Hey guys I didn't get the chance to use the computer long enough sun/mon, so here's my check-in.
Exercise: 103 mins
loss of 0.5 lbs
Have a great week everyone!0 -
Ugh sorry guys my work is INSANE right now (Boss going on maternity leave) -- we're stealing the Gryffindor challenges this month.
Be stealthy.0 -
NEWTS– Plan your meals ahead of time for at least 3 days this week. Post your plan the day before – let us see what you’re eating! If there is something specific you are working to get more of, like fiber for example, make sure to include that in your post so other house members can offer suggestions for you! 1 NEWT for each day you post, 1 NEWT for each day you stick to your plan, and then 1 free NEWT because you’re all awesome!
OWLS – Try something new this week! If you just stick to the elliptical or treadmill at the gym, try taking a yoga or zumba class if you haven’t before. Or if you’re big into the strength training, find some new moves you haven’t done before. Bicep curls can get boring, so what other moves can you do to work out those biceps?
3 OWLS for doing the new activity and then 4 OWLS for posting about what you did, why you liked it or didn’t like it, and if you did like it, will you start to incorporate this into your regular routine?
Just wanted to clarify...this is the challenge for this week correct? My starting weight is 193.5. So excited for this
Yes, these are the challenges for this week! Sorry for any confusion.0 -

snack: 2 T yogurt dip with 8 wheat thins
Dinner: Salmon with ginger sauce & steamed green beans with slivered almonds
Same vitamins & fiber drink.
Day 3 : Oatmeal with blueberries, 1% milk, honey, tea
Lunch: 1/2 chicken pita with veges in it (going out to lunch at health food cafe) they also serve small side salad with it with raspberry dressing.
Dinner: Other 1/2 of pita and some homemade applesauce (from our trees I made and froze last Oct!!)

Thats about how I eat, I add more when exercising so if it seems little its because its about 1200 cal or so and with sciatica stuff i do a light walk only if i do more i eat more!
And besides the tea I drink and love I drink water with a bit of fresh lemon juice in it throughout the day. And bring this with me if I go anywhere.0 -
Sorry I'm so late to check in! I was on my 4 year anniversary weekend vacation with my guy, and things have been super busy since I got back!
Maintained my weight ...even with the vacation! :-D
1224 exercise minutes (5168 calories burned).
I just looked back to my weekly burn totals for the past couple of months, and my weekly calorie burns have DOUBLED since I got my heart rate monitor! A little of it might be just logging more accurately, but I know that most of it is because having it really inspires me to work out more, and being able to look at my wrist and SEE the number of my heart rate motivates me to keep it up and not get lazy!
Pretty happy about that I can see the results, too. I'm way more fit and sculpted!0 -
Whoop! Finally in the Slytherin Common Room! Now... when I post my stats tomorrow, do I do that as a 'first' or should I post it with the loss from last weigh in? And how do we steal points from other houses  can we do that...? *whistle*
Also, I hardly ever track my exercise properly on here, but suppose I'll do that from now on then.0 -
Okay, weighed in today and am at 174lbs. 1lb down from last week.0
-
Whew. Sorry I went MIA guys - I had such a stressful 2 weeks and my boss is out on maternity leave as of Monday so we've just been scrambling trying to make sure all her work is covered for the next 3 months.0
-
Yesterday I finally tried the assisted pullup/dip machine at the gym! Why did I wait so long to do that? I felt amazing afterwards and can definitely feel it in my back/shoulders. Will most definitely be adding this to my strength training routine!0
-
Weighed in at 297.5, which is down from 305 last week, but up from 294 from weeks ago. Not really sure where that sticks me here lol.0
-
Last week 140.2, this week 139.4…finally made the 30's, yay!
I had about 200 min of exercise, starting to walk again around country block. 7 newts, 0 owls.0 -
If weigh-ins are Fri-Sun... does this mean we get a new challenge tomorrow?0
-
Down 0.5 lbs since last week.
926 exercise minutes (3772 calories burned).
Sucked at NEWTs and OWLs this week0 -
Weight stayed the same at 193.5. Happy with that since my eating was horrible last week. Exercised 440 minutes for total calorie burn of 3398. 1 Newt for me, 7 owls.0
-
Oh Leaders we need a new challenge!!!!!
If you guys need some help let the rest of us know….0 -
I was serious that we're stealing challenges from Gryffindor. Heh. Heh heh. Ok I'm modifying them slightly but still.
OWL (exercise): Invisible Chair! http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/fitness/fitness-plan-two-weeks-oct06#slide-8
Set, a goal of how many reps of 30 seconds or 1 minute you will do each day and then do them.
Each day you reach your daily goal you earn 3 OWLs, you earn 1 OWLs for trying but not completing them.
NEWT (food): Share a new recipe! (or an old one! Search around for something that looks good and try it, or make an old favorite and tell us about it).
Bron does SPEW points for them - whats the opposite of that?!0 -
Recipe:
Tonight for dinner my boyfriend and I had bison burgers.
He minced some onion and garlic and mixed it into the ground bison meat, along with 2 tablespoons of Stubb's original BBQ sauce. Then he cooked the burgers in a pan on medium heat. We put a little Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese on top when it was almost through cooking so it would melt.
I ate mine without a bun/bread, as I always do with burgers... I got in that habit because I haven't been eating any gluten since way before they made gluten free bread or burger buns.
They were SUPER tasty! My burger had 40 grams of protein in it. Awesome!0 -
I'm going to try 3 reps of 30 minute wall sits... I'll evaluate this goal and re-set it if need be0
-
hello all, checking in.
Weight 167.4 (loss of 1.4)
exercise mins 137 (1653 calories)
have a great week everyone!0 -

Opposite of SPEW?
ELF. Elf Leashing Federation.
Thanks for the challenges!
I'm gonna try to do 3 x 30sec each day... for the chair thing. Sounds hard!
Recipe, just did this on Sunday. Delish!!
Potato & Cauliflower Gratin (think in the US you'd call it scalloped potato & cauliflower?)
Serves 4:
500g potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices
1/2 small cauliflower head, cut into small pieces
1/2 small onion finely chopped
100g grated cheese, (I used grated Mozzarella)
60ml low fat cream (I used Weight Watcher fat reduced thick cream)
50ml low fat milk
nutmeg to taste
1/2 tsp mustard
1 - boil the potatoes & steam cauliflower for about 5 minutes until tender.
2 - In a bowl, mix cream, milk, 80g of the cheese, nutmeg and mustard together.
3 - mix potatoes, cauliflower, onion and sauce and fill into ovenproof dish.
4 - sprinkle over the remaining cheese.
Bake at about 180C for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is browned as much as you prefer. This doesn't need to be baked for very long as you've par-boiled the vegetables already - about 190cal/portion. Less if you use low-fat cheese!0 -
This is what I make for breakfast a lot my own recipe.
Marla's scramble
1 t fresh garlic, few leaves fresh basil, some olive oil, small portion of organic sausage cook this then put in about 1/2 cup of any type of fresh salsa, when heated add a bunch of baby spinach leaves and cook till wilted, then add one egg and 1% milk already stirred and cook, then I sprinkle a few bits of fresh parmesan and a T of ginger sauce on top for extra flavor, heat a bit more and serve!
It comes out juicy but I hate dry food, I always add some type of sauce to everything!0 -
For the exercise I'm going to aim for 4 reps of 60 seconds per day.
I'm trying this tonight for dinner! Very excited as I LOVE cuban sandwiches.
Turkey Cuban Sandwich - from skinnytaste.com
1 6" slice French Bread (fat free)
3 oz left over turkey breast, heated
1 slice of ham
2 thin slices of Alpine Lace Swiss cheese
3 slices of pickles
mustard
Pam cooking spray
Slice the bread open. Spread mustard on both sides. Place cheese and pickles on the bread. Add turkey and top with ham. Close your sandwich, spray the sandwich press with buttered flavored Pam and press down until the cheese is melted and the crust is a little crispy. Cut the sandwich on the diagonal and enjoy!0 -
For the exercise I will try 4 reps of 30 seconds per day.
Aaaaaand.....
This is my favorite recipe of all time.
"Paleo" Banana Bread
Ingredients
3 eggs, separated (keep the yolks and whites separate!)
4 or 5 tbsp honey (up to you!)
4 tbsp olive oil
3 mashed bananas (3 small, or 2-3 big)
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups almond flour
1 cup pecans or walnuts (optional, and likely broken into smaller pieces if you use them)
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream the egg yolks and honey in a large bowl until light and fluffy. I use a hand-held mixer for this. It takes about five minutes.
3. Add the olive oil, vanilla, and mashed banana to the bowl, mixing well.
4. In a smaller separate bowl, mix the cinnamon, baking powder and almond flour and sift well. You don’t have to do this, honestly, before you add it to the big bowl, but an even distribution of the spices and powder never hurts.
5. Add that mixture of spices and powder to the bowl and stir well.
6. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. A hand mixer is champion at this. Stiff peaks are vital.
7. Fold the egg whites into the banana mixture to pull it away from the sides before gradually folding the rest of the egg whites into the mixture.
8. If you’re the nutty type, go ahead and add your cup of pecans or walnuts to the mixture and stir well.
9. Lightly butter 2 foil bread loaf pans and pour the banana mixture in.
10. Place in oven for 40-45 minutes, though I always end up keeping them in for the latter.
The tops of the loaves should be a nice toasty brown by the 45-minute mark. Stick them with a toothpick and make sure it comes out clean. If so, you’re golden — set the loaves out to cool and enjoy!
One thing to consider: the loaf will harden and become more bread-like overnight, so don’t be surprised if it comes out pretty soft in the end. Banana bread always tastes better the next day, and these loaves are definitely no exception.
Misc Tips
Let the three eggs sit out and come to room temperature before separating them. This’ll make the egg whites form stiff peaks much faster than if the eggs were well-chilled in the fridge.0 -
