for them actually.
Then went to physio and got some soft tissue work done on thoracic, lower back and left glute. Did all my mobility stuff there also. Showed me some hip tilt (posterior so going to take a vid to make sure lumbar spine is still neutral) stuff I can do for block pull deadlifts now that the upper back is feeling a bit better. Plan is to continue with all this until I get back from Japan. Then if required. MRI to get 100% diagnosis. Could be intra joint or external (tight muscles). He suspects both. If I can work on the soft tissues I can get back to as best as my hip can do. At that point, I will decide sumo or not I'd say. Option of slightly narrower or toes forward a bit also.
All bench was minimal arch again today. Felt good.

Couldn't lock out the 272.5kg and was still fried for the 260 raw. May have been slightly optimistic on that one haha.

Really happy with the floor pressing today. Only 2.5kg below by 5rm and did it for 7 sets. And I was aiming for over 12 on the 60kg back off sets. Just pumped up out. All explosive chins done so that hands come off the bar at the top.

First up was mma circuit training. 3mins on 1min off. A circuit was 55kg axle, clean and push press, sled drag and ab wheel rollours. B circuit was battle ropes, KB swings and snatches and tyre flips.
Also, at the start I power snatched the 55kg axle. Ugly *kitten* form haha. And on one of the rounds I decided to walk about 40m with the axle overhead.
Then 1hr of BJJ technique mainly. However, was able to tap a blue belt for only the second time in my training! Got him with a pretty sweet triangle to arm bar combo.
Kee was doing her sparring while I was doing that
Then 1hr of aqua fun park. Swimming around, jumping off things and practicing backflips. I still suck haha.
Then trained some clients and did my bench and tried some squats in briefs as it feels like it's been too long since I've had some heavy weight on my back
Bench went pretty well. Slingshot felt a bit weak though. Oh well. Briefs farkin' hurt so they are damn tight but they don't seem to help much? IDK if I'm doing it wrong or what. I've done 200x2 raw before. On the missed lift I was concentrating way too much on the pain around hips I think, forgot to push haha.

Bootcamp in the morning. Did a few things there too. Some jogging and handstands too.
Mid session was modded smolov. 3rm is 93.5kg so REALLY happy with the 5 sets of 3 at 92.5kg. Shirted bench just wasn't working. Couldn't get my setup tight at all. CGBP is still progressing well.
Then did my hypertrophy assistance stuff for chest and tris. Then after that Kee was training so I did a few of the things she was doing too. SOHP all with no belt. I normally use a belt for 5 rep sets. Felt good. Had a crack at the big db's single arm OHP too. Previous PB was 37.5kg. Smashed it! Took me a couple of cracks at it but it just took some adjusting of the starting position to get into a good strong pressing position.

Just got back from Japan yesterday. Lots of snowboarding, lots of walking and push bike riding but even more eating and drinking! Was up to 87.8kg yesterday and I left at 85kg. Not too bad. Back to dieting now.
I did 2 sessions in Japan. One at my old gym in Hakuba and the other at spa world in Osaka. Was pretty funny in Hakuba as the gym is raised timber floor so I asked the owner if I was allowed to Deadlift. He said some big aussie guy was doing 200kg one time and put a dent in the floor hence him giving me 40mm blocks to pull from :P I made sure I did a bit more than 200kg :P The gym in Osaka had machines that had pressure canisters instead of weights and you just change it with a button. Was pretty cool how it worked actually.
And I did first session for Nats prep in June today. Running sheiko 37. Was planning to do one of them equipped but glad I didn't first day back as need to get the feel of it again first. I am going to be training at PTC every Saturday and will do all my equipped bench and squat on that day.
I also went to the physio as my upper back is still playing up (despite rest). Plan is to get back to regular training and see how it goes (while continuing my physio exercises) and if I'm not happy with it in a week or 2, I'll get some scans. On the positive side, my left hip is feeling better than it has in about a year all from mass amounts of glute and hip flexor stretching as well as extra soft tissue work.

Update for the week.
SOHP was a bit average but as expected as I haven't done much lately. Was very happy with the chinups though! This is my additional assistance day.
Day 2 sheiko 37 using floor press at 100kg and high bar squat instead of deadlift (same %'s as Day 1) at 180kg. I added the 90kg single as it felt a bit easy. I think I'll up the max to 110kg like regular bench press next week. High bar squat 1rm has never been tested so this was estimated. All felt pretty easy and I was pausing the last rep of each set. I was running short of time so I did the 5 sets of 3 as 1 set of 15 hehe. Sorry Boris. Other stuff was random and done during my classes during the day. Good fun actually, KB swings and sprints.
37 W1D3. First time with equipment. I tried my suit for at 165kg but it appears to have loosened up a bit as I'm up some weight but I am now able to make depth with bw Alex suggested getting the sleeves shortened by about 3cm initially. (will need another adjustment later at some stage). So I decided to ditch the suit and try on the briefs. They are the same size but for some reason feel a bit tighter around the quads/*kitten*. So it turns out (as expected) I was using these totally wrong as I didn't even pull them up at the back. So basically, they just farkin' hurt but gave no additional pop out of the hole LOL. Got that sorted and was practicing in the monolft too which was great. All sets pretty easy coming up just working on getting down efficiently.
Alex suggested paused front squats for thoracic strength and also to really arch my lower back hard.
Then I did equipped bench with Patrick who knows the ins and outs of it all. Learnt a heap. For starters, he showed me how to properly put the shirt on The bottom of the shirt should be taken in a bit as it is crumpling a little under my belt.
We were not locking out the first rep on purpose to keep tension in the shirt and the second descent was always a lot easier than the first. I was using pinkies on rings grip for most of it which felt ok but on the last one tried something different and went wide with ring finger on rings. Don't know if it was just because I wanted to get it over with but they were the fastest reps of the day! Something to play with.
All up with warmups and waiting for spotters etc. that was a 5hr session at PTC! I was a bit stuff after that. Had a great massage as my left trap was still sore (before I even got there).
me and my mono
Weight has been up and down this week. Been pretty good nutritionally but also had my belated bday dinner night. The very high weigh in at 88kg was because I wokeup starving at 4am and ate 1kg of yoghurt LOL.
So week 1 of nats prep is in the books. Very happy with how it went considering no training for 3 weeks prior. WIll continue with LOTS of mobility work.

Was going to do 3 singles at 210kg but the first was very easy and Zach was squatting 220 so I went up. 220 was still quite easy (and looked and felt better than the 227.5kg video'd). Straps still down as they need shortening anyway, don't do a great deal at present haha. No wraps, still using the lifting large multi ply sleeves.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyetbCjJja4
Bench went up to 105 today and they were about the same speed as the 100's last week. Got some more tips from Patrick mainly to do with my elbow positioning. Forearm is not staying directly inline with elbow/wrist bar so when I press it's more like I'm pushing my forearm out first and then rotating around to get back under the bar. Need to work on this in the shirt.
Also, was watching Nat take a bench technique session and going to implement some of his setup cues. See how it goes tomorrow.
That session took about 4.5hours DED after! Drove home and then walked to sauna for cricket ball massage haha.0 -

Squats all felt good today, upper back and trap all felt good. Nothing too difficult. Did the second section all high bar. Bench: today was the first day that I have used my squat shoes for benching. El Freako was saying that it helps with leg drive for flat feet people. It actually felt really good. I was playing around with the grip width also as going wider really helped with the shirt. Still find that ring figer on the rings is best for me. Then used red slingshot for the second section of bench. Pinkies on the rings for this seems to work best and I really felt like I was in the groove with these, did and extra couple on the last set.
Then all the assistance stuff done in a circuit style. About 1 min rest between rounds. 3hr session all up. Feeling good.
My left adductor was really tight before I started but as soon as I got into it, it felt great. Biceps/elbows were feeling really odd too so I did some compression stretching and used elbow sleeves for benching.
Went to the sauna at night with cricket ball. Focusses on glutes, left adductor, upper back, traps, triceps and forearms.

Firstly, some not so good news re my thoracic spine.
So, Kurt the physio said that the degeneration in a few of my disks is quite normal for people my age who play sport. T7-8 disc is actually touching the nerve which is why I have pain. He basically said that additional weight and load over time would be the reason why, not necessarily anything specific.
My options are: continue with my current rehab (thoracic wedge, rotations, shoulder pull back things) and keep training while keeping an eye on pain (pretty much what I've been doing). Alternatively, get cortisone shot and full rest for a week, this would settle down the inflamed area.
I said, I would normally have a good deload before comp anyway (and this time it would be 3 weeks) so my plan is to keep training and keeping an eye on things. I will swap the squats that I was doing on Mon/Thu for leg press to reduce spinal load. I will also ditch the overhead press (as he said this is easy to aggravate it). I will train at PTC with briefs only so I can practice the technique but that will limit the loads I can use (compared to full suit).
Going to doc and will get referral for cortisone shot and schedule that for my deload period. (around mid May) He said if it is then feeling ok, I could easily just reschedule it anyway.
He said, regular loosening of the area with massage would be worthwhile.
I asked him about rows and chins and he said as long as neutral neck and not excessive body motion, they should be fine.
Oh, no need for surgery at all. Said no need to see any specialists.
1/4/13 (before physio)
Equal PB for SOHP. Triceps were absolutely dead for Push pressing though and couldn't equal my 80kg max. Left trap tightened up hardcore so I did pure isolation stuff instead of heavy chins.

Good session today. Was meant to go to 92.5x2x2 but the first set felt quite easy so I went up to 95kg and after 2 reps I thought I'd go for a third. Turns out new 3rm PB by 1.5kg This was with chalk on bench and squat shoes like last week. All felt good Was going for reps at 100kg with slingshot and made 3 sets of 6, all of which were above my previous 5rm. CGBP "may" be aggravating left trap but will see. Was working up to 3 sets of 12 before I up the weight. (grip is one handwidth in from regular) I think the floor pressing is really helping all regular bench pressing as I feel like I can just keep pressing now rather than doing that bloody twisting movement because of the right side imbalance.
Plenty of volume for the assistance stuff. Doing skull crushers with legs up for some core activation.

Upped floor press pyramid weights by a little on the way up and it was considerably tougher. My left trap was annoyingly tight again. Got a solid PB on the 5+ set for chins at +12kg too. I was very fatigued by the time I got to ring chins.
Leg press finally felt heavy for the 5's today. Still getting weird looks doing hip thrusts LOL.
I had my class do the 20reps of those 4 exercises at the end and I decided to join in. Did all 20 chins in one go with no breaks which I was happy with at this bw.
Also ran 3 S&C classes today so random stuff inbetween also. Did a couple of muscle ups into L sit and L sit pullups. Attempted the leg raise to rollover but stopped as I thought I may put my thoracic spine in too much flexion. No pain today with all this training. Great day
