Swim Lessons ; 3 of my Tri-Athlon Friends are in the group so we stacked in one lane and pushed each other. Lots of Front Crawl Drills and then Instructional Breaks. 1200 meters, 1 hr.
Another great 2700 y swim. Another shower with no hot water. Drawing on the "Submarine Shower" training I learned from my Navy vet father years ago in Girl Scouts!
Better than rolling in the Snow.

    Hello all, happy new year!

I swam once over my holiday vacation, but I wanted to see if you guys had input/opinions...
I got my ears pierced (2nd holes) about a week and a half ago. I've been getting mixed messages on whether I can swim or not. The woman at the piercing place said I could, online I've read that I shouldn't, but I've also read that I can...
I swam once a few days after the piercing and the water didn't bug me, but my swim cap pressing on my ears did, so I haven't gone back. That was a week ago. My ears aren't as tender as they were last week, but still...I don't want an infection.
    Any thoughts?

You should be okay. Just make sure you position your swimcap so it doesn't bother you. I usually only cover the top of my ears, it really bothers me when it covers the whole ear and kind of "seals" it. Also, you might try just ceaning/disinfecting once you get out of the pool? Dabbing your lobes with some rubbing alcohol or something?

@fishgutzy : amazing. How long does that take you? My preferred option on weeknights is a one hour session starting at 7pm. There's an 0600 session for laps but either I: a) won't get up for that or b) have to drive my kid to early session at high school.

I got in the pool on this frosty evening and felt like a total slug. Only one other person in the pool. Foot cramps and awkward breathing. Got out before my hour was done, thinking I was wasting my time. Turns out (according to my Garmin Swim watch) I was 2 secs/100 faster than the previous couple of sessions. Clearly I have some more learning to do. 2000 yds in 46 minutes.

Missed my laps before class today, but I went with my daughter on Tuesday and tried (emphasis on that word...) to incorporate some TI thinking into my swim. I haven't shelled out the money for the DVDs, but I did swim thinking about balance, slow down, few bubbles, etc. I had a good swim that day and was looking forward to today, but work prevented it. No matter, I'll be back!

Cool and dry last night, only one other swimmer that is a regular. Why he insists on always taking the lane next to me when there are five to choose from is a mystery. Sluggish and crampy pace, 2250 yards 53 minutes active swim time.

    Thursday 2016-01-07 Swim Lessons. ~1300m
    Warmup Front/Breast/Back 3x 50m = 150m
    Fr Crw Ladders 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 - 100 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 10s RI ) = 500m
    Br Ladders 25 - 50 - 75 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 15s RI ) = 300m
    Bk Laders 25 - 50 - 75 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 15s - 30s RI ) = 300m
    50m Cooldown Br & Bk

    Friday 2016-01-08
90 minute Lane Swim 3 Double Lanes and 4 swimmers WoHo.

    Warmup Front/Breast/Back 3x 50m = 150m
    Kick Drills Fr/Br/Bk 3x50m - 150m
    Fr Crw Ladders 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 - 150 - 100 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 15s RI ) = 650m
    Br Ladders 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 15s RI ) = 400m
    Bk Laders 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 - 75 - 50 - 25 ( 15s - 30s RI ) = 400m
    50m Cooldown Br & Fr Total ~1800m
The Last 3 sets in the Bk Stroke Ladders I needed a Pool Buoy as my Feet were dead - No Kick left and were starting to drag really bad.
Just about a Duplicate of the Lessons from Thursday - I added some kick drils and a little Length to the other drills.

I keep dropping my Left Wrist on my Front Crawl after 4-500m - Can you say Parking Brake - When I drop the Wrist the Heel of the Hand enters the Water first and the Finger tips are last. A dead give away is the huge bubble trail that follows my hand on the stroke.

On Back Stroke my Right arm is not straight when it Enters the water causing a little Drag and body swing. I blame that one on a Partial Shoulder Separation from a Downhill Skiing injury when I was Young(er) and Foolish.

Flip turns are falling apart - to far from the wall or to close. When I am to far from the wall I have no pushoff. When I am to close to the wall I tend to under rotate which means that when I push off I am Heading Down into the water instead of up towards the surface.

    2400m that nearly killed me!

    2X200 as free/back by 50
    2X200 as back/br by 50
    2X200 as fly/br by 25

    8X25 kick sprint

    4X75 free as 50 steady 25 sprint

    6X100 pull as 75 free 25 br

    100 easy

Definitely gotten unfit with not doing proper training for a month!

Missed laps before class... again. I can swim laps instead of class, but they really serve two different purposed for me both mentally and physically.

I'm seeing a swim goal forming here.

First day back in the pool today in about 6 months. Took me 55 minutes to swim a mile, but in the end it felt good.

Have not been to masters practice for a while due to various holiday/back to school reasons. Went in for a lap swim, pool was crowded, feeling out of shape, so did maybe 1800m. Nothing structured, no long distances, between crowded lane and out-of-shapeness, the longest swim at a time was 200backstroke.
